One of the decent Dim sum in the area without driving out to Baltimore. Best time to head out there by 11am before the crowds hits specially on the weekends. But we got there on a weekday and the lunch rush didn't hit until little after 12pm. When we got there little after 11am on a weekday and there was an older gentleman just toss the menu at us and when I asked him for tea and ice water plus hot sauce as well. HE just walked away like he didn't even want to be there. When we check for the wrong item we apologize but still kept the dish and wanted to order more. But he was being rude the whole time. Until we ended up asking another waiter to serve us instead of him. - Chicken feet - Bean Curd wrapped with pork - Steam Spare ribs - Chives & shrimp dumplings - Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce - Roasted pork cheung fun - Pineapple bun filled with custard - Deep Fried shrimp balls - Stuffed eggplants
Honestly I think we came on the wrong day. Would recommend coming on the weekend when they have cart service. Coming on a weekday, the food didn't taste fresh -- seems like reheated stuff from cart service the previous day. The best items were the Har Gau and Cheung Fun. The empress chicken was very dry and would not get the again
It's my 2nd time eating at Mai Dragon but this time it is for a repast. They accommodated & seated our big group very quickly with plenty of elbow room - total of 6 tables. Water, sodas and hot tea were served immediately. Then the yummy food started coming out. And they were all tasty. A total of 7 dishes: beef chow fun, bbq pork, walnut shrimp, crispy pork, couple of vegetarian dishes, and steamed chicken. Our dessert was some orange slices. So much food, so full and so much leftover. Check them out if you are near Ft. Meade area.
Came here for the first time with a group of friends for dim sum on a Saturday afternoon. We ordered numerous items: steamed bak choy, fried chow fun (wide rice noodles), BBQ pork buns, sui mai, steam shrimp dumplings, steamed tofu wrappers, daikon radish cake (which is savory), steamed rice wrapped in bamboo leaves, egg custard tarts, black sesame buns, and pineapple buns. Total came to approximately $117 (not including tip). What's hot - Quality. Pretty delicious! All the dishes we ordered were yummy and well-flavored. My friends particularly liked the daikon radish cake, which was savory, tender and not too salty; the rice wrapped in bamboo leaves, which was soft and well-seasoned from all the mix-ins; the black sesame buns, which were filled with a sweet black sesame paste, and; the pineapple buns, which they all said was their favorite, because it was sweet, but not too sweet, and had a nice crunchy top. It's not easy to find a good dim sum restaurant that makes quality food, but this one seems to have it. - Layout. Pretty decent. Their tables don't appear to fit more than 6-8 people, though. So be mindful and prepared depending on how large your group is. - Service. All their staff appear to be immigrants and native Chinese speakers. I bring that up to emphasize that their staff know good food. Their dim sum is also rolled around on carts, rather than ordered off menus, which is how dim sum is usually ordered and served. I like that they keep to the traditional way of serving. They're pretty mindful of when to interrupt you while you're eating with your group. For example, their staff walked by our table with the carts of dishes, but didn't always interrupt us to ask what we wanted, which was nice. Also, as I'm the only one of my group who speaks Chinese, so their staff eventually ended up coming to me with the food so I could decide what to order off their carts. Lastly, I walked out without my takeout boxes. While I stayed outside with my group of friends talking, one of their staff walked outside and gave me my bag of leftovers. Very much appreciated! - Price. Very good value for money. It came out to approximately $25 per person. Given the amount of food we ordered and the quality, it was a pretty good trade off. - Location. Easy to find in a plaza and there's a decent size parking lot. It's also close to other businesses, such as Rita's Italian Ice. What's not - Variety. To be fair, I'm pretty certain I didn't see all the dishes that came around. I did see a fair amount, which are all dim sum dishes I'm familiar with, including tripe, chicken feet, several other sweet buns, etc.... However, they do not appear to have many veggie dishes, such as snow peas, steamed eggplant, etc.. but as I said, there may be other dishes I didn't see. Final answer Worth returning for dim sum.
Delicious and authentic dim sum. There is a ton of variety of dumplings, bao, and vegetables. The place is always packed on weekends when I have gone but the staff is busy but attentive. They come around with carts of dishes for you to choose from to add to your feast. The tables have a large lazy Susan which is fun to spin. It's great to walk through the restaurant with Chinese decor and see so many families, couples, and coworkers dining together.
I was quite disappointed by the quality of the food this time around. I've eaten here for dim sum several times and haven't had any issues. This review is for take out on a Monday evening. Ham sui gok - overall taste is good, but very little filling Lo mai gai - this was one of the better tasting items of the order Bbq roast pork - it was off putting to find a lot of liquid in the container. My guess is that this was frozen and re-steamed. This was disappointing since you can buy the marinade and that would have been more flavorful. Crispy roast pork - this tasted reheated/refried. Kingdom Pork chops - one of the top items of the order. No complaints. Black bean class - no complaints. Pickled cabbage and beef - good but not the best I've had.
One of the places I miss the most since relocating to West Coast is eating dim sum at Mai Dragon. So many of the important milestones, Sunday lunch with my mom, and celebration meals were enjoyed here. Every plates are prepared with care and just right. The service is prompt and attentive. I've never had anything that tasted overcooked or tepid. I didn't know that was a thing until I had some lousy dim sum experience recently. Mai Dragon is precisely the reason why I have been so spoiled for years. If and when I am back in the area, I know for certain to at least come by twice!
Such a great place for dinner! I came here and was happy to see so much variety in the menu. The Dim Sum options we tried were all delicious, especially the Yolk buns. Wow so good. All of our meals here great, we tried Kung Pan Chicken, Duck noodle soup and Moo Shy Chicken. The sizes were huge and we had so many leftovers. The service was great and fast. It is a secret gem.
Extremely disappointed with my delivery order. First there was no communication re: whether or not the order had been received and was being prepared after ordering through the Yelp platform. When I received it, I was saddened by the quality of the food. Never have I ever been served Kung Pao chicken with no vegetables. It is only chicken and peanuts. There are no vegetables in the fried rice either. This was a go to spot for me when worked in the area near the restaurant a few years ago, but it has severely declined in service and food quality. I will not be ordering from here again.
When am I in the mood for dim sum? Always! Every day of the week! And that is just one reason why I love Mai Dragon: they're open for dim sum not just on the weekends but during the week! And the food. Ohhh the food I love that I can get solid dim sum in sleepy, suburban MD. From steamed bao and dumplings, to baked/fried goodies, to veggies and noodles, I cannot get enough Mai Dragon. I love that I can get any taste satisfied: savory, sweet, saucy or plain, crispy or soft... The Hong Kong-style with the carts is so fun and I never leave hungry or j satisfied. There's a good reason why this place is always packed. (Pro tip: go early!) Incase it's not clear, I love this place!

