I'm here for the weekend and we decided on Thai! The food was so delicious - they had some nice decor to set the ambiance in preparation for Halloween. The food came our quick and waiters were very attentive - I recommend stopping by if you are ever in the area

Mahaniyom is a wonderful and welcomed addition to the growing Thai stronghold in Boston. Unique Thai-style tapas and small entrees that are perfect for sharing. My family and I walked in aroud 5:15 on a Sunday night and walked in for dinner service at the bar. Although we didn't get drinks, we did feast on several items. Pomelo salad was light and unique for Boston Thai food, the crab fried rice was filled with plump and fresh crab meat, the beef panang had a deep flavor with tender meat, and the crab curry was so fun to dip the rice noodles into. For 3 people, these dishes were considered 3 "big" tapas and 1 "small" tapa and were enough to fill us up. Although I did have my eye on the branzino for the longest time...which I will come back for Would love to try their sister restaurant, Merai, which is just next door and currently hosts one of my favorite Boston-based pop-ups, Newbery Street which does Thai-style coffee/matcha and salt bread.

Cozy neighborhood Thai restaurant. Vast menu with thoughtful cocktail menu. The vibe was cozy with nostalgic 2000s rock-pop playing in the background. Highlight was the Salted and Peppered Pork Cheek with sticky rice. Service was attentive. Overall everything was very good, but nothing absolutely blew me away.

Loved this Thai tapas restaurant!! It received a Michelin Bib Gourmand award four months ago so it can be hard to secure a reservation, but if you go early you can sit at the bar or by the entrance. The place was charming, buzzing (but not loud), and had great atmosphere. Service was fast and the waitstaff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We started with the Yum Som O (Pomelo) seasonal salad and were blown away by the flavors. The ship was delicious and cooked to perfection. A fabulous dish!! Next, we had the Larb Ped with minced duck meat. It was flavorful, but not as mind blowing as the salad. Last, we had the Pad Paa a spicy vegetable curry that was a unique blend of flavors. The drinks menu includes cocktails and a curated menu of wine and beer options. Street parking can be difficult to find, so allow extra time if you have a reservation. This restaurant is a true local gem

TAKEOUT review * My daughter's friend recommended this place. Easy to order online. Keep in mind they are tapas so the quantity is smaller than an entree. There were 6 of us and we ordered 6 things, and fortunately we weren't ravenously hungry because otherwise we might've needed at least 3 more. We ordered mushroom salad, pad paa (a scrumptious concoction of veggies in sauce that comes with jasmine rice), crab fried rice, roasted brussel sprouts, grilled pork cheek, chicken ka praw. The order was ready for pickup within 30 minutes (which is what it predicted online). The food was freshly made, hot, ready to go at 8 p.m. and the staff were friendly and helpful. It looked like the customers there were having a fun time. We all really enjoyed every bite, particularly the pad paa with jasmine rice. It ended up being enough food for us as well.

Good food and drinks but vibes were more bar like than restaurant. Drinks are tasty and had some interesting combinations. We snagged a reservation but the only one available was for 10pm. Not sure if the music is turned up all night but at 10pm it was hard to hear each other talk. I think my favorite was the pad Thai and curry with the chicken skin being a close second. Portions range from a light tapa to a full portion. We definitely were hungry and ordered too much for two but we happily took home leftovers. Some things were slightly saltier than what I would've liked but it goes well with rice in those cases.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon and was able to get a seat at the bar immediately. It was busy but you probably could have gotten a table if you waited for a short bit. Still, the bar had free seats so no problem with lunch seating for us! We ordered the salt and pepper pork cheek, crispy chicken skin, and massaman curry and everything was great! Salt and pepper pork cheek ($17) - with some spicy peppers and cilantro, this pork was wonderfully crispy and had a good balance of meat and fat. Although some pieces were a little dry from being fried, it was overall a good dish. The size was a bit small though for the price. Beef Massaman ($15) - LOVE this curry and love that it comes with roti too. The coconut cream was nice and sweet while it still had some spice. The beef was tender and fall apart, and the crispy shallots on top added some nice texture. The roti was crispy and had a nice chew - I wish there was a little more roti but overall a great dish. Crispy Chicken Skin ($9) - this came with a sweet chili sauce for dipping and was really crispy! I don't think the actual chicken skin was seasoned though so it was a bit bland without the sauce. Still, it hit the spot for something crunchy and fried. We also had a $3 sticky rice which was good and a nice addition to the pork and beef dishes. Overall, the dishes were great! There were a few things for each dish that I'd change and the prices were a bit steep given the size of each dish, but it was a solid meal! I'd love to come back and try the pork belly dish or the oysters some day!

