I've been getting my nails done by him for a while, and he has always gone above and beyond and exceeded my expectations. He's also easy to talk to and very funny. The manicure was barely passable - in fact, a little uneven on the edges - and she cut my nails before asking how short or long I wanted them. Pros: - The runner's pedicure was really thorough. It featured callus removal, warm towels, and a lengthy massage. However it was a $10 upgrade from the basic pedi. - The pedicure chairs are those amazing magic hands kind. I felt like I was getting a real back massage while sitting in it. - Wide selection of regular and gel polish. - Techs give neck and shoulder massages when you're waiting for your nails to dry. - Discount for paying in cash. Cons: - Sweet lawd, these people are pushy! They want to squeeze every last drop they can from you! It was $1 for a little blue tablet to "sanitize" the pedicure water. As I said above, I'd already chosen an upgraded pedi but that wasn't enough for the tech. She tried to sell me something called Nu-skin for another $10. - The tech literally asked me if I wanted my eyebrows waxed at least 10 times. She also tried to sell me a gel manicure several times. The last straw was when she told me my manicure would only last TWO days if I didn't get gel. I pointedly told her a good manicure should last 5-7 days. She shut up about the gel manicure after that. - Polish application was careless on a couple of finger and toenails. Not bad enough to be sloppy but maybe the tech could've focused on cleaning that up instead of selling me extras. - The foot massage hurt! They also do that closed fist pounding thing on your legs and feet in a manner that is painful and annoying instead of helpful. Initially, I was hovering between 2-3 stars but the constant upsell attempts really ground my gears. It's impossible to relax when you have to say no every five minutes. This is one of the best salons I've been to! They're always friendly and welcoming. I've gone to salons where everyone working there is speaking to one another in a different language and barely acknowledging me-that's NOT the case here. They are engaged with their customers the entire time. My friends and I went in an hour before closing and they let us get manicures and pedicures even though they were working past their closing time. My girl was extremely thorough and responsive throughout my mani and pedi and everything was done just the way I want it. These are my GIRLS!!!! My sis made a reservation for us...and they were ready for us at that exact time. They were inviting, courteous, professional, FUN, thorough, and didn't automatically try to up sell me to the most expensive treatments (which is why I chose those exact ones). The King Mani/pedi combo is PHENOMENAL!!!!!!!!!!!! And these ladies are NOT afraid of a hot towel or stone!!!! I was butter in their hands by the end, and more relaxed than I can recall being in a year. Best of all, Hannah - my technician - knew exactly what happened to my funky toe to make it the way it is. I have been coming here for 6 years (back when it was NY Nails II) and I have to say that I have tried a lot of salons in Frederick and I always come back here. The current owners have been there for almost 2 years, I think, and they are amazing! So accommodating! It's owned by a husband and wife who are also technicians. My personal favorites are Lynn and Bebe, but they are all amazing. I go there so often that they know me by name! Prices are as great as the service...I get a pedi about every 2 weeks, as its my guilty pleasure, and I pay about $40. Now I should point out that I don't get it done that often because it looks bad that quick...I just love being pampered (and with a side gig I have, I get about that much every 2 weeks). Bring a little cash because they don't take credit tips. If all you read is this last bit: GO. You won't be disappointed. If they nick you or hurt you by accident, they are so apologetic and stop the bleeding (though that has never actually happened to me, but it did happen to a friend). I am so very very disgusted and beyond consolable. Please don't go here. I know my eyebrow will grow back but my faith and trust is completely destroyed. I got a mani/pedi here in preparation for a wedding. I am not from the area and just went in blind with the bridal party who just picked the salon because of it's location and availability. I have to say the pedicure was not a pleasant experience. I agree with the other reviewers that there was a significant amount of pushiness and trying to upsell services. They would not take no for an answer. During the pedicure part I felt that there was a lot of unnecessary roughness. As the technician was trimming the cuticles and cleaning up around the nails I experienced quite a bit of pain, and then during the "massage" portion I felt that the pressure and method she used was way too hard. At first I thought I was being overly sensitive, but several other ladies in the bridal party had the same story when they finished. Some of us even had bruising the next day on our lower legs from the "massage", which included something akin to punching. The manicure was pretty standard, and turned out just fine. I was a little uncomfortable with the fact that the nail technician kept reading and responding to text messages on her cell phone in between fingers she was filing. It just seemed odd. The end results were fine of course, the nails are manicured and polished and looking reasonable, though I do have sore shins now. The overall experience, however, is not something I'd care to repeat and I would probably go elsewhere if I am ever back in Frederick. read more

