I understand if you have to talk about customers but please go or move to a place where we can't here what you are saying. It's not ok to make people feel uncomfortable or unwanted in the bar. Very cool and comfortable place to grab a drink. I'm not much of a bar person, mainly because they can be so damn cliquey, but I never felt unwelcome here. The clientele here is older which is probably why I didn't feel any of that "I'm better than you" vibe. I liked the music they played which was a mix of rock, alternative, and some dance stuff, much better than the usual club music played at other gay bars which after too long, can end up feeling like a dull drill trying to penetrate my brain. There's also a nice dance floor in the back with a patio for relaxing. Next time I'm in Seattle, I'll surely be back here for a drink. read more

I'm so glad that this place was open, and that they are following the Covid guidelines. Everyone had a mask on when.not seated, and the wait staff behaved correctly. The service was slow, but the wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. They forgot about us. Perhaps they were too busy. I looked at the menu and saw the black bean burger, and probably should have ordered that. Instead I ordered the hamburger, I wasn't expecting "shake shack" or "Red Robin" but I also wasn't expecting to get an upset stomach afterward. In addition, when we asked for water, we were given bottled water. My Diet Coke and my friends drink both tasted diluted or odd. I just hope my upset stomach was from "covid anxiety" and not the actual meat of the hamburger. My friend said the music sounded fine, and the volume was at the perfect amount for talking but I thought that the tone was flat. Also, in other cities (SF and LA) that I've been to leather bars the clientele is usually "sexy" and "friendly". Many of the folks didn't even look gay or a part of the leather scene. Easily one of the unfriendliest places I have been to. From the indifferent door men to the overzealous and rude security, this place left such a bad taste in my mouth. A couple of the bartenders were nice, but the others don't seem to care. It's almost like everyone who works here is miserable. Maybe it's because I'm not from Seattle? This place never fails me. The drinks are good, the music is decent, and the dancing lasts all night. I love how they have an outside patio with a bar to get some air. I love this place! It was one of the first establishments I came to in Seattle and I still go whenever I can. They usually have a cover on the weekends, but there's so much to the place that it makes sense. Pool, darts, a back patio, and a huge dance floor are all part of the fun. I'll agree that it is better to come here after 11pm on the weekends if you want to ensure you'll get the best version of the bar. However, I still feel totally comfortable just coming to hang out with a friend on a weekday too because it is so quiet. It's comfortable and yet still exciting. This time around we came here to line dance and two step to country music and it was fabulously fun on a Friday night!!! The Cuff has a bar area with a pool table and some sort of gambling machines (???) upstairs and downstairs they have a wonderfully large dance floor and wonderful people to go dancing with!!! Cost for alcohol was ridiculously reasonable and staff was very friendly & knew what they were doing!!! Cover was only $5, not bad, if you ask me!!! What a great place to go dancing & not feel like it was a meat market!!!! WAIT... I didn't know they had a patio??? I guess I was having too much fun and didn't notice. My first venture at The Cuff was 10 years ago. There was leather sling in one corner. The dog run had a reputation. There was a strong scent of leather everywhere. Silver daddies in chaps and harness checked me out like they wanted to paddle me for the transgression of dressing inappropriately. A half-naked man stood still at a corner. Slave was written on his chest. An anonymous guy sent me a blow job shot one after another but never revealed himself. I felt dirty, violated, and I secretly loved it. That was then... This year, The Cuff celebrates its 17th year. The dance floor is huge. Local and out-of-state DJs spin on weekends. The dog run connects the main bar to the heated patio. Drinks are still strong and generous. The bartenders still attitude free. It attracts the mature crowd early in the night, then fills up with twinks, muscle marys and a few fruit flies who dance the night away. Not to be missed, The Cuff is still the best place to be when they close the street for Gay Pride. A true and only gay men's dance club left in the city without the attitude from the stand-and-model queens. Let them purr elsewhere please. read more

