This was the 2nd antique store I shopped at one Friday in June, and it was a world of difference. I was greeted warmly and began my very long meandering through all the floors and rooms. It just goes on and on. Really saw some lovely items...and then spied exactly what would solve my need for a recently remodeled bathroom. I went to the cash register area and spoke with the woman about whether the owner of the item (there are several consignors in the shop) would negotiate the price. As luck would have it, the owner/consignor, in from out of town, was just walking in through the front door. We had a lovely conversation, she was totally amenable, and I got my chippy little piece of bathroom furniture. Couldn't have been easier or more pleasant. I'll definitely be back! read more

No trip to Petaluma is complete if I have not stopped in to browse this higher end, beautifully curated antique store. Not a store filled with knickknacks, but of reclaimed architectural finds, French, English and Italian furnishings, European urns, statuary, art and more. This is a designers playground, full of elegant decor choices. After months of deliberation, I finally caved and bought my lovely entryway gilded baroque style Italian mirror, complete with wonderful patina. I also purchased another intriguing smaller mirror which has a crown carved into the wood along with numerous rosettes. The prices as you can imagine are on the higher side, but comparable to the quality and selection. The staff is friendly and helpful, and willing to see if a particular vendor can do $ better on a must have piece. read more

Lovely wine tracks racks, pastry crystal, decanters and trunks. Stop by after lunch and get lost for an hour. Lovely vintage items for a home bar as well. A man who works here is super rude to customers. I was looking at several pieces from the 18th century to buy for my home in Southern California but they have definitely lost my business. Came shopping with my mom from Marin. My mom who is in her mid 70s was waiting for me sitting and reading her book as I looked around. A man yelled at her to get out and told her to go to Starbucks! Great way to make people feel welcome. Anyway, I will not ever be following up on any of the pieces I saw because of this incident. Would rate higher but during this public health crisis, I would recommend not going at all. The staff can't seem to be bothered to wear a mask despite their own signage. I've been looking at a piece and been in 3 times over this week and never seen them with masks on. In the past, a most go when shopping for almost antiques. Worst customer service ever. Was in the store this past Saturday and was met with very minimal respect by a male staff person. He was rude and condescending. He obviously needs training in personal Relations and customer service. We live out-of-town, but frequently travel to Petaluma. We certainly won't be back to this store and have advised our family that lives in the area to avoid this store. I suggest you train your staff to greet the public with some courtesy, but, more importantly, with respect. read more

I learned about Sienna from a music video, where the videographers staged the set with furnishings from Sienna. I liked what I saw, so I took a (long) drive up there, and discovered that Petaluma is a serious antiques town. No surprise to those in the know, but I was a brand new transplant back then and I would like to pass on this revelation to you, dear reader: make the trip to Petaluma. If Sienna doesn't float your boat, there are twenty or thirty other shops (between antiques, vintage, and arts/crafts) that you can explore. In addition to selling lots of cool old things, Sienna rents its stock to set designers for 20% of the total item cost; I don't know what the terms of rental are, length, et cetera, but I do know that in the Bay Area, it's more realistic to consider renting something for a photo shoot than it is to try to cram one more huge piece of furniture or decor into one's home or studio, so consider this a protip. I liked the selection here, and it did make the trip worthwhile for me, even if I hadn't traipsed all over town. Sienna's a standard large, multi-vendor gallery-style antique store, and in every corner there are things to inspire your art feels. It doesn't feel too claustrophobic to wander from space to space. I found some nice smalls (that's usually what folks like me call "non-furniture antiques," aka "old stuff that's smaller than a breadbox"), some costume jewelry. Not everything in here is antique, or even vintage, or even vintage-inspired. It is an expensive spot, for sure, and not all the staff are super friendly. It felt pretty cliquish in here, to be honest. I will go back someday, but I know that it doesn't quite live up to its hype, and that's okay with me. If you go in the summer, be warned that it is extremely hot in here. This is standard for Northern California antique stores, but it can be really difficult to take on the second floor. read more

Sienna is bigger in the inside than it looks from the outside. From the outside, it looks like an unassuming antique store, but it contains 3 floors. It is very pricey and the selection is spotty. For example, they have a large stash of recent Architectural Digests and National Geographics. A mannequin greets you on the way in, looking like the kind of plastic person who'd go on a voyage to the beginnings of life. It's a very random collection- they have street signs from the Sonoma Highway, magazines, an old map of San Francisco. The third floor has the creepy taxidermy collection, since they don't just have antelope heads, but entire animals. It keeps the Halloween spirit year 'round, because one gets the sense they were very much alive. Sienna is an interesting little spot. read more

I have never thought of myself as a materialist. I don't want and I don't own a lot of stuff. If you manage to drag me to Costco or Ikea or your average shopping mall, you'll find that I don't want any of that crap. But when I walked into Sienna, my perception of myself changed because I wanted just about everything in the place. I wanted the antique leather French salon chairs. I wanted the gigantor 200 year old farm table made from 2 enormous cream-colored boards of undetermined type of beautiful wood. I wanted the 1950's vintage lime green Weber kettle grill. I wanted the decorative urn filled with axes. I'd need a cube van to haul away all the things I wanted. This is an interesting place filled with a lot of good stuff. The building itself is worth a look. You'll have a good time just looking around. Now that I've become a materialist, the next order of business is figuring out how to make loads of money. read more

Most of the items were not vintage/antique and way overpriced (a cheap metal sign from standard computer font that was from a Target or Kohl's) was marked from the 40's and priced at $50 or the reproduction framed movie poster for $950. Lots of stuff just kind of laid about, more like a hodgepodge from your pack rat grandmother's attic. A few things caught my eye, but the prices were just outrageous and I couldn't vouch for the validity of the title antique. read more

I used to love Sienna. . . . .is it the crap economy or what? Now the store is half full of antiques. It looks like a lot of dealers pulled out. There are some beautiful items in this store, but I think the overall quality has declined through the years. There are a lot of French wine themed antiques and unique items that high-end decorators would purchase for their clients in San Francisco. The prices are outrageous! Three floors of amazing antiques in old downtown Petaluma. Their gothic Halloween displays are off the hook. They should hire the person who made their gothic curio displays to do set design for Tim Burton movies. It was love at first sight. This place has some of the most interesting antique finds, particularly some of the large pieces of furniture that would define any room in which they were placed. I was told at the time of purchase of a set of antiques that the one item in the set that was missing was at another location and that they would get it for me and call me in a week. Months of calls went by where they did not produce it and would not return calls. Now they say, "They can't find it" and are refusing to let me return the set. They ripped me off, took my money, lied, and when I said, "I am not happy with your answer. Let's find a way to work this out." The owner replied, "Do what you have to do." I found the owners to be extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I usually don't purchase from antique stores due to a limited budget. That being said, I had to have a red agate bistro table. The only problem was how to get it home. I was traveling by train. The owners made a few phone calls and solved my dilemma. A couple of weeks later it was delivered. Lynlie was a big help and gave me a good price on my purchase. HOWEVER, they recommended a shipper(Plycon) that has turned out to be a disaster. It's been a month since pickup and I'm 600 miles north in the Portland area and I still don't have my piece. Now I'm told by Sienna's George, that yes, they have always know Plycon had an issue with timeliness. This is information I needed before going with these knuckleheads.
