Admittedly, it's been a bit bleak visiting retailers within malls. This visit, though, things are looking up here at Macys. The store was well-stocked, lots of choices and selection, displays that showed care and pride. Service was friendly and helpful and they had associates within each section. There was a nice feeling browsing and eventually purchasing items. I always have nostalgia shopping here at this location, built in 1977 and this was a Hudson's store. Yes, that magnificence is but a memory. Mall shopping was a destination back then. I would still like to see and feel Macys rise up from some down years. 12 oaks is a beautiful mall and still a wonderful place to visit. I am happy to see Macys rejoining and having renewed energy. The last time I was here with my husband back in October 2016 to pick up my final dress for a wedding, we strolled around while we were in town. The customer service workers were extremely rude and unprofessional, made a big mess without following up on what we picked. The dress was beautiful but the material wasn't the best! My parents came with us to recheck something; nothing else was available. No one deserves to get disrespected or be mistreated like an animal! Everything turned out downhill from this shore! We decided to do some shopping and had to go through the men's suits section to check out. The cashier (Ali) immediately had attitude because he had to get up from his personal phone call to check us out. Then he complained that we didn't take the hangers off the clothes fast enough. He then refused to check out our items that were not from the suits department. Finally when the total came up, the system asked if I wanted to round up and make a donation he had the audacity to hit "yes" and force a donation on my transaction! That was so uncalled for; it was not the amount of money, but the fact that he took away my financial consent. He didn't understand why that was a problem. Then he argued and denied he did it. I watched him AND shows up on the receipt. I told him, No this is not ok. He continued to argue until a group of other associates walked by that he asked what you want me to do about it? I said you need to cancel the entire order and redo. NO MEANS NO, no matter the context. No one has the right to spend your money or assume your consent without your permission! read more

Today I went into Macy's to look for a holiday item for some family members and I decided to go with a tried and true classic, the legendary Lancôme. This brand has been a family favorite and staple for decades due to the high quality. I was fortunate enough to meet an absolutely lovely Lancôme associate named Monique. Now I wasn't sure what I should get so I asked Monique for some help and she delivered. I was shown the whole collection of perfumes and introduced to a new fragrance called Idol. Monique went over the scent profile with me and I knew it would be a good match for a great gift. It is an Eud de Perfume which means that the scent will have a higher concentration of the perfume oil and ingredients and will be an overall higher quality product. I enjoyed the opening and mid of the scent and from my knowledge or perfumes could tell that this would have a lovely sillage that while strong wouldn't be too over powering. I then asked about their genefique skin care line and again Monique brought her A game and explained to me all of the benefits of the face cream that I thought would make a great gift. I was impressed by her depth of knowledge and pleasant positive personality. They were offering their holiday gift sets which included a wide variety of Lancôme products with purchase for $79 which is an insane value for what you're getting as the products are not just sample sizes. I enjoyed my visit very much and really appreciated how Monique made the shopping experience a fun one. read more

No sells people in clothing departments. Only in shoes, cologne. You better make sure when you purchase an item that you really want it, if you live far away. They don't answer the phones, and it's very deserted everytime we've visited. The selection of clothes is OK. But I'd shop Fairlane instead. This used to be a place that I spent a great amount of time in shopping, going to their restaurant, buying frozen yogurt. We did our wedding registry here, bought so many outfits, makeup, perfume, etc....and now it is all just a distant memory for me. I came here looking for dresses for my daughter. Nothing here seemed organized. I remember departments used to be labeled and it was easy to navigate the store. Now, I had to rush around several floors evening trying to locate the junior dress section or formal dress section in general. All of the clothing seemed to be thrown around and scattered around the different departments. The selection was very sparse and the items left did not seem to be in good condition even though they are being sold as new. We found absolutely nothing to try on let alone purchase. This was not the only department that looked messy, cluttered, and disorganized. Throughout the entire department store racks were fairly messy, many items were missing, the shoe department had random boxes stacked upon each other making it very hard to shop for any one particular shoe. I do understand we are facing a shortage in both stock and employees. It must be very tough for big store like this. But I would also hope that a store with this type of reputation could take a little time to straighten up to assist customers in searching and finding the available stock. I am not sure my child would come back to this store again since there are so many more out there that appealed to her more. Furniture Department Sales persons: Fannetta Watson and furniture store manager: Scott Juzswik Were notified of damage. Was told 2 weeks or so after delivery (mind you it's the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays) that they will pick up damaged on delivery furniture and credit me and then RE charge me after writing it up, or offer "undisclosed compensation amount", get the furniture now (both options do not offer furniture for sitting on now and order and delivery will take up to 3 months) and bill once furniture is done. Neither option offer the company just ordering non damaged items and replacement while leaving billing (paid in full) and current furniture to sit on - not only for daily living circumstances, but especially during holidays after waiting since JULY (it's now DECEMBER) for furniture. If I could - I would give a ZERO -0 for this review. read more