My family and I come here a lot because it's close by for a good authentic dim sum or Chinese meal. It's probably one of the better places around for dim sum, and service is fast. My dad would say it's decent, but we always come back, so it means something. I really like it anyways for good authentic homey food. read more
A Cantonese-themed Chinese restaurant located at the roadside shopping districts in Hanover MD. Decoration and vibe are casual Cantonese restaurants. Obviously very popular among local residents (both Asian and otherwise), the place opens door at 11am daily and by around 11:10am the main dining hall is already filled, and by around 11:30am lines will form. So be sure to come in early. We were led to a side dining room next to the main dining hall with half a dozen tables. The room is small, so noise and relatively crowded seating could be expected. But the service was quite good. One male waiter kept coming in and out, speaking fluent English and Mandarin Chinese, asking for service needs and food orders, and delivering dishes in prompt manner. Waitresses operating dim sum carts were also very friendly and could sell their dishes in both English and Mandarin Chinese. Also, I have to mention that this place has one of the cleanest restrooms ever seen in any Chinese restaurants. Items I liked----- Shiu Mai (烧卖): my favorite item, one of the best Shiu mai dishes ever tasted in the D-M-V area. Extremely generous portion of shrimps, minced pork, and diced mushrooms wrapped in thin egg flour skins, very little taste of starch/flour typically used to cut corners in the stuffing. Seasoning was nice, not too overwhelming but kept the savory taste of the shrimps. Beef tripe and daikon/turnip stew (牛杂): generous portions of tripe slices and daikon chunks in Cantonese style stew broth. Tripe slices were braised long enough to be tender, and daikon chunks soaked all the aromatic spices from the stew broth. Might want to add a bit more star anise to the stew broth to add richer flavor, but it is a nice dish as it stands. Pineapple bun (菠萝包): ordered and serves steam hot. To be honest the top crispy "pineapple" puff pastry is a bit disappointing, as it does not carry the authentic colorization of golden yellow and red mixed, and tasted a bit bland (not sweet enough). But the bun was nicely made, and the sweet yellow yolk stuffing tasted rich, literally melting in the mouth. Ha Gao (shrimp dumplings 虾饺): pastry is a bit too thick, but again generous stuffings of shrimps just like the Shiu Mai. Toufu Brains (豆腐脑/豆花): served Cantonese style with sweet ginger syrup, had the standard light fluffy taste. Pork spare ribs (排骨), chicken feet (凤爪), blanched beef offal (牛百叶), egg tarts (蛋挞): all tasted standard. Items that need some improvement------ Sweet sesame balls (芝麻球/煎堆): flour skin is way too thick, and having chewed through it there was too little sweet paste stuffing inside. Congee with preserved eggs and minced pork (皮蛋瘦肉粥): seemed not cooked enough, way too thick. Daikon/turnip rice cake (萝卜糕): too much starch/flour in stuffing. Overall: some items need to be better, but service was great, most other items were nice, and prices were reasonable. Could be a strong contender for best dim sum places in the Baltimore City and County area. read more
This was my first DimSum place on the East Coast... and I'm still looking for a good spot. At least the servers spoke Chinese and had food in pinyin, but only the bbq pork buns and Chinese broccoli tasted right. The radish cakes were a bit tasteless and breaded on the outside. The chang-fen items weren't quite... understandable. The fried noodles was ok especially with the leek, and the buns were very bready and solid. So, the ambience feels more right but there are more Asians there! That's a good sign! read more