Here's what I know about Seattle and the gays (and I can say that, being a member). There are many bars that we attend, but when it comes to what type of gay we are, there are really only three types. There's the Neighbors type - young, twinkish, and enjoying popular dance music. There's the R Place type - minority, young to old, and enjoying rap music. Then there's the Cuff type. All over the age spectrum, all over the musical enjoyment spectrum, and not caring if everyone else around is just like them or not. I happen to be a Cuff person. Now, don't get me wrong, this place has its problems. The bathroom by the pool table - fugly mofo's looking at your wang while you pee. The facility itself is pretty heinous on the eyes. And it can get smelly (a product of the attraction of the bears). Also, if you're a girl (biologically born as such), don't expect a warm reception here. This is a gay man's place, not for his hag. But the positives are all over. For one, strong and cheap drinks. A large dance area for those who so choose. A huge back patio. bars all over the place, so it's always easy to get a drink. Generally fun-loving clientele. And, if you happen to have had a drink or five too many, the staff will make sure that you don't fall down, don't drink anymore, will give you water and, most importantly, won't just kick you out (unless you're a dick, but that's for being a dick, not drunk). The staff are generally great, the cover always low, and the people that come here aren't pretentious. Fugly people talk with pretty people, and it's all good. So yeah, it's not the nicest place in the world. But dammit, it's a great place to spend a Friday, Saturday or Sunday evening! Although I'm kinda glad my friend is no longer tending bar because although I appreciate a quardruple shot in a plastic soda glass, they tend to create some remarkable stories that I could likely never live down. I recently popped my gay bar cherry and suggested The Cuff for my girlfriends 30th birthday. In typical girl's night out fashion we prefunked and took forever to get ready. Finally hopping into the cab at 11:00pm. We patiently stood in line with all of the hot gay men and pondered what the evening had in store for us. Let's just say we had an evening full of pictures with no audio. Hence we pieced our night together the following morning over pig cheek hash. Pictures can tell you a realllll story. It looked like we had an absolute blast!!!! Now on to the bar/club. Cover from what I recall was $5.00 not bad. Coat check line took forever and a frickin day. Remember we didn't get there till after 11 so we were wasting valuable drinking time to check our coats. By the way coat check was one buckaroo. Ohhh......Did I mention it's like a male dominatrix bar?!?! I had no idea so imagine my surprise to see men walking around in ass less chaps, and bondage type material with gadgets around their necks, waist, and wrists. Upstairs you have 2 full bars, pool tables, and one bathroom (from what I remember it is the only bathroom in the whole place.) You venture past the naked bartender on your left at the back of the bar and head down stairs to find another bar to your left and a huge dance floor. Lines where long at the first three bars so I was quick to see if there was another bar with a smaller line before my buzz wore off. Through coroner type plastic doors (that's what they remind me of) you find an outdoor patio with yet another bar. Again, sexy men staffing the bar. We drank peach dreams all night "Tim's specialty drink. Tim is the fabulous bartender with big muscles making us our mind erasing concoctions. Drinks were your typical night club prices. Now off to the dance floor. It was packed full of sweaty half naked men, dancing their hearts out to the best mix of house, top 40, and everything else. We danced all night surrounded by these half naked men. Just so you know I am not boy crazy. I have a boyfriend but this was my first time in a gay bar so I was taken back by the vast variety and supply of men. Being 3 of the maybe 10 ladies there we got all the attention. What woman doesn't love men fighting over them for a dance partner. We even had a dance off to see who got to dance with who. Ohh yes we did! Upon closing our feet where battered by all the dancing and drunken stumbling so we settled outside on the patio to take in a few "I only smoke when I drink" ciggs. I met new friends, exchanged numbers, and had from what I can remember the time of my life. If only I had discovered places like this earlier in my 20's. read more

