The manager was kind and gave me an estimate of just over $500- for the parts including a painted part. They required a deposit for the parts- $200, which is fair. The parts came quickly and i was able to get everything taken care of in just a few days. They offered after hours pick up, which was nice for my busy work schedule. Mac's is conveniently located not too far from Davis square too, so it's easy to get to/from wherever you need to go. They didn't try and up-sell me either, which was nice. What a great auto body shop in the heart of Somerville! I hit the rear bumper and the back headlight of my car and i wanted to pay the cost of repair without going through the insurance. I start getting quotations from different places, a total of 5 and most of them are north shore thinking it might be cheaper... but Mac was the best and reasonable pricing. Just dropped my Jeep in a few weeks back, and was incredibly happy with a couple of things. 1) The customer service was amazing. When I got in the rental car company I had worked with to have on site when I arrived missed their timing. Rather than it be my problem, they got me in touch with another agency down the street, and had the transfer of rental companies done for me. That was a nice way to save me some work, and stress! 2) During the process of evaluating the car shops in the area, Mac's was very informative of the process, what they would need, and what I should be thinking about (planning for a rental through the insurance handling the claim). 3) Just an easy going office in there. I felt as though the team was one you could trust out of the gate. Most suggestions made by the front office were in line with what I was hoping to have done to the car. On Sunday November 9th, I was trying to teach my friend how to drive at an empty parking lot in Assembly Square. Lo and behold my 2013 Honda Civic ended up reversing into one of those light poles with a cemented bottom. The driver's side rear bumper was demolished and the rear quarter panel was bent in. That same week I went from place to place getting quotes from different body shops around the Boston area based on Yelp reviews; I wanted to find a reputable body shop. I've never been in an accident before so this whole process was new to me. On Thursday, I walked into Mac's Auto Body right as they opened. I was greeted by Jeff who treated me with the utmost respect. He took a look at my car, gave an estimate, answered any questions I had, and then I was on my way. After visiting several more body shops, on Friday I decided to stick with Mac's Body Shop. I chose them because they were conveniently located near Davis Square, which is only 1.5 miles away from my house so I could simply walk from/to there as I dropped/picked up my car. They also gave me a quote that was lower than the rest of the competition so choosing them was a no-brainer. That day I was able to schedule my repair for November 23 and Jeff gave me an estimated time of 2 weeks due to the Thanksgiving holiday, which was understandable. When the time came, Monday morning I dropped off my car and key which literally only took 1 minute. Surprisingly, one week later I get a call from Jeff letting me know that my car was ready to be picked up, ONE WEEK AHEAD OF SCHEDULE! I rushed down there the next day and there was my car completely fixed and clean, as if nothing even happened. They even kept the 2 rear splash guards that I attached to my old bumper, saving me money later on if I decided to get new ones! I could not be any more pleased, great job guys! read more

Mac's didn't actually end up doing any repairs on our car, but all the interactions with them and help they gave us were really great. My car was hit and towed to a tow yard. After some research, I chose Mac's as the shop to do the repairs. Even though they couldn't start the work until a few days after we called them, they had the car picked up and brought over to their shop right away. When they started to open the car up for repairs, they discovered more damage than my insurance company had originally estimated for. So they called insurance back in, and ultimately the insurance company called the car damage totaled. Well, hasta la vista, car. I was thankful for their diligence checking back in with our insurance company before attempting to do any work. The guys were great and easy to work with, even apologizing that more couldn't be done to get us our car fixed and returned to us. I meant to write this review weeks ago when I had work done on my 2005 Prius. My entire rear bumper had gotten ripped away and it looked like a huge job to replace. I brought it in and Mac's fixed it for a good price and even closed a gap between the bumper and body that had been there for years. I was in an accident in which the drivers side of my car suffered fairly extensive damage. I needed the driver side door and side view mirror replaced as well as some dents on the back door and hood. World Class Mac's is absolutely the finest auto repair/body experience I have had in 40 years of owning cars. Quality of the work was a ten. Price was fair and came in as quoted. Service was incredible. Their entire team treat you as if you just brought your Rolls Royce in for service (rather than the 2017 Subaru I dropped off!). Attentive, quick and respectful. They quoted returning the car on a Thursday or Friday and called at the end of the day on the Wednesday (a day early) and said the car was done. Then they dropped it off at the office! This speaks nothing to the quality of service or my experience as a customer. When it comes to auto body repair, the only thing that matters to me is price. I don't care if you have the best service in the world - all that matters is that you get the job done at the lowest possible cost to me. Now, I'm sure the people at Mac's are very professional and take pride in their work. But let's take a look at these estimates for a rear bumper replacement of my 2004 accord (labor, paint, emblem included): Mac's Auto Body: $845 Sako Auto Body: $800+ Webster Auto Body Corporation: $727 Tech Auto Body Center: $650 Somerville Auto Center: $500/$600 (two bumper options, not including emblem) EZ Auto Body: $500 Look at that price range!! Keep in mind that all these places have yelp ratings of 4.5-5, so it's not like the quality of service is going to vary much. After coming in to get my car checked out and receiving this ridiculous estimate, I did my research, and I simply cannot endorse this place unless the prices become more reasonable. Don't settle for the first auto shop you find. When asking for an estimate, body shops will claim they need to see the damage in person and thus can't give you an estimate over the phone. While that may be true for certain types of damages where the repair needed can vary (bumper scratch, small dent, etc), for a straightforward case like a total bumper replacement, that information can absolutely be obtained over the phone. Just keep persisting, saying that you have all the information they need (VIN on your registration, make/model/color of car, engine details, etc). No need to drive around to each location to find the best price. read more

