With that said - the experience of shopping there has changed...pretty dramatically. I won't pretend that Carolina was ever a place for a bargain - it's always been a high end store with items that would be considered splurges or even out of the range of possibility (for the majority of people). In the last year, the prices have skyrocketed. What used to be the highest priced item is now the norm. $600 sweaters, $800 slip dresses, etc. Listen I get it, it's Mill Valley and an increasingly wealthier demographic with inflation being insane. But also, this sucks? Your prices have literally doubled. What once felt like an occasional shopping treat now just feels alienating and over the top. The owner / buyers have the best taste in town - if you're reading this, could you please bring back some of the more moderately (reasonably) priced brands? I think a lot of the non ultra elite 2% Mill Valley-ites would be super appreciative and love to support you again. But as of now, it's literally impossible. I tried on a pair of shoes and a dress. My friends also shopped around. This is a very high end shop with New York energy. I loved the dress and bought it. I loved the shoes and as I tried them on asked my friend what she thought, she didn't love them as much as me and the store salesperson said, if you don't love them don't get them. I appreciated that and ended up with just the dress. Well, I happened to be in Mill Valley today and it's been a couple weeks since the event. I went back to see if the shoes were there and if other shoes might also be on sale. As soon as I entered, from out of the back, the same salesperson acknowledged me and literally followed me with his eyes on everything I went near-boots, dresses, pants. He kept commenting on everything and didn't stop. It was really uncomfortable. I really loved a pair of black stacked boots, but at 50% off $658 of last pair in my size, I felt his energy was too much for me just wanting a calm no pressure experience. He didn't move from the counter but just kept watching me and it was just more than I could take.

They used to measure your feet but recently my wife and I just ask for our size. They are very knowledgeable about the shoes they sell. The last time we were there, we bought track shoes for my grandson. They checked his size and he found the shoes he needed/wanted. He wore them all through track season and did well. When we returned he was still helping the same person and said sorry he'd be a while but we could wait. After having already wasted half an hour we decided to leave. He was gruff and unwelcoming. Did not seem to care in the least. Will never return there. Terrible customer service and so unwelcoming. A complete waste of time. !!
