I was in the home goods section of Macy's a few weeks ago. I started with a set of sheets and found myself in the middle of a sale on useful things like stainless steel pots and pans. By the time I was done, I had multiple boxes and was wandering around aimlessly, dazed by all the shiny things on sale. Throughout this process, a salesperson named Lachay stood by as I debated wusthoff knives, toaster ovens and other miscellaneous kitchen items. When I'd finally collected more boxes than I could possibly carry, she rung me up and offered to help me to my car with the bags. I left the store empty handed, drove my car to the Macy's entrance and Ms. Lachay helped me haul my new kitchen to my car. She was awesome. read more

I like Macy's website, but I always have a heard time finding what I am looking for in the store. I friend suggested that I try Macy's By Appointment, and it was a lifesaver! I made an appointment with Megan, a Macy's personal shopper, and e-mailed her ahead of time with a list of things I was looking for and my sizes. I was amazed when I arrived to find a private area with a dressing room and clothes laid out just for me. Megan gave helpful feedback and honest opinions while I tried on the clothes, and then helped me choose shoes and accessories to match. It was a wonderful service, and is free! I would highly recommend Megan, and I will absolutely be going back to her soon! read more

This is probably the best Macy's that I've visited. As with all other stores in Pentagon City they get very busy on the weekends, but they manage the crowds well and if you can visit during the week it's a great shopping experience. They have a great selection, and staff is helpful without being overbearing. I tend to have very specific items in mind when I go shopping for dress clothes and I can usually find what I want here. I'm taking a star off because they recently re-designed the women's clothing floor and moved the old plus size/plus size clearance section to a new area that isn't as good (for business clothes, at least). It's now hard to find something smaller than a 20 (and, of course, there's nothing over a 14 in the 'regular' clothes) and the plus-size clearance is poorly marked and organized. I still shop the section but it takes far more time to find something I like. Although I will give kudos to the staff, who are usually very nice about trying to help me find a different size. read more

Horrible customer service. Footwear department is very rude and told me to shut up. Tried looking for the manager, but could never be found. Thankfully a Macy's associate helped me out with a simple return. I advise to stay away from the men's shoe department as they are very rude and don't care about the customer. My boyfriend and I decided it was time for each of us to get some new fragrances for spring. When I go to the Pentagon City Mall I typically go to Nordstrom but since we were not in the market to spend over $100 dollars on fragrances we chose to go to Macy's. We found our way to the fragrance department and attempted to look and small fragrances. Immediately 2 sales women come over and begin asking do we like this and that while spray multiple fragrances on the little white card stock papers. We played into the sales tactic for a little while and finally said we just wanted to look for ourselves and eventually the women back away. As we moved further down the counter another women sprayed a piece of card stock and trailed after my boyfriend. I exclaimed to the women that we did not need any help but she ignored me and went after him anyway. My boyfriend ignored the sales women by turning his head and walking in a new direction. I caught up with him and we decided to get out of there. Shopping at Macy's is something I have enjoyed for the majority of my life, heck, even my mom has been a loyal customer since way before I was born. But I will NEVER shop at the Macy's in Pentagon City Mall ever again!! I never have a very good experience there but this most recent one in the fragrance department put the cherry of top... or should I say the "red star". My boyfriend and I were in complete disbelief that we just experience what we had. Bum rushing people is no way to make a sale. Macy's Corporate needs to take a closer look at how their department store is being ran in Pentagon City, Arlington, Virginia. read more

This location is HORRIBLE, the store is always a HUGE MESS, racks are in a constant state of disarray. The staff is completely inept, you have a better chance of winning the lottery than getting any help from the employees. The cashiers are slow as molasses, rude and have no personality whatsoever. came here to do part of our wedding registry ... it was a disaster. scanners didnt work and all of the girls working in the department were clueless and unhelpful... they would point to an object that i was looking for and then go about their own business. no one knew where the flatware keys were to open it so we had to stand by it for 20 minutes until we gave up. way more stressful than fun. serious boo to this macys. read more

