This review is based on the jewelry department solely. My husband and I went recently to check out their holiday sales and browse. I always like to see the latest styles and compare prices with the jewelry I already own. We waited a little bit to see a case of diamond tennis bracelets, and a worker immediately came to help after helping another customer with a transaction. At first she was really friendly and showing me the bracelets I was interested in. I explained to her I was looking for a bracelet that matches my wedding ring set and earnings, and to show bracelets that can be modified since I have a larger wrist. First thing she asks is where I bought my jewelry. I say my rings were purchased privately and my earrings were purchased at Macy's. I thought she was asking so she could look for reference, but she ended up dissing my jewelry! She asked if my ring set was made of silver....that should have been my sign to run because the experience with her went downhill from there. She went from showing me the diamond bracelets I was interested in to clearance bracelets with no diamonds because they were adjustable...at that point I said to her as nicely as possible it's not what I'm looking for and thank you for the help. Alas it was apparent she just wanted another quick sale. I must say though I hope the jewelry department does better training. I had asked her for prices and carat weight for pieces and she didn't know/bother to check the tags. She would search on the computer or ask a coworker. Which is ok, but she could have said she was unsure before running off without saying anything. Also if you are going to question someone about their jewelry be considerate. I admitted my rings did need to be cleaned, but she didn't even offer a complimentary cleaning (Not sure if this service is still done but most places will clean your rings if you ask). Needless to say I'm going to continue to see my own jeweler, and if I buy any jewelry from Macy's again it will probably be at a different location or online where I can read the information myself. read more

My wallet was stolen and the thief used it at Macys. I was nearby so I stopped in store went to the customer service counter and notified them that someone was fraudulently using my card (I showed the email of the declined 4 attempts!). The sales women tried to help but when management got involved it's like I was nothing. They didn't bother helping just sent me to the mall security. No wonder this store is only 3 stars and empty. The WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE! Literally just left Macy's men. I was looking to buy a last minute suit I need ASAP and asked the two women at the men's suit and dress shoe counter for help (Older Middle Eastern Women and Younger Heavyset Blonde Women). They both looked at me and said no they can't help me... Hello ladies I'm looking to spend $$$. I would've easily dropped $650 on a full suit, dress shirt and shoes. But, you were too lazy or too dumb to help. Doesn't Macy's need the sales they are closing stores across the US, probably due to employees such as these two fine women. Whatever you do, do not get a Macy's credit card. I have a disputed credit card balance for over 2 months. At 1 time I spoke with a supervisor who quickly found the problem and applied the proper payment to my account. I thought it was resolved. 2 weeks later, I getting calls for overdue payment with interest and late fees AND I ammm no longer able to reach a live person on any of their "customer service" numbers. I looked on the back of the statement which directs me toSEND A LETTER TO RESOLVE THE DISPUTE AS IF IT WERE 1990. This has been a most frustrating experience. read more

What a dreadful place. Went there with my son to get him some clothes and, with an armful of items for him to try on, were informed by an employee that ALL fitting rooms were closed. So we went into the handicapped bathroom stall to have room for him to try the stuff on. After separating the wheat from the chaff, we found some more items to try. We returned to the bathroom but some guy was taking a dump in the stall we'd been using. It stank in there so we just headed to the counter and bought the few items we were happy with. As a former Macy's employee (sales clerk, manager, group salesmanager and buyer) I am appalled at the condition of the Macy's Oakridge store. The floor is a mess with clothes strewn everywhere. Merchandising is non existent and the fitting rooms are full of prior customers clothes. When I worked there we were considered a high-end department store. Now I cant think of any budget store that doesnt look better than this. No wonder my 30-something children tell me that their friends no longer patronize Macy's. What happened? Has management given up on sales? Get it together or change your entire management team. My salesperson was courteous but completely overwhelmed. read more

Macy's as a store is a complete joke. I've worked my fair share of trades in the service industry. Server, cashier for a food truck, receptionist, admissions coordinator, manager ... I cannot for my life understand how Macy's can hire and hold onto staff that are so completely blinded to their own products/inventory and manners. I've been put in so many situations and I can't for my life remember me ever yelling at my customers. Has my voice raised a bit? Yea, it happens. Do I yell at them like they're my grand children about to eat throw mud on my vintage sofa? No. This lady frustrated me so much my brain blocked out her name entirely. For whatever reason, she was placed in the men's shoes section. There are people specifically stationed in certain places and this lady was put there for x amount of time for .. what feels like 0 reason. She has 0 knowledge in terms of shoes. You know what? There are a lot of shoes. She doesn't know Cole Haan? Who cares - not everyone knows every brand. What did she do that bothered me so much? In order: 1. did not want to look up the item we're looking for even after showing her the mobile site with the item specifically. 2. did not want to look it up due to not recognizing the brand/item 3. did not want to look up the item - we asked her to look up a random color/size just so we can find it in store at any store nearby - and she snapped back saying it would take forever. 4. after i told her not to look up EVERY single one, just one color/size - she snapped back saying it would take too long yet again but with 'tude and a look. 5. gave attitude while looking up the item. I had to turn around and find the first person I could find that's a staff member - AKA some guy putting up a shelf - i don't even know if he's in retail (cashier/sales) in that way. Woman, I had to pinpoint the first staff member to ask them to immediately call me the supervisor of just men's shoes or the entire dept or floor due to such HORRIBLE, inexplicably horrible behavior. The supervisor herself had to assist us. Thanks to Noah for being a trooper and going above and beyond to help us find the shoes - that were in the back - in inventory - even if it just came in and someone who works with inventory all the time had no idea it existed. read more

