It's always light and open with an incredible, on trend selection of a nice variety of styles. Laura helped me today and I remember her from previous visits as well. I have to say that the quality of the items is all so like new, that it's almost as though you're at a boutique that carries a fun assortment, rather than a consignment shop. You might not fully notice were it not for the handwritten tags and incredible prices! If you love high end pieces or have just reached the age where old navy no longer looks good on you, do yourself a favorite snd stop in at Stella's. Two sisters run this place and they are lovely. They are delightfully friendly, often chatting with customers like long lost friends. They are great at suggesting pieces for you. Tell them what you are looking for and they can find it in a jiffy. My friend and hair stylist Tina told me about Stella's Consignment. I love designer clothes but gave up that lifestyle when I walked away from my real estate career and my husband and I decided to focus more on each other than making money. It has been wonderful for our relationship but I have to admit that I still really like nice clothes with a designer's name on them. I guess I have to blame it on my first pairs of Jordache & Gloria Vanderbilt jeans back in 1982! I was heading to Marin to run some other errands and so added the trip to Stella's in San Enselmo to my agenda. The store is located on a frontage road so is easy to find and easy to get to. When I walked up, I was greeted with a rack of well priced and colorful casual summer party dresses. Inside, the storefront is quite big, open, well lit and very well stocked. Pants and denim and skirts are grouped beginning with small sizes up to larger sizes. The dresses and tops are grouped by color. There are designer shoes, handbags and scarves displayed all throughout the store from floor level to eye level. From the description Tina gave me I knew I would enjoy the experience and it was still better than I expected. I spoke to Laura, the proprietor, and learned that her store is named after her Grandmother. She was welcoming and friendly but also let me wander and shop without any pressure. When I finally reached out and asked for some help she was very enthusiastic and offered me some great options. She was also a very helpful critique and let me know when something was too big. It was really a wonderful experience. I went specifically for summer party dresses for my sister's wedding in late May and ended up leaving with a great fitting pair of dark denim jeans and a light adorable flyaway sweater for the inconsistent weather Michigan will bring. It's happened: I've finally grown weary of grocery shopping. There was a time when I didn't mind trolling the aisles in search of products to get me through the week ahead. Now it's just one more damned unthankful task to work through so that everyone will have something to eat this week. And that's where Stella's comes in. Located two or three doors down from the San Anselmo Safeway, Stella's is sometimes the only reason I can even drag myself out for groceries. More often, it's the incentive I use to reward myself for actually having finished buying groceries. With their rack of sale items out front, they lure me in. (Really, luring isn't too difficult. What? I'd rather come home and unload groceries)? Inside, they have a wonderful eclectic selection of shoes, boots, belts, purses, jewelry, and clothing. All of it pre-used but most remarkably stylish and of recent vintage. I've bought sweaters, dresses, belts, and necklaces here, all when I ostensibly went to the store to get something for dinner. The gals who work there (the owners, I think) are very nice and friendly. There's no pressure to buy but chances are, if you hit the place up a few times, you'll find something to add to your wardrobe. Prices are a little on the high side, but still cheaper than you'ld pay for new clothes. I just love my $20 Sundance cotton peasant blouse and feel like a super thrify fashionista after finding this great shop on a recent trip to the Bay Area. My visit to this establishment was not to buy but to consign some shoes I could not wear. One pair had never been worn. I called first asking the clerk if I could come in today with the shoes and was told yes. She did not take the time to provide me with any information about their requirements for accepting items for sale so I assumed that if my shoes were current and in great condition they would likely be OK. When I arrived I waited for the clerk to look at my items which were in perfect condition and definitely in style. She was quite dismissive telling me she would have a "difficult time" selling them. She said nothing about why. Of course she has a right to her decision but she should make it clear to prospective consignees that she only accepts certain brands. I don't shop at Target but I do buy quality clothing and shoes and her "uppity" attitude was an embarrassment as well as a waste of my time. If Stellas is an establishment catering to those who are after the cast-offs of Marin's wealthy so be it. But let those who call in be forewarned. L. Redding read more

Can't say that I LOVED Stella's unfortunately. I'm big on consigning and do so pretty often but I was pretty underwhelmed by their selection and turned off by their prices. I love brand names as much as the next gal, but I thought they carried brand names just for the sake of the tag- some of the items were a little questionable. I got good prices for my clothing that sold, and have most always been able to find cheap steals, like a great pair of almost-new Chanel sunglasses that I got for $70! I'm in San Rafael most weekends and realized I hadn't been to San Anselmo since high school so I thought I'd take a couple hours to explore. Stella's was the only consignment shop that I found where I actually wanted to try things on. All the other consignment shops catered more to Moms and rich Marin ladies, but Stella's also had some clothes for the younger crowd thrown in. The sales lady was super nice and I ended up getting a really cute skirt for $28...not too shabby. I also really wanted this $70 goth prom dress but alas, it was 2 sizes too small. This is a great shop for unique, high-end pieces at fair prices. The store is clean and well-organized, making it easy to search by size, color and style. I was lucky to find a beautiful leather coat (Classiques Entier) and suede vest (Hinge) on my first visit. I was impressed with the variety of jean brands, shoe and bag selections. I spotted a new Kate Spade leather purse with the original tag for under $100 (too bad I wasn't in the market for a new handbag!). I was happy with the consignment process as well. When I called to reserve a time to bring in my clothes, Laura (the owner) was very nice and gave me helpful tips about their standards and what clothes