When Macy's starts locking up the Levi's and makes me ask someone to unlock a pair to try them on, I'm out. Retail now sux.

With a mix of consignment clothing and manufacturer samples, MOTC is a small, local shop with an enticing mix of offerings. Even though the consignment clothing would never count as cheap, every piece appears to be in great shape with no evidence of wear. The sample pieces, still sporting manufacturer tags, also sport a huge discount off their recommended sales price. I picked up a pre-worn, stylish fleece from The North Face for $30 and felt that price was reasonable and returned home to tell my son he should check the place out for the sort of outdoor men's pants he likes. The array of offerings is not dissimilar from what one finds at REI, but on a much smaller scale. There's other outdoor stuff here too - including a proprietor with whom one can engage in for everything fishing related. Despite its size, the store features clothes for all ages and genders as well as outdoor equipment. Whether you've outgrown something or just want something new or gently worn, if you're seeking outdoor clothing and like those name brands, MOTC should be on your radar.

For example, a couple entered the store and he immediately welcomed them and offered his assistance in a very low key way. He picked out a coat for the gentleman that he felt would be a good fit. The gentleman was initially surprised by Gerry's suggestion but then he looked at the jacket more carefully and tried it on,. The look on his face was priceless. Likewise, everyone else in the store was smiling. Those moments happen frequently for customers at Sonas Denim. In fact, "sonas" means good fortune or happiness in Gaelic. My first visit to Sonas was also a surprising moment of pleasure, considering I have never enjoyed shopping for clothing. From my earliest experiences, shopping for clothing was as much fun as going to the dentist. In this case, Gerry completely changed my attitude toward shopping and now I look forward to Gerry's assistance with any shopping needs that I have. I've received numerous compliments whenever I wear pieces from Sonas. For high fashion, low pressure, good vibes and affordable prices, I highly recommend shopping at Sonas Denim.

Marin is the Mecca if you are either an ordinary shopper or a reseller in the high-end resale market this is a fabulous cause as well. They dress people who are looking for a new start and help them get professional clothes to go to interviews and such. The donations for the store come from very nice and wealthy donors in San Francisco and other areas of Marin County. The prices here are amazing. I mostly shop for myself but occasionally find something well enough price that I could resell it. They have a five dollar rack where they put everything that hasn't sold in two months. I found some amazing things on that rack today. I also bought myself some lovely things spent more than five dollars of course but not anywhere near the actual value of these designer pieces if you are anywhere near this place, you must stop by and support this wonderful cause.

Wayne, Tom and especially Mitch have always been polite, respectful, helpful and never critical of my casual, unsophisticated--they might say crude--manner of dress, and they never try to nudge me into their pedigreed suits. Perhaps in part because of our shared Asian ancestry, Mitch has been extremely helpful in always finding the right coat, and Franco, the tailor, is most accommodating, swift and accurate in any adjustments required. At my age, eight y seven, I probably will never buy a suit, but I have asked my son to do so, and I am sure he will be perfectly serviced. I don't know why negative reviews show up, but I would suggest that the rudeness they perceive is simply their own unbridled narcissism projected upon a dignified, sinless staff, who seem to be quite forgiving of such entitlement.

Full disclosure, I don't know a thing about Eton and I don't have a husband, but I do work in venture capital and most of my male colleagues comment on how they wish they had a stylist or someone to direct them in all things fashion. So, here we are on a sunny Saturday, grabbing a bite to eat at Poggio (girls brunch) and thought, hey let's see what Gene Hiller is all about. First off, you need an appointment to enter the store. Didn't realize this, nor is it listed on the website or under Google search. Our apologies. That said, were met at the door front entrance by Wayne, who opened the door, asked us to move (as his client was leaving), was told we needed an appointment,... but then ushered into the store, and was told we were lucky that X had an opening. Wayne then briskly walked off while we stood there a bit gobsmacked, feeling incredibly unwelcome. What made matters worse was Wayne walked right up to his next client with such kindness, that I started to think what was wrong with us, did I miss something other than not making an appointment? I'm not sure if it was the intentional rudeness or arrogant dismissiveness that was the sucker punch, but my enthusiasm and curiosity for Gene Hiller quickly faded, and instead of wanting to help foster community and tell my male friends about this treasure trove, I simply wanted to forget any and all things Gene Hiller and the horrible feeling I left with. Complete missed opportunity Wayne Kaleck.