My boyfriend and I were looking to reconnect with "the tribe" one Saturday night and decided to give The Cuff a shot. Bit of a levis 'n leather scene? Sure, but don't let that lead you to think it's a "Leather" bar. We're both small young-and-fit types, neither really into leather, but there's something pleasantly disarming about The Cuff's patrons -- which is as mixed of a crowd as others have suggested -- and who says Leathermen can't be Gentlemen? As a place to go dancing on the weekend (and that's what we went for), we've been to R Place, Neighbors, and The Cuff, and when looking for some place less trendy or less, well, queeny/teen-y (respectively), we'd try The Cuff for sure. Let's get one thing straight about drinks at the Cuff. They are stong. They don't fuck around. You order a drink, then you'd better be able to handle the business like it's your job, understand? Good. I love the Cuff. Good dancing on weekends, a fun place to go with fun, (mainly)friendly patrons, and did I mention, the strong drinks. I like that there's an outdoor bar/patio where you can cool off after dancing, and I like how welcoming people are. There aren't as many ladies here as, say, at Neighbors, but whenever I go the gents are sweet as pie. I had higher hopes for this bar/club. The gentleman at the front who checked your ID was very abrupt and cold. I didn't feel welcomed the moment I entered the building. Also the one bartender was brash and seemed to have an apathetic attitude; Not a very warm environment. They had a slideshow of cheesy nude male models on multiple monitors and I think it took away from the experience. I've been here twice and I don't really find this place interesting. Is this establishment a dance club, is it a dive bar, is it a gay bar? I will attempt to figure out in this review. I went on a Friday night and they had square dancing until 9:00PM. Although there was a large crowd, it wasn't large enough for my liking. Not everyone wants to square dance on a Friday night, they could increase their crowd by having the whole Friday dedicated to dance music. Why not change square dancing to Tuesday or Monday night? I would have prefer dance music as soon as I walk in the door and the lights a little dimmer. I felt it was two businesses in one. The front part is a dive bar, and the back is a dance floor. The split layout doesn't help the overall experience. I would rather see a full dive bar or a full dance floor. I think they are shooting themselves on the foot by having square dancing on Friday night; it narrows down their crowd from what I saw. If you want dance/pop/techno music, you won't find it on Friday. The square dancing also brings in women, in case you were hoping for a strictly gay crowd. Aside from the square dancing there was also a "pup group" who wear puppies masks. There's also people who just go to the dive bar and drink. The dive bar has two pinball machines, two dart targets, 1 pool table, and scattered seating. read more

as an out of towner who frequents seattle's gay scene, I find the cuff right on the mark. Mixed crowd, giant venue, great outdoor patio, and fun staff. I also love the guy in the corset style side tie shorts with crazy gymnast style tank top--if you frequent the cuff, you know who I mean. The attitude of the clientele is pretty approachable for the most part----which I don't see at other seattle gay spots---which kind of baffles me, um you are in seattle...drop the attitude. Like a lot of Seattle nightclubs, you just wind up apathetically "settling" for what little there is. The Cuff is no exception. Dirty, dank, dark and full to the brim with "average" and "below average" anything and everything (from decor to people), the Cuff is Seattle's legacy, big, go-to and wind-up-at gay "club"/bar. It's sort of leather and Levis, but not really, and it's sort of pretty boy and dance club, but not really, and it's sort of working class, but not really, and it's sort of bear, but not really, and it's sort of karaoke, but not really. It's neither here nor there in what it is and what it wants to be, making it just one big, dirty, crappy, de-facto, po-dunk whore of a romper room for Seattle's lackluster gay scene. Sundays can be sort of fun, because they play Disco in the back room from 6:00pm on, with a few true old school folks here and there who really knew and know club life (real club life, which doesn't exist in Seattle). But even then, you usually just wind up complacently settling to the tune of junk mainstream Disco, with true underground real-essence-of-the-era club classics far and few between. The sad thing is that the DJ seems to be cornered/forced into playing that way too. Unfortunately it is one of the better dance/club places (if not the only one besides Neighbors) on Capitol hill, making it an option... not because it's good, but, again, because there honestly are no other club options. The Capitol Hill area continues to be a breath of fresh air for Steven and myself! From the state we last lived in we were definitely short of gay. It may even be standard that gay bars and dance clubs here on the west coast are relatively large and sometimes have two stories. In the big cities anyway. The Cuff Complex is no