In April I bought a second pretty jacket from New Threads in Corte Madera, CA. Both were close to $200 in price. The second jacket, picture attached, was gently worn 4 times before it shredded in TWO places in the back of the jacket. After being out town most of August I returned the jacket on Labor Day to the store requesting that the owner give me a call. That Saturday I receive a US Postal bag with the jacket and the attached letter suggesting that my purse ruined the jacket that I should find a seamstress who might be able to repair it. The evening the jacket shredded, I was hosting a catered dinner party at my home and didn't even have a purse near it. Is this what customer service is today? It will be a long time, if ever, before that store sees me again. read more

This is such a great find I was shopping and ran into New Threads on accident. I'm very excited to have a new & wonderful place to shop. The staff stopped what they were doing to help me. They gave me helpful advise instead of pressuring me into buying everything. They really cared what I wanted. I was very impressed with the style of clothing that was in this store. It was affordable and stylish. This store had a nice family feel to it, almost as if they already knew me. I will be going back again soon and I would recommend this store to anyone in the area!! This is a fun store with unusual styles. I went in late on a Friday evening (no I didn't have any plans) and although I was only looking for a pair of pants for an upcoming trip, the salesperson and I started looking at a lot of other options and combinations. While in the dressing room it suddenly occured to me that it was after closing time and I was keeping this nice woman from her Friday night. When I mentioned that she said not to worry but thanked me for asking. After trying a lot of different items, I still only bought the pair of pants I came in for. You would have thought I bought five outfits the way I was treated upon check out. The salesperson called me by name and welcomed me to come back any time and wished me a fun vacation. read more

I liked this place. I read other reviews where folks said the service was lacking. I did not feel this way. I think that the service just doesn't ooze sugary helpfulness and they don't follow you around, but I like that quality in a store. Anyway, some of their items are too embellished for me, but some of the items are truly unique, and their basics are great. 2 weeks later, I got an email from the owner about the store and my experience. I will definitely go back. I got cool snake printed pants, an awesome hand dyed top and another cool designed button down. The woman who helped me was great. read more

I can't walk into this store without finding something I like and want to own. I am a cashmere fan and they always have a great selection of beautiful wraps and sweaters. Recently, I found one I HAD to have, but they were out of my size and they kindly offered to order it for me. I often shop here and have NEVER found the store's staff to be anything but polite and helpful... I went in the other day when my mother was visiting and she also found (and purchased) several beautiful outfits. I am always impressed by the fact that the store has such a wide range of styles and pieces that appeal to me (age 42) and my Mom (age 62) despite the vast differences in our personal tastes. read more

I will never shop this store again. Today a girlfriend and I drove to Marin to shop at New Threads and lunch near by. We felt like we were being stalked and sales clerks constantly asking if we wanted to try something on. I had not finished my routine of looking at all the merchandise and then returning to what I might want to try or look at further. At that point a grey haired senior sales clerk asked me if I was aware of how tough retail was right now. I said I did. She then proceeded to say to me, "well you aren't trying anything on, so obviously you are not going to buy, so what are you doing here"? I was appalled and taken aback!! I said " my friend and I are shopping and as a matter of fact I was about to try a coat on, but now I am going to my friend, we are leaving this store and never coming back!" No sales person, in any type of establishment (even in a foreign country) has been so rude to me. Maybe they were threatened as I was familiar with many of their labels as I work in a boutique in Sonoma. That does not mean I wouldn't buy at New Threads. After this rude treatment, will never shop there again and neither will my friend. I am only giving a one star as the merchandise is lovely but the employees aren't. read more

Some of the markups in the store are higher than the same item elsewhere. Also, the owner was extremely rude to customers several times. For example, she told a customer who asked where an item was that it was on the table, and when the customer asked again she yelled the same instructions like any idiot could see it -- but the item was mounted above the table by several feet, not stacked on the table like the other items. read more

I love this store. The owner, Geraldine and the whole staff are always nice and welcoming. There is a great selection of clothing and accessories and something for everyone. I love sales and they do sales a few times a year, but I shop there whenever I need or just want something new also. A real find in Marin and also, most of the clothes are made in America which is an added plus. read more

I have no idea what the complaining reviewers are talking about. I have shopped there twice, trying on lots of clothes and looking around to try to compose outfits. Both times not just one, but all three of the women who worked there were very generous with their time...looking for sizes, colors, and styles, offering suggestions, setting up the fitting room, etc. The selection of clothes is to die for and my only complaint is that it's hard not to go over budget because of so many things that look and fit great. I have had compliments galore on the clothes. My friend came with me the second time, and she had the same experience. And both times I went the store was full of shoppers, all enjoying themselves and being treated royally. I just can't imagine how someone would be treated rudely. It is totally out of character with the whole atmosphere of the place. read more

New Threads has a great new look, along with the (always) fabulous collection of clothes! There isn't another beautique store for women like this in Marin. It's exceptional, with timeless clothes. On the positive: this store has unique items that you don't see elsewhere: boutique type uniqueness. Negatives: very expensive. RETURNS HAVE TO BE IN ONE WEEK (that's crazy)!!!! Sometimes the ladies are snooty (some are friendly and helpful...it depends who you get)....I still go there because I don't let that get to me: it's their problem. The majority of clothes are for older women, and are the loose flowey type that hide all the post menopausal unwanted bulges and curves. read more

I love this shop. I think it's my favorite art installation in the Bay Area . Geraldine, the owner/curator has a magnificent eye for color and does a genius job of mixing pricey items with ones that are more moderately priced. I am glad to see her adding more items with the New Threads brand that provide the great quality of name brands at a lower cost. Lots of great sales associates but I Have to say that Trish is my personal shopper of choice. read more

If you want help, they're helpful, if you want ideas, they're brilliant. They really know how to pull an outfit together. Plus the sales are great. I am completely floored at how mean, nasty and rude the woman at this store just treated me and my son. I was in there no more than 1 minute when I hear her yelling at him from across the store to get out of the window... I could not believe it. A simple "please don't stand there, it's not safe" would have sufficed. He is a good boy and would have listened right away. I have no problem with that sort of discipline from a stranger but this was way out of line. I said I would have handled it and she snapped "I don't think you were!" and I said she was rude and she yells "yeah, and I'm proud of it!" WOW. That woman is definitely in the wrong business. She has no right to spread her nasty, negative energy and ruin other peoples' day. read more

If this store did not have such a fine collection of merchandise, I don't see how they could stay in business with their credit-only return policy and their attitude. There is no place like New Threads for a special occasion outfit for my (ahem) demographic. But my dealings with the staff have left me looking for alternatives. Once when I asked about the return policy while considering a purchase of several hundred dollars, the owner shouted across the store that she didn't want me buying anything if I thought I might return it. Several years later I made an honest mistake, misreading a price tag and chatting rather than reading the sales slip as I signed it. When I went back to explain, I was literally mocked for thinking that anything in the store would be the price I had thought that item was (it would have been on their low end, but they definitely carry some items in that range).