I loved my pedicure. I'm not sure if mani/pedis are all expensive in Frederick but I'm used to spending $35 for a mani/pedi nad I only got a pedi for that amount. That was a little disappointing. Lynn was very friendly and talkative. The pedi was a great experience even though it was expensive. I also had to say no so many times because she was trying to upsell me the whole time. The reason it only got 3 stars was the state of the waxing area---OMG do not get waxed here. It is dirty and they use ONE stick for each person. So the same stick touches your skin and hten goes back into the pot--over and over. I was grossed out and declined service. I wish I had noticed how the pedi tools were treated in terms of cleanliness. To be honest it makes me wonder. I did love the pedi and I might be back but I also might still be on the lookout for "my" place. read more

She has changed the rules of her rewards/loyalty program more than once (both times I was just about ready to claim my free manicure) and will not allow anyone but her to stamp the cards. My friend Tammy recommended this shop. I was in a bind to get my nails done. I had them done with gellish just a week earlier at another place, and it was peeling after just 3 days. La Villa took me right away and suggested dippy nails for my thin nails. Dippy nails took a bit longer, but I was very happy with the care that was taken to do a professional job. I'm going into my 3rd week with my still beautiful nails. If it wasn't for the regrowth, I could go a few more weeks with gorgeous nails. Victor has always did a nice job on my nails. It's hard to find a good nail tech so I returned..victor has a "iffy"attitude. Some days he is ok.. other days he is agitated sarcastic and irritable. This is not good customer service and yesterday was the last straw. He did my nails and I decided that they were too thick. After a rush job and a bad attitude he told me to go somewhere else. What?! I'm a loyal tipping customer and I did not appreciate the tone or disrespect. Maybe if he learned good customer service he would be more busy. Amazing experience. Will definitely be coming back. The decor and atmosphere is very welcoming and you feel like you are part of their family. I paid $50 for a regular pedicure and gel manicure- came out perfect and very happy with the time spent. While my nails were under the lights I was given a 2-3 min back massage which was very unexpected but very relaxing. Everyone speaks to everyone and I strongly believe it is thanks to the staff who facilitate an open salon and conversation. Only negative is the parking, there is none. Changing my review to 1 star, I would do 0 starts if possible. I foolishly went back thinking my previous visit was just a fluke, since I had great experiences before. I was completely wrong. Not only did they keep trying to up sell things to me, even after saying NO, when they took my gel polish off my toenails, they refused to soak them/do the foil covering method, instead she used her cuticle cutters to TEAR the polish off my toenails, when I said something, she said no it was fine. They destroyed my toenails, because they ripped off the top layer off toenail with the gel!!! Now my toenails are breaking painfully and there is nothing I can do about it, my doctor saying that it just has to grow out from where they destroyed my nail from tearing it off. On top of that the lady cut 2 of my toes with the cuticle cutters, trying to make me put my feet back in the bath, I refused, then poured rubbing alcohol right on them, zero warning they were going to. They DON'T CLEAN their pedicure baths between clients!! I watched a lady get out of the pedi chair, they sprayed it with the water hose, NO cleaners, no bleach at all, then sat another lady in that chair & started right up the pedi tub of water & started doing hers. Absolutely disgusting! Don't waste your money or risk your nail health by going here! read more

Clean, reasonably priced, friendly service. I don't go anywhere else in Frederick for manicures and pedicures.

I have tried and tried to give this place a fair chance, at minimum more than ten visits. But after today I'm done. The Good: It is so close my house and their hours are great. I think the prices are pretty comparable to what else is in the area and the work is well done. I've never had an issue with that. The Bad: Today I was serviced by an apprentice. The only reason I figured this out is because the owner, Michelle, told me "she speaks little English" as soon as I hopped in the chair. I also later noticed her license hanging on the wall -- but it wasn't signed. The gal did a nice job but it raised two issues for me: (1) why am I paying top dollar to be someone's training hours? (FCC's cosmetology school charges lower rates!) and (2) she was slow as all heck -- we're talking 2 1/2 hours for a mani/pedi when certified staff were sitting around chatting. I personally have a bias against this as well. No music, no sound on the TV, me sitting there with my near-dead phone and everyone else chatting -- in their workplace for 2 1/2 hours... I just don't consider that professional behavior. I also feel that I am always pushed for an "upsell". I can't ever just get what I come in for unless I fight for it and argue that I really only want what I said initially. I also have some concerns about cleanliness. There are smears on the walls and stations, the floor is wearing thin and I watched my apprentice dump my mani-bowl with water & marbles back into the master bowl with no rinse, sterilization or anything. And I know it was just full of water because I checked it out later when I was scrubbing my hands. I also watched another tech go in the bathroom for quite some time (I don't want to know) but when she came out, she didn't wash her hands, just rinsed them with water for a few seconds. Gross. The Ugly: Today, the owner, Michelle, was trying the old "upsell" again and I asked her how much the two services would cost and she quoted me $80. Later, when I was done drying my nails and walking up to the front, she reminded me "$85. I reminded her she had told me $80. She did correct herself. I started counting out the cash and when I got to the amount that the salon was due ($80) she grabbed it off the counter and then told me to tip the apprentice. The gal was nowhere to be seen, but somewhere in the back. Michelle told me she would give it to her, make sure that she gets it. I felt really funny about that, but I started counting out that girl's money and I realized I was $5 short. I had *just* been to the bank and knew I had exactly 3 $20s, 2 $10s and 4 $5s because that's what the teller handed me and I checked it. I also had $6 leftover from change from the week. So, I pay Michelle ($80) and I pay the apprentice ($20 - she worked hard and did deserve it) and there is only $1 left in my wallet??? Where the heck is the other $5? I asked Michelle to recount the money in her hand and she says "I did". I asked her to do it again and she says again "I did". You can only stand there with your empty wallet zipper open for so long asking to recount the money yourself before you just shrug your shoulders and leave. Well, there is only one place that that $5 could be. If it was really worth it to you to be dishonest for $5, best of luck because it cost you a loyal customer and if anyone reads this I hope I spare you the headache! P.S. You can pay for services with your credit card but all tips must be paid in cash -- this was not told to me up front and I was short on cash and got the pleasure of using their in-house ATM *with a service fee* one day -- Surprise! read more