exception. The place is large(compared to small town standards anyway) and has lots of elbow room. In the first room there are pool tables and a nice large bar! Downstairs is another bar and a good sized dance floor. Like most gay clubs the best time to come to Cuffs is on Fridays or Saturdays or anytime there is a special event. Not to be confused with nights where they play a specific kind of music but actual events. We have been here twice now. We went on a Friday night and it was ok. It was not too busy so there was not a lot of people watching to do but we were here very early which explains the small turnout at the time. The second time we were here Steven wanted to go here on a leather night. It was bustling much more and was much more fun. It helped coming in later as well! On this night I met my first sister from the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence drag group and that was lots of fun! So nice and friendly! Cuffs is a dance club we can see ourselves going back to. It is lots of fun and gives the gay and dance deprived a healthy dose of what they are needing! Historical Note: Today is June 26, 2013. The day when the United States Supreme Court struck down DOMA! I frequent this place because of the bar staff and the people I've come to know here. I glad to know if there's something up, I can come up to security and have it taken care of. I enjoy the fact that if I don't feel like dancing, I can get away from the music and there are places to go where I can socialize. The music is great and the DJ's are great, from DJ Almond Brown, DJ Matt Stands and DJ Stacy (sp?). It is true that they pour a stiff drink compared to some of the other bars in the area; the price is justifiable. And, I will mention again that the bar staff is a hoot! I've never gotten attitude from any of them. The only attitude has been from a**hole's who lack any sort of tact. I see people bitching about falling in line for the bars and how the bar staff enforces it. Really? They bitch because they're putting things into order? I don't know about ye who appreciates chaos, but I get pissed at other bars when someone cuts in front of me while I'm patiently waiting to step up to the bar to get a drink. Of course, you will get dirty looks. In fact you deserved it! "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" didn't register when you see people lined up at the bar. Either you're not very observant, or just arrogant enough to give a try and see if anyone notices, which the people you've snubbed AND the bartender will, sweetie. Oh, and by the way, when I first started coming to this bar, I knew next to no one, but only by actually being out going and coming up to people with something to say, have I garnered friends. An informal, friendly venue for drinks and dancing. Don't be confused by the name or past reputation - this is not a gay bar filled with the leather "old guard". Although the crowd is mostly gay male, no one seems offended by (or to even notice) straight males or the rare females (of any sexual preference). They call it the Cuff "Complex" for a reason - it's actually at least three venues in one. One enters into the main bar, a moderately crowded informal (slightly dive-y) space with friendly bartenders and good basic drinks (don't expect anything real fancy - beer is your best bet - there are better venues not far away on The Hill if you want a lounge-y experience). There is a (blissfully heated) patio bar, which was almost empty the cold winter night I visited - a nice retreat from the main event - the raucous dance floor, where no one has ever heard that disco died. It's crowded, lots of leather boys and bears. Fun for all. read more

Caveat: I was recently dumped and am playing "My Heart Will Go On" on repeat. An errant thought sends me into tears, and I was looking to get away from all that. And I came to the right place. The Cuff Complex is very gay and very accepting, which is something I like about the bear community in general. Though the front may seem foreboding, I went in with a bunch of gender-bending bears in drag and felt at home immediately. They reminded me of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, and may have been members of the Seattle branch. One of them had a rubber chicken purse, which is right on so many levels. I am not a bear, nor am I into leather (I am, however, into bears), but this place had a good mix of people and the atmosphere was laid back, friendly, and most importantly, inclusive. The bar served up cheap drinks (with one free refill!) and was surrounded by a pool table, darts and groups of men chatting it up with one another. When they called it a complex, they meant it. There is a nice outdoor area that wasn't getting too much use and a giant dance floor in the basement with a DJ spinning for anyone who wanted to get their groove on. There were sweaty men with their shirts off dancing to beats only they could hear, and I followed Agnetha from ABBA's advice and Danced My Pain Away. I left a little while later by myself, and though I ended the night singing and crying to I'll Never Love This Way Again in my car on my way back to Eastside, The Cuff Complex took me away from that for a good part of the evening and that's something I am grateful for. I know where I'll be going with friends if I end up back in the area. read more