This is absolutely THE BEST Dim Sum place in the area. IF you know what to order you'll have the best experience here. We ordered a few of our "must haves" and we were beyond stuffed afterwards. The food here is just so fresh and full of flavors. Atmosphere is hectic at times...depending on when you get there but the service is fast. If you haven't experienced this place, my suggestion is to study their menu ahead of time and be prepared to order by item number (if you're order Dim Sum.) But trust me, whatever you order you will not be disappointed! read more
Not really impressed. Had a cafeteria feel and the floors were really slippery. Everything just seemed cheap except for when the bill came. They were out of about 5 items on the dim sum menu. I was shocked when the bill came. Almost $200 and we ordered maybe 5 different plates of dim sum, a bowl of pho and 3 entrees. Everyone got waters. I was also surprised that they charged for the hot tea, all the other places I've been to offer it for free. They also took it upon themselves to write in the tip amount. read more
I would give this place 3.5 star. I came during the holiday weekend with my family for dim sum. The restaurant has almost a cafeteria feel to it. It was packed when we got there at 11:20 or so. Usually a good sign or maybe there isn't much options in the area? I am not sure if they had any sort of system of taking names but it was a chaotic mess. We finally got seated around 11:45 am and the dim sum carts came around. We got a bunch of the usual items dumplings and fried items. Everything was okay, nothing really stuck out as amazing. We were surprised how the baked buns were sold out but noon, so did not have a chance to try that. Other items that were disappointing like the baby clams were really fishy and the spareribs was not fully cooked. I wanted to order beef chow foon but the noodles needs not delivered yet. The service is okay, but not the friendliest. It was busy so that could be the reason as well. Overall, I am undecided on this place. I do not think my dim sum craving has been satisfied. But I wonder during a less busy weekend would my experience be different. read more

Incredibly rude and impatient server. We were novice dimsum customers who were excited to try this restaurant. We ordered two items and weren't impressed. The two items came out at room temperature/warm not hot and fresh in our opinion. We reviewed the menu to see if we would order off the regular menu but decided against it after the server was being impatient. The restaurant was fairly empty and we weren't there long but the server started snatching things off the table causing dripping off the snatched plates to go all over and on my personal items, placing the check with attitude and no longer spoke to us once we decided not to order anything more and wanted to pay our check. This was unnecessary and unacceptable. read more