I'm a city girl who's only recently started driving again, so I'm a little intimidated by dealing with auto repairs and worrying that the guys will rip me off because they sense I know nothing about this stuff. They dealt with all the hassle about adjusting the check from the insurance company, and got my car back to me as fast as they possibly could. The repair job on my car was apparently no easy task, and while my car was with Mac's for longer than I would have liked, Dave (the owner) was nothing short of professional, patient, and informative. He kept me up to date on the latest news on the parts coming in from Germany and worked with the car rental agency to make sure I was well taken care of. When the job was done the repair was not only complete, but the car was washed, the interior was vacuumed and the paperwork was a piece of cake. Dave is a great guy, a smart business man who will do what it takes to make his customers happy. And he put up with me being a pain the butt too! That's far more than I've ever experienced with any other shop. And let's be frank - most shops are just shady and will take advantage of you the moment they get the chance. Not with Mac's and not with Dave. I hope I don't have to get auto body repairs done again, but that's a tall order. In the event I do, though, Mac's will get my business. read more

My poor car was assaulted while innocently parked on the street. No note, no suspects, nothing. Just a huge dent, deep enough to crack the paint, and a big scrape on my door. Five years without a driveway, it was bound to happen. I just wish it happened to my old clunker, not my brand new sedan. Le sigh. After receiving quotes ranging from the suspiciously cheap to "you need to replace the entire door," I settled on Mac's Autobody. They offered me a reasonable estimate and didn't try to talk me into unnecessary work (i.e replacing the door) When I explained that I would be paying out of pocket, they assured me that the repairs would not exceed the original estimate. Happily, the final cost ended up $50 less than originally quoted. They had the car ready when promised and perfectly restored. Several people warned me that the color (metallic silver) would be difficult to match, but they did a meticulous job. My car looks brand new again. A few caveats: Cash or check only. They close at 4PM on Friday and are not open on weekends. Also, the parking space to the left of their garage belongs to the house next door. I found that out the hard way! read more

Mac's is the BEST. They're honest and fair, and do excellent work. In fact, they came in $200 under what my insurance company estimated for repainting a door and a quarter panel. And the estimate was EXACTLY what I ended up paying. He's not in the business of lowballing you, then hiking up the charge when you pick it up. Unless there legitimately WAS something else that came up, expect to pay exactly the estimate. When I picked up the car, I saw they had painted over a chipped spot that wasn't part of the damage, just did it while they were at it. I really appreciated that. I'll be using them any time I need body work done in the future. I've never had such a good experience with anything involving a car EVER. A couple things to know: They only take cash or check, and they don't take insurance. This was fine for me, since my insurance just deposited the amount for the damage into my checking account, and then I paid. Also, they keep a really long schedule, so I had to wait 3 weeks to take my car in. BUT, then they fixed it that very day and I had it back the following day. Only one day without my car. Totally worth the wait. And call ahead before you swing by for an estimate, because the guy isn't always there. read more

Best Auto Body Shop - Bar None I can't believe I haven't rated Mac yet! I rarely give out five star ratings, but this place thoroughly deserves it. I first brought my car here back in 1987 on the recommendation of a friend and I've been hooked ever since. The (comparatively) new owner worked here for years under the previous owner, whom he purchased the business from, so he's got tons of experience and understands what his customers are looking for quality work at fair prices! He is extraordinarily knowledgeable, and with very reasonable rates, and works as fast as humanly possible. All his workers are true professionals as well. The one drawback? He is so good, that he is extremely busy, which means a six week wait to bring your car here is not unusual. BUT, if your car is not drivable, as mine was, he'll fit you in right away. They handle all of the paperwork with your insurance company as well. And when you get your car back, you'll never know it was in an accident. read more

Let me preface this by noting that I don't often give out 5 star reviews. Mac's did a superb job on my 2012 Infiniti G37S, and they were pleasant and professional during every step of the process. Someone hit the back of my car leaving an ugly dent on the trunk lid just above the G37S emblem. I took it into Mac's for an estimate based on their excellent reviews on Yelp. They were very professional in all of my interactions with them, promptly assessed the damage and supplied me with an itemized estimate, answered all my questions about the work they were proposing (I'm very skeptical of anyone who wants to do anything to my car in exchange for my money!), and booked an appointment to do the work. When I picked up my car (on time, when they said it would be finished) it looked great; the quality of work was truly outstanding. They were able to complete the work for less than the initial estimate, which I ended up paying for out of pocket because it turned out to be less than my insurance deductible. I highly recommend checking out Mac's when you need body work done. It was a much better experience than I've had at any other body shop I've dealt with.