Just checked this place out last weekend visiting from out of town. I like the Bear set, Levis n Leather after that and this bar did both pretty well. I found the patrons quite friendly as well as the staff. Had no problem getting right into the mix with some hot locals who i hope to get to know better next time I'm up there. I also got hooked up with some suprestrong drinks for me and my friends. That led to some good times afterwards ;) The dance floor was packed both nights and the music was jumpin even though dancin is not my thing; definitely appreciate the crowd mix though and that non-bears n leather guys kick it too. I came to Cuff's from Cece's earlier in the night and enjoyed each venue equally. Where I'm from I typically kick it at one place, so it was nice to find two places that tickled my fancy to walk back and forth. I'm pretty upset about this place. I went with my gay bestie and my girlfriend. We were expecting lots more gay men than lesbian women. This was absolutely the case; however, my girlfriend and I felt extremely discriminated against simply because we are women. It didn't matter that we belonged to the "gay community" and were spending money in the cover charge and drinks... the bar tenders wanted nothing to do with us when we tried to order drinks without our gay, male friend. The Cuff used to be a Levi-Leather gay bar. It's turned into a "catch-all" and not really a gay bar anymore. I don't like going, but I get dragged here too often. I like to dance, but not when rude people get on the dance floor and don't know or don't care that there are other people on the dance floor! Yeah, it's a bear/leather bar, but the crowd on the weekends is pretty mixed. It's often the second stop for boys from Purr, which is just two blocks away. So you have the leather guys in assless chaps and harnesses, the pretty boys in tight stretchy vnecks, twinks and daddies and everything else in between, including the regular-joe gays. It's definitely a complex - front bar, back dance floor, and a HUGE outdoor patio, which has been an awesome place to socialize and stir up some good old fashioned gay drama. The entire place smells musty as hell, but bartenders are pretty nice, drinks decent. Can't complain in that respect. Above all, though, I think it's the best gay club for dancing - music's good, dance space is more than adequate - enough to bust a move without stepping on anyone else's feet. read more

Your drinks are good with moderate prices, the beer pitcher being the best thing u ever invented. Scary older men who pinch, poke, or straight up grab my junk - not okay. Grinding up on me or staring me down on the dance floor - also not okay. Playing waaaay too much house music... still not okay. Let me start this off with saying that I am a straight female, probably the only one in the bar that night. I went for karaoke and had the best freaking time ever. The bartenders were better than most bars, very friendly, attentive and the one at the back bar just really went above and beyond to take care of his customers. I was treated very well, despite being the demographic clientele. The karaoke was so friendly and the the KJ was just the best.Everyone there was just so supportive that we all came away with a sense of accomplishment and pride. Yes, there are some pictures of naked men, but really nothing to really complain about. I saw nothing really pornographic. It's a men's bar, you may see a picture of a naked man. The private toilets, good for girls, are kind of hard to find but if you ask someone they will be VERY happy to show them to you. read more

Now I've been going to the cuff since 99. I know alot of people there. The security and staff are friendly but if they think you too tipsy they'll ask you to leave. Which is ok. But last time my partner and I went he had the flu and it was on my birthday they threw us out because he got sick not from drinking but from actually being sick. I was going to the cuff before I turned 21 well actually I was 19.. lol they have become more strict so it's not happening I wouldn't think anymore. The guys are bear types or pretty boys mixed with some redneck. There is attitude sometimes there but I've always loved this place the dance floor is fun the different levels and the bartenders I've known for years are still some of the best around.