This was our first visit to Mai Dragon for carryout dinner on Saturday, 5/1/21. It took 30 minutes to wait, but we ventured to Food Lion and Dollar Tree a few doors down. We ordered Sesame Chicken, Beef Chow Foon, and Crispy Eggplant. The entrees were reasonably priced between $11 to $13 and large. They were lightly seasoned, not too salty or too spicy. The only setback was the eggplant, which was not crispy. The chef mixed in some sweet sauce so it was mushy by the time we got home so we will remember next time to request the sauce on the side. Dim sum is available every day until 4 pm. We will be back next week to try them for Mother's Day. read more

Hands down, the best Chinese restaurant closest to Columbia. Over the summer, my husband and I came here for lunch for the first time. Initially we had planned to go to Pho One O, but they were closed and I had been wanting to try this restaurant after reading good reviews. I'm a bit confused if patrons could order dim sum at Mai Dragon pre-covid. I should have asked while I was there. I assume they closed Mai Dim Sum and are serving the food at Mai Dragon. I wrote a separate review for my dim sum order on the Mai Dim Sum page. The staff are following social distancing guidelines very well. When we went over the summer, they took our temperature before seating us. My body temperature was slightly above average so they had me wait for it to lower before I was permitted in. The tables were 6 feet apart and all the staff were wearing masks. They also have labeled sanitary and unsanitary bowls used for carryout order pens to sign receipts. I am thoroughly impressed as I haven't seen any restaurants go the extra mile to make patrons feel this safe. I ordered dim sum and he ordered off the regular menu. That day my husband ordered fried spring rolls and lo mein. We were shocked at how large the lunch portions were. He couldn't finish it so took it home. I took a bite of his spring roll and thought it was just average. Service was super fast, but we also arrived when the restaurant first opened for the day. Fast forward to September 24. I called in to place a carryout order. I had a hankering for the Crispy Pork, but they said it's only available on the weekend. Say it isn't so! This foodie was devastated and heartbroken as I had my heart set on it. I decided to be somewhat healthy and ordered the Triple Delight which had beef, chicken, shrimp and mixed veggies. The flavor was delish and I liked the beef more so than the chicken and shrimp as it was very tender. I also ordered the Young Chow Fried Rice. I liked the pork as it was sweet. The shrimp was a bland and a few pieces were slightly overcooked. The rice was cooked perfectly. I would prefer it to be moist than fried too long and dry. I was amazed once again at the portion size. I made three whole meals out of my two entrees and the side of white rice. The first day for dinner I had the fried rice and Triple Delight. The next day, I had the leftover Triple Delight with the white rice for lunch. Then for dinner the second day, I had only the fried rice which was still a significant amount. I found my new favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. I guess it's a good thing it's 20 minutes away from me because I'd be coming here more often. Given how much I like it and the large portion size, my waistline would probably increase after the first month of dining here frequently. read more

I've eaten there twice, once for dim sum and once for sushi. Dim Sum I might try again, sushi is a hard skip. Took some friends for dim sum But was decently disappointed because there just seemed to be so much breaded versus more of the dumplings which I'm used to it however I spent a good time in South East Asia so I might have just been spoiled with more authentic less Americanized choices. Over all for the price next periods I would say it is worth a visit to try out their dim sum we were served pretty quickly and the food though it wasn't particularly highly flavorful or memorable it wasn't a negative experience. Also we brought our daughter held they were pretty chill about it despite her being the only toddler. Sometimes people are not super receptive to having a child especially at dim sum. Onto the sushi. So we ordered delivery for on base through the website. It arrived in about an hour with a no contact drop off. We got everything we ordered correctly. Unfortunately that's where the positivity ends. The portions for the fish given are so incredibly small and the equality over all did not seem to it all be worth the $75 we paid. I'm usually pretty loyal to sushi Q but didn't want to drive far and wanted to try a new place. The roles were small as well and generally the 2nd we looked at it we knew we weren't going to enjoy it anywhere close to what we are used to. read more
Authentic Chinese food here, but you need to ask for the Chinese language menu! This secret menu contains more noodle combinations and seafood options. The servers were friendly and gave me plum sauce upon request. Roast duck on rice tasted delicious. The beef chow fun with Chinese broccoli had fresh, thick beef but lacked a bit on the seasoning. I found my new go to real Chinese restaurant until I find some place better. read more