Stick with tysons if you need jewelry. I have literally been here for 15 minutes. There is no one working in the jewelry bays. I asked for help from handbags, they had someone paged, no one came. I called the store, there is no option just to talk to someone so I ended up on hold just to me told no one is available. I finally got someone to help me from watches. I explained I am frustrated for no one being available to help and the number of people who left because there was no one to assist, she said it wasn't her problem. read more

I purchased multiple clarions products and used them for a couple of months. I developed allergies and eye problems and after going to multiple doctors realized I was allergic to these Clarins products. I called Clarins and explained my problem and they said I could not return them after 30 days . I have product still in the box since I buy 2 of everything. One for travel and one for home. Clarins did not seem to care and refused to do anything for me since it was after 30 days. Most companies will aid you when you have a problem with their product but, not this one. read more

I went to this store to purchase blue dresses for my girls as they have a dress code certain days. We found what we needed most that were on sale or so we though. When we got to the checks out none of them were ringing up at the ticketed price, however the gentleman behind the counter did honor the price listed as it was an error on their part. By far one of the best experience I've had at any Macy's. store could be better organized and needs more then just one representative per floor on weekends. read more

Caveat: This is only about our mattress buying and delivery experience--no reflection on the rest of the store. After being disgusted and angered by the aggressive and obnoxious sales tactics at the mattress stores, we headed to the mattress section at Macy's. Though the mattress area looks a bit sad, the salesman (Obi, I think?) was friendly and just the right amount of helpful. He didn't pester us while we spent long amounts of time laying on different mattresses and gave straightforward answers to our questions about the differences between products. Though he made some suggestions, he didn't engage in any high-pressured sales tactics and gave us space to make a decision--we had to walk away for a few minutes to process our final decision, but we came back and felt good about giving him the commission. (On top of that, he was gentle but firm with some kids who came in and tried to jump on the beds.) With regard to the Macy's set-up, the Labor Day sale prices were in the range that our prior research showed were reasonable prices and, after playing the deal/quote/calculator game at the mattress stores, it was nice and refreshing to have a standard stated (sale) price, delivery price, etc., and no surprise add-on fees. Makes it way easier to compare prices, etc. The delivery price ($85 plus $25 for removal of the old mattress; free above a certain price point) was reasonable, and lower than we had seen elsewhere. I don't think we got a steal, but we didn't pay too much, either. There is a 60-day return policy on the mattresses. Today, the mattress was delivered, and, honestly, I was pleasantly impressed. I received automated calls confirming my delivery date a couple days out, and then an automated call letting me know my 2-hour delivery window the day before. Twenty minutes before the delivery window, I got a call from the delivery guys stating that they were about twenty minutes away. Right on time, they arrived--that's right at the beginning of the stated delivery window for those of you keeping score at home. Juan, the delivery guy I spoke with, could not have been more professional and polite and gave me a chance to inspect the new mattress before they left. The two-man team was in and out in an amazingly efficient 15 minutes, including removal and bagging of the old mattress and box spring, and hauling in and unbagging the new--all while negotiating 1.5 flights of old narrow DC stairs and our collection of bikes crowing the font door. So yeah, we'd buy a mattress at Macy's again (assuming they carry what we want--if you want memory foam, I hear those Costco mattresses are great). read more

I love this Macy's! However the girls (knock off Mac girls) at the Mac counter are so rude and have the worst customer service. I was browsing at the lip pencils in hopes to make a purchase and the Mac girl literally stepped right in front of me no excuse me no nothing to assist another customer. I got duped! The "new account savings" I was promised for opening my charge account was less than half of what the sales rep told me it would be. After an hour on the phone and e-chat with various service and credit departments, no resolve. The reps. passed me off to other departments and dictated Macy's policies to me instead of being helpful. I specifically asked the sales rep the amount of the discount I should expet on my first bill. I carefully listened for the phrase "up to" and confirmed the amount before the transaction. The accounts dept. told me it was a cust. serv. dept. issue, cust. serv told me it was an accounts dept. issue. Both told me to take it up with the store manager for store credit, etc. Store credit is not the same as a balance adjustment, even if it was offered. This is bad service policy. I would not expect to retain any client that I treated this poorly. read more

