As soon as I walked in, a lovely employee says: "Today, all yellow tags are 50% off. It's your lucky Friday the 13th!" - and it was! I learned that there are different deals based on the different days, and that they are a non-profit organization that helps contribute to local communities! From beginning to end, their customer service was pleasant and helpful - they set me up with a dressing room and made sure my hands were free to do more looking around. The store organization made it easy to find pieces within their well-curated collection: from funky to formal - and the various unique finds in-between.... My only wish is that they were open a bit later so that my partner could have looked around in the store as well because their men's clothes selection was also very impressive. (He was outside looking after the dog since animals are not allowed inside). Just as a heads up: there are little spaces in the dressing room, so it is not fully private.... but thankfully the staff was on it with their service so I felt safe the entire time. Also, there appeared to only be two dressing rooms, so I am happy that I arrived at the time I did. All-in-all, a wonderful experience and I look forward to the next time I am in Tiburon so that I can explore this store again.

Pretty much everything you can find at a mall you can find on-line (and vice versa) but sometimes you want things you didn't even know you wanted, and they can't be found easily at either of these places. Enter Custom House II. Everything in this small, hidden shop has had a previous secret life, probably in a Belvedere/Tiburon home. A cornucopia of stories hides behind each curio, each antique, each artwork, each thing you didn't know you needed. Until now. I stumbled into CHII recently and made deals on a statement necklace and a small art piece. Deals, you say? Yes, prices are marked and though this isn't Tijuana, the staff here is open to a little haggling over beautiful things and I found that charming. They made some sales, I got a nice deal, everyone was happy. If you're looking for something unique or just like looking, in general, make your way to CHII. Their location is as hidden as the secrets of their wares making it completely different than the usual Black Friday experience.

This was the 2nd antique store I shopped at one Friday in June, and it was a world of difference. I…read morewas greeted warmly and began my very long meandering through all the floors and rooms. It just goes on and on. Really saw some lovely items...and then spied exactly what would solve my need for a recently remodeled bathroom. I went to the cash register area and spoke with the woman about whether the owner of the item (there are several consignors in the shop) would negotiate the price. As luck would have it, the owner/consignor, in from out of town, was just walking in through the front door. We had a lovely conversation, she was totally amenable, and I got my chippy little piece of bathroom furniture. Couldn't have been easier or more pleasant. I'll definitely be back!

The French Market Marin reminds me of the summer street markets in Nice and L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue…read more Not because the items for sale are French, but due to the atmosphere. Hunting through tables overflowing with vintage finds, textiles, pottery, jewelry, and home goods, plus the sport of bargaining with vendors. The French Market Marin takes place on the second Sunday of each month at the Civic Center in San Rafael. Some prices felt too high, but it's free to attend, worth a visit and there were still finds. Parking is also free and plentiful. I found unique vintage silver jewelry at fair prices, and several sellers had priced to sell, or were willing to negotiate. We skipped food stalls, but overall this is a fun outdoor Sunday outing, with shopping, food and even musicians, reminiscent of French vintage outdoor markets, with layers of items set out on tables & sometimes too high prices.
