I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I came in for the first time today expecting it to be the local neighborhood dive bar (nothing wrong with that). This place was cleaner and nicer than I expected. Several TVs but so many that it's strictly a sports bar. Same goes for the décor - some (real) football gear, including our beloved Sounder's championship scarf, but not so much that it turns non-sports fans off. Windows covering two walls makes this place brighter and cleaner looking than a lot of similar places. Good drinks, big portions of good food, friendly efficient service. Hummmm. Called yesterday to get the hours to see if they'd be open for the Women's World Cup, and I was informed they would be open by 8am for the kickoff. Ha! They opened at 8:08.5am! So annoying!!! This isn't the worst. They only had 2 of 4 TVs on, and the drop down screen wasn't turned on until halfway through second half! It was 15 minutes before waters and 1 menu for 4 people was dropped off. That was the last service or contact we had for almost 2 hours even though one of our party went up to the bar twice to get service (once for water and once for coffee). Tried to get coffee from the bar and was informed there were "no more mugs. Sorry." We repeatedly tried to flag down someone, called out after staff and tried to make eye contact; staff didn't seem to be receptive to say the least. Why were we the only table unserved?! No one even asked for a drink order! Take down everyone's drinks prior to not only getting food orders in, but even clearing plates! The tables on the west side of the room were serviced the whole time whereas the east side was neglected for some reason. They also opened with only 2 people (both too young to serve alcohol I'm told) and it was 40 minutes until a 3rd arrived and after an hour when a 4th came. Poor management of staffing and service. We were finally approached with 2 minutes left in stoppage time at the end of the game at about 10am. We informed the waiter of our plight and he seemed less than concerned. Talk about unprepared! Poor planning for a "sports bar." Get your act together!!!! read more

Food is really delicious. Setting is great - woodwork, dark, not divey, open. Slightly overpriced for a pub restaurant, maybe not though and I'm just stingy. This review is for the night of January 4, 2017. My girlfriend and I arrived around 745 and it was busy. We seat ourselves and anticipate the weekly trivia (more later). There were 2 waiters/bartenders for the entire place at the time (just 2!) and we were promptly notified that they were slammed and they were sorry for it; it looked like someone was running late or a no show. Anyways our waiter was extremely kind and even though they were short staffed we were served in about 25min and the food wasn't lacking..... So I love trivia nights. This was the worst. I blame the host, who tried but ultimately failed. He was way too slow. It took over an hour for 2 rounds and there was supposed to be 4 rounds. My girlfriend and I couldn't wait any longer and left halfway through. Funny thing is, he said he'd try to move fast and be done in 1.5 hours. Still a nice restaurant. read more

I've been to Madrona Arms three times since they opened. The first time I had the shepherds pie - - mostly mashed potatoes with assorted copied veggies that taste as if they came frozen from a bag. The second time, I had the Irish crab soup--excellent! But each time I've been there, I've been ignored by bartenders who wait on the men and seem to ignore single women - - even when I'm right in front of them. read more

I almost hate to say just how much we loved this place. We went for Sunday Brunch and there was no one there yet. Great. No waiting. Zach, our server, had a great humor and patience as we kept changing our mind. Four women, 4 different plates. We were all very happy. Our food was fabulous, well seasoned, and came quickly. I think it's more a 3.5 but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Definitely a big step up from the prior alehouse but that place was terrible. Pros: longer hours so you can actually catch a game here. Decent service. Cons: a bit pricier than I was expecting for a pub. Pretty close to St clouds prices but not nearly the quality. Burger was $13. kids food needs a bit of work. A lot of madrona kids are young. Chicken breast was seasoned as if for an adult. it was very tasty for me, I know this bec my kid wouldn't touch it after the first bite. Also kids menu said chicken breast and steamed veggies. Was not expecting celery sticks and ranch dressing. Will definitely go back as it offers something very needed in the neighborhood. Loved the food and vibe of this place. They have a great fire place and we asked to sit near it for drinks-we ended up having a cozy dinner by the fireplace. We love traveling around Seattle every weekend and finding new treasures and exploring new Culinary experiences. Today we found a golden spot in Madrona. The Madrona Arms. The Bloody Mary's, the burger and the Ruben were above and beyond; but the service from Katie was even above that! Great conversations about music and general Seattle nostalgia. Really the worst burger I've had in my life - I ordered a medium cooked cheeseburger and it arrived as a burnt, hockey puck of meat. Gross. The salad was like salad from a bag - canned olives and tomatoes and iceberg lettuce. My partner had chili, which was like warm, not tasty and in a tiny bowl - for $6. Glad to see the improvements over the old Ale House, especially the cleanliness and good atmosphere. The menu has a lot of options and great prices and the staff was super friendly and attentive. The kinks still need to be worked out on the menu though. Is this supposed to be Irish or British food? The Shepard's Pie was not a pie at all but more like eating oily hamburger soup, it didn't come with mashed potatoes or any pie shell and the veggies inside were obviously from a can. I plan to go back because I really want the place to succeed but for sure I won't order that again! My hope is that trivia night also starts up again and I applaud the football parties and other sports events planned. The beer selection is good (although I am not sure why a big screen TV needed to be dedicated to it). Nice job at bringing back a neighborhood pub feel. Keep working on that menu! read more

