    Antique end table...excellent condition

Exploring Murphy's Curiosity Shop is like falling down the rabbit hole in Alice & Wonderland. You never know where you're going to land, but it's quite the trip! If you are looking for a specific item, Ricky will help you find it, though it may take a bit of time, as the shop is not logically organized and challenging to navigate. But if you're not in a rush, it's super fun to explore. A few years ago Ricky helped me find a gorgeous antique end table; more recently Ricky found a frame for a painting and framed it for me... he has a big collection of frames and artwork. Then he helped me find a marvelous collection of interesting containers, from old candy tins to used fancy cigar boxes (I use them for gifts of dried fruit I preserve or other things). Yesterday I left with two beautiful teapots of different styles and sizes. I've posted some photos of my Murphy's treasures below. This weekend I'll take a look at fountain pens for my daughter. I'm sure I'll return many more times for all kinds of interesting things, useful and decorative. You're not going to get flea market prices here but Ricky tries to be fair and will look up the standard going price of an item he's not sure about. So if you can leave your need for tidiness and order behind, text Ricky that you want to come, open your mind to all kinds of collectibles and get ready for an adventure.

With a mix of consignment clothing and manufacturer samples, MOTC is a small, local shop with an enticing mix of offerings. Even though the consignment clothing would never count as cheap, every piece appears to be in great shape with no evidence of wear. The sample pieces, still sporting manufacturer tags, also sport a huge discount off their recommended sales price. I picked up a pre-worn, stylish fleece from The North Face for $30 and felt that price was reasonable and returned home to tell my son he should check the place out for the sort of outdoor men's pants he likes. The array of offerings is not dissimilar from what one finds at REI, but on a much smaller scale. There's other outdoor stuff here too - including a proprietor with whom one can engage in for everything fishing related. Despite its size, the store features clothes for all ages and genders as well as outdoor equipment. Whether you've outgrown something or just want something new or gently worn, if you're seeking outdoor clothing and like those name brands, MOTC should be on your radar.

Marin is the Mecca if you are either an ordinary shopper or a reseller in the high-end resale market this is a fabulous cause as well. They dress people who are looking for a new start and help them get professional clothes to go to interviews and such. The donations for the store come from very nice and wealthy donors in San Francisco and other areas of Marin County. The prices here are amazing. I mostly shop for myself but occasionally find something well enough price that I could resell it. They have a five dollar rack where they put everything that hasn't sold in two months. I found some amazing things on that rack today. I also bought myself some lovely things spent more than five dollars of course but not anywhere near the actual value of these designer pieces if you are anywhere near this place, you must stop by and support this wonderful cause.

If it wasn't for a man sitting on a mission style rocking chair with other folksy furniture outside- we may have just passed this one by. The proprietor (Mr. Farey) was friendly and cordially answered my questions regarding history of the quaint local store. Having lived in the area all his life- he acquainted us about the other stores to visit and suggested places regarding our specific interests. If you're into stained glass window art- there were a lot to choose from starting with simple acorn styles to fine mosaic style and Tiffany rose window style. There were simple art deco lamps, tables, chairs mostly wood, and old mirrors ( I love OLD mirrors). PS- I would definitely put this store in one of the must visits when you go antiquing in this area! Very pleasant and accommodating!
