I've noticed that San Anselmo has quite a few high end consignment shops, Sax being one of them. Located on the main street in cute downtown San Anselmo, the small space has an abundance of high end labeled clothing and some shoes. My daughter actually found a nearly new pair of Doc Martens that she loves. I did buy a new pair of pants, alas did not find anything else for me. The dresses range from about $85 and up. The brands ranged from all over, I noticed Missoni to Johnny Was to Free People. Service has always been friendly and helpful. When I'm in the area I always make a point to drop by, they higher the frequency, the higher the success. read more

They carry the best brands, brands that I typically shop at Nordstrom for now I can come here! Each time I've brought my children with me and they were super friendly to my kids and accommodating. I lugged 3 bags of luxury items across town to consign but had my little dog with me. I politely asked the woman working if I could consign and she said yes, but my dog wasn't allowed in the store. Their yelp page lists they are dog friendly. She pointed to a sign outside and said "did you not read the sign. Service dogs only." I just found it incredibly rude. My dog is under 10 pounds and the store is not a restaurant, so I have a hard time understanding the rule. I will be going elsewhere to consign with way less attitude. read more

Amazing curation and reasonable prices. There were two empty hangers: in my dressing room and on the rack, which "Dorkis" (Dorcas?) commented on, by which I felt she could be suspecting me of stealing because she noticed I was holding multiple sweaters (which I came in with). They have to pay the consigners half, so I didn't exactly blame her. I kind of appreciated her grit and spunk, which I noticed several times, and the other lady was quite sweet. Some of the styles were runway-worthy, radical, others more upscale-practical, but all in good taste. I usually don't consider buying such expensive brands, but they made it possible. Treasure hunting among fellow shoppers was a bonding experience. Not elitist-uptight Marin, but a genuine criterion passion for clothing. read more

The owner is the worst .. so rude when I come in EVERY SINGLE TIME . I've only been there 3 times ... I had other shopping bags and she tossed it behind the door . I had a shirt in my hands to try on and she asked another person if she could get them a room and hang up their finds but tells ME ..... "oh you need to put your drink down " when my drink is so far away from the clothes and in the opposite hand off shopping and if anything ever happened I would pay for it ....... She never would have said this to a women in her 40s !!!!!!! but because I'm in my early 20s she thinks she can tell me what to do and make me feel uncomfortable. Can't believe I've given this lady my money before . Horrible experience and terrible customer service . Won't be shopping there again I'll be going to Maggie's or some place in Fairfax . read more

I have been visiting this store for about three years and my wardrobe has definitely had a lift! This place has so many beautiful things and a lot of turnover, so there's always something new. All my interactions with the owner and the people working there have been very positive. I also appreciate when they've been honest enough to tell me when something doesn't work on me. This place used to be good but is owned now but creepy dishonest sellers. There is mislabeling (fake diamonds labelled real, fake silver labeled real) and dishonest salepeople. Also, they will only take your clothes on consignment if they think you will buy from them with the money you make. They are mean and judgmental to most people who bring in their clothes. At least that is my personal experience and what I witnessed time and again. The former owners over the years had talent and a good eye. The people running it now are just talentless grinds with bad taste and a big need for a quick buck. Run from this nasty place. read more

I came in yesterday and spent at least an hour or two looking through the collection. The owner was incredibly sweet, helping me and everyone else find exactly what we were looking for. The collection is young and the clothes are flattering. I ended up getting a reformation dress that normally resells for 100 for only 30 bucks, and the most adorable Burberry headband. As far as consignment stores go, this one is GREAT! They have current styles and brands (no old Gap shirts here). I saw Oska, Prada, Cole-Haan, Marni, Gucci. The service was friendly and though this is a small store, they seem particular about what brands/styles they consign. As often happens in stores, if you were S or XS or XL, you'll have the best choices; the M and L tend to be picked through more quickly. While in the store, I heard the cashier tell a customer they could not take any of the clothes she brought in. The woman seemed unconcerned and continued to shop because once in this store, you can't help but shop. Cons: Only two fitting rooms and being Marin, some people feel entitled to commandeer a fitting room. Pros: Great brands, small store so there's no feeling of overwhelm and wasting time, very helpful employees. Parking sucks as expected in downtown San Anselmo. read more

This place is small but carries vintage stuff you really want to buy and wear, unlike the nearby place Wardrobe Exchange. The owners really know how to cull the stuff that appeals to the eye and move quickly. Everything I have taken to them has sold. THey also have a good selection of new samples and good jewelry and other accessories. Its a great place to find unique gifts in the earring dept. (by the way, stuff rejected by Wardrobe Exchange was taken here and sold within two weeks) They like browsers, I often just stop in and check out to see what they have. I sell my stuff here and I get a pretty good deal from Jennifer, who is so super cute and friendly. Over the years, I've also bought really nice pieces of clothes and jewelry. I wish the store was a little bigger because it can get crowded. Easy process for selling: get there before 3 p.m., unload your stuff, and Jennifer goes through it all. She'll give you a date, usually two months from the day, to come back and see if anything of yours has sold. Really nice selection of merchandise--just what you'd expect from the closets of Marin folk: Kenneth Cole, Seven Jeans, Marc Jacobs and the occasional pair of Manolos. Only thing is that it's a trek to get to her place from the city, so I'm on the lookout for a similar outpost here. read more

Sax is under new ownership and I am back. I always loved the store, but mostly did not find items that fit me (10/12) or my lifestyle. After reading Brenda Kinsel's blog on style, I found out her daughters were now managing the store. I went in and brought some things for consignment, found a few things on my first visit! Love the mix of vintage and new, high and medium labels, all with an eye for the Northern California lifestyle but with fun, luxe items. Jewelry is great also. I was in on Monday, 8/14, and was helped by Catelyn (sp?). She greeted me, and took my new consignment items to hang so I could shop while she helped another customer. I found a great Paige denim jacket and a pair of Diana Slavin culottes that fit like they were made for me. I wore them out of the store because they elevated my outfit. And both were significantly lower than retail or other consignment shops in Marin. I love their eye for clothes, their pricing and their awesome customer service. I went shopping for my GF and found several items she ended up loving, and I got out of there for less than $100, almost unheard of. I had high hopes for this consignment shop based on the other Yelp reviews. I will say that the quality of clothing is better than most other consignment shops that I've visited in Marin. Also, the clerk was friendly. However, it is small and there isn't a very wide selection to choose from. The clothing did not seem to be organized by size, which made it a bit challenging to dig through. I also wasn't impressed with most of the prices, although that is the trend in Marin. This particular store is still on the pricey end for second-hand items. I did return to this store twice to give it another chance and I didn't find anything worth trying on during either visit. read more
