I never realized how emotional buying clothes could be until I went to Viva Diva. The woman who helped me was Kira Winningham. I am a very short, curvy, 53 year old. But Kira had a soft and creative flair. She had me trying on many things that actually made sense for my age, height, and style. Everything fit like it was made for me. Suddenly I looked taller thinner and less Ross dress for less. I looked very fancy Marin in an effortless way. Kira was like a fairy Godmother and I felt like Cinderella without even realizing what had happened. This is the power of really great clothes and having an expert on hand to style you. In Europe people only own a few things. They wear the same things over and over again. I kept thinking I can be fabulous! Kira just made this happen. By the time I got home I had a new pair of jeans and a beautiful top for spring and summer. Timeless pieces to enjoy. I was almost in tears I was so happy. The brands they sell are: Mother Denim, Velvet, Free People, Hudson, Bella Dahl, Rails, Micheal Stars, and beautiful under garments by Cosabella. They also had belts from Italy and Holland that were simply gorgeous. They were under $100 and by Embrazio and Amsterdam Heritage. All to die for. I couldn't NOT stop in at this sweet little boutique on 4th. My weary boyfriend was exhausted from our day of exploration and was SO not in the mood to shop. ...But like I said, couldn't not. So under the promise of "Just a peak... Pleeeeeeese", we ducked inside. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh. A deep breath of beautiful! I immediately recognized my favorite earrings on display in colors I've never seen, and a top or two that I already own. I felt right at home. Literally. Like I was in my own bedroom... And then out pops Sammy. Love her! Really. Super friendly and informative as I grill her with questions about San Rafael and the surrounding area. (Sammy if you're reading this and I DO relocate... can we seriously hang out!?) I did a fast lap as my uber-patient boyfriend camped out on a little dressing room stool. I caught the pained "taking too long" look in his eye, so we hit the road. But. There was a way cute pair of boots on the back table... I have thought about them at least once a day since I left. I am so disappointed with Viva Diva. After shopping there for over 10 years, and never walking out without spending at least 500, I was completely shocked by there unwillingness to return a pair of jeans. I specifically asked if they would stretch out. They didn't have my size so they gave me next size up, since I was in a rush, I wasn't able to try them on. They said they would only stretch a little bit, but after getting them home and wearing them for 15 minutes, it was clear they sold me wrong size. The very next day, I went back to return them, with no luck. I think their return policy sucks, and I'm out 200.00. Their return policy sucks. I will not be going back again. read more

Aimee has a great eye for fashion that fits well, looks great and has a sexy fun practical edge for every age and type of woman. Aimee also has an incredible heart for her customers and hires THE GREATEST staff. I always feel the love in there. Rather than feeling cornered and pushed into buying, I feel understood, heard, supported and encouraged, and without fail manage to walk away damned glad that I came--- and usually not empty handed. Especially during this weird Covid era when retailers have so little on the floor, Viva Diva should be appreciated and supported as they manage to keep their nest feathered for us---despite the challenges of this time on small retailers. I think I'm done with this great store. The owner & staff are definitely nice & I always get great service no matter if I'm dressed to impress or look like a frump. My problem is I'm typically in a hurry & I'm told that everything looks great on me. This absolutely cannot be the case & I end up bringing things home that don't work later on or rush out in a pricey pair of new jeans from which the staff quickly & happily remove the tags because "they look fabulous!" well, the last pair did look fabulous for an hour or two. The $140 Citizens had so much stretch that I couldn't wear them for a day without them falling off my frame. The return policy has Viva Diva down to two stars. They just don't accept returns for anything worn (even once) without tags (even if they insist on removing them). I hate that I've got to knock off another star since this is our area's only boutique with some great labels, but I've been disappointed too many times & for too many reasons now. Nordstrom it is & being much bigger, they can handle returns for nearly any reason. I need that insurance. read more

