I bought a new construction home and needed ceiling fans installed so I sent out a blast on Yelp. Magic solar was the first to respond and was actually able to get someone out to my house that day! Super impressed. They came out and had my fan installed in about 30 minutes. I've had it up for almost two weeks and have had no issues - no swaying, rocking, weird noises etc. When I got the fan installed, I forgot to tell the guy that I wanted the light kit put in so I could use the remote. Long story short, want a leaky roof and arrogant installers who f' things up this is your place. The sales rep was great and panels work as they should. My complaint comes about the installers and their extreme unprofesuolaism and lack of respect for my requests. I asked them to stay off a specific section of my roof due to the material and my roofer recommended to not walk or lay anything on that section. When I relayed this to the lead installer he responded with we are professionals and are on all types of roofs. Well the set a solar panel on it and tore the roof. Never informed me and tried to fix it with caulk which leaked in the second large storm we had. My roof was brand new and got my roofer out to fix and showed me the pictures of the test and attempted caulk fix. It had been months since the install but no one but Magic Sun had been on my roof to cause the leak and "caulk fix." read more

HUGE SHOUT out to Oscar at Magic Sun Solar and his amazing team. Our bills have more than doubled so time to go solar with PG&E plus new 14% increase next month. We got five different bids from local companies and Oscar was the only one that didn't attempt to oversell and the most non hardcore salesperson I have ever met and very different from the others I spoke with and received bids. He is very professional and knowledge based. We have two kids moving out to go to college and he said we can add more if needed later for the same price so why spend more. Tanner and Gabiano did the install and were very professional and always alerted me when they would be here and called or texted if a minute late. We had Magic Sun install solar on our first house, after getting bids from 5 other companies. Oscars bid and salesmanship far exceeded all others. Magic Sun did a great job, very clean and the system worked great. In Aug 2019, we sold our house and bought another. We immediately had Oscar our to take a look and give us a bid. We had Magic Sun install the solar system on our second house and again, they did an excellent job. Again, very clean install and the system works great. With SMUD rates going up twice in the next two years and with the way the community-owned-utility employees keep talking about a need to raise rates even higher in 2022 (see SMUD board meeting notes) I wanted to get my energy use offset as best I could. I received in-person quotes from 6 companies (3 local in the Sac area, 3 major companies). Only 2 of the 6 I considered viable, as the other 4 thought a pressured sales tactic was the way or inferior panels and the pricing was 10-15k higher. Magic Sun and one other local company were the last two. Adlai was the representative and he was very knowledgeable and answered most remaining questions I had. I knew the type of panels I wanted from solartalk forums and research. Panasonic and LG panels were the most praised for our Sacramento heat. Magic Sun had LG panels cheaper than the competition so I went with them. The pricing would have me net even as of 7 years and 2 months and that was assuming the current SMUD rates. Based on what I've seen, the system will pay for itself in about 6.5 years or better. As I said, the SMUD rates are going way up. They no longer are going to hang their hat on having the near lowest rate in CA. Had a great experience from start to finish. Started the contract in June 2019. They were busy and were upfront that the install wouldn't be for 8-10 weeks. We did all the front end paperwork (I paid for it outright, no loan) so there was a bit better pricing as with most places for a job of this size. Solar was installed early September and it took SMUD forever to put in their smart meter. Just had it turned on Monday, September 23 and it's been generating lots of electricity. Price was great and I'll get my 30% back next year when tax time comes. The only thing I told them, when asked about any part of the process that could have been better, was just an email between the install and the next step (SMUD power meter install). I figured something was going on but didn't know when. But it's a small thing. The rest of it was exceptional. Great company to support. I had a 30 panel system installed by Magic Sun for almost 3 weeks now and this review is based off my experience with Magic Sun and EnPhase (The hardware/Software company they partner with). Installation was smooth and went exactly as explained by Oscar. It was about 8 weeks from signing to install. A little longer then I would have wanted but given the 30% rebate still in play it's understandable. The system was installed in 1 day and online with EnPhase's software to monitor my solar production. That's where my issues began. I'm a technical type of person and have really good wifi coverage in my house. I monitor all devices on my network and have never had an issues staying connected until now. The Enphase hardware disconnects from my wifi network EVERY morning at around 3am. When that happens you cannot log into EnPhase