Let's start from the beginning; I called because I was going to be late and they were super understanding, then called again because my maps took me to the wrong location, and then was hitting every red light on the way to the right location...and they were thoughtful enough to call me to ensure I wasn't lost again. This was the best pedicure I've had in a LONNNGGG time. I wear boots for a living and feel brand new after a visit to Mai Fresh. They actually massage your feet, the water was actually warm, and my callused spots are actually soft. All employees were so nice and attentive, the music was loud enough you could hear it but quiet enough I could talk to a friend, and a beverage of choice was offered from water to Diet Coke to wine. Extremely overpriced for absolutely no reason. Went in for just a soak off and manicure with the simplest nail art ever and came out spending $100+ with tip because I'm not evil to not tip. The vibe was pretty decent too much mumbling and gossiping convo about clients nails as if I wasn't capable of understanding. Also I hate the open floor plan. Pedicure should have its own private area. I don't want to watch someone getting their nails done while I'm trying to relax during my pedicure. Absolutely horrible!!!! Went there for mani/ pedi. starting with the pedi, the old lady who did my feet did even properly clean or treat my feet (callus removal, cleaning, etc) polish on toes starting peeling not even a week later. Then, I asked for a specific style of dip powder and chrome and the old lady, I guess, didn't know how to do it and had me waiting for 40 mins until the owner was available. Got my nails done and the polish job was horrible (got a deep French style) and didnt file or shape properly. kept blaming my nail for being crooked when I have had my nails done for over 15 years and never had issues. The worse part is after ONE WEEK the powder already started lifting. I usually go somewhere else but that weekend it was an urgent situation and my nail place didn't have time until the following week so I decided to go here but NEVER AGAIN. waste of money and service was horrible. read more

I came for a mani/pedi while my car got worked on at Fitz. Kat was AMAZING! Everyone here was so kind but she is the only one I can speak for on the work. I got a gel manicure and a spa pedicure ($60 all together) it was by far the best deal I have found. I actually did not know how much it would be when I sat down. (One of those days where you honestly didn't are but of course your wallet did) It is a humble place which almost always means it's the best. If I could rate this salon a zero, I would. I had THE absolute worst experience here. My first time there too. I had a 10% off coupon, thought I'd check it out and made the appt. Weird vibes from the moment I walked in. The owner kept staring at me as I sat and waited for my service. I'm then told the lady that would be doing my pedi (for reference, she seemed to be Latin) was ready. She was pleasant enough at first and then she asked which pedi service I wanted. I said I'm not sure but I wan the one that has the callous service. She then shoved the pamphlet to me without even saying anything (I would think a *professional* would know which service offered what, but then again, maybe that's just my thinking). I read the pamphlet and no where does it say callous...the owner then proceeds to "show and read that section to me", like I'm an idiot. Again, nowhere does it say callous (the pamphlet was woefully lacking description of each level of pedi service). I then took a couple of pics of my feet during the service and the tech *ASSUMED* I was taking a pic of her w/o asking her...I told her I didn't...why the hell would I want her in my pic?!?. She clearly had even more of an attitude by then. Then at the end of the washing and callousing part service, I asked her if she was going to smooth out the side of my big toe too...she said, w/an attitude, "didn't you just see me scrub your feet?" I kept my cool and let her finish, all the while thinking this would be the first time I would not tip (and I'm generous w/my tips for good service b/c that is not easy work). Then the owner comes over and says to me, "you've been here before" and I said, "no I haven't." Then she said it again, as if I can't remember where I've been! WTAF?!? Was she that pressed over honoring the coupon and/or does she think all black people look alike?!? I was also wearing a mask!! Then I said, again, "no I haven't been here and with this type of customer service, I won't be back." That's when the nail tech got up and said I shouldn't have taken a pic of her. That's when I got irritated and told her again, I only took a pic of my own damn feet and not you!!! Then the owner showed me something from her phone to show how long the nail tech worked on my pedi...I assume as proof, for what I don't know or care. What the hell? First of all, why are you recording me getting a service in your salon and, secondly, the callous work is not the issue!!! The fact that the nail tech did not smooth out the big toe on the side is the issue!!! I decided my service was complete. I got up out of that chair, and told them both I'm done and just want to pay for my service and get the hell up out of there. I detailed this encounter not only for the review but to state that I will never visit a NON-black owned nail salon ever again. I felt attacked and profiled. That owner insisted I had been there before, and the only reason I can think of is she probably thought I was trying to get one over by using the 10% coupon. I don't know and I don't care. I am not pressed for money, lol! I will be very intentional w/seeking out black owned nail salons going forward. Unfortunately, I don't think there are any black owned nail salons in my area, but no biggie...I'll gladly patronize only a black owned nail salon during my travels around the DMV area. read more

At Mai's they did an amazing job and my gel nails and regular pedicure have managed to survive despite all of my lab work and gardening abuse. Disappointed. Only 3 days after getting them done... 2 nails gone. 1 fell as I was putting on my shoe, I did not even feel it come off & the other while I was asleep! Not only did they last less than a week.. the lady who did my nails cut about 3 of my fingers as she did them. I said "ouch" once & she apologized and took more caution towards the other nails. The end result wasn't bad. But I was not pleased & now I'm upset that 3 days with them on, I've already lost 2. I had an extremely unpleasant experience with a technician who was unprofessional, loud, and quite unfriendly. She actually told me not to ask for her again because I picked a sparkly polish color and she said those take too long. I ended up leaving before the pedicure because I was so uncomfortable from the technician's crass behavior! I got a pedicure and full set and both are perfect! The staff was SO friendly and even stayed after closing to finish up my service, and they didn't make me feel rushed at all. Do not waste your money and go to this salon. I was treated horribly by both the owner and technician that started doing my nails. Not only were my nails left lumpy, but I was yelled at by the technician when asked why my nails were lumpy. The manager then excused her technicians behavior and I left the salon with one side of my nails longer than the other. The customer service is horrible in this salon and they lack cleanliness. They also treat African American customers way different than they treat their white customers. If you're African American you're are automatically treated as if you have no money walking through the door. Whatever you do don't spend your money here....support businesses that provide equal treatment and provide customer service without bias!!! read more
