This review is about this store, but mostly about macy's.com. Right before Christmas, I tried to place an order for a pair of pants that were on sale on macy's.com. When I entered my debit card number, I got a message saying that the card could not be used. I knew that I had enough money in my account, but I double checked anyway, and all was ok. Not sure what the problem was, I tried a credit card, and got the same message, even though again I knew I had enough money on the account. I went back and tried the debit card again a couple more times (I know, I should not have done that), and each time I got the "bad card" message." As it was late at night and could not call the customer service number (why doesn't a huge department store like Macy's have a 24 hour customer service number a few weeks before Christmas?!?!), I was able to chat with a representative online, who told me that there was one and only one order placed, and she gave me my order number. Just to be sure, I called macy's the next morning to confirm my order. The rep on the phone told me that she could see the attempts, but there were no orders placed. I checked my checking account, and the money had come out for each time I had hit the button to place the order - so the money was being held by macy's but they were telling me that there was no order. The rep on the phone said that the holds on the money would fall off in 3 days, so I asked her to just place the order over the phone and I added one more thing to my order. She got the same "bad card" message - and took more money from my checking account. She told me she'd check into it and call me an hour later. She did, told me she couldn't find out anything and hung up. So I emailed macy's customer service through their website asking for an explanation and my order and the rest of my money back. How could they say that the card was declined when Macy's was actually holding $130 out of the account?? Late that night I got a call from them. At this point, I thought there might be fraudulent activity on my checking account which might be blocking any transactions, so I told her I'd check with my bank, and she said she'd check with some other department at macy's to find out what was wrong. She said she'd call me at 10am the next day. Never got a call from her. After several more attempts at calling the toll free number, explaining the situation over and over again, still trying to place my order, and get the rest of my money back, I finally talked to a customer service rep who conference called my bank with me. The rep at my bank told us that there were no holds on my account, there were sufficient funds in the account, and there was no problem with my placing an order. Now, my bank had told me that in order to have the money released, macy's needed to fax them a note authorizing the release with the amounts and transaction date. So I told the macy's rep to go ahead a put through one order and send the fax to the bank releasing the extra charges. The macy's rep and the bank rep went over each dollar amount and transaction date twice, clarifying which were to be released and which one would be kept for the order. I was told that once the fax was sent, the money would be released right away. Several hours later, the money still had not been released, so I called the bank. They checked - yes, the fax had been received but the macy's rep had authorized the wrong amounts and the wrong date!! After we had gone over it TWICE! Seriously???? So after work, I just went into the Woodfield store, went to customer service, and explained my situation. Their answer - "hm, I don't understand how that could happen...but we don't have anything to do with macy's.com. I can't help you." After further pressing, she called a manager who listened to the whole story again. At this point, I no longer wanted my order, I just wanted all of my money back and an explanation as to why macy's was declining 2 perfectly good cards. The manager said she'd call macy's.com the next day and find out. The next day she called and told me that the money would go back into my account that day, and that was it. I still have no idea why my cards were declined. I had been using them for other Christmas gifts all month and I continued to do so after this incident with other merchants with no problem.. There were sufficient funds in the account, as verified by my bank, to put 5 holds on my account. I'm amazed that I had such a difficutl time ordering from a huge store like Macy's at Christmas time - and no explanation! Just 'screw you, we don't want your money.' Macy's is no Marshall Fields. read more
