Ahh, what can I say about this place, I thoroughly enjoyed bringing my besties here when they visited Seattle from San Francisco and LA. I loved that they didn't have a cover, and the vibes were so fun!! Sadly, we only got to belt out a few songs before they closed the karaoke, but it was a Sunday, so we totally got it, they close early. There were some singers in here that sounded hella professional, like they literally should be recording artists (or maybe they are in their free time?). The talent, the heavy pour drinks (for the price), and the friends you can make here were so awesome. I stopped by Cuff Complex around 10 PM on a weekend, and it definitely lives up to its reputation as one of Capitol Hill's signature gay bars. The vibe is dark, loud, and packed--lots of energy, fog machines running nonstop, and music blasting. As someone who isn't much of a bar person, I'll admit it felt a little intimidating at first, but once I settled in, I managed to enjoy the atmosphere. The crowd was lively but not messy, which I appreciated since I've heard nights here can get wild. Drinks are fairly priced for the area--not cheap, but not unreasonable either. What did disappoint me, though, was the service at the bar. The bartenders came off rushed and pretty rude. I get that it was peak weekend hours and the place was slammed, but a little friendliness or a welcoming tone would go a long way. I want to give 1 star because I felt profiled and insulted during my visit on 7/10/2026. The Cuff used to feel like home to me. That night, the go-go dancer (white guy) came down while my friend and I were dancing near the DJ booth, right where he was dancing. He accused us of following and staring at him, saying he felt uncomfortable, even though we didn't know him and were just there to enjoy the DJ. When I raised it with security, they sided with the dancer and made us feel like we'd done something wrong. Their staff were rude and judgmental all the time. This is how they treat if you're not white! I've been coming here for almost two years and never had an experience like this. Worst visit ever!! I know writing here doesn't matter, because the owner and management aren't doing anything. They don't even care that a sexual assault happened between coworkers recently. Over the years The Cuff has been a mainstay within the Seattle community. Longstanding patrons and newcomers alike have enjoyed the safe space that Cuff provides. Recently (within the last year) a lot of very positive changes have been made at The Cuff to make it even more enjoyable. Some of this is personnel (Joon is an amazing, friendly, and focused GM), some of this is policy (thank you Seattle for updating its liquor control board policies), and some of this is programming (have you sang at the Karaoke nights or played Loteria yet?). For sure, my greatest compliments go to Joon (aforementioned GM) for putting her heart and soul into creating an updated and contemporary space for all communities. She's tough, she's a shrewd business woman, but she's also super approachable and willing to listen to new ideas. And, she's friendly and always happy to say hello. Eric at the front door -- equally nice, focused on keeping people safe, no bullshit, but friendly and kind to anyone who merits it. (He's also super cute.) The music is usually great (personal preference here only -- some DJs aren't my style) and there is plenty of variety to please any taste. The patio is a destination for summer evenings on Sundays, dancing on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights is always fun. Yeah, sure, it can be crowded at times but hey, that's just because it's a space where people want to hang out. I want to like this place and I've come in many times now (not many gay bars in Seattle in general), but it just hasn't grown on me. It's very dirty, dark and dingy. Definitely needs an update along with some better DJ's. The music is awful and old as hell. Idk, I wish it was better. There's nowhere else to go sadly. It's good to start the night there but I'm not paying that ridiculous cover to hang out later, if I decide to leave and come back. Bartenders are hit or miss. There are less than a million people in the city; so I don't understand charging for patronage when you're barely even a blip on the tourism radar. Second, the drinks were a bit expensive to be so mediocre; and my limes were no joke rotten: I saw the marketplace prices for fruit. There's no excuse. HOWEVER, the music was great to dance to. Was a tad difficult searching for a watering hole that was open due to covid. A waiter at another establishment that owns this bar told us to go to it as it just opened Friday. Big signage that stated the hours and happy hour everyday. We waited for approximately 15 min at the bar and was just ignored. I've been coming to Cuff for over 15 years. Cuff was known as a Levi's and Leather bar with a bit of an edge. Unfortunately it was sold in the summer of 2021. The new owners don't seem to be interested or understand what the Cuff's brand was and the importance of this space in Seattle. Today, the Cuff is a bad dance club that looks like a leather bar. Based on my recent experiences, its also no longer a safe space for gay men due to the sheer number of straight women coming in to watch the gays like they would go to the zoo (read the reviews by straight women here on Yelp! for examples). Its really sad, but unless the new owners