Madrona Bar & Grill has excellent views right on the water, making it perfect for a nice day on the patio or even a rainy day spent inside overlooking the bay. The Salmon Tacos were really good -- each came with a nice piece of grilled salmon. The Cheesesteak was decent, not the best I've ever had, but that's fair given we're a long way from Philly. The beer selection was also solid and paired well with the meal. Overall, it's a great spot for lunch or a sunset visit when you're on Orcas Island -- good food, great views, and a relaxing atmosphere.

Lauren,the best waitress ever.

Last knight, we celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary. We call ahead and made a reservation with a special request of being seated by a window with a view. The table that was given to us, had the most incredible and breathtaking view. Our server's name Lauren L., Gave us a wonderful experience. Her service exceeded our expectations. Thank you Lauren!! Next time we visit the island make sure that we'll look for you. Food was out of this world.

Dropped in for lunch. Service was quick and checked in regularly. The views from the dining area are spectacular. Food came quickly and was good. Bisque was my favorite but everything else was good as well.

The views are unbeatable at Madrona Bar & Grill! I heard great things about the halibut fish and chips but unfortunately they were out of it when we visited so we opted for the cod fish and chips- which were amazing as well. Our food came out quickly and hot. The menu has many options for wine, cocktails, and beers in addition to the great food!

I came for lunch. The place was practically empty so I was able to sit outside no problem! Absolutely stunning views. Decided to have a burger. It wasn't the best I've ever had. The atmosphere and vibes definitely a factor in things tasting good. Hot and fresh. Cooked a bit well for me. Despite that I enjoyed my lunch. The amber style beer was refreshing too. I finished inside with a smaller pour of a cider. Holly the bartender, hostess and waitress was super friendly and sweet. Street parking was a bit tricky. But with patience I found a close up spot. Happy eating. SYOY.

We came here for some drinks and appetizers. We sat at step top by the bar. Mason the bartender was so knowledgeable and attentive. We enjoyed the spectacular view and some delicious drinks. Very historic building. Would definitely come back.

Fresh fruit margarita.. sucks!

Party of 2, walk in and only 1 other person in the place and yet it was a big deal to find us a table. Host sat us while talking on the phone (not a deal breaker), but the fruit margarita tasted like orange juice and not drinkable (in my opinion) so I ordered a beer not once did either server ask us about the margarita sitting full on the table. We ordered fish and chips which was not bad but, also nothing to rave over. This place had a very nice view and I'm sure visitors probably would be the most frequent customers. In my opinion skip this place there are other places w/a view and better food and drinks.

A solid 3.5 We were able to walk up and get reservations for a table of 4 and come back in 25 minutes. So that was pretty awesome. Our server was very friendly and pretty attentive so definitely no complaints there. Great views from the restaurant but from where we were sitting there was also a few flies buzzing around. So that was not the most pleasant. We ordered a few appetizers and I'd definitely say pass on the oysters and hummus. The hummus was thick and chunky and not very palatable. A delicious hummus should be creamy and spread easy. The oysters were alright but were just missing some seasoning or something. The coconut shrimp was the best appetizer but nothing I haven't had anywhere else. For my drink I ordered a double fruit margarita and it was okay. A little heavy on the citric side so I didn't finish. Now for my main course, I went with their nightly special which was a coconut curry mussel and this was most definitely a 5/5. It was creamy, slightly spicy, packed full of flavor and the mussels were sweet and fresh. The dish was everything I was hoping for. It absolutely made up for everything I lacked in the appetizers. My husband ordered the portabella burger and I must say when that came out we were all slightly disappointed about how small the mushroom was and my husband noted that his mushroom wasn't juicy and was a little on the dry side. Overall a decent experience for the limited options on the island.

Food with breathtaking views of the sound and other islands! The beer and wine were so fresh, and the waitress was super sweet. The salmon tacos had really fresh fish, pineapples, and guacamole, and the coconut shrimp was delicious

Good food. We go often when on island. I like the shrimp wedge salad and their pastas.