This is my go to Macy's, since it's the closest one. It has three floors, and they just started selling furniture on the third floor. This Macy's has everything you need in a Macy's. I feel like if you need to use the rest room in this mall, this Macy's is where you want to go. It's the cleanest, and isn't ever busy, so you can take you time. read more

I had low expectations of being able to find decently priced merchandise, even after reading the reviews and well, my expectations were exceeded. In the menswear department, I absolutely found a number of clearance items and lower priced polo shirts, button down shirts and even ties. Surprising. The shelves and the displays in menswear needed help. Overflowing, not stacked neatly. Dripping over the edges. Just unprofessional and not what I would expect for a Macy's. Finding someone to ring up my purchases was challenging, but once I did find an open register, it was quick and I was charged the right amount. I had great luck with Macy's finding a pair of shoes for my wedding dress but struck out with two teens who were looking for dresses for the wedding. There was a huge selection of long and short dresses to fit any style and budget, we just didn't love anything as much as what we had found at Lord and Taylor a bit earlier in the day. I had the MOST horrible experience ordering furniture from Macy's. In December, I went in to order a sectional for my first home I bought all on my own. I was getting a great deal and was told it would arrive in January - perfect. I selected the IN STOCK color of the sectional in order to expedite the process instead of the CUSTOM color I actually wanted. I place the order - which is well over $2000 - and wait for confirmation email. Don't get it for days ... I have to contact them over and over again and of course their phone number redirects you constantly to avoid you having to speak to an actual person. I get my email finally after hours on the phone. Hours after getting my confirmation email, I get another email saying my sectional is delayed until February. I was frustrated, but I understand there are back ups from covid. The email also stated that once the item arrives at the warehouse, I will be contacted to schedule a delivery. The day before my sectional is expected to arrive in February I get another email saying it's delayed until March.... now I'm starting to get irritated. I call customer service and they say over and over "there's nothing they can do". I don't know about you, but when I worked customer service for years there was always something you could do. I felt really defeated and upset that I wasn't even offered a discount or a refund on my shipping (which was SO expensive) and I am now 2 months without somewhere to sit in my home. Obviously this means I can't invite my family or friends to come see my place because I can't offer them anywhere to sit. On March 8, the expected arrival from the email, I call and ask if my sectional arrived to the warehouse. The woman on the phone was so rude and said there was no way for her to know that. What??? Why would you not know if my item with an item number and (I'm assuming) tracking info on the retailer's end not be able to access whether or not it arrived. She said to call back tomorrow because 1000s of pieces of furniture come at a time. I am extremely pissed off and now worried that I am not getting this anytime soon since there is so much miscommunication and lack of organization going on. I call back the next day and was asked by the agent "why would you think you could call to schedule a delivery the day after it's expected arrival?" UMM, I DON'T KNOW, MAYBE BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT THE EMAIL SAYS??????? I explain to her that if it states that I should expect an email after arrival on a certain date, and it's after that date, why wouldn't I assume that? She laughs at me as if I'm an idiot and says "it doesn't work like that- you would be able to schedule it 10-14 days later." I was so offended and explain that if a customer shouldn't expect a call on the day it arrives, then it should say when to expect it. She claims "no one has ever confused this before so I don't know what to tell you". Really nice customer service. Frustrated and upset I ask to speak to a supervisor and explain how I was treated and how I'm now over 3 months past my order date and it is starting to get ridiculous how delayed this is. She offers me 10% off... that barely covers my tax I paid on this. Two weeks later I get another email my sectional is delayed until late June. At this point I burst into tears because it's clear that this is never going to happen and I wasted months on my life stressing about a garbage company with garbage customer service. I call to speak to someone who again says "nothing I can do" and I decide to cancel my order and place one on Wayfair. Guess what? I receive it 7 days later. I truly regret ever having considered giving them money. It is clear why they are going out of business all over the country - they have poor management, shitty manufacturing, no organization, lack of communication to customers and the ABSOLUTE WORST CUSTOMER I have ever experienced. read more

