Easy access right off the freeway. I was heading up to Sonoma and I realized that I'd forgotten a collared shirt. I only had my undershirt on. (I usually leave them on the hanger until I get to my destination) I bought a nice $60 one on the way up, wore it with the tag tucked in and returned it on the way back down. It was Christmas Eve, I procrastinated as usual. I end up getting default gifts perfume & cologne. To my surprise the store is NOT packed, there where a few in there but not what I am accustomed to on Christmas Eve ( I do last minute shopping EVERY year). I was looking for help, and one sales person said, (black hair) I need to go to the men's section, I can't help you anymore. I said WOW!? Don't they work on commission?? Then a lovely blond sales woman came to my rescue! Handled me with kid gloves from counter to counter (men's, fine fragrances AND cosmetics!) I wish I could remember her name! She made me feel at ease, checked EVERYONE off my list... I had time to go up to the petite section for me! In the petite section upstairs I found 2 fantastic clearance tops for UNDER $8.00 each! (70% off last marked price) I'm pleased, I will go back. read more

Avoid the weekends here if you are in a hurry. I'm one of those list makers that likes to check off quickly. 3.5-4 stars depending on the department. Kids area is always very friendly and helpful and efficient. Beauty counters, shoes, mens as well. I mistook the Juniors dept for a hipper women's area after seeing all of the motherly types heading over there -- yeah, imagine your mother in skinny jeans and a halter top. Hmmm. Home department can be hit or miss. We did have to go here to tackle some of our wedding registry issues, only to have staff bicker over who should be handling the different things. I actually even remembered who the person was this second time around nearly half a year later! read more

I've come in here on multiple occasions looking for an affordable dress and always left empty handed. For all the clothes that seem to be in this store, they only ever have a handful of dresses in a size 6 or 8 that are remotely attractive. If you're not a teen, but not a senior, the chances of finding an age appropriate dress here are slim. This place makes Ross look super organized. Ross is great and all, but I expect more from Macy's. read more

Macy's is one of those weird department stores that is very different depending on location. The Northgate store sort of horrifies me with their odd offerings in women's clothes. What is with all the sequin and stud adornments on what would otherwise be a nicely-fitting, totally wearable shirt?? And jeans with rhinestone back pockets, really?? I won't wear that stuff. Obviously, Macy's and I do not have the same style sense, so, just warning you in case you are also of the no-rhinestones-or-sequins clan. Also, one of the newbie sales clerks threw around attitude last time I was there, thus the impetus for my review. And the make-up counters? Forget it. They're not even staffed most of time. Housewares and the mattress department (one of the few "yays", they have mattresses!!) have the most sane customer service folk, as does the men's shoe department. There are also 2 great women who work in the lingerie department yet I think they are tired of their store also, seeing as they always have sweat on their brow and frazzled hair because they've been jockeying all over trying to find the one odd-sized bra that 12 customers want all at the same time. It's a busy department EVERY time I'm there and the scene I usually encounter is of one poor soul working the register surrounded by 4 customers while another employee is always out to lunch in the back room and never comes out. It's crazy and women don't need more crazy in their lives. My advice? Staff that department and give them a raise Macy's! In contrast, the Corte Madera store is a completely different animal. It's calm, shoppable, and there are a few things even worth buying. San Francisco store? The bomb as far as having a humungous selection of everything, even clothes without sequins. Samantha, working with her manager, Virginia, just blew the 5 star customer service benchmark they strive for our if the water. I have spent nearly 2 years in an all out assault attempting to get the perfect linen bedding, back support bed topper, and down comforter. It took Samantha no time at all to get me what I wanted, make good on the incorrect price advertised on the mailer and after we spent hours getting everything just right....Samantha carried it to my car for me. Macy's keep people like Samantha around and despite inventory or a bad season, your team will have the education and product fluency as well as system knowledge to find customers things to get excited about. I am thrilled after spending all day pissed that online, which I have been told is the end all be all couldn't even find products advertised and hung up on me. Horrible. Everything from the dirty carpet to the crammed 4way racks to the disgusting fitting rooms which are never cleaned and jammed with clothes. Stopped by today to find a few things and as always- was disappointed. Where do I start?.. the customer service is just non existent. Not a single sales person ever wants to help you. EVER. This happens every time so so this is not an isolated occurrence. I asked for help with sport bras and of course I just get "they are over there- on the wall" well.. yes- but I need some assistance. Not happening here. Then of course, when you finally find a register that has a live person actually standing by ( because they are not helping you on the floor) having it actually work is another thing. I mean every time people!! Fix the registers please. So then you have to walk to another whole department to use another register because the gal who is using the only register around -customer walked away and she has to wait holding up that register to continue ringing in her sale- mind you , you can suspend the transaction and come back to it at any time but of course they don't understand how to do that so I have to walk yet to another register to complete my sale. Unbelievable. I used to work at the Bon Marche in Seattle ( bought out and turned into Macy's federated) and was their customer service trainer and trained 1000's of people so I am fully aware how all his works. Since federated took over , the store has turned to garbage. Horrible selections in clothing and horrible customer service. The store looks like trash and isn't maintained at all. Now they have a new section on their main floor which is equivalent to a Ross Dress For Less. Seriously! I mean it has all the same items and name brands with the exception of a few Macy's Brands like Dooney and Burke and Le Sport Sac. Don't get me wrong- I love a bargain, but it brings down the joint. It would be a 1 star easy but the nice gentleman in the bargain main floor area ( African American, with a Mohawk) was super friendly , he knew his merchandise and gave great customer service. This Macy's itself is fine. Its definitely not anything special or even pretty good, but it works. Like most of the other reviews have already said, if you're looking for something higher-end or extra spiffy.... go to Corte Madera. Even both Macy's in Santa Rosa are much better than this one. But here's the real kicker------- I went to the Benefit Brow Bar in this Macy's to get my brows waxed. Now, I've been a brow-waxee for years and I know the lingo, so I say to the girl (who happens to be a big Macy's Brow-waxing star), "I just want them cleaned up; I don't like thin eyebrows; I just want them to stay natural-looking." She says she'll take care of it. Whoa! She definitely took care of something... maybe her angst or frustration or something. My eyebrows had nearly disappeared and in their place were two ridiculously drawn on caterpillars. I was in shock. My boyfriend comes to get me and shrieks "wow, you look like a clown." That was a week ago and now my brows are still irritated and zitty... and I don't get zits. NEVER GO TO MACY'S BROW BAR! read more