First off, I just wanted to say that the comments I've read here are some of the funniest I've ever seen. Yeah, I've been shopping at this Pentagon location for years - maybe 15 - and the place has definitely gone downhill as far as it being a mess. You don't get the feeling it's really a nice department store - more like a Target anymore. Quality isn't as good as it used to be either. BUT...the thing I love about Macy's is that if you buy something on sale, it's usually cheaper than the price on the sales tag, once they ring it up. Makes it worth it to me (I'm usually too broke to buy clothes these days). While I've never had an overly rude associate ring me up, I can see what everyone means about the sales people just hangin' out, ignoring their customers, checking their text messages. Plus, it is a bonus having the store right at a metro station. I've had much better luck with the Ballston location - associates are friendlier (ESPECIALLY at the Clinique counter) and the store isn't as crowded, so you don't feel like another customer is constantly in your space. So, no...Macy's isn't as nice as it used to be...but I'm happy for the sales and coupons. read more

The worst customer service I got today by Almaz at Pentagon City mall! I want to return a dress because the size was to small for me and they didn't have the size I needed. The first thing she asked is if I wear the dress I told her no. Then instead of using her hand to keep the dress she used the price scanner to threw it on the floor. To make it worst she used hand sanitizer I couldn't believe this. So when someone return cloths if employees threw it on the floor why people buy it?!Customers try clothes and buy it so what!! She had bad attitude the way she talks to customer. This makes people not to come and shop at all. When I asked for a manger she is like I'm the manger. Really I never seen a manger like this. I asked for another manger because this kind of customer services is unacceptable to anyone. Oksana the other manger was nice and understanding. She checked the dress and she said it hasn't been wear. She apologized but no one should be treated like Almaz treated me! I love Macy's and I never shop there without a sale. I signed up for their email notifications. Just about every week they have a different sale. You can come to Macy's and get everything you need. I love Clinique and buy most of my cosmetics from them. FYI... if you like designer brands like Coach, name brand sunglasses and more... it's less expensive when you buy these items at Macy's during a sale because when they have, for instance, %15 percent off this can be applied to the entire store (except for cosmetics). read more

If I could give less than 1 star, I would. The bathrooms are awful and there is too much merchandise on the floor. This horrible review is for an experience I had today. I went to buy earrings for my 5 year old daughter. We chose the ones she wanted and made an attempt to pay. We were unable to find anyone at the original jewelry counter so we went to another jewelry counter where I saw an employee. I walked up to her and said, "May I pay for this here?" She looked at me and gruffly said, "I'm with a customer", rolled her eyes and continued whatever she was doing. She practically SPAT the words at me! I was very polite to this woman whose name is Najimia. Now I understand that working retail can be frustrating and everyone is entitled to a bad day, but THAT was uncalled for and is a horrible reflection upon your store. Initially, I looked for somewhere else to pay and then I decided I did not need to beg anyone to take my money. I also, decided NOT to buy the pants, shirt and messenger bag for my son. In fact, I do NOT plan to buy anything from the Pentagon City Macy's for quite some time. Your people must be trained better than this and they need to understand that they are not doing the customers a favor. While I don't expect hugs and kisses, at the very least she could have said, "Ma'am, I'm currently with a customer, but I can help you when I'm done" or "just one second let me call another associate over to help you or "would you mind stepping over to this other counter where someone else can help you?" She had many options, but she chose the one that lost you a customer and several sales. read more

