I needed a nice suit for a wedding and wanted better quality and more knowledgeable service than what I was likely to find at a department or lesser store. I went into LT with little and outdated knowledge, and sure enough, Toni and Brianna couldn't have been more helpful! I told them about the venue and my initial ideas of what I was looking for, they provided guidance from there. The process was entirely comfortable, remarkable given that I hadn't been exactly at-home in a suit previously. I left with a nice Jack Victor suit and a few extras and will be back shortly for a jacket. It is known fact, based on scientific study, that when men put on a Tuxedo there is one question that universally comes to mind: what kind of person could possibly have thought this was a good idea at the time? James Bond and Fred Astaire aside, few men really look comfortable wearing the garment. The reason is they can't avoid the thought that they look nothing like 007 but instead bear more than a slight resemblance to penguins. Whatever, this is where I came to rent one of these for a recent formal event. The process couldn't have been easier, for which I'm grateful to Brianna for the right look: très spiffy. I had always assumed the "Tux" is a sartorial descendant of some sort of work uniform originally worn by waiters, butlers and gentleman's personal aids. As it turns out, after doing a bit of legwork researching this history, I'm more familiar than I could have imagined with its origin. Or to be more exact, I know a bit about the origin of the name itself, this so-called "Tuxedo". Although I didn't know about this at the time, it was originally named for Tuxedo Park, a toney, quite small village in Orange County, NY where wearing one first made it a fashion statement. As to "at the time" it so happens that in another life while living in nyc I got friendly with one who was born there, and spent a few weekends meeting the parents at their stately (being kind here, "gaudy" also comes to mind) mansion inside its spear-gated entry. I didn't wear my Tux on these occasions though, which is likely the only reason things didn't last. There is one thing I do like about this suit, related to its popularity during the depression-era 1930s; perhaps it has occurred to you as well. Throughout this period Americans were a despondent bunch, many were out of work and down to their bottom dollars. But there was widespread hope for better to come. People were attracted to symbols of future posterity, like Fred Astaire movies wherein a stylish everyman lives in elegant settings, wearing a Tuxedo, seemingly all hours of the day. The Tuxedo became very popular during this period, even if you weren't from its namesake village. Thinking on how this style related to the public's wish for better days, I am reminded of something else I am particularly fond of: what came to be known as Streamline Moderne. This was a look inspired by public interest in certain newly developing aerodynamic and industrial objects like airplanes which seemed to portend a chance to move forward out of this depressed period. Streamlining spawned all sorts of architectural and design elements that incorporated the look of getting on ahead into various objects, ones that in many cases would never move an inch: refrigerators, irons, vacuum cleaners, furniture. With the right exterior curves and holes, all were made to appear as though they were going somewhere (in life) fast, or so they were made to seem. Anyway, as to my Tuxedo from Louis Thomas, this went well as could be I returned it the next workday and won't likely need another for quite awhile. Maybe if throw in an Aston Martin and Walther PPK I'd do this more often. read more

Thomas Malvino (store owner) is the rudest person! I visited Thomas Malvino's store to buy a tuxedo for my wedding, wanting to support a local business as a Marin native. I went with my parents, excited to try on tuxedos for the first time. Andrew, a helpful employee, assisted me with measurements and suit jackets. While I was being measured, Thomas, the owner, approached my mother and rudely told her she should go to Macy's, implying that this store was not Macy's. My mother, who speaks little English, initially thought he was joking and complimented the store in her broken English, saying it had better quality suits. I continued trying on suits and found one I liked, but then my mother told me that Thomas had been extremely rude, saying if we weren't buying anything, we should leave. I was skeptical at first, thinking she misunderstood, but my sister confirmed Thomas's rude comments. I decided not to give my business to such a rude store owner. When I told Andrew I was going to keep shopping around, Thomas, in a condescending tone, said, "Of course you are." He wouldn't even make eye contact with me and continued, saying, "If you're not going to buy anything, why did you people even come into the store?" Rather than making a scene, I shook Andrew's hand, thanked him for his help, but made it clear I wouldn't be purchasing a tux from this store due to Thomas's behavior. I don't know if he was rude because we were speaking Spanish but I will no longer shopping here. read more

