This is my favorite store to shop for stylish unusual clothes. I'm an artist and sometimes need an outfit that has a little more personality. I went in looking for a dress for my daughter's wedding not expecting to find something. I knew I could drop in over the next four months. When Helen asked me what I was looking for and I told her. She said she had a special room just for those extra special occasions. Wow, if you can't find just the right outfit I would be surprised. I walked away with a beautiful dark blue dressy pant outfit with a drop sleeve that flattered me. In a few months I will go back hopefully after loosing some weight and her seamstress will take it in to fit me perfectly. One of the best women's store in Marin worth knowing about. read more

I purchased an obviously defected dress that was literally coming apart at the seams (I had never worn), but I did not notice till I got home. When I went back the owners insisted rudely that it was the style and look of the dress and said it appears to be worn. It was never worn and the open seams and threads coming loose was not meant to be part of the look. I was treated so poorly and I was so offended by the lack of their care or concern.... just an awful experience!! I did not even ask for a refund... I was asking to exchange and I still can hardly believe how rude they were. There are other stores that deserve your business... AVOID THIS ONE AT ALL COST!!!! read more

Bring your service dog and you will face resistance the moment you walk in the door. Alice, the owner asked that we leave the dog outside despite us showing her his official tag. We said that's illegal so she said we could have him there if we held him. If I wasn't with my mom she couldn't have shopped here. She is disabled and couldn't carry him. I ended up carrying him and sitting on the floor near the dressing room with him. The owner who normally has helped us in the past just made a face and I said so do u want us to leave. And the other sales person Roseanne stepped in quickly and said what can I help you find. She was amazing! So helpful! She found my mom some incredible clothes! They do have really classy and unique styles. My advice: only come in on Saturdays and ask for Roseanne! read more

I had been shopping for a "mother of the groom dress" for over a year (mostly on line due to Covid) I finally went to Alice Beckers and from my very first trip to the store the staff were so friendly, accommodating and honest with me. I think Helen had the ability to see what would look best on me as soon as I arrived. The dress I purchased was one I would have never thought of trying on without her suggestion. My wife bought a defective sweater that was literally coming apart at the seams and she was treated so badly when she asked for an exchange... it was shocking! The woman working there just kept repeating it was made in Italy and that it is suppose to look that way, trying to make us think that it is okay to buy something that could literally fall apart. AVOID this hole and spineless woman. My dear mother (i'm her son) purchased a dress here for my wedding in June. When it arrived several months later it wasn't only the wrong dress, but the wrong size. She paid $800 for it. They offered no explanation for their mistake and offered nothing in return except another more expensive dress that she had no interest in. When she decided that there was nothing in store she liked or that they could order in time she asked them for the dress style number so she could potentially find it somewhere else. Recovering from a spinal surgery and have been cooped up in the house for weeks! Have shopped there before many years ago, but just needed to get out of the house and since I have a high school reunion coming, stopped in on my stroll down Grant Ave. saw some adorable things my tiny daughter could wear and made that comment, as well. I was immediately told that there was plenty of things in the store that would fit me. And so it goes . . . I was brought beautiful dress one after another in different styles and colors with honest opinions on each one. Found my dress! Was just going for a little afternoon walk and some fresh air, and was "fawned over" by the staff. I cannot say enough good things about Helen and all of the wonderful, competent ladies at Alice Becker. I found a dress online for my daughter's wedding but was faced with ordering it without trying it on and no returns. Helen was the only person I talked to that was willing to order the dress, and if it didn't fit, would try to return it to the designer or sell it in her shop. Unbelievable! The dress ended up fitting but needed some alterations. No problem! They have an in-house tailor who was detailed, timely and inexpensive. I visited the shop several times and each time I was greeted with friendly, helpful women. If only I lived closer...I would be in the shop all the time! Thank you Helen and everyone at Alice Becker! Alice Becker is totally unethical and as a small business owner you would think she would care more about her reputation. My mother fell ill with Bipolar Disorder and began to purchase items in a manic state. Despite the fact the I became my mother's conservator, could prove my mother's illness, and that my mother became sick because she was grief stricken that my father had recently died of MS, they would not let me return any clothing that was still packaged in tissue and the tags were still on them, and it was only 3 weeks after the clothes were purchased. My mother could not afford the purchases, but they didn't care, they just wanted their money. The legal system failed me because when I took Alice Becker and 2 other stores to court to get the returns made and try to save my mother's home of 40 years, the judge was a customer of Alice Becker and Alice had her husband represent them. Ultimately the legal system failed my mother. Thank god not all stores were so unethical and without heart, as most of them allowed the returns and some even went out of their way to help. I had to place returns at a total of 13 stores, and all but 3 allowed the returns and felt sorry for my mom's situation. Alice Becker, however, was not one of them. I believe in Karma, and they did not do the right thing. I am not sure how people like Alice Becker and her husband can sleep at night. The truth is that anyone can get Bipolar Disorder and lose everything; it is actually very common (especially with business like Alice Becker around.) I am a Novato native, and I guess that it wasn't enough that I had lost my father after a 30 year struggle with MS, and then lost my mother, and then had to take these people to court to place a return only to lose. Unbelievable. If you want to support greed, shop at Alice Becker. I wasn't surprised to see Kym's review, it reveals the kind of person Alice is and how she treats her customers. I will not support that with my money when there are so many great small business owners who offer great clothes at more reasonable prices. read more

I needed a dress for my niece's wedding and ended up finding the perfect dress thanks to the staff there. I even found a second dress that I will be able to wear for work and play. For months have been searching for a dress to wear to my son's wedding but without success. On Grant Avenue saw the store and decided to go in. Beautiful window displays. Explained my situation to the staff and they were extremely helpful. They kept bringing me dresses to try and I felt like I was at Kleinfeld's in New York! They let me take some photos to show my daughter-in-law to be. Put a few dresses on hold. Still looked around but no store came close to the customer service and unique selection of dresses. The only dress she chose was from Alice Becker. It fit her wedding style perfectly. The staff and Alice were very helpful and kind. The prices are comparable to other stores but the quality is better and the merchandise unique. They have been in business for a very long time and that is a testament to the store. My only complaint is that they don't have a web site and in today's world that is very important. read more
