Just wanted to give a thanks and shout-out to the patrons and bartenders here! I stumbled in last Sunday because I wanted to find a bar where I could watch an early game while my kids were in religion school. No idea this was a gay bar! I was the only female there and totally ignorant of that fact for about an hour. Bartenders were very nice and welcoming and the patrons didn't look at me like I was out of my god damn mind. Why is Madison Pub so great? Easy, because it is what it is. Not trying to be anything else. You go in, its relaxed, you can play pool, play darts, watch the game on tv or actually have a conversation with a guy. Is it fun? Yea! I went to the madison again on a not so busy night, a Sunday. Certainly a better experience when it's not so crowded that there's a line. But they seem to have adopted the common gay bar practice of over charging for drinks, and hoping the tipsy customer doesn't notice when they cash out their tab. They have one of those new automated register systems, so it's hard to believe this is a simple error, and not policy. read more

Of all the gay sports bars I've ever visited, this one's the best. A nice selection of COLD - there are minute slivers of ice in it as soon as it's poured - beers on tap, served by friendly barkeeps. A no-attitude staff, who gladly and quickly accommodated by request to put a game on some of many TVs throughout the bar. Nice spaces for talking, hanging, cruising, whatever! And friendly patrons, too, who made a habit of introducing me around. Highest recommendation! read more

As a straight dude hanging out here, it was pretty mellow and relaxed. I liked the dive bar feel. Everyone was talkative and friendly. Good vibes. Watch your wallet; their policy is to overcharge and hope you don't notice. Furthermore, I've also left with the correct charge on my card only to find out their bookkeeper added a couple bucks to my card after the fact, which I saw when my credit card statement was published. Um, not cool Roland. OK otherwise, except some of the staff. Todd and Jabriel are great. Mick and Marcus need to learn how to treat people with at least a little respect. Fortunately, the other little creep who acted just like Mick and Marcus is now gone. That would be Colton. None of the three is that hot to justify the degree of attitude oozing from them. In fact, hotness at any level should have nothing to do with it, but you definitely get the idea that these two think they're just too cool to be bothered with the ordinary rift-raft. Little do they realize how very uncool they themselves really are. Roland and Frank - you need some new and better attitude behind the bar. Word is out, people are starting to stay away. read more

This place is billed as Seattle's one gay sports bar. Take that with a fist full of salt that would shove you-know-where. What respectable sports bar has a delightful and seasonal selection of local red and white wines? What respectable sports bar has only two plasma TVs; one of which is on the Food Channel, the other on QVC? What respectable sports bar doesn't allow people to play music on its juke box that isn't produced, written, and sung by some privileged teenage girl's wailings, like Kee$a or Lady Gaga? (And if you feel like you want you argue on the finer points of that assertion, then you are honestly, and perhaps innocently, deceived by its overreaching pretensions.) Avoid this place if you seek a good, authentic sports bar. Go down into Pioneer Square where there are so many offers of gay nights for any Seahawks', Sounders', or Mariners' games. read more

A gay bar that I actually like?... I didn't think it would be possible. It has a really relaxed atmosphere and you can actually sit down and have a conversation. My favorite part is watching gay boys doing straight boy things - like, playing pool for instance. On some nights, however, they leave all the peanut shells on the ground which does add character, but I unfortunately didn't realize they were there until I found out the hard way... Looking to have a few drinks before a gig at Chop Suey near by, I happened onto this bar and I am so glad I did. There are a few other gay bar options within a few feet that somehow felt intimidating to me and I like a more relaxed, dive bar atmosphere. Madison Pub is that place. It's not quite a dive as it's fairly big, has pool tables, tons of tvs, a jukebox, darts, you name it.. this bar has everything without all the pretentiousness and drama. I'm more of a chill by myself type guy and the other guys here were super cool and welcoming and I felt at home on the other side of the country. Some bars hate outsiders or non regulars but that certainly wasn't the case here. The drinks were strong and the bartenders were quick.. I hope to be back in the future. read more

If you want a bar that feels like Cheers for Gay Guys this is it. No pretentiousness here. Friendly bar tenders, good strong drinks. Nothing fancy, but its not meant to be. Darts and Pool and unlike some bars you can actually strike up a conversation with people you don't know. Busy on the weekend, but really low key on the weekdays. I don't like sports so I avoid it on football game nights but if you are looking for a gay bar that does sports events this is the place to go. read more

My partner and I went here for the first time the other night to have a beer and get away from the "nitty-gritty" part of the hill (i.e Pike/Pine/Broadway ect...). It was a good alternative to our usual spots. The bar is big enough where we were able to have our own quiet sit down area and not be in the way of other patrons who were playing pool or goofing around. It was fun, had great music and really friendly bar service. Although we were the only women in there, it was still fun and definitely an upgrade from The Wild Rose/every other gay bar on Capitol Hill. We really liked this spot and will definitely return. read more