Melanie at cosmetics has horrible customer service. Being understaffed is an ongoing issue for many companies and is understandable. I came i today to buy a perfume and smell a new one. There was a line going I was 3rd she was helping two boys for 10 mins. She then goes to a whole separate counter and helps other people that came way after. There was a language barrier with the a lady that was second in line so I helped her by asking Melanie if there is someone that can ring her up she already knew what she wanted and had been waiting for a while before the woman Melanie was helping. She cut me off saying she'll be there when she's done with the lady. Fortunately I was there to help the lady that only spoke Spanish and I believe a lady from Mac was able to check her out. Melanie finishes with the lady and I was next she ignored me and again went to another counter because I spoke up. Paula very kindly helped me out and you can tell she knows what she's doing just but the way she bagged our things in a channel paper bag. Melanie was putting her customers stuff in plastic bags. She needs training and better customer service. read more

Bravo for Macy's for finally opening a "big and tall" department for men. A friend who used to be an employee here told us about the new big and tall department sometime last summer, but we didn't get around to actually going there until the fall. But when we did get there, we hit it and hit it hard. It just so happened that the weekend we were there was one of the very few times of the year that Macy's allows you to use their additional sale coupons on designer merchandise such as Ralph Lauren. It was the first time ever that the SO was getting clothing prices similar to those I get. He was averaging 65% of the originally marked prices. Right now it is only a small portion of the men's department, but we were told that if it does well, they will expand it. Hopefully this won't be a short-lived experiment for Macy's. Big and Tall guys need a place to shop for good looking clothing as well and they don't always want to pay the high prices that Rochester commands. Competition is a good thing. My elderly mother & I came into Macy's today to look for luggage. The sign at the first floor said Luggage was on third floor (I'll post the photo). Up 2 escalators we went & didn't see it. I asked the lady who said it had been moved to the first floor by men's. I told her about the sign & she said they are moving things around. I said- well how about you just put a piece of tape over the sign? Nope- not her job. This Macy's has a definite "lower-end" feel compared to the one at Corte Madera mall. It is so interesting that this Macy's doesn't carry any of the higher end brands that make up the majority of the clothes at the Corte Madera location! If you just want regular ol' clothes and don't need anything special or fancy then this Macy's will likely meet your needs. However, if you need something higher quality, designer name brand, etc. then don't even bother with this location - just drive to the one in Corte Madera instead. read more

How is it that The depmt stores that want more business still have service that is deplorable. Firstly at Macys Northgate Mall--no sales service and then when we choose items on our own and are ready to pay, each of us waited for almost 30 minutes. Finally one additional cheerful, not almost dead cashier arrived to get the line moving. Many in the line said that "no wonder we all resort to Amazon Prime." Come on Macys figure it out. I needed a back to school boost and an image rebranding but didn't know where to start. Katie was wonderful today. I am pretty bad at picking out make-up and she made me comfortable enough to wild out and buy five times more than I went in for ha. As a previous manager of a chain of furniture stores, I understand the importance of delivering nice new furniture. That was not the experience with Macy's today. It's sad to say that after two weeks with no sofas we still do not have ours. The delivery guys showed up with what was supposed to be our new leather sectional. Well they had it out of the box already and sitting in a larger plastic bag. It didn't even look new. When they brought the first unwrapped piece down, it looked used. I went outside to their truck and saw my furniture basically shoved in the truck with lots of other furniture there as well and stacked on top of each other and my sectional was not protected. I mean really Macy's. For what you charge and say is new to the customer , that is what they expect. Not an oops maybe the warehouse messed up. I am very frustrated at this whole thing. Now I wasted my day that I had to take off of work. The loss here is much greater than you can imagine. I feel like Macy's was trying to pull a fast one and got caught. This is not acceptable. And by the way Macy's it's all on video of the entire painful process of figuring out how your huge company tried to scam me. read more