This place meets all the checklist items you'd want in a local pub. I fully plan on being a regular here for the next few years. - It is in Madrona, so it is kid friendly, which is an excellent way to get business in this neighborhood. - It offers a good selection of beer and hard alcohol (the whiskey selection is decent). Beer list needs to be printed... the hanging monitor thing doesn't work well for anyone. - It offers the food you'd expect at a pub. A lot of it is hit or miss. The pizzas were good, the fish and chips below average, the "irish dip" suffered from stale bread, the hummus is bland and watery, the mac and cheese is stellar. It is bar food, so don't expect the world here. - Great place to watch a game. The manager whipped up an excellent Bloody Mary on Seahawks Sunday. - Bartenders are friendly and talkative. So the not so good: - The service is friendly, but once you get your order in, you are usually ignored. It can take a long time to get a drink refilled, and you're best off getting up and tracking down the waiter. Probably because they are busy, but they often don't have continuity for the wait staff. One person may take your order while another will serve your food. This makes tipping a bit confusing. - Overall the food could use a big upgrade considering the prices you pay. - Always very noisy. Even when they are not busy, they crank up the music. Don't expect to come here for a quiet drink during the off-peak hours. read more

Thankfully the order was large enough to share because my boyfriends Irish dip was "one of the worst sandwiches" he'd ever had. We live in Madrona and the Arms is reasonably priced and convenient. The food is solid. That being said unless Brian is working, we get the worst service. Sometimes it's taken 20 minutes for our order to be taken. We went by to eat there this evening w our dogs and sat on their patio seating for 23 minutes before getting up and ordering Thai food to go across the street. If Brian's your waiter, definitely hit the place up! Otherwise, it's a hard pass. read more

I've been a neighborhood regular at this pub for quite some time now. Seen a lot of staff come in and out over the years. I love the pub, love the food, love the friendly crew. Beau is one of my favorite bartenders of all time! Always whippin up the best cocktails with just telling him what I'm in the mood for. Have to say some of the worst service ever. A group of us went in to "our neighborhood bar" to celebrate a friends birthday (6 to start) some of the group went up to order drinks for the birthday person and were told we couldn't order from the bar and we would have to go back to our seats and wait for a waitress. What? Then an unexperienced young waiter came over to bring water. One of us was chatting and happened to hit his arm when he was serving water. He stormed off in a huff, brought back 6 glasses and slammed them on the table with a pitcher of water, and said, "now I won't get spilled on! " And scurried away. Yes, scurry is the correct word No one realized that the water had spilled on him. We all looked at each other and decided this is really not a neighbor friendly place and we departed. Our other 4 friends arrived as we were making our way out the door. Won't go back. You lost 10 neighbors and a great deal of business. Too many other places to go rather than return. read more

Made a random stop here while waiting for my blankets to dry at the nearby laundromat. Not busy on a Sunday afternoon but the service is quite chilly. Picked up the drink menu already at the table and bartender/server immediately told me that the drink menu was "so out of date." Okay, so why not move it? Moving on we ordered two beers and wings. The Guinness was so watered down. When we mentioned it to the bartender he said it was a mix of Guinness and nitro. Not sure what that means but it tasted like a watered down Guinness. No water served at the table. My IPA w/ nitro was excellent but I was told in advance and that was my selection. This looks like a place of regulars and folks from the neighborhood. I'm from a close neighborhood and I say don't bother. Chilly service, mediocre food and 50% on beer. Keep walking. read more