She was all alone, had multiple customers & phone calls yet still very helpful & focused on all of us! Really rare to see this level of old-fashioned customer service any more! This particular mall in general has improved drastically, in terms of what it has to offer. Back in the day, Nordstrom used to be the main attraction here, but they left this mall many years ago. I can't say that Macy's is the main attraction, but it does draw in much more business than Sears. One thing I did notice was there wasn't very many sales people on the floor. That is like a double edged sword right? When you need help, NO one is around. When you DON'T need help, everyone is trying to help you, AND they will try and push you to apply for a Macy's card. Based on my visit, everything was in order, and not once was I ever approached by a sales person. I didn't mind, because I knew exactly what I was looking for. The gal that rang me up was friendly, but she didn't have to do much to get credit for the sale. Scan a couple of items, and then take credit for sale you had absolutely nothing to do with! Now that's an easy gig! LOL Conclusion: Located in one of the busier mall in San Jose - Parking is an issue - Sales people are scarce. "I'LL BE BACK" (Only if I am already in the mall. I wouldn't make a special trip out to this Macy's. You are better off going to Valley Fair.) read more

I met this wonderful girl at Macy's. She was buying clothes and I was putting Slinkies on the escalator -- Steven Wright Last time I shopped here I thought I scored an awesome deals $190 worth of clothes for $90 with Macy's card. Score one for me, right??!! Until a factory collapsed in Bangladesh, 1,000 people died, and I honestly began looking at where my clothes came from. Now being a pretty basic guys guy, most of my casual clothes comes from LL Bean, Patagonia, Timberland, Eddie Bauer and REI. These are all responsible companies who, with the exception of Eddie Bauer, generally score very well socially and environmentally (Eddie Bauer is ranked in the Top 4 on Green America's list of Socially Responsible clothing companies but they only receive a C- in the labor category). But on the business clothes side, while I have some pants/shirts from Eddie Bauer, most of my "nice" attire comes from Jos Banks (scoring 32% lower than most companies at Good Guide) and Macy's which because of the corporation's lack of efforts in regulating the factories making it's clothes easily scores D's and F's across the board. Who knows what someone had to endure just so I could get some nice clothes and a cool belt for $90. It's not worth it. I'm shifting all my future purchases to clothes retailers who make their materials in a responsible fashion. I do not mind spending a little more for the privilege. Furthermore, the way Macy's turned shopping into just another cheap discount activity, shopping here is nothing special except for the price which I guess is the point. I'd rather be defined by something else though. The employees here are nice although you rarely see any on the sales floor. They are just cash clerks now, not retail professionals. Another casualty of the "Wal-Marting" of America. Check out the Better World Shopping Guide, the Good Guide online site and Green America Responsible Shopper Guide. Great deals, you should know what to buy and when to buy. The best recommendation I can give you is that when a cloth that you love is new do not buy it right a way. Wait for 2 month and you can buy it at a fraction of the original price. Also at this time of the year register for thanks for sharing (if you buy a lot from macys). Last year I got near $300 back from Macys. The original cost of sharing program is only $25 so I saved a lot. read more

I've been a loyal Macys customer for over 15 years and for the most part I have been content, but over the last couple of years, the service at this particular location and Valley Fair have gone downhill. Some of the people they hire are not at all helpful, and on many recent occasions, these employees act like they do not want to be there. My rebuttal for their actions is that if you don't want to be there, get a different job. You obviously are not happy in that store, and you make it miserable for customers like to me who actually want to shop there. When you ask them a question, they act like we are imposing on their time talking with each other. As a result, I have transitioned much of apparel shopping to Nordstroms, and I have been amazingly happy with their outstanding service. Now that Nordstrom Rack is open at Oakridge, and we have Nordstroms at Valley Fair, I have other choices for shopping. read more

This review is for the jewelry department. I bought a Movado watch for my wife on 12-27-21 at 7pm and when I asked to size it for her the older lady working in that department told me she's too busy and that she closing now to go ask the other guy because she by her self. Macy closes at 8pm it was 715pm when I asked her to size the expensive watch I just bought there. When I asked the other older man there he told me to ask her because that her side. No body in there want to help me they just ignore me and told me to come back tomorrow even though I live in a Morgan hill. I've gotten watch sized there before it takes about 10 to 15min the most. Ridiculous that after buy an expensive piece of jewelry no one want to help me out. Poor customer service in that department! read more

