Ever since Horton's Seafood closed, in E. Providence (2014?), I have been looking for a place that does the Fried Clams RIGHT. Finally found it! Tender whole belly and yum! All of their fried seafood is delicious. My new favorite is the Fish Nuggets. VERY tender, small fish bites that are solid fish, and not greasy at all! The stuffies are a good balance of clams, chourico and breading, with a good spice blend. My wife and I each had a bowl of chowder, and shared the "Sampler". We will next be trying the baked dinners. My wife and I were with another couple and found this by Yelping it after we were unable to get parking at Evelyn's. This is going to be our new go-to for seafood, clam cakes and chowder. This place has a great vibe. All of us loved the picnic tables under the tent and the music selection. My wife and I had chowder and clam cakes and split a pint of fried clams. The chowder was thick, delicious and full of clams. And the clam cakes were the best we have ever had. They were crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. And loaded with clams. The pint container of clams was overflowing. The portion was more than a pint. They were light, crispy and yummy. Our friends split the seafood platter and there was enough food to fill them both. The batter on the scallops was very light and the scallops were fresh. Considering the inflationary price hikes of everything, everything on Macray's menu is reasonably priced. My husband and I have been ordering take out now for over a year with this pandemic, but since Macrays has igloos for dining we decided to reserve one for us for Friday night. I just have to say the service at that place is like none other. Last year for my birthday we ordered dinner and they had forgotten a cup of chowder and a stuffie, they told us next time we come in they would honor it, and we hadn't gotten the chance to go back before the season ended so when they re-opened this season, the owner remembered the mishap and gave us an entire quart of chowder and stuffies to make up for their previous mistake, he was very grateful we went to him directly and gave him the chance to make it right before bashing on social media, which seems to be happening quite a lot these days. Back to Friday night dinner, my husband and I took our 19 month old son with us for dinner, my husband got the fish and chips and I got the surf and turf special which was a filet mignon 6oz topped with lobster and smothered in a bernaise sauce, with a potato and vegetable. Our server was named Beth, she was so personable it felt like we had known each other for years. When our dishes arrived she noticed there was little to no lobster on my filet and she returned to the kitchen immediately and brought me an entire crock of lobster to make it right. It all was so delicious, the fish and chips didn't last 10 minutes, my husband had not a single complaint, and our son also loved it and it was his first time ever having fish. He also picked off of my plate and had some of my filet mignon which was melt in your mouth delicious and cooked to perfection. The bernaise sauce added such a nice touch with my mashed potatoes and pan seared green beans. The prices are like no other also, after the bill came and we paid, Beth came out with a paper bag and said "here this is a little something for you so you can have lunch tomorrow at work" inside the bag was 2 stuffies at no charge to us!! Not only is the food delicious, and super affordable for the quality, but the staff/owners genuinely care about their patrons and go above and beyond to make even the smallest hiccup right. Went last night for the first time. Tried the fish and chips last night and it was very good! The fish was nice and thick-cut and the batter was spot on. The fries and the cole slaw were really tasty too. Also enjoyed a lagunitas on tap. And the manager checked on us to make sure we were having a good time. He seems like a great guy. Loved this place last summer and was sure I had already written a 5 star review. Apparently not, but either way, today's experience changed my mind completely. The clam cakes were as good as ever; Macray's is actually one of the few places where I'll eat more than one bite of a clam cake. The fried clams however, were inedible. Bland is the best word I can think of to describe them, but it was so much more than that. Un-clammy? Idk, but the picture is an "after" shot of what ended up in the trash. We ate 2-3 each, and that was really just out of disbelief that they could be so awful. I really liked this place, and it's convenient, so I wanted to let them know them know that something (whatever it may be) was off. I made it clear I wasn't looking for a refund or replacement order, but quickly learned that customer service had gone downhill along with the food. The woman I spoke with on the phone immediately became super defensive, informing me that they hadn't had any other complaints or changed the recipe, and had always used Maryland clams that cost $100/gallon. Maybe I just didn't like Maryland clams? I'm not sure why she felt any of that was relevant, because either way, the clams sucked. I'm giving an extra star just based on past experiences. read more

Have never been disappointed with the seafood here. Was glad to get to go again this summer. Seafood samplers was all we needed and had some left for lunch the next day. Still very good. Seafood perfectly fried with gray taste. Next time I hope we get the chance to start and have a cocktail or a beer. Outdoor seating is a plus. read more

Just right off the bat, spent $55.83 on 2 small clams no fries, and a small fish and chip. Food was inedible and threw it away. Asked for the owner but he was unavailable so we informed the woman that it was disgusting and she said nothing. Place is covered in bees. Won't be back there again. The only good I can say was at least the woman was pleasant to start. Update: The owner contacted me to apologize and was very kind. We're hoping it was a simple bad experience( maybe undercooked or whatever could cause it) I will be going back tomorrow to follow up on how they do. But I will say, I highly appreciate anyone that cares about their customers thoughts that much. Two stars up for response time. read more