Magnificent shop, these fine gentlemen will transform your teenager into a fine looking young man dressed to the nines like James Bond or the Kingsman, and during a pandemic! It was almost mission impossible to get our son out of the house and off the Xbox. During the pandemic, almost all teenage boys looked like they were homeless or Moses with quarantine beards - yikes LOL! And Moses was physically an extremely handsome man. Our son actually chose the suit to match his school colors, since they weren't having Prom, it was for Senior portraits. My husband and I were extremely pleased with how dapper he looked. Even our son was surprised looking in the mirror; he didn't realize he can clean up so well. Thomas has a keen eye for exquisite suits and tuxedos. He also has a store in Petaluma. The staff are patient, professional and attentive. Our son's suit was tailored to fit his linebacker size. The transformation was astonishing! I highly recommend buying and/or renting all your fine men's wear at this local shop in Corte Madera and further up North in Petaluma. Such stores are hard to find, and Men's Warehouse doesn't need the business. We rented this time around, as our son is still a growing boy. I will definitely return in the near future to purchase custom-tailored suits for the men in my life. Whether it's a wedding, Prom, graduation, promotion, birthday, Bar Mitzvah, any occasion, Louis Thomas will take care of you. I was just in this store for my husband who has bought many items from this store over the years. When we came in to get an alternation from a tuxedo bought at Nordstrom. They did a previous alteration so we thought ok we would stop there first to see if they could help us again. There was a man named rob looked at the tab and basically dismissed us. Their other employee Brianna was very nice. She deserves a raise for having to work next to the AH that we dealt with. But was super sweet and gave my husband the name of a Taylor. Luckily I already know one and we went there. If you ever need help go see the beautiful Sadie from spotless cleaners. She does an amazing job. Men's stores are a dime a dozen and most of them do not have the best selection of clothes, they are geared to older men with no taste. This store has it all, it is on the expensive side but they have good quality clothes and have a great selection. Joel was a big help and not pushy at all. Probably the RUDEST sales people (or owners?? Hoping owners wouldn't act like this?!) we could ever come across... I wish I could give them zero stars. Came in because my brother is interested in getting a suit for his wedding. They made fun of his wedding venue and they made fun of the color suit he was interested in and totally belittled him. Please don't shop here, there are so many awesome apparel shops to spend your money at where the staff will actually care about their customers. EXCELLENT customer service! We live out of town, ordered a tux for our daughter's wedding. The owner, Tom called us and left a great voicemail assuring me how they could get us all set up in a short time. We went to the Corte Madera store today, even though Tom had said it was no problem to head to Petaluma on Wednesday. Brianna and Al were both working and both helped us pick out a tux for rental, fit my husband perfectly and took such great care of us. We walked out with the rental tux, with sleeves hemmed by Brianna while we took a 5 minute stroll around the beautiful plaza. Highly, highly recommend this store for any men's apparel or tux rentals. The service, professionalism and timeliness went above and beyond my expectations. I rented my wedding tux from them and they were so helpful. Before I went to Louis Thomas, I tried black tux (one of the worst experiences I've had with men's apparel) and Indochino (felt like the fast food of tux/suit buying). Neither place was personable or helpful in guiding someone with limited knowledge to get a tux with the right look and fit. The moment I walked into Louis Thomas, I felt like a friend. Everyone was extremely nice and accommodating as well as knowledgeable, plus they have a high quality selection for the same prices as the online rental options, which were cheap. I got all my questions answered with a professional opinion instead of "it's really how you like it"-Indochino. The only thing I was disappointed with when it came to dressing the men in my wedding was that I didn't have the groomsman get their suits from Louis Thomas. Surprised this place has so many great reviews. Here was my experience. I visited the shop to rent a suit one week before I needed it. It arrived in a few days, but the pant size was incorrect. The gentlemen at the front angrily exclaimed "well, someone f*cked up!", and was aggressive and annoyed with me for the remainder of our exchange. The full suit finally arrived the night before my event, and I had to go out of my way to get it in time. When I returned the suit, I didn't bring the bag it came in with me. The same guy was once again angry and aggressive, and charged an extra twenty dollars for the missing bag, yet didn't point out anywhere in the contract I signed that I was expected to return it. The suit fit fine, but for the price, (more than twice as much as I have paid to rent a very fine suit that fit better) and poor customer service, I imagine you could find a much better deal and experience elsewhere. read more