I have never in my life had such utterly deplorable customer service as the furniture department at Macy's Northgate: The person taking my order tor outdoor furniture failed to follow up on when my order was to be delivered. Twice I received an automated email stating that the furniture would be delivered and both times I waited the entire day and no delivery on either date. I called the sales person each time and left messages about the failed delivery, no response whatsoever. I called the department manager no response. After hours of trying to reach a person in the department I was told that each time my order had been held up due to problems in the warehouse. I was not informed of any of this . I am now waiting for the third time for this delivery. If it doesn't come today I am canceling my order. From the sales person to the department manager, both have been extremely irresponsible and negligent in follow through for this order. Won't shop that department at Macy's ever again. read more

I just visited Macy's in San Rafael It was easier to find a decent suit for a decent price than it was a sales person or Macy's employee by the time I found the fitting room on the opposite side of the store I was already feeling like it was a bad idea to shop here then I saw that the fitting room is not really a fitting room at all but a lounge I do not know how they expect to sell clothes at Macy's if you cannot try them on so I left the suit and shirt there and walked out no greeting no assistance and no goodbye read more

Well it's been awhile since I walked into Macy's. I stopped coming because customer service was so poor. I needed some bed sheets and decided I'd give it another try. They had the sheets just fine, but the line to check out and purchase was seven deep. I heard the girl make a call for help but no one came to help check out. This is exactly why I stopped coming years ago, and unfortunately things haven't changed. And a note for management, it xmas. You may need more help. I agree completely with Mindy S. (review dated 6/04/2013). This store is not only a mess, but it has gone downhill as well. Unclean. Disorganized. Cluttered. With salespeople (HA!) who rarely leave their little "Customer Service" corrals to actually work on the sales floor cleaning, or straightening or folding or, GAWD FORBID, greeting or helping customers. The Mens' Dept., is completely disorganized. Nothing in size order. NOTHING. Clothes on the floor. Broken hangers with incorrect sizes on them. Tags completely missing or, when present, not matching the actual garment. And yet they still expect me to wade through this mess and pay $200 for a pair of slacks. Amazing. The branded departments (e.g., Polo, etc.) are a joke. It's a shock that companies such as Ralph Lauren would allow their brands to be tainted by association. Also in the Mens' Dept., a huge self-serve kiosk dispensing Apple products. At least I think it was Apple products because the interior of the glass case was not lit....could barely see anything inside. Kiosk is wedged between clothing racks. Figured it was out of service or being stored. No, it's supposedly up and running (well, the LCD screen worked...barely). What Brainiac came up with this as a selling idea? It's very clear that the kiosk is not meant to actually SELL anything effectively but is something that Macy's is charging Apple rent for the placement on their selling floor. And I use the term "selling floor" gratuitously; it is FAR, FAR from that. Actually, Macy's might think it's a "selling floor" but it's most certainly NOT a "buying floor." And Macy's management all scratch their collective heads and wonder why their business is off. Right here, Macy's: customer talking to you! I left the store without buying anything and promptly spent over $500 elsewhere. And then I realized: every single time I've been in this Macy's in the last year: I've left the store without buying anything. Albert Einstein: "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." For being a major department store in the only enclosed mall in a very wealthy county, this store is an embarrassment. Nice store normally help for employees, Christmas shopping days near closing is not a pleasant time to shop. Employees don't have time to answer basic questions even while just standing there waiting for people to leave the store, while people are still being rang up, not just one unpleasant experience with one person 3 people and 3 different unpleasant experiences. What does Macy's have a rule 10 minutes after closing all employees out or no one gets paid!? It's Christmas we are all frazzled but your in RETAIL if a person arrives at checkout at 10:01pm take care of them the same way you take care of someone at 10:01am. The reason online is more popular, we can shop whatever time we get off work and not have to deal with the illusion of people there to help, we know they aren't and we pay less for the inconvenience. read more

I went here to drop a bunch of money on starting a bran new bra collection. Went in to lingerie to get fitted. There was 2 ladies working at the register and the only two i saw in the whole department, and they were so rude! They seemed to be bitching at each other about how one was supposed to be getting off and the other was supposed to be going on break. OK? They shue me back to the dressing room and I stand there for a while awkwardly. One of the ladies comes back and I ask her again very nicely if she could fit me. She's hella flustered rushing around and angrily tells me "ITS MY BREAK TIME AND IM LATE TO BREAK!" .... Oh Immmm sorry I was not aware, nor am I responsible for your department being so understaffed you don't have enough hands to help myself and about 2 other women roaming around in this huge department. Its not a reason to be rude to customers or make customers feel bad for asking you for assistance which is your job! Keep it professional Macy's! Their shoe department and the shoe staff has really went down over the years. I found a pair of shoes on the clearance rack. I asked one gentleman to see if he could find the match in the back. He wasn't gone all of but 2 minutes came back and said that the couldn't find it. I asked him if i could give him my number just in case they found it. You wanna know what he said to me??? "Forget about the shoe, you will never find the match to the shoe, so just pick something else." Excuse me??? The are offensively becoming rude and more rude.