they were likely to take/be able to sell. The Ladies of Stella's are like family to me. They definitely have a wonderful eye for fashion and always help me find what it was I didn't know I needed yet. Laura definitely save me the day my jeans ripped! The replacements are better quality, of course, and are now my favorites! Love Stella's! This is a small store with a big fashion impact. We have found so many treasures in the racks--from steals to splurges. It's crazy--but the style of the store is the exact style of our closets: patterns, stripes, floral. Eclectic and electric! Stella's is one of those magical places where you can be looking for something--the perfect new blouse, the ultimate pair of slacks--and you'll find it. In your size! How is that possible? Nope.... just can't give it a decent review. This my first and only experience and I will never return and will tell everyone I know about what happened..... Okay.... so I go in the store. I've always looked inside from the outside and I must admit they have really nice quality looking items. Great looking clothes.... shoes.... purses.... and all of it you can tell has been taken care of well and I am certain the owner takes pride in her store.... However this was a pretty "shitty" experience. I wasn't offended I was more taken back and would of expected better communication from a sales rep in this market with so much competition So on to my story. I walked in and there were a few people in the store. The clerk was hanging up clothes not working with anyone directly and just ignored without even saying "hello"... okay so that was cool, maybe she was in deep thought. I am a size 10 bottom and size 12 or 14 top (boobie problem). The last time I checked I am considered somewhat of a normal American woman size. I don't have shame around my size so it's easy to tell people how much I weight and also what size I am. SO I ask the clerk if they had many 10's, 12's, or 14's and her straight up answer to me in front of other customers was "The BIG sizes are all mixed in"... BIG WTF does that mean. I thought it was a rude comment. Also I find it very lazy that a store can't divide the stock by size instead of color groups... And this is how they seem to do it.... OHHHH and also Miss clerk pointed out to me that "some, not all of the BIG sizes had a blue ribbon on the hanger to help identify. Not that they need my business... because well I am BIG.... but gee I will do my best to make certain I tell this story to a lot of people who I am sure will get a kick out of it... So recently my clothing purchases have been weighing on my wallet and my conscience: the whole idea of worker exploitation, and the carbon emissions of shipping clothes to various locations around the globe, not to mention the crazy high prices of retail- it all started getting to me. But what is a girl to do? When it comes down to it, I am a hip young professional in Marin; I need clothes that are tasteful and appeal to certain demographic. And I can't thrift-shop it. Don't get me wrong; I ENVY people who can shop in thrift stores. I get in them and there is all this stuff, generally poorly organized, and all the people, and the sorting; I get so bamboozled that eighty percent of my thrift shopping excursions end in purchases that don't fit, or have hidden stains, or are just ugly when not viewed amongst racks of other ugly clothes. I had been in other consignments, but so many were still way out of my price range, or only carried super tacky things. I was about to give up. Really. I had resigned myself to selling my car and shopping retail. Then I found Stella's. Hooray! My salvation! A consignment store that carries great cast offs from all the Marin richies, that I can actually afford and look nice in. I loved how the clerk seemed to know half the people that came in and that her two little boys were playing in the back. From purses to dresses to shoes and jewelry, everything was up-scale, very nicely selected for sale, and thoughtfully organized. What a fun place to shop! The young cashier greeted me and was very friendly and helpful. She was patient, but not hovering. The selection varies, but overall I saw lots of great designer stuff from Tod's to LV to Prada and Celine. so you know how when you try on clothes you have the "yes" hook and the "no" hook in the dressing room? usually when i go to Stella's I say "oh thank god" when i finally try on something that goes on the "no" hook. The best part is, I can bring every one of my friends there, who all have different styles, and they will all find tons of stuff they love there. The owners are really sweet and helpful too. Went Consignment shopping with my 19 year old daughter today. Our final stop was Stella's and it was hands down our fav! So many cute coats on the rack out front! I coveted 2 or 3 that were a bit too small. :( The girls inside - the owners?- were very friendly and helpful. After reading previous reviews, I'm not sure why others think the prices were too high, because I thought they were very reasonable. Having said this, I did see a Scully Fringe Jacket that I've had my eye on for a while that was $145. It was too tight, so no go. I got home and looked it up and found one for brand new for $140. No biggy. Cute stuff, reasonable prices; I'll be back. :) read more

This place blew my mind. Ultra lucky that I stumbled upon this little gem by accident. The owner, Laura, is so great. No pressure to buy WHATSOEVER. I came out of the dressing room wearing this blue Ted Baker top thing. I asked her if it looks like a muu-muu, and she said yes, there's no need for me to hide my figure. She could've told me it looked great just for the sale. I found such unique goodies here: two tops, one sweater, one blazer, one pair of leather flats, TWO beautiful structured bags, and then some all for around $350. Oh yes, and the five-star service. I've read the other reviews. There was no snob factor here. There were two people working that day and they were both friendly and attentive. One even brought me water in the dressing room to boot. Love this place! I have been shopping here to get bargains on designer clothes since they opened and I was in high school. Today I live in Los Angeles and always stop by this place to find great deals in nice clothing when in town. They have a great, hip selection of nice brands like DVF, Tory Burch and some other very high end designer clothing that would be a lot more in Nordstroms or Neiman Marcus, compared to many stores in on the west side in Los Angeles this place has great selection and great value. The owners are very nice and always great their customers with a smile. I have gotten some great deals here including a beautiful silver fox fur vest that will be glam, stylish and elegant for the coming winter/fall, something that would normally be thousands of dollars in a high end department store.