BBQ & Crispy Pork on Rice

This is more of an upscale Thai place with amazing dishes. I've tried their pad thai, crab fried rice, pork cheeks, Brussels sprouts, bbq pork and they were all very delicious. The crab fried rice being the highlight and my least favorite was the bbq pork over rice as it was too sweet for my taste. Dim lighting inside with tables very close to another so felt like there isn't much privacy from the next table but overall a cute, vibey place. It is also on the pricier side but expected.

Kang Pu (Crab Curry)
Jenny Z.

I did not reserve a table, but called ahead to see if there would be a wait. When we got there, they said a table would be 20 min wait or if we sit on the ledge by the window, we can get seated immediately. It was just me and my fiancé so we sat by the window. We ordered 3 dishes. The larb ped, pad paa, kang puu. The larb ped was minced duck. I thought it tasted really flavorful. Pad paa was a jungle curry paste with a lot of different vegetables. The Thai eggplant tasted so good in the sauce! We also had Kang Puu which was a crab curry. This was my favorite dish. We had rice noodles on the side and they were perfect in the curry, grabbing onto all of the soupy flavor!

It was fairly difficult to get a good reservation here, so the experience was a bit disappointing. I felt the curries tasted on par with other Thai spots in the area, and the drinks sounded better on paper than they really were. The restaurant is small, dimly lit, intimate, and the service was good. The pomelo salad was my favorite, so fresh and balanced and the shrimp inside were cooked perfectly. The roti that came with the beef massaman also stood out to me! Not sure if those are enough to get me to go back, but would recommend those two.

Pomelo salad
Thao L.

My favorite was the pomelo salad, I recommend getting it as an appetizer. The curries were not that good to be honest. I thought they were very sweet with a strong coconut milk base, which I personally don't like but if you do, get the crab curry. The fried chicken skin was unimpressive. I thought it'd be like the Jollibee fried chicken skin (iykyk) but it was unseasoned and unbattered deep fried chicken skin with sweet chili sauce. For the struggle of booking a reservation, I think the dishes weren't as good as I thought they'd be.

Khao tang na tung

Came here yesterday with 3 others for a 7:30pm reservation that I booked a month in advance. Otherwise, you're looking at a 4pm or 10pm reservation. Found street parking easily on surrounding streets. The restaurant is small, with low tables, high tables, and bar seating. The other reviewers are accurate in saying that the table next to you is only a few inches away. For 4 of us, we ordered 2 Thai iced teas, khao tang na tung (rice crackers), jor puu, kai tod had yai (fried chicken), beef massaman, classic pad thai, and crab fried rice. I was not a huge fan of the rice crackers as they tasted a bit bland. Standouts were the crab fried rice and the beef massaman. Jor puu was good, the fried chicken was good, although it seemed less fried and more grilled. Pad thai was average to me as were the Thai iced teas. Overall, was a good meal and we left satisfied and full. But I don't think it was exceptional enough to warrant a month-long waitlist for a normal dinner time, although I'm sure much of this is due to making Bib Gourmand recently. Glad I got to try it once but there are other Thai places I'd be more willing to go back to.

High top or standard seating? (Which is better?) ...and why would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Standard

If I arrive early for my reservation, is there space to get pre-dinner drinks???? Lots of folks mention the space is small. Should I plan to go nearby or arrive closer to my ressie time?

Are there gluten free (not celiac) options?

What is their opening hour?

They do both reservations and walk-ins but it's safer to make a reservation ahead if you can. It's pretty easy to make one as well; we only booked a day ahead for a Friday night. Amazing first impressions as well. They make a tiny space work perfectly; I did not feel claustrophobic at all even with full house. They have really cute decors and the space is decorated well. They have their seasonal cocktails that you can choose your choice of liquor for and martinis (both vodka and gin). They brew their espresso fresh as well so the space smells so good every time it is brewed. I got a Peru Plunder and it was fruity and light (a dangerous one). Their apple pie old fashioned has an interesting aftertaste in a good way. The bartender and the server were attentive and friendly as well. I had a great time and will definitely be coming back. -9.1/10