I've had a wonderful experience at this store. I'm getting married and decided with a few months to go that I'd like to wear something nicer than my standard suit. Rob was my primary salesperson, and he was just phenomenal to work with. He really knows his stuff, he's a great listener, and he helped me pick out a beautiful tuxedo. After ordering, the tux arrived within a week and now alterations are underway. The whole process has been easy and efficient. Tom also weighed in with helping me to evaluate which tux to get, and after it arrived, figuring out the fit of the tux. This isn't a cheap place, but the quality matches the price. The person that answered the phone was so incredibly rude that I wouldn't have believed it if I had not heard it myself. He acted like he was personally offended that we needed a suit for a funeral and we had the nerve to bother him with our request. Luckily, we came across 'Clothes Fit Menswear' in (Ignacio) Novato. The owner of this store treated us with compassion and respect. Clothes Fit Menswear came through for us and did such a professional job that we decided to purchase the suit, in addition to the shoes, belt, shirt, socks and tie. A very good experience here at Louis Thomas. As a reluctant guest at a high-end wedding in San Francisco, I needed a very smart tuxedo very fast. Putting the act off until the last minute (hoping that the wedding would go away) I eventually bit the bullet and arrived at this store one weekday evening. From the moment I explained what I needed, to walking out the door with a complete, perfectly-fitting outfit, I was treated like a prince, given excellent advice, and transported through the measuring and fitting process with absolute ease. Indeed, the person helping me pretty much took one glance and started to come out with what I needed in terms of style and size - and she was 80% accurate before using a measuring tape! Louis Thomas is a small family shop, but they do a great job. They've helped me with tux rentals since I was in high school, and recently they're helping me set up rentals for my groomsmen. The shop is clean and well ordered. Their selection is tailored toward the well-groomed Marin man, meaning they mostly carry high-end brands (for rentals too) and don't bother with cheap clothing that won't make you look your best. I had hands down the worst experience I've ever had with a retailer in my life when renting my son's tuxedo at Louis Thomas. I, very respectfully, shared that I was unhappy with the fit (which was disappointing with jacket sleeves inches too short and a huge collar on his shirt). The older man managing the store proceeded to verbally attack me in front of a store of customers. Maybe he was having a bad day but someone so volatile has no business serving clients. Wow. What a terrible experience. This shop was used for tuxedo rentals for a good friend's wedding. Out of six tuxedos rented, three of them had major flaws. My vest had lipstick stains all over the front and two of the guys received pants that were - no kidding - more than 12 inches off in length. Sadly comical in some ways, but not really on the day of the wedding. Just a major cause of unnecessary stress. To make things worse, the treatment we received from the staff was unreal... rude, unapologetic, and unhelpful. When we went to return the suits, the store was not open on time and we waited outside for 20 minutes until someone finally showed. Terribly run business. Never, never again. read more

Tom and Jessica did a great job in taking measurements for 9 groomsmen, all without an error. ALL our tuxes fit perfectly! I could not be happier with my experience. We rented vests for our wedding at Louise Thomas in Corte Madera. Service was fair when we prepaid. but we got our what we ordered and they were ready for pick up and great quality. Returning them however SUCKED! We got their 15 minutes before the mall closed after calling to let the sales woman know we were on our way. She was rude but that wasn't the bad part. The store had a back in 10 minutes sign on the door with the lights on. After 40 minutes, the mall was closed and still no one was there. We had the security guard call them and ended up leaving them with the coffee shop next door. Then we had to call them to confirm that they had received them. We weren't impressed! read more

Really bad service. Came in on a "busy" day and they didn't help me for twenty minutes because they were tired...there was no one in the store at the time. If that wasn't enough, some not very smart person charged my credit card a ridiculous overdraft that has really messed with my bank statement. I wish I had read these reviews before I shopped here. I recently purchased a gift for a family member for Christmas, but learned Christmas eve that someone else had purchased the same gift for that person. No problem, I thought, I have my receipt, and the gift is still in the bag. Not so! I was back in the store just after New Years and upon trying to return the item, the salesperson pointed to a small sign in the back of the store which stated they only offered in-store credit that was good for just one year. I had looked around the store, but nothing really caught my eye, so I again asked for a refund back on my card. This was flatly denied, saying their policy doesn't allows refunds for returned accessory items such as belts, wallets, cuff links etc. There are plenty of stores in the area that allow returns that offer similar items. The only difference is that the other stores will give you a refund. I always try to support my local businesses, but I would advise anyone to stay away from this one. read more
