I came here on the recommendation from a couple of friends that come here often. I needed gel on my toes and a gel manicure for my wedding. They were happy to accommodate me when I arrived without an appointment. The woman completing my work did question why I was not doing a full pedicure but was happy to oblige with my reasoning. Several other patrons were getting pedicures when I arrived and several more came in when I was getting my fingernails worked on. The process was clean and quick and not outrageously priced! I paid $20 for the gel on my toes and $30 for the gel manicure and stones added. I'll probably be back whenever I feel like treating myself or before vacations. read more

TRAGIC NAILS is hands down this is the worst nail experience I've ever had. Not one good thing about it. I have the most beautiful long natural nails and the lady hacked them and didn't even paint them all the way. Soak them in straight acetone without even wrapping them and my poor beautiful long nails disintegrated. There was dip polish all over my skin and she didn't even cut my cuticles. The lady doing my nails was just complaining the whole time about how long my nails are and when she was done she commented how long it took, and had the nerve to tell me not to question about the price next time. Upon finding out my nail tech was retiring and selling the business I decided to try magic nails based on comparison of reviews and distance from my house. The young man who did my nails did such a poor job. He cut my cuticles in two places that caused them to bleed. He also used an air blower to dry my polish which caused some blue dust to land on my nails that I did not notice until I got home. Never bothered to clean under my nails even when I pointed it out to him and the filing was so uneven that I redid them when I got home. Do not waste your money. I have never posted a review but was so impressed, so here's my first. I had nothing planned (memorial day) and had some very outgrown acrylics that needed removal. This place was actually open, and upon calling I was told to come in 30 min. I showed up on time and there was 5 people who also walked in so I had to wait..they said 20 min but only took abt 10. I was helped by Susan, who was not overly chatty etc as I hate small talk, so I liked her enough. To remove my old acrylics, she used a new acrylic to slide underneath. I was very hesitant and informed her a few times that my nails are weak and thin and I was afraid they'd tear. When she got to the 2nd nail, it tore and hurt making me jump. Thankfully, for the rest of the removal, she had me soak in pure acetone which really did the job. I also mentioned the fact that my hands are big, but with long fingers and wide nails beds, the wrong manicure could give me a serious case of man hands ;) she really took her time to shape them and file them down to look feminine - this is the biggest reason for my review and high tip. I have NEVER, in 30 years of salons, had anyone customize the perfect shape to flatter my hands! The end result was a great experience but the big negative was the 5-top before me who were just plain rude and borderline racist. Being 1/2 asian myself, I was becoming so irritated at the process due to the ignorant ladies before me but Susan did amazing and I'll be back again! I have been going to this salon since March, I love them. They are quick and usually do a great job. However lately the gel has seemed weird. Yesterday I got my nails done and the girl didn't let them dry all the way. This morning the polish started to curl up like it does when it's not dry and finally it peeled up. I ran in to Magic Nails on a whim, late in the afternoon for a gel polish change. I wasn't going to be overly picky about the color, since I'm planning to get another gel mani on Monday before I head out of town. I was mainly concerned with getting some polish on so my nails wouldn't break before my next nail appt. The place is nice, the folks are friendly and I was able to get right in. So, EVEN THOUGH I wasn't going to be anal about having *exactly* the perfect color, I was irked when they didn't have ANY of the shades that I picked. I finally just went with what the tech suggested - a lightish pink, which is SO not me - mostly bc I just wanted this to be done quickly. I'm finding this to be the case more and more often these days - if you're looking for the neutral range - #104 or #105 (I forget which brand it is - not OPI) EVERY salon is out. Seriously, if these shades are your "best sellers" then freaking keep them in stock! It's not complicated, really. My only other "complaint" which isn't really a complaint is having to get up and go to a sink to wash my hands - twice. That's not a total deal breaker, but it can sway me from one salon to another. My tech did *exactly* what I requested and did not shorten my nails at all. She shaped them beautifully, and three days later the polish is holding firm. The polish change (no mani) was $25 so very reasonable! Magic Nails won't be my first choice in Reno nail salons, but it's definitely in the #2 fallback position. read more