This past week I was apart of a 1:1 makeover contest for the Dior counter. This was a great event to get familiar with products i have never used before. Andre was the makeup artist I had and he did a great job. Loved the look he did for my eyes and I've been replicating it ever since. These associates have a real knowledge of the products they're using. I wasn't planning on buying anything but after my makeover was done I bought 3 of the products. Dior has an amazing spray foundation that has phenomenal coverage and lasts for hours. I also purchased the perfect cat eyeliner. It has a pointed sponge as the applicator so they shape is right every time. This product is amazing and always gives a clean, smooth line. Finally I bought the lash booster which does exactly that. Again, this is a great event and I bought some great products that I wouldn't have bought otherwise. The sales associates are pleasant and can definitely make a sale. read more

Omgoodness!!! We just had theeee best dinner ever!!! First of all, the 2 hostesses Jazmine W. & Marya M. Are the best hostesses! They remembered me from being at their restaurant earlier in the week! They're so cute, fun,funny & So kind! They have the best smiles, along with our wonderful caring waitress, Martinique!! In coming back to finish this review, I wanted to let you know how our experiences have been with this Macy's in Novi AND also the Macy's in Westland Mall! They both are great "lakeshore Grilles" and the wait staff is wonderful! In Westland, we have had "William" the waiter, who works part time there but also full time at a major hospital in the area! He is the best waiter and we've known him for over 20 years now! We go to Macy's for the food and the waitstaff, the hostesses etc. William knows just what to get for me and my husband, before we even ask for it! At the Novi Macy's, we don't have a certain waitress, but the manager came out to talk to me about the rudeness of the janitor who "kicked" me out of the ladies room, so he "could clean " it! She gave me the number and name of the persons to call regarding these cleaning staff that are not part of the Macy's employment, they are hired out! We do enjoy going to the twelve oaks Novi restaurant too; because those Hostesses were and are so kind and remeber our names and we just talk to them and they talk to us and we enjoy it and the food so much! Especially in October , this month is "October fest" and they have the jagersnitzl which is a mushroom gravy over veal breaded and melts in your mouth! It comes with red cabbage and some spaetzel , which are German noodles and the whole delightful meal is at both of these locations and just as equally tasty and delicious at both locations also. read more

