National Lock & Key - Professional services

    National Lock & Key

    (107 reviews)

This review reflects only my personal experience and opinion regarding my interaction with one…read moreNational Key & Lock technician on July 1 and July 2, 2026. It is not a review of National Key & Lock as a company or of any other employee. July 1, 2026 I had a scheduled appointment with a National Key & Lock technician through my American Home Shield/Frontdoor home warranty plan to have rekey service performed on my home. Before the appointment, I received written information from American Home Shield explaining that the rekey service included: * Rekey up to 6 keyholes * Provide 4 identical copies of new keys * Each key will work on each keyhole that has been rekeyed * Test the new keys to ensure functionality Based on that information, I understood that the rekey service included four identical copies of new keys. When the technician arrived, he asked how many doors needed rekey service. I told him there were three and showed him two of the doors, explaining that the third door was located in my basement. The technician then asked for my keys. I went upstairs and brought down my original house keys on a keychain. When I asked why he needed them, he told me he was going to copy them. I explained that I had requested rekey service through my American Home Shield/Frontdoor home warranty plan. The technician then told me I would have to pay $15.00 for each new key. I explained that this did not match the written information I had received from American Home Shield and that I was requesting only the rekey service included in my coverage. To avoid any misunderstanding, I contacted American Home Shield before authorizing any work. During our conversation, the technician stated that this was "between him and me, not them." I requested a callback from American Home Shield so I could verify my coverage before proceeding. Throughout our discussion, I repeatedly explained that I was requesting only the rekey service included in my American Home Shield coverage and was not requesting any additional keys or services. The technician then left my home without performing any work. As he walked toward his vehicle, I asked, "Are you leaving?" At approximately 4:01 p.m., I photographed the technician as he left my property and entered his vehicle. During our entire conversation, my nephew was seated in my dining room and heard the discussion, including the conversation regarding the proposed $15.00 charge for each new key. July 2, 2026 The following day, I received a call from an American Home Shield supervisor. I was informed that the technician had reported completing the rekeying of two of my doors and that the third door could not be rekeyed because there was no key. Based on my personal knowledge, no work was performed on any of my doors, and none of my locks were rekeyed. American Home Shield advised me that another locksmith would be assigned to complete the rekey service at my home. Had I not reviewed the written information provided by American Home Shield before the appointment, I may have believed that I was required to pay an additional $15.00 for each new key. Because I reviewed my coverage beforehand, I understood what my American Home Shield plan stated was included in the rekey service. This review reflects only my personal experience with one National Key & Lock technician on July 1 and July 2, 2026. Other customers may have different experiences.

Outstanding service! Highly recommend this locksmith…read more I put in a Yelp project request to get quotes for key extraction services, and Locksmith Dash were the very first to respond and could be at my house in 20 mins for a quoted price that was less than other quotes received. Not only did he extract the key from my Baldwin lock within minutes, he oiled the cylinder so our other key fit/turned better and he even polished the rubbed bronze faceplate up so it looks even better on our front entry! He asked if I needed extra keys to replace the one that broke in the cylinder, and he went back to his shop to make proper Baldwin keys (they're a unique shape and better than generic ones you make in a key copy machine), returning a set of new keys to our home shortly thereafter. Communication was excellent too, between the Yelp interface as well as call/text once we established contact. He would call/text to give an ETA for arrival, and was prompt and courteous. He was even great with our dog who jumped all over him at the door each time. (Dogs know who are the good people!) Can't ask for a better experience at a very affordable price. Thank you!

I particularly am grateful for the Baldino's Reston shop's master lock smith who took on a World War II lock project. He was able to open my father's WWII United States Navy officer's foot locker (lost key) and inside the foot locker he found a WWII US Govt issue US Marine Hurd heavy duty pad lock (also missing it's key and collector's item). The master lock smith was able to source the missing keys and replace them both. I also entrusted Baldino's Lock & Key Service Reston with cutting a replacement Porsche Red key for my classic Porsche. Thank you Baldino's for you honest quality service over the years.

I told hin to change the pins in the existing lock and he did not. He changed the outside cylinder so that the back door two cylinders and the front door outside cylinder had the same key . He spent one hour and we were charged almost $900. However, he did meet our basic requirement: to defeat any one who had made an copy of our door keys and tried subsequently to enter the house.

Also, they're replacing the two rugs affected by debris (normally a drop cloth is used). As a result, I'm updating the rating to 4 stars. CONS - Sticker shock for labor $1135; no clean-up of metal or wood shards, chunks; late arrival. $95 service call fee in addition to flat rate fees for work: $350 install bedroom deadbolt + another $195 to replace its knob ($545); $195 each to replace deadbolt/handle sets on front & patio doors; $100 each to replace knobs on 1 closet & mudroom door. Labor $1135+ $95 fee. Arrived 9:50 for 9am appointment. He was unable to rekey mudroom lock without a key so I had to buy a lock on the spot $50. The bedroom deadbolt I'd bought had a problem so I needed to buy a set $100 + the extra $195 labor. I felt a great deal of confusion regarding several problems with fit that he had to overcome. The replacement lock/handle sets I provided were new Schlages to replace old Schlages but the doors are old ?? One of the fit problems required a 45 minute trip back to his shop. 3 hours of labor became 4.5 hours - 9am-1:40pm vs. 9:50-10:40; 11:30-1:40pm. I was dismayed when I discovered the mess of metal shards by the patio door - we have a dog & I run around barefoot. Ditto the wood chunks. I can't think of the last time I had a repairman in who didn't clean up his work area. PROS - Most of the labor was verbally defined once he arrived & before the work began. I should have asked about pricing when making the appointment or taken advantage of the free estimate advertised. I based my trust on Yelp reviews that mentioned fair/competitive prices. (I'm not usually so trusting.) I could have stopped right then - gotten the free written estimate & followed up with quotes from other locksmiths to determine if these labor rates were competitive. The finished work looks good & performs well. The locksmith was professional, polite and tried to explain what issues he was facing.