This store wasn't awful but it didn't seem as though anyone was keeping things in order. It's not a bad Macy's... it's just not the best around. I waiver between 3 and 4 stars. I do prefer that everything here is in one store, vs the valley fair split store (cuz dang... it's a long way if you need to go to both!). Usually, I'm here for cosmetics. That's a quick easy stop. I get from lancome and mac, so i when i need both, i head to lancome and they go get the other things i need (i'm told the reverse doesn't work... mac can't fetch from other counters). mac folks can get a little grumpy about that... they must work on commission. they're not super friendly there anyway. if i need just mac, i like the store at VF better. kids: this department is terrible. really, couldn't get a worse selection if they tried. it's a total waste of time, every time. mens: not bad at all. i can usually find what my guys need here. laid out well, easy to get through. customer service in this dept tends to be the best in the store... not sure why. shoes: selection is ok. service can be painfully slow. but that seems true of all macys. if they're busy, good luck finding anyone to fetch shoes. prepare to stay... it's gonna be awhile. read more

I tried to return an item in the fragrance area, and the worker Anh refused to help me despite the fact that the item was unopened and with an original receipt. There was nobody else in line which led me to feel I was being racially discriminated against. I emailed the Macy's GM and never got a response. And Anh is still working there. No wonder Macy's is dying company, the customer service is horrible. Came here to do an exchange because their website shipped me the wrong item. I'm closest to the Westfield Valleyfair location, but they didn't have the product in stock... Anyways, in my history, I've never had good experiences with Macy's in the Bay Area (Macy's in Hawaii, however, is great). This Macy's first off had an incompetent cashier who not only didn't know what to do but also didn't have authorization anyways probably. I immediately asked for a manager to which one was difficult to find. Eventually, the manager came and squared it away, but all of this took 25 minutes to complete, for an exchange. I'd never come back here again unless it was a desperate situation again, hell I was even skeptic of coming here in the first place for the very thing that ended up happening! read more

Macy's has a problem with their credit department I owe no money but after talking to them about it and then excepting the fact that it needed to be adjusted telling me not to worry they did not make the adjustments apparently when they did make the adjustments they forgot to remove the credit protection fee causing my account to become delinquent they reported on my credit report that I was delinquent I contacted them and again they said we're sorry following month everything was fine but it happened all over again and again I got another strike on my credit I contacted the department that reports to the credit bureau's and they said well you had a balance so it's your problem you didn't pay it. how can I be negatively affected for money that I never owed? I have to take them to court now read more

This is for Macy's Oakridge. This Macy's is really hit or miss. Sometimes we have wonderful customer service, especially in the shoe department. Other times, particularly in watches, you can stand and wait forEVER. Unfortunately, you never know what you are going to get. I remember when Macy's used to have like, you know, sales associates to help you in the fitting room and all that. Not so much anymore. Sign of the times I suppose. The selection is decent in the women's dept and the shoe dept. The children's dept is ok, mens is lacking. The clearance racks are usually well stocked:) Home dept isn't all that great though. Like I said, this is a hit or miss location. Give them a shot. You may be pleasantly surprised or underwhelmed.... read more

Im here at Macy's on Black Friday. The store is very nice and kept clean. The reason I am not leaving more stars is because I've asked for help three times from different departments and the employees are moody. I usually avoid Oakridge like the plague, however it was on my way to something and I desperately needed new makeup (mac, chanel & dior).. so Macy's was the place to go to get it all in one swoop. Once I entered the Macy's I stood around for not joking 25 minutes waiting for someone to help me. Both the Dior and Chanel counters were empty and I asked a girl at the Clinique counter if she could help me. She said she was going on her lunch. Okay then... Finally when someone helped me, they were out of the color concealer that I wanted AND the mascara type that I wanted. Didn't even make it to the Mac counter out of sheer frustration. Poorly staffed & poorly stocked. Reminded me of why I avoid Oakridge and Macy's. Nordstrom had the service and the items I was looking for. read more

I still think this is a good department store. It's been around for a while. They have good deals on clothes for adults and kids especially when there is a sale. I bought these soft athletic shorts for my son here and it was his ultimate favorite shorts that he wore every day all summer long. They have perfumes and colognes that are popular gifts. I like their shoe selection too. Great place for Christmas's shopping. I took my sister shopping here and she found a really cute dress in the clearance section and it's price was an amazing deal! read more

I recently visited the fine jewelry department in Oakridge mall Macy's and bought jewelries. Ana helped me with the purchase and showed me all options for which I asked. Ana is a super nice and very helpful lay. I spent over 45 minutes browsing different sets and she did a great job presenting them. She has extensive knowledge over jewelries and is very passionate. Thank you Ana for the great service. I'll definitely revisit this Macy's and highly recommend the fine jewelry department. read more