I don't often get manicure/pedicures but made an appointment for three of us. Forget about making an appointment as they just move people here and there and switch techs mid service. My daughter asked for clear polish then the guy proceeded to put on a glitter gel and charged 10 dollars more without even asking if that's what she wanted. The gal that worked on me made me bleed twice by cutting my toes and when I expressed that I was hurt the first time she did it a second time and to make matters worse what she cut off she wiped the discarded nail bit on my foot! Not wiping it into the towel or water. They give you one price when you sit down then tell you it's 10 $ more or don't tell you at all and charge you a different price. The shop is extremely dirty, like I wouldn't put your purse on the floor. I watched two ladies walk out after they were left to soak their feet for 30 minutes without any further attention. I am not prejudiced, if the language barrier is so great that the techs don't understand what service you are wanting or the actual price of the service I can't see how this is enjoyable or fair to the costumer. The owner did not care when I expressed that my daughter did not get what she asked for then was up charged or the fact the I was cut and bleeding in two different places. I can't recommend this place in the least. I wonder what all the 5 stars are about. Oh and I forgot to mention that the massage chairs are not sanitized in between uses, mine didn't work so the owner attempted to fix it while I was in it having my toes bleed. read more

I haven't had a bad experience with any of the techs. Last week I came in with a friend. She opted for a full set and was just as happy with her experience as I was with mine. I'm so confused about all this talk about great pedicures. I booked this place for me and a friend based off yelp reviews and it was a bit of a let down. We both recieved the most basic pedicure service with a hot water soak, lotion, and trimmed and painted toes. There was zero massage, zero hot wrap, no filing or trimming cuticles or tending to calluses. My heels actually left rougher than when I walked in. Got my nails done not even a week ago and this is how they look. Ken did my nails as my friend recommended me to come here.. First of all the gel was bubbly and he knew it was bc he kept trying to file it and fix it but only fixed 2. All the other ones were bubbly and he refused to fix them and said "it's ok" and walked out. I saw my nail was not filled and filed properly and it was already starting to lift and he didn't want to fix it... he didn't care. And look now all the edges by my cuticles are cracked off and my pointer finger is completely lifted and about to fall off. Also got an underarm wax and it was quick and painless. I asked for my eyebrows to be waxed as well but the lady said I wasn't ready, yet. I was passing through & stopped at Magic nails for a gel manicure & pedicure. The staff were all friendly & welcoming, which is nice. They were able to seat me immediately as a walk in. The end results are just "okay." Many of my fingernails had polish up over my cuticles which means they've grown out and are peeling sooner & have a sharp edge (pictured). I'm a massage therapist so jagged edge doesn't work for me! After she finished she used a file to separate my nails from my skin which means there was just too much clear coat used that it was seeping under the nail. On my toes I noticed she used the angled clippers to clip the excess polish in the corners which I haven't seen done before... I noticed they used previously used clippers, files, buffers & pumice stone. I can only hope those items had been disinfected before using on my skin but they weren't taken out of any packaging read more

Because of my recent review on my last visit Ken contacted me and told me that he would be able to fix my nails and he sure proved his word. The red on the bottom turned out perfect using regular polish instead of the gel (fight dry out bubbly) and the nail shape was more defined and even covering up the red tips all the way. He made sure to tell me whenever I feel like I don't like how my nails end up to always come back and have them fixed. This is the only nail salon in Reno I go to because it's on my college budget and the customer service is friendly. They even crack a few jokes here and there which makes a good time for everyone. They have tons of colors to Choose from and are very affordable (for the most part) Its $28 for a full set of acrylics with regular polish. I picked out my nail color and asked the lady to paint them in regular polish because I simply can't afford the fancy gel polish. She obviously didn't care what I wanted and gave me gel polish anyways without telling me she was. Second, after asking me the shape I want and the length and doing it she then tells me that she's charging me for shape and length. When obviously it's to late to change my mind because she already shaped and cut. If she would have told me before it wouldn't have been a problem. So instead of paying $28 for acrylics WITH REGULAR POLISH. I payed $50 for gel acrylics. If you want to get your nails done here they charge $5 for shape and $5 for length, thought you should know before they surprise you. My nails are cute but not $50 worth cute. read more

Negative stars. Not only was my pedicure yesterday terrible but they STOLE my money. My total was 85$ for a mani/pedi. Tipped them in cash 17$. After I look at my bank account today I was charged 102$. They added a tip for exactly 17$ on my receipt which I left blank! They really think I'm stupid & wouldn't remember tipping them in cash, which I do because it benefits them! Lesson learned cross out the tip section so they can't fill it in themselves. FRAUDS and bad business. I called and they said they would return the 17$ to my card when "the guy" is at the salon on Monday. Supposedly this is the only person who can return my money. My roommate and I love coming here for pedicures. I don't remember the names of the people who have done my nails, but I received great service from everyone I've had so far. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because I'm extremely picky about my nails when I get acrylics done. I got a pink and white done here once before a pageant and, although it wasn't awful, it wasn't as near-perfect as I would have liked. When she was curing the gel with the alcohol, she used a dirty, already used piece of cotton that had pink on it (there was not any pink on my nails). She also wore the gloves that she used on her previous client. Not to mention they don't properly clean their tools nor do they sanitize anything.