app to monitor your near real time production. Since this is new hardware I thought this would be a setting or some sort of support available, There isn't. You are on your own. I can bring the device back online by manually rebooting it in the box EVERY DAY but in 2019 is that acceptable? I was told to contact EnPhase. I did and they seemed clueless. I have worked in IT support for over 20 years and when I told the EnPhase techmy problem and that I can bring the device back online by rebooting it EACH DAY, He told me to reboot it and called it FIXED. The next day it's offline again. I asked him about server side alerts on his side that would indicate the problem and he had no clue what I was asking. I guess I will just reboot the hardware anytime I want to real time reading...... ? If you are a technical person and really want to keep an eye on what you are producing then I would not recommend this system. If you have no interest in monitoring your system and just want to see the results on your electric bill then I guess the system is fine. The energy you produce does pull to your electric company and is not affected by this problem. How I would rank each company since you have to use both. My husband I had talked about getting solar, off and on, for many years. Years ago it was outrageously expensive. Then, this past January, we had a company, V3, stop outside our driveway and started talking with us about solar systems and a deal that seemed to good to be true. The sales guys (2) informed us that we could get a solar system installed, no money out of pocket, and they would finance us for the next 25 years. We decided to meet with them the following week and see exactly what this deal was all about. We met and they had a great presentation that in hindsight was a sales pitch learned from a manual. They answered all of our questions and we decided to go with this company. Then I happen to read a post, on our local "Nextdoor", where someone was asking for info on energy alternatives to PG&E. I posted that we were about to go with (V3) when another member responded that they themselves had gone with this company and were highly upset and wished they had not done so but were now committed. I immediately did some further research and low and behold the deal WAS to good to be true. Fortunately I found out in time to cancel the contract. Because of that Nextdoor post I continued to read review after review of folks who had done their own extensive research on solar companies, Surprisingly I kept seeing "Magic Sun Solar", a local company, pop up with great reviews. I gave Magic Sun a call and Adlai Outo came out to meet with us. He was very professional and knowledgeable. My husband again asked many questions and Adlai was great and answered them all. We had learned to ask more specific questions this time around. Not once did Adlai try and push us to buy from Magic Sun. We decided to just commit ourselves and go ahead and get a system with Magic Sun. We signed on February 7th, 2020 and the job was completed on April 9th. We received our first PG&E bill, since having the system installed, and it was only $9.60. That amount included a CA Climate Credit of $17.87. Last year, at this time, it was $165.28. Yes, it cost us a lot to purchase the system, but nothing like it was even 10 years ago, AND "we" get the tax credit, not the solar company. We do not know how many years we will stay in this home and enjoy the benefits...but if the projections are right...it will be a home improvement that will greatly add to the sale price of our home. This is the last year to take full advantage of the Federal Tax Credit for new solar installations. It's a 30% credit for 2019, then it drops to 26% in 2020 and 22% in 2021. After that, no residential tax credit. This is why we were motivated this year to look at solar for our home. There is a lot of very good information online when learning about the solar industry and what to look for when selecting a company. We found a lot of information via energysage.com. Although we didn't use their quoting tool, we did assemble a list of key questions to ask prospective companies. These twenty or so questions covered the type of panels, the panel warranty, the workmanship warranty, the efficiency, certification, inverter information and warranty, etc. Instead of asking multiple companies for a quote, I FIRST wanted them to answer these questions so I had an apples to apples baseline. From here, I decided which companies to invite to quote. This process worked well. One of the first things I wanted to see was how responsive a company would be to answering my questions. If the response was complete and fast, then I could assume that working with them would most likely be efficient. It's worth noting that one local company, Energy Saving Pros, refused to even answer the questions. The sales manager there implied that I would not be a good customer for them since I wanted to research important things up front. This made no sense but did reveal their "DNA" and not a company I wanted on my roof! I knew I wanted a "local" company. Not that the large, national brands are not decent, but I greatly value customer service and have found local companies usually have better service. Magic Sun was an easy selection. First, Magic Sun promptly answered all my questions. Second, Magic Sun uses top rated panels. They use LG and Panasonic panels. These are two of the highest rated panels