From ladies' designer clothes, shoes, bags, belts and even fancy jewelry is available and sold as pre-loved items. We were able to buy a dress for as low as $8. As first time customers, they ask if we would like to share our name and phone number to track their regular or frequent shoppers. I was given a $5 coupon that can be used on our next visit. Pre-loved items are in very good condition, sometimes a tag is still attached to it from the original store. Clothes Mentor smells so good that it sets your mood to shopping therapy mode ;-) They accepts cash or credit card payment. I could have given a 5 star rating however some of the staff were very insensitive to walk-in customers, most especially to those who don't speak or understand English at all. I saw the expression on their faces the dismay when an elderly customers ask and they seem to be not so helpful. You could hear the same answer like "whatever is out there is what we have". Also, some of them choose to greet whoever they want to greet that day. Very much commend one the clothes specialist working there named Linda, she was very polite, engaged in a conversation, and smiling the whole time. Lots of parking. I came here to sell some of my clothes that I didn't even take the tag off , the white haired lady was extremely arrogant and rude if she is the business owner she doesn't deserve any business if she is an employee she should be fired in the spot.She yelled at us while "giving the instructions" as if we aren't understanding what she was saying. This Clothes Mentor is vast in selection and has incredible finds since the move to its newest location. Prior it was very hit or miss. Now it's almost always a hit. Most prices are reasonable for curated resale and the brands they carry. Some stuff can seem high still, especially upper end brands or if something is NWT, regardless of brand. If you usually go to thrift stores, some stuff may seem pricy for used. But it's usually in better condition since they don't take in everything that comes their way. And it's 90% brand name, versus discount store stuff, though some target, tjmaxx and old navy slip through if it's a style they feel will sell. I do think they take in "name" stuff like lululemon that has more wear or older styles just because of the name. While other brands, they strictly use date codes and won't take if it doesn't look close to new. Kinda interesting. One note: if you sell to them, you likely will have a few hour wait. And be prepared to be in shock at the prices you get offered. They are up front about this saying they pay you 30% of what they will sell if for and then they sell at a large % off retail. But this is how they can stay in business. So It's a good way get rid of stuff you want gone but you won't make a huge some of your money back from selling. They know what sells and they know how to buy low to sell as they do and stay afloat so I don't blame them. Either way, I enjoy it and like stopping in to see what's new. I rarely leave empty handed. I spent more in gas than what they gave me for two dresses costing 300 dollars and one was never worn. In the future I would feel much better donating than letting them make money. This place is even more of a rip off than Plato's Closet. It took them 3 hours to go through my clothing on a week day and then they didn't take anything even though I had good brands like Lululemon and Calvin Klein with the tags still on. The lady next to me was offered $3 for a $150 blazer. Then buying clothing from here is marked up like crazy. Staff was also rude. Such a scam.. sell online and find a different business to support. A bit pricey but it's another consignment shop to check out every now and again...except for those with scent sensitivities. I went last week and stayed a pretty good amount of time. I should have been more conscious of my environment. The plug-ins or fragrances used in the store also saturating (2) work blouses I purchased which gave me a SERIOUS allergic reaction! I was extremely sick that night and the entire next day...it was just awful. Unfortunately, I had to wash the blouses (one still with tags) with tons of baking soda and vinegar to try to get rid of the strong scents to salvage them. I don't remember the scents being so strong in the old store location. It will probably be a long...long while before I visit again. read more

I am ecstatic over finding Clothes Mentor. I desperately needed work clothes and they specialize in business casual. The employees are beyond friendly and helpful and the store is clean and incredibly organized. I was able to get many, many great foundation pieces as well as mix and match tops. I wasn't even sure what exactly I was looking for and they had even more, quality, unique clothes than I hoped. Even found an awesome black leather tote and an incredible Anushuka handmade, handpainted leather purse. Bonus is their loyalty rewards program. For every $250 spent, you receive a 20% off coupon and an additional 15% coupon for your birthday. Very productive couple of hours. Can't wait for my next trip. read more

