I got my Magic Bullet pre-ordered online so I literally only stopped by for pickup. The venue was quite petite and you could enjoy the smoothies on the spot but with standing table. The smoothie was so thick and filling, and not overly icy making it so satisfying. Wish the matcha and almond butter to banana ratio could be increased a bit as the banana flavor was dominating, but overall it's still very good one! I really really really want to like them a lot. BUT, there are some non-negotiables: 1. wait time: unreasonable. There is absolutely no good explanation why a smoothie should take 20-30-40 min wait from the time of order. We were told 15 min, which turned into 40. There were 5 tickets/orders in front of ours. They should have waited time displayed in front of the store. 2. customer service: communication with customers is non existent. They do not have designated cashier and swap out between taking orders and making smoothies, sometimes without warning. Someone can stay in the line and be next to order when the cashier just walks away for unknown period of time. Just a basic "please wait, I'll be back" would make a difference. 3. price: average of $17-20 per smoothie. Price to wait to final product does not justify the price mark. 4. their description of what's sweet and what's earthy isn't accurate, you'll find out what you ordered once you get it. 5. it is not a place where you can sit and enjoy your smoothie. It's basically an order counter indoors with dusty counter shelves. Pros: 1. some smoothies are pretty tasty (Strawberry Fields) 2. the look of the smoothie is sort of unique with looking like an ice cream cone. It wasn't the line either, the staff had just forgotten to streamline the orders so there were more smoothies than people waiting yet no one was getting their drinks. After 40 minutes and no update, it'd be safe to assume I'm getting the best smoothie in Santa Monica. To my unsurprise 20 minutes later, it was the least impressive smoothie you can buy for an extravagant price. It was supposed to be a rich & thick chocolate smoothie with dates. Instead, the chunks of date in my chocolate smoothie were too big and at the bottom lay an entire date that wasn't blended. Not sure if it's on purpose but regardless, the flavor wasn't there. Really, all that wait for that? Awful. The other smoothie I ordered, matcha something, was too sweet. It had the right amount of honey but the banana used was over ripened so the taste was overwhelmed by that particularly sweet pungency. LA summer weather definitely calls for a smoothie place like this one. Everytime I have passed this small shop, line out the door and I can tell why. Staff was super friendly and helpful in assisting customers with suggestions. One thing to note was that I saw a handful of bee's in the small space which kind of made me really think to myself wow there must be really clean ingredients and fruits being used. My only complaint really was that even though the ordering process was very fast, the wait for two smoothies exceeded 15 minutes around noon on a weekday. I understand there was only two staff members but two drinks with added whey protein for $30 shouldn't have taken as long as it did. Unsure If it's worth the price. Parking was not the best and be mindful Santa Monica has parking police working 24/7. Saw a parking police roll around the block while I was waiting the whole 40 mins I was there! There's a small parking lot right next to the restaurant right down the driveway but only 2 spots!!! Definitely took longer than I thought. Small restaurant, a lot of people were waiting, felt a little squished. Only 3 workers and I can say about over 30 people came within the 40 mins I was there. So a lot of smoothies with only 3 people. I have a fear of bees, and they left the door open and honestly I saw 3 bees fly into the restaurant. Maybe it's normal with organic smoothies places and such, but still a little frightening to see those bees land on the mixers and tables they were using. The line looked pretty short but don't be fooled. It was still an hour and a half wait. An hour to order and another 30 minutes to get your smoothie after you order. We got the strawberry banana, tropical and green one. The tropical was definitely my favorite. But I feel like I could've made them at home. I should've known better than to come on MDW. We arrived at the store around 2:25 and saw the sign that says cut off for orders was 2:30. However, the line kept moving and it seemed like the cash register was taking orders still. Once we were in the front we noticed the line paused and the lady at the register hopped on the blenders and started making drinks. The girl upfront who was by the register looked confused and wanted to order. Nothing was communicated to the folks in line. And everyone assumed maybe the cashier jumped on the blenders to help with getting the smoothies out and then would take orders again. Then people in the back of the line started asking if they were still taking orders when the other guy on the blenders kicked everyone who was waiting in line out. Literally yelled at all of us to leave. I get wanting to close early on MDW or having a cut off but the person at the register should've just told the girl who was about to order the line is cut off. I was extremely disappointed with my experience. We waited nearly an hour for our smoothies, which is completely unacceptable, especially considering how expensive they are. When I finally got mine, it tasted almost entirely like almond butter, completely overpowering the other ingredients. I also have a food allergy, and instead of taking it seriously, the staff acted like my request was an inconvenience. Both were really good, but I'd especially recommend the Date Night Date if you want something that isn't overly sweet but still has that nice hint of sweetness without tasting like a green juice. For it being an early morning visit with fewer customers, the customer service could've been better. I went on a weekday during work/school hours and there was close to no one there. Absolutely zero line but there was a few people waiting before me for their drinks. I ordered one juice and a smoothie and waited over an hour. They move at the pace of snails and take extra long to make the juices which they do not warn you about. While they took forever to make the juice they never handed me my smoothie and let it melt. The top they overfill spilled all over me because my smoothie was completely melted. Overall do not recommend at all unless you want to waste $25 and nearly two hours of your time when there's no line. read more