I was helped by a representative with a name I cannot pronounce. The Rep then states they never sold shoes in their mall . 2 days ago I spoke with a helpful rep that put the shoes on hold for me, upset because I already tried on my shoes and knowing they have shoes the manager Denise insists that they have never sold shoes for over a year that shes been there. Besides all this both reps were extremely rude and not to mention lied to my face. NASTY, NASTY, NASTY is all I can say and William H Macy must be rolling over in his grave at what his wonderful department store has become. The men's department is an absolute mess...TJ MAXX and Marshall's have cleaner more organized stores. The employee's - how nasty can you be?? Everyone that works there sitting around, three guys near the shoe department talking about their weekend and totally ignoring all of the customers. The men's fitting rooms - disgusting. They were filled with clothes others had tried on, they were filthy, there was no light in the fitting room I was in. I went to pay as I found cheap T-Shirts, otherwise I would have not bought a thing, three women behind the counter bitching to each other about their pay and if Virginia's minimum wage was going to increase. Two of them stared at me and finally said "YES?" I would love to have a chat with the store manager, I cannot imagine who that is. I did see one manager, noted by her RED name tag, I asked her a question and she told me I would have ask someone in that department! NICE! There will NEVER be a trip in that store again. I contacted Macy's at Pentagon City in Arlington, VA yesterday (1/18/17) with a sort of emergency. My boss arrived in Virginia from Nebraska, and realized he forgot a pair of slacks that he needed today (1/19/17). He suggested I call Macy's (from Nebraska) as he knew it was close to his hotel. I started out by looking up the Macy's near his hotel and called them. I listened to the menu and pressed the number for men's slacks. I waited, and waited, and waited, and waited and nobody ever picked up. The auto-voice came back on the line saying something about that extension was not available. I tried pressing another number for a different men's department and had the same issue. I pressed the button for "operator" and they said they would suggest I call the store (which is what I had been trying to do before). But I called them again. I pressed another number just so I could speak with a live person who I thought could find someone in men's to help me. Upon them answering, I was hung up on immediately. I called again, pressing a number just to talk to anyone and someone answered. I told them I needed the men's department, they transferred me (without checking to see if anyone was available there) and I got nobody again. Calling back YET AGAIN, someone in another department was finally able to transfer me to someone in the men's department and I explained to him what I needed; the color of the pants, the size, the issue. I couldn't understand him very well, but I believe he said he was going to go check to see if they had anything in stock. I was not put on hold, but rather, the phone was put down and I could hear people talking, including the person I had just talked to. He never came back to the phone though. I tried talking so he might hear me, I pushed buttons to get his (or anybody's) attention, but nothing worked. VERY FRUSTRATED after over 35 minutes of trying to get a hold of someone to help me, I gave up and called another retailer in the area. They were able to assist me and even had the pants hemmed within two hours before a courier picked the pants up. I'm very disappointed in Macy's unfriendly associates and terrible customer service in terms of phones not being answered for long periods of time, calls being transferred without knowing if someone would be on the other end, etc., etc. I work for an International franchising company and we strive to provide excellent customer service. With Macy's being such a popular retailer, I am truly disappointed with their customer service associates and sales people. I hope that other customers have a better experience than what I went through yesterday. read more

I would like to take the time to write a review about a sales associate who helped me find a dress for an upcoming event. Her name is Juanita (I truly hope I spelled it correctly) she was extremely patient, very caring and extremely professional. I must admit I was a raging bull due to a bad customer service experience with another associate. She spent one hour of her time making me feel like I was a star by being attentive, caring and even reaching out to other locations placing dresses on hold for me because I was determined to buy my dress yesterday. She multitasked with other customers and treating them with the same attentiveness, professionalism and care. I was in awe over the experience with her and even asked if I could speak to a manager so I could praise her. She denied it and stated seeing that I was happy and was able to find a dress that I love was praise enough for her. I am truly thankful for my interaction with her. read more