I love this club. There's so many cute guys who come here, but the crowd can also tend to be 'older' on some evenings. I especially love most of the very cute, and charming bartenders. Joey is my favorite [he's such a nerdy stud] hehe. The lighting is nice, because unlike most gay clubs you can tell if the guy you're talking to is actually attractive or not. OK this is one of those joints that you love, hate or love to hate. It's a gay bar where all are welcome and presumptions and hair product are thrown to the wind (for the most part). No fancy decor, peanut shells on the floor, tv's everywhere playing god-knows-what, darts, pool tables, pinball machines and nice stiff drinks. The major complaint, and I have to agree, is the silly line outside on the weekends. The story goes that they got into trouble with the fire authorities and are now being overly cautious, following the occupancy limit to the digit. I have to assume this is true because they could make a few extra pennies letting a few extra freezing souls inside to the "half-full" bar. The typical crowd is older and more low key than some of the more lively spots on the hill but for many of us it's a very nice and welcomed escape. I suggest you never go here. The bartender working January 1, short white guy was absolutely vile. When he reads this he will know exactly who I am. Came in with 4 friends, I told him what type of beer I like and asked what type of bottle beer he has. The guy was just rude. Literally he said if you don't know what you want to drink I can't help you. I again ask what type of bottled beers because there wasn't any shown at the area we stood at. He responds I can't serve you if you don't know what you want. I stood back and said fine no worries and went with my friends to sit down. 2 friends remained to pay and he continued to be an asshole about me asking him what type of bottles beers they have. We all left within 20 mins , my friends leaving their drinks behind. Not worth being in a place with a jerk like that working there. Hope he reads this or his manager. My suggestion is get another job if you can't perform your job. You are a bartender - it's your job to know and let the consumer what you have read more

Joey's who is been here for 20 years as an amazing bartender is one of the best people you could ever meet. whether it's a Sounders game a Seahawks game a Mariners game there will always be a supportive crowd to cheer on the local Seattle sporting community. during Seahawks season there are raffles free corn dogs and free peanuts to shell on the floor. take a selfie at the box which will be posted online or just play your favorite song. with pool tables and two dart boards this venue offers a wide variety of entertaining opportunities. What a surprise to find a gay bar that actually has zero attitude, perfectly made drinks, and one of the friendliest staffs I've encountered. Jeff & Jabriel made us feel right at home. Well this would be what one would call a gay sports bar. Pool tables, darts and lots of beer signs. As to the patrons it tends to be just normal men not the hotties but everday guys from young to old. I would guess the average age would be somewhere in the mid 30's. This place has more patrons then most at odd hours which is nice for I hate going into a bar and there only be 4 people in it. One person said that it was full of cliques and no one talked to them. Well it is Seattle and this has been our reputation for years, and one just has to move on for this is part of the cool drizzle, caffeine fueled. book touting Seattle culture that stays indoors from late October to late April. i live in california but grew up in boston and happen to be visiting seattle. So i went into the Men's Room last night and asked where i could watch the celtics kick the Lakers ass, and the bartender directed me to the madison pub. The unbearably cute bartender mixed me up something wicked and sweet and pink and i proceeded to get absorbed by the celtic scintillating plays. At half-time i joked to the bartender that he should work at the gay bar up the road cuz he is cute and would get great tips there. he gave me a look of confusion and said "this IS a gay bar, sweetheart. The men's room is just they GAY bar, we're the gay neighborhood sports bar." Which prompted me to look around and notice i was one of two women in the place. The celtics won, just one drink was sufficient to get me pleasantly squiffed and the guy next to me ranted on and on about how he wanted to suck ray allen's cock. everyone was really friendly and i never had to wait in line to use the bathroom. the drinks were over-priced, but at least they were hell of strong. read more

I've seen it described elsewhere as a "...gay-friendly bar..." which I think misstates what this place is. The Madison Pub is a GAY BAR. It is a gay bar which is welcoming all who support the LGBTQ communities, most assuredly, as it should be and in my experience as a patron there for nearly 25 years, as it always has been. I would say that The Madison Pub is one of the few truly gay bars left in what is becoming a very homogenized bar/club/pub/drinking establishment market place, and I for one am very happy about their holding onto that identity and helping to foster a continued zeitgeist of "gay community" which will ultimately fade into the past. The place has history and has seen changes over the years, yet it is a legacy both in terms of the staff and patrons. I am pleased that this place has been able to change with the times and not only remain popular but probably becoming even more so, and still firmly hold onto its gay identity. read more

I've lived in the neighborhood for 12 years within 10 blocks of this bar, popping by occasionally for a drink or a game of pool. The bartenders have always been really nice and the drinks tasty and strong. However, today, I was really excited to have shown up for the Seahawks game 2 hours early to find a spot for my 5 friends and I. Upon going outside in the first quarter to grab our last 3 friends and give one of them a Seahawks t-shirt I had in the car, I didn't think anything of it. But when I came back 2 minutes later (with a tab of 3 hours open and 3 chairs waiting for us inside), the door guy told me I had to wait in a line of about 20 people who weren't going to be allowed in until other people left. I was now missing the game and my pitcher of beer was getting warm. This is not how you treat a good customer who has been at your bar for 3 hours with an open flowing tab while a game is going on which that customer went specifically to your bar to watch. As a result, I and my 5 friends will never be going back to the Madison Pub to spend our alcohol-allotted dollars or to watch a football game. And the manager didn't fix the situation either. I am a straight girl who is in love with the Madison Pub. My husband's Father is gay and this is his Pub. Table 5 bitches!! How funny is it that I was not a Football fan until we started going to the Madison? I learned everything I know about football from a bar filled with gay men. We come here because it's not a meat market. It's like the Cheer's of the gay world. Everyone knows each other, and each person who is a regular here makes the Madison interesting in their own way. It's not a bar you would go to if you're looking for a one night stand. The Cuff is down the street if that's all you want. Instead the Madison is here for getting together with friends, watching the Seahawks, sharing a drunken conversation, and laughing so hard at the gay drama you'll cry. Not sure why some people don't seem to get this place. It is just a great neighborhood pub. Like many pubs, there is sports on tv and other things to occupy your time like pinball, pool, darts, and trivia. Just a nice place to get a drink and talk. A great cross-section of people, but not much of the stand and model twink crowd. People tend to be friendly, including the staff.