Was not welcomed through the door: The person I talked to on the phone was great but the person that was at the door was not. I was Drove 40 mins and they said they stopped taking seller clothes at 6:30pm their website did not mention what time they stop taking clothes in. it says they're open until 8pm. I got here at 6:15 and it took me 15 mins to look for the opening because of construction. I didn't even get a chance to walk in the store. once I opened the door and was going to pick up the basket of clothes, the worker did not hesitate to ask me if i was a seller and stated we stopped at 6:30pm. I am frustrated bc I thought it was rude to not even let me walk in the door. It took me a 40 min drive to come out to this location. If it stated on their website that they stopped taking in clothing at 6:30 pm, i wouldn't even have made the drive. I even told the lady that i drove 40 mins and she said we don't take anything after 6:30 pm. Never coming back here again the customer service was not accommodating. i could see if i came in at 7:00 or later. I came in at 6:40. ridiculous. read more

Only bring items here before taking to donation. They give you practically nothing for like new items. I appreciate that they only take certain items, but they will rip you off! Believe me! They tried to give me $14 for an $800 leather jacket with tags! It may be a good place to purchase clothes, but don't expect much for what you bring in. Some of the staff is friendly. It was such a turn off to be offered pennies for really nice designer items. There are plenty of other places that don't take advantage of people selling their clothes. read more

PRO: I scored a beautiful mint Coach purse for ten cents on the dollar. CON: A skirt I tried on had a very obvious and disgusting DNA sample on the lining. I liked that that had a wide range of sizes, even though some areas had fairly thin selection--for instance, the bigger shoe sizes were very hit-or-miss. I saw lots of beautiful bags, several high-end, with a variety of price points. I actually bought more than one bag that day. read more

Location changed to a new beautiful brand new spot opposite side/parking of their old location but still inside Novi Town Centre. This resale shop is locally owned and gets the most amazing designer bags. I'm shocked by types of brands from Louis Vuitton to Henri Bendel. Clothes and shoes are excellent condition given used. The variety is amazing. I did read reviews about selling to them. I have never tried to sell but also never had to dig to shop good stuff. So, I guess if they are picky it has made my shopping experience better. Definitely check them out! read more

It is a great store as a shopper. I like the way they organize all of their items, they keep the store very clean, sizes are nicely put together as are clothing types. As a person who puts plenty of money in this store, they are disrespectfully nitpicky on the items they " pass" on. I see clearly what's on the floor, I bring in items that I have purchased at Clothes Mentor and have NEVER been worn or laundered. They go by " seasons of the year" ok, I get that. Please keep In mind the customers that keep your business running when they come in with a small bag of items that you " pass" on. That person may be bringing in perfectly good items and you can see the brand names etc.. Look up the phone number, if they are spending 100.00 a month at your store I think it's bad consignment reciprocity to " pass" on every last thing. I have went numerous times with an optimistic attitude about selling items but have left out disappointed each time. I have been offered $25 for Tory Burch handbag, $75 for Burberry boots and more recently $100 for once worn Gucci flats. I was told they didn't want some items for petty and ridiculous reasons. I'm only irritated because they have a bunch of basic items but always want your items to be brand new and give a fourth of the value. It's like they fill the store up with 75% Salvation Army items and then depend on consumers to practically give your items away in 100% condition. If you're looking to sell please don't waste your time being insulted and just try the Internet or you'd be better if donating your items for the amount they'll offer. read more

I always try to buy clothes secondhand for sustainability and financial reasons. I typically use Poshmark, but it can be frustrating since you can't try anything on and see it in person before ordering and etc so I was very happy to find Clothes Mentor!! They have a huge selection of name brand clothes, all for a fair price. They have a wide variety of styles, sizes and brands. I could spend all day here. I've never sold my clothes here so I can't speak for that, but I love shopping here and definitely recommend it! read more

I haven't sold clothes here so my review is based on a shopper experience. This store has a great selection of designer items to choose from including blouses, skirts, pants, workout wear, shoes, purses and jewelry. I have purchased many items that were highly discounted from the regular price. I got a pair of Chanel sunglasses for $60 that retail for over $250. You can also follow the page on Facebook to see new items that have arrived but you must be quick to call in as items sometimes are sold within minutes of the posting. I would recommend checking this place out if you like consignment stores. The prices are a bit higher than most consignment stores, but they also carry better brand names that some stores. read more

If you're looking to sell your items, here's what I've learned: -Be patient, you're not the only one selling items, but they were pretty fast and texted me when done. -Women's brands only (for example, no forever 21 or American eagle) -They are pretty strict on the 1-2yr rule for clothing which I appreciate as a shopper. -Keep in mind you'll get about a third of their selling price (which is usually more than a tax write off) I have been shopping here for a couple years, such a hidden gem, definitely recommend! read more