in terms of efficiency and power generation. We ended up going with the Panasonic panels due to their efficiency with regards to heat tolerance. High Sacramento temps actually decrease the efficiency of all solar panels but these Panasonic panels do best in the heat and they are slightly cheaper than the high powered LG panels. Third, inverters are critical to your system. Solar panels may be on top, but it's the inverter that does all the real work. Choosing an inverter technology is the most critical decision you'll make when going solar. Cheap systems use string inverters - when one panel has a problem, the whole string of panels will. With Microinverters, when one panel has shade or a problem, only that panel is affected. Also, with microinverters, you can monitor each panel separately. I saw advantages to these versus string inverters or even power optimizers. Magic Solar uses Enphase microinverters. I worked with Neil Hurlock. Neil was very knowledgeable and easy to work with. Neil's crew (Zack and others) were amazing. They were clean and efficient. Install took 2 days due to weather but 1-day install can be expected. They handle all the interface with PG&E (and Pioneer) as well as the building permit and inspection. This is a family-run business and it's obvious they care very much about EARNING your business. I have no doubt that they will be here instantly if I ever need them. They use the top-rated products and manage to hold down costs. When my wife and I first bought our house in Rocklin in May, we knew that we were looking at potentially high electric bills. Having a single speed pool pump and having to use the air conditioner on typical hot days, I started getting anxious about our PG&E bills. Our neighbors told us that it is not uncommon to have $400 - $500+ PG&E bills because of using the A/C and pool pump. Our first bill had us living in our house for only 20 days but our bill was around $325.00 That's not even for a full month! I have always been interested in solar power but I knew that it is not a cheap thing to have installed on our house. There are so many questions to ask when deciding on solar and what company to go with: 1) Lease or buy? 2) Will we get a tax credit? 3) What brand of solar panels to use? 4) What output of solar panels to have installed? 5) Central inverter, solar optimizer, or micro-inverters and what brands? 6) How many panels? 7) What's the warranty on parts and labor? 8) How will it look on our house from an aesthetic standpoint? 9) What company to go with for the solar panel installation? How long have they been in business? Are they reputable? Are they honest? Are they knowledgeable and experienced? 10) Price? 11) Cost savings and what is the ROI and how long would it take to pay off our system in terms of PG&E bill savings. 12) What type of electric service should we sign up for. The above are definitely not all the questions that one should ask but just a portion. It's such a daunting process that requires patience and a lot of research. Oscar came out and not only was he very professional and knowledgeable, but he was a pleasant person to talk to. At no point in our consultation was he pushy or was he using high pressure sales tactics. He brought a lot of documentation for us to review at our leisure and also went over everything in layman's terms. I am a tech junkie so I have done my fair share of research. I know a lot of the technology involved but I can definitely appreciate Oscar taking the time to explain everything. All of the questions that I listed above was covered by Oscar. I didn't realize that there were different kinds of panels out there... polycrystalline vs. monocrystalline. Many companies out there use the cheaper polycrystalline panels which are not as efficient as the more expensive monocrystalline panels. The differences were explained and we could have gone with cheaper panels if we wanted to. The next big question was how to choose between central inverter, solar optimizers, or microinverters. The biggest thing that sold me was that microinverters are installed under each panel. With central inverters and solar optimizers, if one or more panels are generating power at lower efficiency compared to the other ones (shade, cloud, rain, etc), the rest of the panels will only generate power at the lowest producing panel(s). That's not the case with microinverters as each panel generates possible at the highest possible efficiency. If one or several panels are underperforming due to shade, cloud, rain, malfunctions, then only those panels generate power at diminished levels leaving the rest of the panels to generate at peak efficiency. Another great asset is with the Enphase setup that we have, there is a central hub that controls the microinverters and also allows for visibility into many parameters of power generation, efficiency, and technical issues if any. Magic Sun provides the software and access into my system so that I can geek out and check functionality per panel. It has a cool playback function that allows me to see the panels in action over time. That in itself would take another couple of pages to rave about. :-) Another big thing is that there is no large inverter unit that is installed on the side of the house or garage that takes up a lot of space. Also, we did not need a second electrical meter to be installed. The small Enphase Enform monitoring and communications gateway is smaller than most home Wi-Fi