I always have a good experience at Mai Dim Sum. The service is fast and the food is always fresh. I would definitely recommend going early for dim sum to get there as soon as they open. It fills up really quickly and they might run out of popular items. The baked bbq pork buns, spare ribs and sui mei are my favorite. read more

The service is fast. The ambience is typical Chinese restaurant but super clean. The food is at the center: absolutely delicious. Roasted eggplant was sweet, yet retaining its consistency and texture. The roasted pork had a perfect skin crispness. And the general dim sun is just fabulous read more

Went on a Tuesday. Apparently, they let everyone off this day and they were very understaffed. One of the old men taking our ordered ripped our order out of my friends hand and the other guy kept coming to our table about 4 times to see what we ordered and never brought out our food. I think they were bringing food to the wrong tables to be honest because at one point one of the workers yelled out the servers name and pointed at a table. We were there about an hour and we missed like 3 of our orders. We got the last 2 because we talked to the receptionist and couldn't wait any longer for the last one so we decided to pay and take our leave. The real stars of the show is the receptionist guy (Benjamin) and the nice old lady! read more

We decided to take my sister out for dinner and when we arrived we had the whole place to ourselves. Needless to say, service was great and all of our food was hot and delicious. We tried the chow fun and the sliced pork, all perfect. We have tried Dim Sum here before, but this is the first time for the full menu. We recommend this restaurant, you'll enjoy the food!! read more

This was the place to go to for Asian closest to ft Meade. The food was always so so but it's conveniently close. A friend of mine said the dim sum was spot on Hong Kong style authentic. I have to take their word because it's not to my taste. They've changed their relationship to the military folks. Not sure what happened but no more military discounts. Weird. read more
We have been here multiple times for their dim sum on the weekends and a couple times for their regular menu items on the weekdays. Like everyone else says, the wait staff isn't very friendly or helpful but they have amazing dim sum and Chinese food. I do wish they worked on customer service a little bit because they can be quite rude and on busy days they definitely pick groups of 4 over 2 people (we waited over 30 mins but the group of 4 just entered the restaurant and were immediately seated so that's very frustrating). Food wise, I cannot recommend this place enough. We even tried the chicken feet and we actually enjoyed it! All their dim sum is delicious and all worth trying once. This is what we ordered: Noodles with roasted duck- good but lacked some flavor) Beef chow fun- delicious Black peppered short ribs that came with a bowl of rice- highly recommend Shrimp and egg over rice- highly recommend, added some chili oil for more flavor and some heat read more

Not a bad spot for Chinese food, but not anything fantastic. The portions were big for lunch, and the flavors were good, but the quality of the chicken was not great. I wouldn't skip it if my coworkers wanted to visit again, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit on my own. read more

We came here strictly based off the photos in the reviews and the fact we were craving Chinese food. This is located in a shopping center off Annapolis Road with a ton of parking. We walked in and were immediately greeted and seated. Right when we sat down there was a cart of food. Apparently, it was Dim Sum a la cart style which I'm not a huge fan up but we stayed to not be rude. I don't care much for Dim Sum because it's limited to food that I don't always favor. We rolled with the punches and thought sure why not. As I suspected the options weren't any of my favorites and it wasn't as fresh as I hoped. It took awhile to get drinks (water) but our main waiter was very polite. Actually, all the servers bringing the carts around were nice. The reason I give it three stars is because: (1) Cold to lukewarm food (2) Limited options on the carts (3) Slowness of getting drinks Other than that the service was good and the price was reasonable. I wouldn't knock anyone from trying or coming back. It's simply just not for me. read more

***BEWARE OF NON DISCLOSED FEES*** Mai Dragon seems to have been hit hard by the pandemic. In the years before the Pandemic they were consistently good. During the pandemic, the food quality went from good to mediocre. Items would be missing from orders for delivery and the quantity and quality became very hit and miss. The wife and I decided to try them for dine in to give them a final opportunity to prove themselves to us. The food quality was decent but I saw some things of concern like a guy playing with his phone and then immediately culling fresh produce. Hopefully he didn't use his phone in the bathroom. This put a damper on dinner but glad we didn't have any of the pea pods he was sorting through. The night ended with being charged an non advertised credit card fee. I paid it but I won't be back. If you want authentic Chinese or dim sum, I would recommend Asian Court in Ellicott City. Honestly worth the drive. read more