Wow, Macy's really has gone downhill. The place look like a dump today. The clearance racks were stuffed like crazy. There was clothing on the floors and clothes were strewn everywhere. I don't know if the store is worried about going out of business because there were far more summer clothes there, that I'm guessing they still wanted to get rid of, then fall or winter clothes. I'm rather surprised to see that this Macy's has such a low overall rating. Honestly, in many ways, I prefer it to my local Macy's store, which seems to have cornered the market on apathetic customer service in certain departments. I found this one to be a little different in that respect, plus I liked the extensive number of designer brands that this store has over some of the other Macy's stores around. I think the selection of men and women's clothing is markedly better than some of the Macy's I've been in lately. I've shopped here a few times and never found the store to be in disarray or anything like that. I guess my experience with this Macy's store was a bit different than the norm. I was here again this spring and the salespeople at the cosmetic counters were very attentive, handing out free product samples to me without hesitation. If I had a question, they were there with an answer almost immediately. In my opinion, the housewares department was much nicer than the average Macy's and certainly better run than the one in my hometown. Did I require much in the way of customer service? No, I knew what I wanted and found it, but I didn't have to hunt around looking for a sales associate to ring up my sale, either, which is something that happens more often than not at my local Macy's store lately. I thought the displays looked nice and everything seemed in order when I was there, so I don't if that is the norm or the exception to the rule. Another thing I've noticed here- this store had much better sales and clearance sections in every department compared to the Macy's in my town. They never have great sales, anymore. While this store has a huge stock of clothing, it is a disorganized pit with no sense of merchandising. Clothes are strewn on the floor, over racks and it looks worse than any bargain store I've ever seen. Walmart & Meijer have more respect for clothing than Macy's. I wish this could be blamed on the pandemic, but my experience was the same at the Okemos, MI store several years ago. So disappointing. With store experiences like this, why shop at Macy's? I'm not from Detroit, originally. But there was a time in my childhood when boxes from Dayton's (the Minneapolis version of Hudson's, it was called the Dayton-Hudson Corp at the time) meant something. Sure, you knew there were clothes in the box, and that was something less than a toy or cool electronical doohickey. But you could take solace in the fact that it was decent clothes you wouldn't be embarrassed to be seen in. I grew an affinity for Hudson's during my first stint in Detroit for many of the same reasons. I was somewhat dismayed when it became Marshall Field. But the clothes were still somewhat okay and you knew they'd take care of you if you needed to return something. Then it became Macy's, and I still can't get behind it. For some reason, there's 150 years of cache behind the name. But the clothes have become meh and the customer service is nearly inept. To illustrate, the woman and I went to this location to make some holiday returns. The first clerk informed us that we had to make all of returns in the department from which the article came. That meant standing in at least two other lines. The second clerk was more interested in telling people her line was closing then listening to us say we were returning things, then tried to charge us for them. She then chastised us for her mistake for a couple of minutes. The third clerk was really nice, and when a tag was missing of of one of the items needed to complete the return, she went and found the item and completed the return. That saved them from a 1-star, profanity laced tirade. But outside of baseball one out of three isn't that good. And to end on a bright note, I walked out able to use my store credit to obtain enough blue jeans to transition my work wardrobe from business casual to semi-hipster. Which means I don't have to think about this ordeal again for another 362 days or so. read more

Macy's, especially this location, feels like the ninth circle of hell to me. No matter the day, time, season; a visit to Macy's in Novi is a grating experience to say the very least. Shopping for clothes in department stores is already confusing and annoying enough, but throw in the fact that this Macy's makes their shopping floor feel like a maze and I'm one unhappy customer. The shoe department is just ok in my book, I much rather hit up Nordstrom's for their shoe selection and service. I once received such horrid service in this shoe department that I wrote a page and half letter in response to a customer service survey that was randomly sent to me. Oddly enough, I did get a phone call from a store manager who apologized half-halfheartedly and gave a whole laundry list of excuses for the staff, department and so on...I'm not sure what else she said, I erased her voicemail half-way through as I was done with sorry excuses for what was just a plain horrible experience in a sad department. I feel like the cosmetics counters here are the store's only saving grace, as the cosmetics staff I have encountered here are actually nice and willing to help. This particular location did undergo a big renovation a couple of years back, so now this store is still just as hell-ish but brighter and whiter! Oh and the worst part?!?!? The taste bar upstairs on the third floor. It seems like they recruited their staff from Heaven's waiting room! The ladies there, bless their octogenarian hearts, provide the slowest service I have ever experienced. Most of the time they seem somewhat ok, despite they're snail paced service, but once in a while you will get that sassy, old and a little bit condescending octogenarian lady who needs to explain that their cold, boring sandwiches are made daily (except that they look like they were made two days ago!). After each visit, I say "that's it!" ...Yet, I keep on returning to this Macy's every few months because I'm a masochist and I'm a sucker for their frozen yogurt that they serve here. read more