Southeast Michigan finally got a franchise of Clothes Mentor, a consignment store specifically focused on quality office wear, dresses, maternity wear and accessories for the working woman. My biggest beef with consignment and resale shop is often a teen-focused selection. Don't worry about sorting through a pile of Forever 21 castoffs. Brands carried include contemporary mall lines like Express, The Limited, Banana Republic, Chico's, and Anne Taylor, and designers including Anne Klein, I.N.C., Seven for All Mankind (jeans), and the occasional gem like Diane von Furstenburg. Louis Vuitton purses and wallets are a specialty. Clothes Mentor has stringent buying standards. They look for gently worn clothes, no stains or tears, from recent seasons. They buy for coming seasons and keep abreast of trends to avoid idle stock. Shoes must be near new or in good condition, without broken arches and worn out soles. I've scored brand new Aerosoles for $10 and drooled over buttery leather boots in a teeny-weeny size 6.5. Shoes are best stocked in size 7 and 8, but they carry all 5 up to 11. The Novi location is still building up loyal clientele and stock, but they have already established a broad range of dress pants, short and long-sleeved shirts, and dresses in sizes from XS to XL. Petite and extended sizes are separated for easy searching. Their strong suit - no pun intended - is in suiting separates, including dressier pants, skirts, and office-worthy shirts. Coats and blazers have a smaller selection. You can pull together a sophisticated outfit for a song, often cheaper than a single piece new in a store. Staff can also search by size, brand, and other features to save you a long trip for a specific item. The maternity section is still pretty sparse, with a selection of shirts, dresses, and pants. I had trouble finding full length jeans instead of capris and shorts, possibly because spring was around the corner when I visited. Motherhood by Maternity and Motherhood (Kohl's) make up the bulk of their maternity wear, with the odd Liz Lange for Target or Mimi's. All prices are very fair, especially considering how ridiculous regular stores charge for a garment worn for only a few months. read more

Came here with my wife a few weeks ago and while they do not have a selection of clothes for me, my wife was very pleased with the selection, variety and quality of the clothes Clothes Mentor had for her. They also bought some of spring/summer season wear from the last year, which was great. Basically this is a more adult-women's version of Plato's closet which happens to be next door. The store itself is nicely lit, very clean, and the employees are knowledgable and very fair when it comes to selling them gently used stylish clothing for women and very fashion concious when it comes to buying clothes from them. If you're a woman and looking to look great at lower prices than the expensive Twelve Oaks across the way, Clothes Mentor is a great way to save money and look good at the same time. read more

As a person who sells the clothes to Clothes Mentor I have to give only one star. There is several reasons for that. First, they offer ridiculous money fir clothes. Last time I brought 3 bags os clothes and they took only seven items for total of $ 18 !!!!. That's average of $2.50 per piece. This includes one worn adidas snickers and brand new Zara jacket. Second, clothes that I brought were nicely folded and when I got them back very messy way. Thirdly, entire process takes several hours. Definitely NOT worth my time. read more

After shopping at Clothes Mentor for several years and enjoying having choices at reasonable prices, I have begun to see a steep rise in the price of the clothing! When I can go to TJMaxx and buy a T-shirt for the same price as a USED T-shirt it's time to rethink Clothes Mentor and where they are going! Most of their shirts are in the range of $12 and up and pants and capris are around $16. Seems to be the most popular prices. For a couple dollars more I can buy new! read more

Dropped off my clothes to sell. Took me driving an extra 25 minutes to go home and wait 3 hours then another 25 minutes back to Clothes mentor for them to tell me that they don't take Juniors Clothes and that they won't buy anything. This is something associates should be telling people when they drop their stuff off to sell. Really annoyed. Won't go back here. Waste of time. read more

I have not personally sold items here yet based on the reviews the price is better than Plato's Closet ( owned by Clothes Mentor) and other competitor local resale shops. I have never had issues with the service. The staff although not overly friendly is cordial and efficient. I have found many gems of Lilly Pulitzer dresses and affordably priced cocktail dresses, not to mention business casual at steal of a price. I have noticed they have many designer shoes as well . I will keep going to clothes mentor, if you are looking to buy do not be scared away by the reviews on here. ! read more

Been here a few times. Found the people who work there to be very rude!!! Someone should let them know they are in a business of customer service. The clothes are Ok but very over priced for used.