We're happy we dined here while we staying on Orcas Island! This is truly a watering hole. The restaurant gets busy with hungry visiting and local diners. They're family friendly and dog friendly! There's a couple spots on their property--one being their fish market and deli the other being the place to order food! Seating is first come first serve at their communal tables and all outdoors. The workers work hard and do their best juggling lots of hungry customers. Everyone who helped us was kind and sweet! They have a variety of foods to please all tastebuds. Along with seafood they have BBQ, kid friendly options, and specials. For dinner I had the Spicy Halibut Sandwich but grilled instead of fried. The fish was delicious and everything was fresh and filling. My family enjoyed their chowder and oysters. We also shared a Strawberry Rhubarb Pie which was a slice of heaven--sweet, tangy, and divine! I can see why this is a popular place! If you find yourself on Orcas Island, Buck Bay Shellfish Farm is a must visit! Great seafood and a great ambiance. They have their own gravel lot you can park at and it's easy to find off EJ Young Road since it's a popular spot!

We had reservations and got a great table at the window, looking out over the water. Problem was, the windows were filthy with sea salt grime which really obscured the view. If waterside dining is your big appeal, clean the windows! Waiter arrived with menus but not a word. Not to be deterred, I asked him how he was doing. "Oh, I'm really tired after a long weekend." and he shuffled off without a smile. Throughout the dinner, I tried to engage with him, and it turns out he is the Front Manager for the resort, and while he brightened up a little when we asked about him, he didn't show any attention or interest in us, which is just careless service. Food was mixed. We had steamed clams & an order of ciabatta for starters. Clams were OK, but the broth lacked any distinctive flavor. It could have been broth out of a can. Bread was just bread, nothing special. We shared the Bucatini with prosciutto in cream sauce for our main, and it was wonderful. But at $38 for a plate of pasta, it better be. Which speaks to the greater menu, where most the mains are from $40-$50. They can charge that because there are no other options in Doe Bay, but this food is not worth that price. Finally, their wine selection is embarrassingly small. 4 whites and 4 reds, no Chardonnay and no Cab. Really disappointing. Considering all the other rave reviews, if you are already in Doe Bay, and since there are no other options, you'll get a decent meal here, but I wouldn't drive to the far end of the island to pay these prices for a limited menu with tired, mediocre service.

Very impressive little store full of tons of stuff! Groceries, pantry staples, a small produce section, some premade deli food and cookies. I was looking for the bakery items. A previous review mentioned delicious homemade pastries. Finally as I choose a cookie and a salad for later I see them. A small pedestal plate with pastries. And on the countertop behind the register tons of croissants! I said, there they are! The two ladies working were not impressed. I asked for the flavors and the lady said, there is a menu right there. Ugh, not fully awake I realized a line had formed behind me. This is the spot to go before getting in a ferry. The sign was not clearly visible and I felt overwhelmed with the decision so I quickly decided on a raspberry almond. This is clearly a place for locals. The ambiance is cozy and warm, feeling like you are invited to dinner at your friends home, if your friend also happens to have an exceptional wine cellar, a farm, and is a wonderful chef. The way Duck Soup executes farm to table with such beautiful presentation is really a treat and the combination of textures and flavors was a journey that is worth a trip to San Juan Island alone. We had wonderful service and we were so grateful for recommendations on how to navigate through the menu! We started with the Spiced Carrots - they were incredibly paired with a salad, cracker, and cheese combo - perfection. For the main course we split the scallops and the filet. Scallops were served with fresh fingerling potatoes and this fresh, citrus/herb forward sauce that was so bright and refreshing (we are still talking about it). The filet was cooked great and served with a Demi glacé that was also just so perfect. the pomme puree was also flavorful and had a lot of amazing flavor on its own! Tucked in an isolated, forested area 10 minutes away from the downtown area, the restaurant was a little lodge building you had to drive to on a dark road. Was it worth the trip? Definitely! We were greeted by the servers right away and were seated right next to the wine bottle area. The interior of Duck Soup had a really cozy and warm ambiance to it; it felt like the ideal place for couples and families. We were first served bread with anchovy pate, which, as a bread enthusiast, is something I've never had before. This is something I certainly want to add to my food circle. Our main dishes were pretty good! My girlfriend got the House-Made Tagliatelle Pasta, and I got the Duck Cassoulet. Personally, I like the pasta more than my dish because my duck dish was mostly beans. Even though I wasn't a huge fan of the beans, the quality of the roasted duck was really good. Thank you to the Duck Soup staff for having us! This is worth a try if you're planning a Friday Harbor trip.