routers. After speaking with Oscar and several other solar companies, we decided to go with Magic Sun. I was impressed with Oscar and Magic Sun's reputation. So, we ended up selecting: 1) (21) LG Mono-X Monocrystalline 305 watt panels 2) Enphase microinverters 3) Enphase Enform communications gateway with Wi-Fi connectivity 4) Roof rail mounting system where the mounts were directly attached to the roof rafters and the roof shingles are slid back into place for a clean install. Everything is waterproofed during the install. The install was completed in a single day. It was a painless process and the three man team were professional, quick, and very knowledgeable. What an awesome experience! We have gotten our first PG&E statement and I can't wait until the 1-year true-up bill. Magic Sun is the best. We decided to purchase our system after dealing with high PG&E bills since 2007 (in the $400-$500 range each month). Oscar came and answered all our questions. He invited us to the office/warehouse where my husband (who is a contractor) got all his detailed questions answered. After getting the plan approvals through the County, the crew arrived at 7:30 am on a Tuesday and they finished the installation of 42 panels on the roof of our barn in 4 hours. Very efficient! Once PG&E put us on their solar power customer list, we are now getting credit for the power we are "selling" back to them. Oscar came back out and showed us our electric meter - it was running backwards! We now get to really use our A/C instead of being worried about the high cost. We worked with Adlai at Magic Sun Solar to have solar panels installed on our roof. It has now been 3 months and we couldn't be happier. It is a hot day in July and my rooftop array lets me keep the air conditioner running without any worries about PG&E's monthly bill. I am an electrical engineer, so in addition to excellent service, I wanted to have one of the industry's top panels installed. Magic Sun works with LG, whose panels are very well regarded. They also are financially stable. If you are thinking about going with a different panel, look at the stock price trend of the manufacturer. Then consider whether a 30 year warranty is any good if the manufacturing company is bankrupt. (it's not) Magic Sun uses Enphase for their microinverters and monitoring software. The monitoring software is much nicer than that which is provided by other companies. A big benefit is that it will give you per-panel reports. Why is that important? Suppose you only see aggregate performance and one panel out of 20 goes out. It is a 5% drop in overall output, and it isn't enough of a drop to be covered under warranty. It won't get fixed because you don't know what happened. If you can see what happens to each panel, then you can ask that the bad panel be fixed under warranty. We did extensive research (our second time around putting on solar). This time we wanted a company responsive to our calls, a company who really understood solar panels & output (especially since we have limited space on roof now). Magic Sun Solar know what they are doing and are very competitive in their pricing (other companies wanted to match their price but Magic Sun gave us the best bid right from the get go. A few days after installation, we had our AC go out we thought it might be related... We called Magic Sun to inquire; they immediately sent their electrician to investigate and it turned out to be a bad thermostat for our AC (nothing related to the solar). We love their attentiveness, professionalism, personal care & they their use of the best panels in the market... This is a long overdue praise of Magic Sun Solar. Because our roof is 30 years old it was strongly recommended that we have a ground mount installation. I contacted one other local company in addition to Magic Sun. We selected Magic Sun because they seemed to have greater knowledge about ground mount systems, were more than $1000 less expense than the competitor, and they accepted credit cards which the other company didn't (lots of frequent flyer miles). This was a difficult installation as first of all a large number (56) panels were needed for our large home. Secondly the panels had to be mounted on a very steep grade on our property which made moving materials and operating a tractor very difficult. Brandon (owner) and his brother Neil did all the hard work. We couldn't be more pleased with the work they did and with the operation of the system. We had it installed in August and immediately our PG&E bill went to zero and we had a credit balance. Needless to say, during the winter we generate less than the energy needed to run our home but the power we need from PG&E is still very minimal. We highly recommend Magic Sun and we're so happy we went with them. read more

I then heard about Magic Sun Solar and had the opportunity to talk to them and I felt they were strait shooters. First of all,I didn't even purchase my solar system from Magic Solar. But I wish I would've. I used a different contractor that bailed out on me as soon as he received final payment. The solar system was installed but offline and the interconnect paperwork with PGE wasn't done. Anyway,I called Magic Solar explained my situation and both Adam and Leona jumped right on it. I was treated like a longtime customer and they promptly got me online and interconnected with PGE. It was awesome. If you're considering a solar system at least give these guys a shot.