reverse course I'm likely never going to come to the Cuff again. Its a huge loss to not have a true edgy leather bar in Seattle but that appears to be what the new owners want. Lastly due to the changes described above, multiple LGBTQ organizations no longer feel welcome using the venue and have begun new affiliations with other bars for their club events. I went to Cuff for the first time after hearing absolutely nothing but rave reviews. It is currently 5pm on Sunday October 8th and I felt I had to leave this place. I sashayed in (as I do) had a great conversation with the security guard and bartender. I was impressed with the place and had questions. I ordered a cocktail and went to explore the bar. I come back and the bartender says he doesn't feel comfortable serving me. He had started making the drink then refused me. As a business owner I like for other business owners to be made aware of when they have low vibrational people hurting their business reputation. As a licensed bartender (podcast host - retailer - Air Force Veteran - among other things) myself I know that some bartenders just like to feel like they have power over people just because they feel so inferior and just because they can. I did nothing wrong. I did not stumble in. I also did not slur my speech. The DJ + security guard (who would not have let me in if I was wasted) can vouch for this. For the first time EVER in my whole life, I got bounced by the bouncer at this Gay club here in Seattle. It was really strange, I do not like being treated like this, I think that they must have overzealous security now. I went to the club fairly early in the evening. The music was good, so I danced hard but then it suddenly got dangerously crowded. I felt overwhelmed and I had to escape. I went to my car, cooled down, and changed shirts. I thought that I would try again, make the most of the cover charge (I had a wrist band for reentry). But the bouncer said, "We think that you are too drunk," which was not true because I didn't order ANY drinks, not even beer. I was too busy dancing. And then he said, "We also have reports that you were being violent and trying to hit the wall" which is also not true. I was flabbergasted. Finally, a security manager came over and cleared me for reentry, but he also warned me about bad behavior, which was very strange and off-putting. I am a peaceable person! You know, Peace, Love, Unity, Respect (PLUR) like back in the rave days. This particular night club in Seattle (Capitol Hill) has a large downstairs dance floor with a good sound system, I have been here before, but this was a real downer, so I probably won't go back. There are other places that know me, they like the way I dance, and they welcome me with no attitude. Overall a very strange experience when I was just trying to have some fun. Ehhhhh... I went to cuff complex on a Saturday night and honestly? It left a lot to be desired compared to the clubs I'm used to in SoCal. For starters, there was a conspicuous absence of drag queens. I tend to think of drag queens almost as the matron saints of the gay community, and there were none whatsoever here. What does that say about the culture here? Second of all, there weren't any gogo's. For a club this size, I feel like that's a general prerequisite. Does Seattle have some kind of municipal ordinance against gogo dancing? Even at its zenith, around 1:00a, when I left, the club was at like... 60% spatial capacity. I'm used to shoulder-to-shoulder blowouts, and I'm weirded out that one of the biggest clubs in Seattle can't manage that, especially given how many queer people I've seen out in the city. The culture here is definitely different, and it just doesn't seem as much fun as what I've experienced elsewhere. On the bright side, similar to the rest of Seattle, bartenders and coat checks are really nice. Even if I didn't feel quite as entertained, I definitely felt welcomed. read more

I love the fact that I am as preppy as they come (sweater sets and penny loafers for me) and a straight girl, and the gay men of the cuff with their harleys and leather outfits are so accepting of me. Everything is new in the time of COVID, and my first time out in over a year to a 'club', so that being said... there was still a lot left to be desired. The door staffer was friendly, but not terribly communicative about the line, the 30+ minute wait to get in, nor was he at his station enough to explain the in/out to those who didn't realize they were smokers. That also didn't explain the people who walked in when he wasn't there to patrol. The table service was quick, and friendly, and a surprisingly good drink. The staff communicating and enforcing restrictions however, were conspicuously lax. Between patrons inviting people to their table over the 6 person maximum, creating both bottlenecks for traffic and pushing table closer together, to patrons wandering from table to table without masks, there were some safety protocols that were pretty lacking. Overall, I couldn't grasp the 'theme' of the bar: the logo and sparse decor speak to an Eagle-like feel, and the website states a motto of being a "safe space that caters to masculine energy", but not much inside the space actually spoke to that intention. I'd probably check it out again, earlier in the night (due to the 11pm close times during restrictions), but it isn't a standout in the nightlife that I had expected or hoped it to be. read more
