I've been to Mac's since they first opened and can easily say I've been to it for lunch, dinner, late night and to just drink. So I think I have a fair assessment of how the place is. For starters, MOST of the food is good/bordering on pretty good when considering its a bar. I've had the pizza, the burgers, the Macover, and the fish and chips. I want to reiterate that MOST of the food is good. The fish and chips, that's where Mac's goes TERRIBLY wrong. I've tried it at least 3-4 times. It has almost always not been fully cooked, mainly due to the batter being way too thick. On top of that my "chips" have numbered as few as 3-4 waffle fries on my plate. So I got a plate of raw fish and a 1/3rd serving of fries. Essentially, one should stick with the pizza or burgers. You usually can't go wrong with either. Besides the food, the bar is full, so you can have a great time there. Final piece on Mac's, the service is usually pretty bad. Even when it is really, really slow. Good luck getting a waitress to come to you more than once every hour, or bartender to take care of you unless you are sitting right in front of him/her. Overall, its worth a try. At least for the food (save for the Fish) and maybe a drink or two. If you are new to UC, you also owe it to yourself to stop on by. One evening I went with some friends of mine and got the Calzone, which was phenomenal! It was a good size, and very filling. Their service was kind of slow and we waited a while not only our food but to be given menus as well. I am not the kind of person who gets upset or inpatient waiting for food and service so it didn't bother me too much! It has a chill atmosphere, the staff were very kind, and my friends and I enjoyed our food! Would definitely come again. read more

My husband and I stumbled upon Macs lastnight. The place has a pretty laidback atmosphere and the pizza was surprisingly good. We had gotten a large pizza, half gyro and half Hawaiian Heaven. Both were delicious. Although, we did request no olives on our pizza, ours did come out with olives on it but it was still good, so we didn't complain. Another issue was that they had a few beers that they were out of, but again, we made it work. As for our hostess, i'll give her the benefit of the doubt since it seemed as if there was only one for that night, but she seemed as if she didn't care, seemed as if she was ignoring us and busy talking to her friends at the front. At one time when we tried to get her attention she looked at us and kept walking, not even saying "i'll be right with you". Lastly, when we asked for our check she said, "here you go" and just dropped it on our table. No smile, no thank you for coming. Because the pizza was actually good and the tables were cleaner than I've seen in other restaurants around here, I'm giving this place 3 stars. Horrible during the weekday inset was of being honest with people the come out and say were done serving for tonight even though the server told us they close in 15 mins. I no longer live in Cincinnati and this is based on an old experience but it was bad enough that I never forgot it. I don't think Yelp even existed back then for me to leave this. I definitely reported them to the BBB though because it was all we had in those days. I used to go here for karaoke with Freedom Rock Barb. My friends and I went all the time, at least once a week for karaoke, but usually more often than that. One night, a girl friend of mine slapped another patron's butt. He turned around and thought it was me and was super homophobic and complained to the staff. Even after my friend told them it was her, they still threw me out just because I was gay. I never went back. I never forget homophobic restaurants that treat me like crap just because I'm gay. I never received an apology and that place lost a good number of loyal customers in me and my friends and I have continued to tell this story for 8+ years now and I will continue repeating it because establishments that treat their LGBT clientele like that deserve to be called out and to be remembered for the horrible way they treat people like me. Update: Since I first left this review, a Mac's owner sent me a fake apology message and engaged in more victim blaming, claiming that all parties in a "disturbance" get kicked out. As I stated in my review, which he obviously didn't read, I wasn't a party in the disturbance as it wasn't I who slapped the guy's butt. Additionally, the two who were actually involved, the guy and the girl who actually slapped his butt and admitted to it, were not thrown out. Neither of them was. He went on to basically tell me that times have changed over the years as if it were okay to treat me that way then because it was a different time or something. These people just never seem to get it. They just can't bring themselves to own up to their deplorable behavior and simply apologize. It's sick. Update 2: Now, over a year later, a Mac's owner felt the need to go on Facebook and attack me again. He continues to blame the victim and refuses to apologize or own up to the truth. It's appalling that any company would go so far out of their way, especially nearly 10 years later, to lie and to try to cover up their reprehensible actions. The owners, especially the David Rinderle guy who chose to attack me on Facebook, are obviously garbage people. Please don't support this hate-filled company. If they can kick me out just for being gay, imagine why else they might kick you out. Do you really feel safe going to a place like that? read more

The reason I am rating this so low is because the service was pathetic! I ordered the famous gyro pizza which was OK and not as great as it was claimed to be. Secondly, the server was either rude or something else that rhymes with toned , I wanted to assume second one since he was just plain rude and we were too neglected. It was Sunday evening and since there weren't many customers, all the servers were hanging around and this guy comes and goes at his own leisure, in short pathetic service and not so great food! With salad, various pizza options, dessert, and a drink, you can't beat the $8 lunch buffet on Fridays! Much like the rest of Clifton, the only downfall to this place is parking. There is a parking lot in the back of Mac's, but it is usually full. I say it's worth the hassle though! I have never been for drinks, but it looks like they have awesome specials...Karaoke on Tuesdays and 50 cent drafts?? I'm down. Attention young kids, Mac's is calling you. If you are into the bar scene to get drunk and get laid, then Mac's on a weekend is for you. I've been on a couple Friday nights and women actually approach me here. I mean, it's like they are drunken lionesses on the prowl. So ya, if that's your scene, you'll love it here. I like it because they have the best pizza in town, good cheap drinks and usually have a band, karaoke or something to that effect. I always have a good time here, and love watching the ****show. We went to Macs for the first time with a group of nine. Not only was the food delicious but they had very friendly service and a great selection of beers. We had the Don pizza which was meatballs, pepperoni, banana peppers and mozzarella cheese. The crust was garlicky and perfectly cooked. Mac's is a typical bar. Plenty of drunk college kids who anxiously wait their turn to make a fool of themselves on Tuesday's karaoke night and plenty of college kids populating stools and booths for the big games on Saturday and Sunday. Plenty of options on tap, and decent pizza to boot, with plenty of toppings options, Mac's lives up to its subtitle (pizza). However, they recently discontinued a lunch pizza buffet they offered that was cheap and fast for students. I think it was a mistake because I never see anyone in there during lunchtime anymore, but the crowds still show up in the evenings so they can't be too worried. read more