I did not see one employee try to clean up the women's or juniors section. I feel its very disgraceful for this store to carry on in this manor. I should not have to walk over piles of clothes. I've been here twice and both times I've been in the jewelry department and had terrible customer service. The first time I was blatantly ignored at the counter waiting to look at rings. I waited 10 mins before leaving and not once was even looked at. Thought maybe it was just that one employee but went back and looked at watches. This time I was spoken to, again no greeting or smile, but was demanded to go wait in their line with a rude tone. As someone who works with customers at my own job, this was terrible service. Just went to Macy's in the Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi and I'm totally disgusted at the state of the store. It's like shopping at a flea market, odds and ends all crammed into messy racks with clothes all over the floor. The staff can't bother to vacuum the floors or pick up trash, and the floors are so filthy your shoes become sticky walking out of the store. There was even what appeared to be vomit in the corner of one of the aisles. The staff need to step up and take care of the store. I shopped at the Macy's in Novi, Michigan in May, 2013. While the clothes selection in the Men's suits and sports coats department is excellent, the service is poor. I read the other reviews written on the other departments of this Macy location and they all speak of either poor service or low morale. This probably speaks of poor hiring practices or bad management. In any case I found the service provided by the salesmen as the worst I've seen if not racist. I asked a question of a salesman and he walked away saying he was busy helping someone else. He never returned to answer my question while I waited off to the side. The salesmen at this location are my age in their 50's or older and seem like burnt out refugees from Men's clothier stores that went out of business probably due to their lackluster attitudes. read more

When I need to go to a Macy's, this is usually the location since it's nearest me. The shoe department gets chaotic at times. Especially on weekends. If it's a sale and it's a weekend, forget about getting service. Just go in the back to look for the shoes you want. No one will notice. The clothing sections are usually well organized, but there aren't many associates to assist. I mainly see them at the registers checking out customers. read more

Good news! Macy's now carries the Carol's Daughter brand or natural hair and body products. For any who are not familiar, Carol's Daughter makes fabulous hair creams and oils that will make anyone's hair healthy and shiny, with the addition of fresh clean or fruit scents. Guava, grapefruit, and passionfruit included in my fav product, Tui Hair Smoothie could not smell any better if you blended them up yourself. Men are not neglected either, the line includes men's facial cleansers and lotions... Love their stuff because they keep the emphasis on 'natural' products. read more

This is a pretty big Macy's, they have lot's of options and I typically receive good service when I come here. Their restrooms are very well maintained and clean. It took me a long time to discover their restaurant in the upper level. It's surprisingly good and perfect when you want a tasty meal. Came to Macy's to buy luggage for an upcoming trip. The associate working in the luggage department was very helpful and offered assistance right away and answered any questions I had. Luggage is on the third floor and it was very hot up there. We went downstairs to sit and cool off and grab a drink in the Starbucks Cafe while deciding and mulling over my purchase but it was closed for renovations. So we went back upstairs to the Taste Cafe that serves Starbucks. They were pretty limited since they weren't an actual Starbucks, so you can't order a tall and grande was only available, and they couldn't make it light since they don't have sugar free syrups but the cashier still offered to make it with nonfat. I purchased a cookie and she gave me a discount I think on one cookie for $1, but for some reason it was going to cost $3.00 for 2 cookies. After taking a coffee break, I returned to the luggage department. The associate was still there to help with any questions and patiently waited while I was making my purchasing decision. When I was rung up, the cashier gave me a 15% off coupon without even asking for it. Excellent service, good selection but uncomfortable temperature and the Cafe situation could have been a little better. read more