The new owner makes me feel like I'm such an inconvenience when I ask her to do my nails a certain way and I feel like the listed prices aren't what I've been paying recently. I've been coming here since 2007 when I moved into the area and I think it's time for me to move on. Never, ever would I come back here. My first and last time here. I went in for a pedicure and my feet came out looking 10x worse then when I initially went in. My toes were cut and shaped not to what I had asked for, the paint job was sloppy. While the polish was drying one of the workers decided to give me a "massage" that 1) made me feel uncomfortable and 2) made me feel as if he was trying to give me services for a better tip. I've been getting manicures regularly (east coast, west coast and in between....) for the last decade and this was quite possibly the most offensive manicure I've ever gotten. We called ahead to see if a friend and I could get walk-in appointments a few Saturdays ago, and they were quick to get us in, which was awesome. And that's where the awesomeness ends. We were rushed as we picked our nail colors (at one point, one of the techs picked a color and said "this one will be good for you, let's go" and we had to INSIST on wanting to choose our own colors, not have her choose them). As we were having our nails done, I was told I also needed my eyebrows done (NOT asked if I wanted them done). They didn't do anything with my cuticles, barely filed, forgot the top coat on my friends manicure, and cut the distal nail fold (painful! AND it looks bad!).... I mean, I know we got the basic manicure, but you shouldn't be in and out in 10 minutes. There wasn't even a line of waiting clients. My friend and I (we were trying to catch up over the manicure) were separated for no apparent reason - there was plenty of open stations. And they actually told my friend "Don't cry because we separated you. The woman who I believe to be the owner then rushed us out before our nails were dry so they, of course, smudged while I was still in the store. The nail tech even told her that my nails weren't dry and she insisted I was done and told to "go over there"...once I got to checkout she tried to go through my wallet (didn't ask) and I had to ask her to please stop. I suppose a nice gesture, but if my nails were as dry as she suggested, pulling out a card wouldn't have been an issue. Wouldn't recommend. Wouldn't go back. read more

I had a very bad experience here yesterday. First the lady who waxed my eyebrows didn't do a very good job leaving the wax on the side of my eye brows which caused me to have a reaction. Secondly I didn't intend on getting a manicure but after they pressured me and my friend into it we did. The lady barley painted my nail, smugged them and left streaks....I think my 10 year old sister could've did better...I asked her to please fix it since, she simply removed the two "bad fingers" and just repainted....I used to love this place but after yesterday I don't think I'll be going back. read more

I went here for a fill on my acrylic nails last week. The work done on my nails wasn't even worth five dollars. My tips were uneven, filed to thin to cover my natural nail, the design honestly looked like a two-year-old took a magic marker to my nails, and the woman doing my nails made three of my cuticles bleed from rubbing them with the block filer even after I told her to stop because it hurt so bad. I will never go back here or recommend this place to anyone for fake nails or nail design. I ended up going to Nail Time to have my nails fixed because they were such bad quality from La Villa. I gave this salon two chances -- I chose it due to recommendations from friends, and proximity to my home. The first time, I simply got a pedicure. I had to go back five days later, as it already started to chip. They were very nice and touched it up at no cost, but it still only lasted another week before chipping again. The second time I went only for a pedicure, but they were not busy, and talked me into a $50 gel manicure. I loved it at first, but then it began peeling off within five days. FIVE DAYS! Also, the pedicure was painful, and begain chipping in two weeks. Usually my pedicures last three weeks or more. The most annoying part of all was the constant upselling -- sorry, but I like my eyebrows and do not want them done! No, I will never come back. $50 for a manicure that barely lasts five days?