Great addition to the neighborhood. The new place is a big improvement on the previous Madrona Alehouse. It's got a kind of an urban modern rustic feel with a nice big stone fireplace, live-edge wood tables, and cool decorations. Nice selection of beers on rotating taps listed on a screen. Showing soccer and football on the TVs. Seems pretty family friendly -- several families with small kids were there. Even on a Tuesday it was pretty crowded and the noise level was a little much; I feel like this could be improved if they put some sound-dampening material on the ceiling. The food is excellent. Since my hubs and I were there on a Tuesday he tried the Taco Tuesday fare: great little tacos for $2 and $3. You can get pork, chicken, beef, fish, or steak. I tried the clam chowder in a bread bowl ($9) which was incredible... HIGHLY recommended! The salad was nothing to write home about, though, and the cilantro-lime vinaigrette was a bit watery. There was also a guy who wasn't our server who kept checking on how things were going; I think he must have been a manager. The staff seem to have their act together. Wow! Am I the first reviewer? I guess so. I think this place has been open for about a week or so now and we live a couple blocks away so it was time to give it a try. I am happy to say it is great! We got here around 6:15 on a Wednesday evening, the place was already packed but they were able to seat us in about 15 minutes. The staff was attentive, polite, informative (which is remarkable given they just opened recently). Things are running smoothly. All good with the service. But that's not really why you pick a place - it's about the food! Which I am happy to report was delicious. We had two different kinds of wings (hot, spicy and sweet), a Madrona burger, bangers and mash, shepherds pie, gyros, and assorted beers and ciders. Clean plates all around! Everything was fresh, perfectly cooked to order, and yummy! Food came out in a normal amount of time and was delicious. Great beer selection too! The atmosphere is kind of dark wood and stone, with soccer on tv, and although it is packed it doesn't feel crowded or frantic. Laid back, comfortable, smells good! There are some families in here but it doesn't feel chaotic or crazy with kids running around or anything. It's just right! Spacious and chill. It's not cheap but not over-priced either. My review is based on 5 visits over a period of about a month. I was really curious to see how this space had been renovated after the departure of the regrettable Madrona Eatery and Alehouse. Perhaps the kitchen just carries bad energy or evil spirits. Who knows? It is not often that I will pillory a place that has such excellent service, but the food is just so depressing. Here is my experience. Tacos Hands down the blandest, soggiest tacos I have ever eaten. Unseasoned and apparently poached fish (Tilapia?) and shrimp on top of wet lettuce, topped with watery pico de gallo, cold cheddar cheese and sour cream. Barely warmed grocery-store tortillas disintegrating into a slippery mess in the flavorless slop. If it weren't for the clumps of unmelted cheddar, you could suck these through a fat straw. Also, three bucks!? Each!!!? Caesar salad The Caesar salad was not terrible. If the kitchen could learn how to tear greens instead of chopping them into 1/2" dice and how to dry the greens before dressing them, the Caesar could be pretty decent. As it was there was no point in serving the salad with a wedge of lemon as it was not going to be capable of bearing any additional moisture. House made dressing could improve things here, too, though at least the dressing has some actual anchovy flavor, so it could be worse. The croutons and cheese are nothing to write home about, but they generally exceed the standards of the establishment, so there's no point commenting on them further. Calamari 10 bucks for a tiny portion (maybe 6oz?) of pre-breaded, frozen calamari from a bag off the back of a food service truck left me feeling violated. Strangely, the calamari was perfectly cooked, proving that someone in the kitchen is doing their level best to make the best of a bad situation. The dipping sauces were terrible (ranch? seriously? with calamari?) Also, there were no tentacles, which invites suspicion of the origin of the 'calamari.' Pulled pork sliders Bleak. Typical Seattle 'pulled pork.' For some reason, the simple art of cooking a pork shoulder properly has evaded this region's restaurants and Madrona Arms is no exception. In fact, they may be the vanguard in desiccating pork and drowning it in cheap, tomato based bbq sauce as an unwelcome apology. These are, hands down, the worst 'pulled pork' sliders I have ever eaten. Even the buns are awful, gummy little blobs of cold disappointment. If you are still not seeking help for clinical depression after eating these, there is the coleslaw, which is the epitome of flavorless and textureless salads sold in gallon tubs or cartons by FSA and Kraft all over our great country. The pickle spear was the highlight of this otherwise unforgivable dish. Burger The burger was not as disappointing as the rest of the menu, but it was far from perfect. Let me first address the problem of the dishonest advertising. The menu reads, "Hand formed and seasoned ground beef piled high with cheddar cheese, avocado, bacon and mayo ." No avocado, no mayo, definitely no 'piled high.' Another reviewer noted the inaccurate description of a soup served in a bread bowl, which wasn't (not that the absence of dated, pretentious presentation is a bad thing...) which indicated that the sloppily written, over-promising and inaccurate menu does not appear to be an accident. It's also worth pointing out that stating that the burger was 'seasoned' on the menu is tedious wordiness, but adds to the face palm when it turns out that it was not, in fact, seasoned at all. The bun was a bit of a disappointment, though not as gluey as the buns used to entomb the aforementioned pulled pork. The fries are obviously a pre-processed 'food product' and breaded with some sort of space-age coating that keeps them crispy even long after they are cold. Regrettably, this has become a fad in the cheap pub food industry, but for $13 I'd like to have some real fries with my burger. Besides, why not serve fresh fries when you have a staff able and willing to actually serve them hot? The quality of the staff is excellent. Universally professional and polite, they are out of place in this faux-Irish establishment. The stiff upper lip in the face of unmitigated disaster leaves you feeling that this is an English pub instead.The ultimate verdict is that nothing here is likely to give you food poisoning and if you were stopping for food on a road trip somewhere in the midwest, you might be happy to pay as much as 35% of the asking price for this food, assuming that nothing else was available. As it is, the food is an embarrassment for even a fake Irish pub in any major city in the world and the prices are beyond insulting. Also, their tap list sucks. read more

Godawful. The food is terrible and the service is worse. I did not think it could get any lower than The Madrona Ale House but Madrona Arms has managed it. The Reuben (which was recommended(!) came with no sauerkraut and next to no dressing. The french fries have some weird coating on them. The Burger, "the most popular thing on the menu", was completely uninspired. Overcooked (even though it was ordered medium rare) it came with a sad looking slice of tomato and limp piece of iceburg lettuce. Obviously, they are hoping you will get so bombed on wide selection of beers that you won't be aware of the kind of barf they have thrown down in front of you. You've been warned. read more