I bought my dearest and most favorite pair of juicy jeans here when I moved to Marin in 2003. This boutique has saved me quite a few times from having to head to Mill Valley or the city to find some unique items. Their sales are fabulous when you shop the right day. I was able to pick up an A pocket denim jacket on sale. I am always treated well when I stop in however I was in the shop one time close to closing and the lady working was extremely rude to a customer wanting to stop in and take a look around. My only problem with them is that they tend to cater to the smaller sized girls, and although I'm not huge I do have a fair amount of booty that usually does not fit into Viva Diva clothes. So I just go and dream about how great I would look if any of their pants fir me. I have bought some amazing scarves, hats, shirts and jewelry from there. I have only side walk shopped due to the fact I had my giant stroller with me.. I noticed they carried seven jeans and lots of really cute tops. I am planning on going back for a new shiny tunic top! I went back today and I am only adding this due to the fact that the staff was so outwardly nice and genuine... The top I wanted was gone but they went over the top to double check and then show me other similar items! I could not be more pleased by the way the treated everyone in the place! I was a little intimidated after reading the one review of how the clerk had looked her up and down... but that was not the case today! I love Via Diva and have shopped there for years. I miss Maryann and John who always made me a fantastic deal on furniture. Its a great place where you can negotiate price a little. Lately Ive found great deals on jewelery there and Im sooooo thrilled with my latest piece of silver with a carved intricate flower of mother of pearl. My price at 75% off was 11.00 !!!!! I dont know about you ladies, but I love a bargain and this place is filled with lovely little jewelery treasures you will miss if you dont ask about them. I love this boutique! It runs a little pricey, but you can usually find things for cheaper price points as well. Also the girls who work there are not only extremely sweet and helpful, but they are also honest. You could shop there by yourself and have them help you decide on what looks good on you. It doesn't have any of the typical "boutiquey snobbiness" that I find at so many Marin stores. Not only are the prices affordable, they have AMAZING clothes and the nicest workers I have ever met in my life. They make me want to come everyday!! To my knowledge, all of the women who work there have been there for years and I think that is what makes this store so unique. They are open, nonjudgemental, and have such a positive vibe. San Rafael is not exactly a fashion destination, but Viva Diva rocks. I started shopping here about 6 years ago when I stumbled upon it while trying to find a dress to wear to a friend's wedding. I hadn't found anything I liked in the big department stores and after wandering in here I couldn't decide among about half a dozen options. Since then I have periodically shopped here and always manage to leave with several interesting, fashion forward (but not over the top), and classy items. The last time I was in it seemed they had adjusted their price point for recessionary times, and I appreciated this. This store is really cute and super well merchandised. They have a lot of really great options. That aside, the customer service is fantastic! They were friendly, helpful, funny, and genuinely cared about each of the customers who were in their store. I overheard them helping a mom buying a gift for her daughter, a woman going to a reunion, and some ladies just out shopping. All that and they still had time to help me pick a shirt and when I needed another color - sales person knew exactly where to find it. They also gave me a couple tips to find a local hike. There is always a fun conversation going on about pop culture or some hilarious personal issue that you are always encouraged to throw your 2 cents into. I just feel at home there. It's as if I just spent an hour with my best girl friends. I always leave with the confidence that my purchase was the right one. I have been shopping their for years and I still have most of the clothes I have bought. They stand the test of time and are of great quality. That, to me, makes them worth the price tag. They have the best denim selection and seem to be experts in the laws of the way your jeans are supposed to fit. I have never been steered in the wrong direction. Best place to shop hands down. You will always find something to love and the staff is fantastic! You will always find a friendly person waiting to help you. They will give you an honest opinion on how something looks if you want it, and they'll pull stuff for you if you need help. Amy the owner is fabulous, Stefanie and Natalie are equally wonderful. I always get into trouble here because they carry wonderful things ranging from tart, true religion, velvet, michael stars, joes jeans, J brand, etc...
