This Macy's store is divided into 2 parts - the Men's and the Women's.
The Men's department is competely secluded and located at another side of the mall (Valley Fair) and the Women's in another. The Men's and the Home department are actually in the same side of the mall.
There's a Macy's in the Sunnyvale shopping center but I go to this store because it is absolutely bigger and has more merchandise.
During the week is when I prefer to shop here. Preferably in the morning, between 10 am and 12 noon. It gets too packed later in the day and all the more in the weekend.
Park in the garage next to California Pizza Kitchen. The walk to the Women's department is shorter. If you would like a longer walk, park by Nordstrom's and get yourself a pretty nice workout. If you would like yet a much longer walk, park by O'Connor Hospital a few blocks away...LOL.
I rarely shop for clothes at Macy's - jeans from time to time, but also rarely. What I come here for is the first floor merchandise: shoes, perfume, jewelry and makeup. There's plenty of designer perfumes and endless testers. Staff is very accommodating and friendly and won't push or shove you in a corner until you purchase a product. For some reason I notice that there's plenty of Armenian/Farsi workers here (I hear them speaking in this language a lot of times).
If you're shopping for perfume and actually purchase a bottle, you may ask the staff to give you samples. If you're lucky, you'd walk away with at least 5 samples. Some staff are very generous with samples (and I will make sure I'll take note of their names next time) and some staff are just too "unkind" - as if they actually have this evil plan of taking home all these samples at the end of the day. LOL.
Shopping for shoes is also pretty cool...although waiting for your size may take a while. Their shoe products and brands range from Jessica Simpson to Christian Louboutin. I just wish that somehow, they would have more available designs that are available online. Like say Steve Maddens and Sam Edelman. Their shoes can go on sale and these designs aren't too bad. Like I said, I shop here before noon as it is one of my ultimate pet peeve to encounter panic-stricken shoppers (you know, the kind that seems as if their feet will disappear if they don't make the next purchase within 5 seconds). Ugh, such a drag!
Accesories at Macy's are also endless! Although there are similar accesories in JC Penney, Macy's have more designs and products and more fashionable...aaaaaannnnnd I like shopping around while good music is being played in the background. Makes trying them on feel like I'm in a commercial or a photo shoot...or something. There was this one time (at Band Camp) where there was an actual DJ spinning some Today's Hits right by Urban Decay. I almost dropped my shopping bags and start shaking my bootay.
BUT I held back and kept shopping.
There's a purse and bags department too, at the first floor. I rarely shop for purses here though. I go to my old friend Monsieur Vuitton for my leather needs or to Burberry accross the street in Santana Row. For some reason, a few years ago, I used to shop for purses on sale at Macy's and a few months later find myself driving to Goodwill and dropping these purses off.
Macy's has a wide variety of purse brands though: Michael Kors, Dooney and Burke, Harajuku Lovers (very cute), Le Sport Sac, Marc Jacobs, Franco Sarto are among some. Oh and Jessica Simpson bags are pretty cute and affordable.
The staff, overall, seem to be busy all the time. Unless you actually walk towards one, you can almost not get what you need on time. I am not saying that they have to hire "brighter" staff but there was this one time (at BC), my Macy's card was not accepted and so they had to reactivate it. This process caused me to fill-out a little survey which included what my annual income is. The Vietnamese lady who was assisting me insisted that I choose the 30,000-35,000 bracket (when the stylus pen was pointed at the 150,000-). I'm like "whoooaaaaat?" and she's like "why? you really earn 150,000?" I was like "just in case you thought, this Vernis Alma bag is authentic and Bottega Veneta isn't the name of a secret garage for refugees" - I really didn't say that. It just happened that when I was shopping exactly when this event occured, I wore a t-shirt, jeans, my hair pulled back in a ponytail and I had absolutely no makeup. Please, not because I shop with no makeup on doesn't mean I work next door at Radio Shack. No shiyet.
I wish shopping space was bigger here, especially in the first floor. The accesories department is too closely-spaced and so is the makeup section.
A novel of a review, I must say. read more
