First of all, this restaurant is stunning. Although not very big, the layout and decor is chic and alluring. Think the word that comes to mind when you're here is Mysterious? My husband thought the whole place felt affectatious. The place seeks to have this nightclub-lounge-speakeasy vibe with its super-dark lighting (almost black!). It took a good 15 minutes for my eyes to adjust to the dark lighting. I have terrible night vision...and initially I could barely see. It was stylish and sexy, but definitely not comfortable. Like a nightclub, there's even a coat check station. The overhead music was very cool...progressive, metro chic and loungy. Whatever you'd call that music genre now lol! It was cranked up a bit loud...and I think it weighed on my husband, who doesn't love this genre of music like I do. The place was obviously a magnet for a ton of pretty, young people of Aspen. I was just glad that my husband was facing me, seated away from the room, which was filled with a ton of hot, single ladies lol! The pricing was completely outlandish...to be expected of Aspen. We ordered several items off the menu to share...White Fish Tempura, Shrimp Tempura, Smoked Kurobuta Ribs, Spicy Salmon Roll and Ube Waffle. For drinks, I got this Chai cocktail...and I think my husband got the Sake? All items were delicious...but in a way, I thought they could have been better. Also, they should have cranked up the presentation more...considering its price points. I just felt that the foods could have looked as expensive as they were priced. Guess if I HAD to choose, I liked the Ribs and the Ube Waffle the most. The service was good...but somehow, a bit inconsistent at times. Overall, I was impressed with the decor and the vibe much more than the foods (again, quite underwhelming in presentation...especially for the price points). Tried to come here after a concert as there was a line. No one informed us it was a private party despite talking to the man and woman at the front of the line multiple times. Food: Awful. This restaurant felt like a place that copied a sushi restaurant. Fish was not fresh - smelled. The sauces were unbalanced for many dishes. The wagyu dumplings tasted as if someone dumped cinnamon. Service: It was NYE. I get it - the restaurant is busy. However, after booking my table for 1 month in advance to celebrate an anniversary, they placed my husband and I on a high top by the entrance of the restaurant. We didn't want to sit there. Frankly, it was a horrible seat. The hostess was incredibly rude about it when we inquired about being seated elsewhere. The manager found a way to accommodate us in the main dining room, but I was shocked by the service. The waiters were very pleasant, however, so nothing against the wait staff. The food then came out at all different times. Our waiter was trying his best but he had so many tables. All the waiters were very nice but the wait times were terrible. We made a reservation for 10-people with a month in anticipation, we specifically asked for a table at the main dining room. The day before our reservation we called again to ensure we were seated in the main dining room. They once again assured us that we were seated in the main dining room. In the past they sat us behind the bar and the experience and service was terrible. When we arrived at the restaurant they immediately started escorting us to the same seats, behind the bar in a high top table. When I told the hostess we repeatedly asked for a table at the main dining room not the bar, she quickly responded that was part of the main dining room. It's CLEARLY behind the bar and NOT part of the main dining room. At the end of the dinner, they had a terrible time finding our jackets at the coat check, my daughters battery died, where we had the claim ticket and when the coat check hostess told us to charge her phone behind the front desk. When I proceeded to plug in her phone to retrieve the coats, the hostess (MADISON) went ballistic and started cursing at me using profane language - she told me to get the f@ck out of here!! Awful experience. I don't even know where to start. My husband and I were excited to try this place and we wish we never went. The service was bad and the food was terrible. The staff were rude and very pompous. We had to send back my appetizer and my husband's dinner as they completely messed up the order. We know Aspen is expensive as we come here every winter but to justify paying for this overpriced awful food should be a crime. We ask for the GM to come over but they sent over some short guy with long hair who said he was a VIP host or something not the GM!!! We could smell booze on his breath and he was slurring his words. We were beyond shocked on how messed up he was and he didn't even apologize for our awful experience. He was so out of it. Who knows what else he was on. We had to send them away multiple times when they tried to remove 1/2 eaten appetizers and partially finished cocktails. Ribs appetizer was tough, king crab app was not tasty at all and the sushi rolls were not great. The only decent part of the meal was the nigiri. Ooph. Where to begin. The best thing I had here was my glass of wine and the spicy edamame. The menu looked so promising but failed to deliver. I don't eat seafood but was so excited about the Wagyu ramen. The presentation was nice but it lacked flavor in just about every way. Quality of meat did not taste like the A5 I'm used to eating back in CA. I ended up giving the dish to my boyfriend because he did not like his roll - ate one piece and by the look on his face I thought he was going to return it to the plate. I ordered the wagyu gyoza instead since I was still hungry and it had an overwhelming taste of cinnamon? Also was very dry so ended up dunking them in soy sauce which was a shame. My boyfriend enjoyed the other hand rolls he ordered but again, nothing special and just didn't match the price tag. He's had much better sushi for half the price. Perhaps we are spoiled by restaurants like Nobu and Sugarfish where we live so our standards are higher. Service was fine, nothing remarkable but they were busy so that's understandable. Our server was kind. The design/vibe of the restaurant was cool but the music was so loud we had to shout over the table to hear each other. Disappointing overall after spending nearly $400. I frequent Aspen often and always wished there was something better than nobu in terms of sushi as there are Nobu's in most cities. Madame ushi blew me away with it's food, ambiance and very friendly servers. Usually restaurants have one or the other, great food zero ambiance or vice versa; this place has both! The food was beyond delicious, and being a self proclaimed sushi snob, the fish was fresh and so yummy! The music was on point and the crowd was beautiful!