Being Vegan I am pleased there is a Vegan pizza at Mac's Pizza and let me tell you it is delicious! The crust, the cheese, toppings, delicious! I will be back! However if you are non-vegan there are plenty of options for you too! It was crowded when I arrived on a UC game day and had to wait for quite some time for a booth and it is seat yourself so you might wait awhile so prepare yourself for a long wait if you ever arrive on a UC game night. Not my favorite place to go in Clifton, but it serves its purpose. Its kind of hard to get service at the main bar when they are busy, but they are pretty good if you are sitting at a table. They have some interesting karaoke on Tuesday night with Barb, who will forever be a staple in cincinnati karaoke. I will say they have some damn good pizza for drunken nights. read more

I have mixed feelings about this little pizza joint. It has a great location if you are in Clifton! The inside is very nice and the pizza is actually really good! Get yourself a MacOver. My issue really is with the service and condition of the place. I have been in with friends many times and had to wait a while to get our server to get orders and bring drinks out in a timely manor. Also I have been there when the tables were sticky and not bused. Overall it is a nice little pub to grab a bite but just know that it may not be up to your standards some days. read more

Loved it here! Really cool environment and great pizza! The personal size is perfect for just one person. They have build-you-own options as well as specialty pizzas. Mac's is a college pizza place. Either your expectations will be really high, thinking it's basically on a college campus, or you'll realize it's a pizza on a college campus that serves cheap beer, has a pool table and some games and pizza for that 1 am hunger/drunk pang. If you visit under the second scenario, you won't be disappointed. The pizzas are great actually. The crust is thick yet crunchy and they totally go all out with the cheese. The pizza offerings are pretty great too, from the traditional to the supreme, but also throwing in some unique offerings like a buffalo chicken, ranch chicken and waffle fry pizza. Here's the thing with Mac's it's a great pizza place in Clifton. If you're lucky, there's even a parking lot out back. Anyone in Clifton knows this is a perk if you're driving. The drink specials fit the territory. We went for the five dollar pitcher of Keystone light. The drawback is service. If you're there to sit, and not hang out at the bar, don't be in a rush and wear your patience pants for the day, because you will wait. The good part is that the food is fresh. But the servers seem to even struggle getting your beer order to the table. So if you're not in a rush, want to enjoy some drink specials and willing to wait for good pizza, you will enjoy Mac's. We have been to Mac's many times when we have been in Clifton with our boys. (We have not been past dinner hours when it has a more bar feel.) Our favorite pizza is the Mac's Special with pepperoni, buffalo, and jalapeños. The boys also like the hot pretzels and we like the large selection of beers. Great place to get together with friends and eat good pizza. I liked the meatball pizza; loaded with garlic and your choice of veggies. Lots to choose from, and the menu has vegetarian/vegan options, as well as specialty pizzas with bison, etc. They have daily happy hour specials beginning at 4pm. LOVE IT!!! You would think that a, "college bar" wouldn't have great food, but this place is definitely an exception!! Ask anyone about their pizza, it is the best in town, but they have delicious burgers and salads smothered in fresh toppings and cheeses that make you think they don't care about food costs. One thing to get if you don't care at all about your diet - their loaded fries...they are to die for!!! They also have vegan and gluten-free options, which normally I don't care about, but the gluten-free pizza crust is like ordering a thin-crust pizza, which I really like. I enjoyed this place! While im far removed from the college scene ha! I loved the feel of this place..it most definately reminds me of my undergrad days! Not to mention the happy hour deals are fantastic! The portions are definitely worth it and their fried pickles are amazing! It is a nice size place with good seating. The two main reasons that I go to Mac's are 1. the pizza 2. Karaoke Tuesday's The DJ at karaoke night is freaking awesome and knows how to keep the night alive. I also like that they have both high-top tables and booths for you to sit and have your drinks. Keep in mind that it is right next to UC campus, so the people here will most likely be of college age.. Other than karaoke night, this is your average college bar. read more

I have been wanting to try Mac's Pizza Pub for a while because I have heard such wonderful things. I don't know why I didn't start with pizza. I got a meatball sub, which came with a few waffle fries. I was honestly a little disappointed in the meatballs. They were spicy. Like, incredibly spicy. Like, too spicy to eat and enjoy spicy. I don't dislike spicy food, but this was too spicy to really be palatable. I didn't like it very much. I will give this place another try though, because I still have yet to try the pizzas, which I understand are the true gem, and I hope to update my review then. read more