She had been to this establishment a few times, no complaints. So we call, place order & off I go with the dog to pick up order. GF gives me a $100 bill. I get to store, (I'm fat) and the worker, an overweight blonde, closer to 40 than 30 takes the cash and gives me change which (my mistake) I don't count as I'm asking about business hours, malt vinegar packets for fries and I leave. Order was $39. I get home, we eat, GF counts cash and says "the order was $49?" I say no, it was $39. Well worker charged $10 more than order was supposed to be. So GF calls, brings up $10 discrepancy and worker states she only took one $100 bill in the morning. Well, she didn't remember me or the order or my dog which she commented on his barking. In other words she called me and GF a liar. The receipt I was given, had time of sale, but not order price and it had dined out on receipt too. Needless to say, GF and I are pissed, owner is supposed to call Sunday morning (let's see if he does) concerning the order being tagged a dining out ticket we think the thief, eerrrrrr...... worker put $10 in pocket as a "tip" so register won't be over by $10. The thing is, yes pissed about being shortchanged by worker, being called a liar, but believe you me, we don't need to pull a grifter scam for $10. GF and I like to eat out & when we come across a place we like, (especially a locally owned small business) we give it our dollars. So, if owner has lying thieves working his counter, and does nothing about a legit ripoff, he'll lose a lot of business not just from us, but from other fellow foodies. read more

I reviewed Macray's seafood 5 years ago and the fried clams were great.I went yesterday and was very disappointed.I got a large order of fried clams for $28 dollars and over half of them had no bellies,but were just strips.Fries were good.I will not be going back.What has happened to this place.They are no longer a clam shack.They have extended their menu with many items.They should get back to basics,in my opinion . read more

Apparently MaCrays original restaurant was the best of its kind for fresh seafood. We love fresh seafood. I am also a French fried potato connoisseur. Always looking for that hand cut dark French fry with that deep flavor. If you know what I mean. The kind few make. They can be had at those wonderful harvest fairs. But I digress. The piece of fish was definitely fresh, battered crispy and cooked perfectly. The fries were pale and tasting of the oils they were cooked not, not flavorful at all. The coleslaw was freshly made and lightly touched with mayonnaise. So that was good. But those fries were not good. The person who took my order was certainly nice enough. No complaints there. But I won't be back. For those fries there is Stanley's restaurant in Central Falls. A really nice little place. Highly recommend. My wife and I have been waiting to try MacRays ever since they bought the original recipe and name from MacRays in westport. Don't know what went wrong but it's nothing like the original in Westport. Clam cakes were heavy and rubbery and the clams Had huge bellies and were not crispy like MacRays original. Sorry to say it did not meet our expectations. read more

Went on 4/7/2017 and there was a line so big (shocked) that there was no end or start to line. The outside window to pick up should have been open. Total chaos. No ticket system. Anyway, this causes confusion because people don't know how to form lines and act civil and one lady that should have been on a treadmill made a comment on how I cut her in line when I was there before her. But that isn't their fault (kinda was)... Fish and Chips were just about as bad as it gets. Average grocery store fish with crappy batter. About 50% less fries than acceptable. One little packet of Tatar sauce. Get a better meal out of a McDonald's filet o fish. read more

Sorely disappointed. After hearing so many people speak well of it we decided to give them a shot. Our order consisted of two fish and chips, clam cakes and chowder, costing almost $40. For the price i'd assumed we got the large order of fish and chips, but i doubt a single piece of fish counts as a large. I will say the fish was the best thing outta the meal, tender and flaky. Sadly it goes downhill from there.. The fries were soggy and cold. The coleslaw that came with it had what looked to be the core of the cabbage in it. The clam cakes were also cold and had zero clams inside of them. Lastly the clam chowder may as well have been called potato soup, which had a large layer of grease floating on it. My stuffy was all bread stuffing, if there was any form of seafood in it I did not notice. Not impressed at all. The only thing missing from Macray's is the beach. Yes it is in Tiverton, but not in a beachy area. No water view in sight. However, it is scallop season and they are still open on the weekends through October 30th and I definitely recommend you head over for the scallop dinner. $16.99! Yes, it is all fried, but once in a while you have to feed the soul. The owner was there, a nice guy, came out to chat with us, offered us some free clam cakes to try. They are excellent. Disappointed in our dinner tonight. Fried clams and scallops, were barely cooked! Scallops has no breading, they were very wet and greasy.

We were there on a Thursday evening, October 1st. My friend and I split the seafood platter. It was amazing. Everything was fried so lightly and so well, we were very impressed! The outside dining was really fun and they had heat lamps in case it started to get cold (which we didn't think it was but some of the other tables were enjoying the heat lamps). The service was great and the atmosphere was just....fun! We'll definitely return (we hear they are getting a tent!) read more

This year when they reopened for the season I stopped in because I was excited to have there fried clams. My order was over $80 this included a large fried clam at I think it was $28.99. When I got home I was so disappointed the clams where so over cooked they where not edible. The onion ring went in the trash the fish was ok. But Today on my way home I decided to stop again and give it another shot. Everyone has bad days . Well guess what it was awful again! The clam are so over cooked they are hard to even chew.
