A little early no shoppers out yet

I love the town center in Corden Madera, but whoever designed the parking lot all the spaces are too small

    Kevin B.

I've always liked this shopping center, even when I was a kid. But man oh man, it has changed so much over the years (for the better, I might add). But it wasn't until I recently revisited the Town Center in the midst of the Covid-19 lockdown that I truly appreciated how pretty this property is. No joke - this doesn't feel like a mall. As another Yelper so aptly described, it feels more like a small European village. That being said, most European villages don't boast a Crate & Barrel, Safeway, and CVS. But let's face it, if you're a shopping center, you're gonna need those anchor stores if you wanna attract suburban shoppers. But I'm quite impressed with the other merchants that they've assembled here. It's an eclectic mix of restaurants and retail. When it comes to restaurants, they have a nice collection of fine dining (Il Fornaio, Flores, Pacific Catch, etc.) and fast casual (Blue Barn, Pig In a Pickle, World Wrapps, The Counter, and more). So this ain't your typical mall food. No Sparro pizza or McDonald's here. Granted, you'll still find the inevitable Starbucks. But if that's not your cup of tea, the Town Center now has a Philz Coffee (which seems to be quite popular with the Millennials in town). More than anything, this is a beautifully landscaped shopping center. It's not just another mall. It's a comfortable, sunny place where you can spend the afternoon. Plus, they have a Farmer's Market on Wednesday and live music in the summer. Every time I come here, I discover something new and surprising. And I think that's the ultimate compliment for any business.

I've been coming to the Town Center since I was young so witnessing the recent remodel felt like part of my childhood was gone. Like another review mentioned, it had a Euro village feel. I loved the old brick walking stones and the original clock tower which gave the shopping center more character. These days you'll find a more modern mall. They updated the walking stones and made the store fronts more modern. There's also new funky outdoor seating and landscaping. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy certain aspects such as the new fountain for the iconic elephant in front of Barnes and Noble. I'm glad they didn't remove the mural on the side of Wells Fargo, which has been there for 20 plus years. I usually grab a bite to eat at Blue Barn or The Counter and window shop at REI or Urban Outfitters. The days of affordable stores are a distant memory. I have seen a countless number of stores open and close throughout the years. Some last months while others last for years. Sephora and Philz Coffee are the newest additions while PF Chang's and CPK recently closed.

I honestly think she needs an industrial cleaning cart so she wouldn't use the water ever again from this lovely fountain to clean stuff around this upscale shopping center

Beautiful outdoor shopping center with a nice variety of restaurants to choose from. The Container Store, Eddie Baurer and REI are very nice but the food choices is probably why most people visit the Town Center.

Heading over to start a bit of shopping , Barnes and N , the container store , REI , the counter, sees .

This outdoor mall is great . It was kind is strange to try to shop & enjoy it . Sephora has a very long line :( But the bookshop was good to walk right in , it's a big store , lots of wonderful gifts & wrapping papers , toys , cards , and more , starbucks also . The counter is good and kind of fun , but I did not go by to see what they are doing currently . Sadly the mall lost SLT , but luckily it has Crate and Barrel . I love Ethan Allen , I have a few pieces from them . Classic & well made furnishings . I will do a bit more shopping , but let's face it , this holiday is challenging us all . Hard time to feel comfortable spending , yet we seek normalcy and familiarity. I want to throw caution to the wind , but we never shop w out grabbing a sit down and a bite , today it was order mobile and grab it with out contact . But , u know , we all will get to the other side , soon I hope . That's about it , I have to explore more here , to see what stores are still there .

Always upgrading and make it a better place for people to shop. With the holidays coming they are stepping it up.

The down Center has been around for decades. But they never miss an opportunity to upgrade and become a place you want to go and do your shopping. They make it trendy and delightful to the eye. With the flower beds in the trees and shade and areas outside for seating they plan this very very nicely. And they seem to get businesses in there that are liked. Its used well enough that they stay open for a long time. Right now they're doing some more construction which is just continuing facelift for the place to keep it upscale. It's a great place to shop in an alternative to the shopping center across the highway. It's a little smaller but it's a little bit more unique as far as the experience goes.

There is ample outdoor dining in sun and shade, besides indoor dining. Since we arrived at different times, everyone enjoyed browsing through the bookstore, and window shopping around the center. The center is very kid and dog friendly and there are lots of areas and activities for kids to explore and enjoy. It is also clean. The reason for one star off: there is a vibe that all of us felt, and others have said the same thing about the shopkeepers and some staff. I was wearing a top from one of the stores and jeans from another shop there. I popped into each store and was ignored by everyone in the first place and watched as if I might shoplift in the other store. I had only my phone in my pocket and no bag at all. It was uncomfortable-making and I left both stores, which were understandably empty. The place is delightful as a location for walking around with kids and dogs. Lots of food options. But the stores are not as friendly as other locations of the same brands.

Then I was a member of The Trunk. Now I am considering the option to have Nordstrom brought to my home so I can try and buy things without going to the physical location. I didn't like the look in their eyes when they said that. But OK it's nobody's fault but mine because, as the Godfather Don Corleone explained , "I have a sentimental weakness for my children and I spoil them as you can see." In my earlier life I had failed as a packrat, instead preferring with each change of residence to send stuff to either Goodwill or the dump. So my kids needn't worry about their keepersakes. I'm unlikely to get rid of anything from my years as their mr family guy, being that for the most part their stuff is what little i have to remind me today of whatever it was I did before that. Not much to show for some 20 years as an itinerant... uh, itinerant. I don't learn from experience, just hope to get better results by repeating the same mistakes over and over and over and... which according to Einstein is the essence of insanity, but wtf did he know. I don't know either, but in my case it's a moot point anyway, at least according to the kind folks in Bellevue's 9.39 ward many years ago in nyc. But being much improved now, I have initiative: wake up, smell the coffee, put on a clean white shirt, get a haircut, shape up/ship out and similar happy horsesht, to wit: I was going to organize things for such day that I blow a fuse or something worse, and things will be in order. To make this happen I would pack everything in some nice plastic boxes, just like the winners in this world. Which is how I happened to visit the Container Store for the first time in my disorderly life. It's a bit intimidating to enter this place. There are so many different kinds of boxes, giving the sense that real people pack things up, neat and tidy in hermetically sealed, moisture impermeable, plastic storage boxes built for the ages. All this is an essential part of the good life. OK, but I just wanted something cheap, that wouldn't turn to dust like my old cardboard wine boxes have done after 50 years. Those are nice, free and simple to use with no selection to make, being that they're all the same size. Plus, you aren't likely to overload cardboard wine boxes when you've saving books or papers. Do that with a larger box and they're quite impossible to move without regretting it next morning getting out of bed. To keep on the sunny side of life, as I'm sure I almost always do, my approach is: can't figure how to solve your problem then ignore the problem. Is the Container Store where all my problems can be solved with the right plastic storage box? Really? Fortunately I did find just the right boxes, in the exact right sizes... the only question was what did they cost? It was my luck that the items I wanted had no prices anywhere, not on the shelf nor the items themselves, nor some sort of sandwich board on the pile in the middle of the store. I noticed this detail was missing on other items as well. Perhaps find someone to explain the pricing, but it won't be in a mere five minutes as store personnel are few in number. So I bought what I wanted having no idea what the total cost would be. But I knew that to be a minor issue with these boxes. The problem for me will be actually using them.
