    Deviled eggs from hell
    Ryan B.

Review for The Back Eddy - Westport, MA Rolled in on a Monday evening, solo at first because my other half was running fashionably late (emphasis on the fashionably). I asked the hostess if I could still snag a table for two, even though I was flying solo for the moment, and she smiled and said, "No problem." Honestly? Bless her. Some places treat you like you're trying to pull off a bank heist if your full party isn't present. The vibe? Laid-back coastal cool with just enough buzz to feel alive without needing to shout over the table. The kitchen's wide open, so you can watch the culinary chaos--or genius--unfold. And that view? Pure postcard. Boats gently bobbing in the bay, sun dipping low like it's trying to flirt with the horizon. You will feel like you're in a Nicholas Sparks novel--but with better food. While I waited, they brought me a tiny bowl of house-made pickles. Tiny bowl, big flavor. Thick-cut, briny, just the right amount of pucker. I sipped on a Buzzards Bay Local Flounder--golden, smooth, and perfect for a summer evening. Then I got bold and ordered the "Deviled Eggs from Hell." And By the power of Greyskull and questionable life choices, they did not disappoint! Light, flaky, spicy little flavor bombs. If Hell is serving these, hand me a pitchfork. Once my date arrived (cue applause), we dove into small plates like it was our job. The Maine mussels? Drenched in hoisin, coconut milk, and spice--like Thai street food met a Cape Cod fisherman and made magic. Bonus points for the thick-cut toasted bread they serve on the side, ideal for sauce-mopping. (And yes, we mopped.) Next came the stuffed clams with chorizo and corn--so good we barely made eye contact. Gone in sixty seconds. For our token attempt at balance, we shared a green salad, and it was actually lovely. Crisp greens, fresh veggies, and a vinaigrette that knew how to stay in its lane--flavorful without being clingy. The service? Stellar. My waitress was a gem, but even the rest of the team checked in, topped off water, dropped off plates, and sprinkled in a little friendly banter. It felt like everyone was in on making the night special. Would I come back? In a heartbeat. With or without my date. Preferably with. But either way, I'm ordering the deviled eggs again.

Good spot to chill by the water after a long day at the beach. They have a number of different seating options outside. Food prices are in the $20-$40 range. We got the classic fish and chips and the grilled swordfish. The fish and chips were quite good. The fish was lightly battered and fried just right. Service was very good. Overall it was a good experience though a bit pricey. Parking is somewhat limited.

One of the best restaurants on the Farm Coast. The chowder is terrific and excellent fish and chips. It is always busy during the summer, but the outside bar on the dock is a great place to grab a beverage while you wait for a table.

The weather the day I went was ideal. The cold lobster roll is a decent offering. At $28, it's not super expensive, compared to spots closer to Boston. While it's not a huge roll, the lobster was decently tender and had modest flavor. It did not have too much mayo or filler. Not the most amazing lobster I've ever had but it's a good offering. The frozen lemonade, while it's about 8-10 oz, is nice deal at $2. The drink was smooth and not too sweet. Service was friendly enough and did not negate the good experience. The restaurant was clean and tidy, which can be the opposite at some of these clam/lobster shacks.

I just heard about Westport Sea Farms and thought I would give it a try on a beautiful Sunday early…read moreevening. It was packed with a 40 min wait. While we sat on the bench to get a table assigned to us we had a drink. For those who love frozen drinks this is your Mecca. There is a huge variety to choose from. I will caution you they are very pricing at $16 a glass. The better option is a flight of 4 small glasses for $21. The menu is extremely limited with a focus on oysters and lobster rolls. They do have a small bowl of chowder for $8. Again pricey for a cup but it was delicious. Now I am a lobster roll snob so I had to be critical. The serving of meat for a $28 roll that comes with chips was sufficient. My one critique that took away a full star is the mayo was very watery and made the hot dog roll very mushy. That is a huge turn off for me. If I go again I would ask for the lobster plain and get the mayo or butter on the side. The view is lovely and the staff very friendly so it is definitely worth the trip.

Review for The Bayside Restaurant - Westport, MA Sand, suds,…read moreand that sweet, sweet lobstah! Anytime I find myself in Dartmouth, there's one non-negotiable: a pilgrimage to The Bayside. It's not just a restaurant--it's a seaside ritual. A full-on coastal vibe check. By day, this place hums with a tide of locals and sun-kissed visitors, all riding that same salty wavelength. The outside seating? Chef's kiss. Whether you're perched at the surfboard table (yes, really), chilling by the firepit, or posted up at the outdoor bar chillin' in the shade or soaking in the rays (depending on time of day), it always feels like a low-key beach party. Add in that Scooby-Doo-style van hawking t-shirts and tank tops and you've got yourself a beach fiesta postcard . Drink-wise, they're reppin' the South Coast with a rotating lineup of New England brews and a cocktail menu that says "kick off those flip flops and stay a while." The chowder? Clam or seafood--either one is a pregame MVP. Creamy, flavorful, and loaded with sea-kissed goodness. But the main event? That lobstah roll. Oh baby. Warm. Nekked. Buttered. No mayo nonsense (that's how I roll). Just pure, buttery shellfish glory piled high in a toasted split-top roll. Served with fries that actually hold their own--crispy, salty, and impossible to stop picking at even after you "swear you're full." Service stays solid despite the crowd--friendly, laid-back, and on point with the refills and check-ins. They know what they're doing, even when the patio's packed and the orders are flying. The Bayside is a beach town legend. Come for the lobstah roll, stay for the surfboard tables, the sun-soaked vibes, and the kind of carefree energy that makes you wish you lived on a boat. (Or one of them campers along the coast)

I went on a rainy Monday around noon and there was still a steady flow of customers. It seems to be a pretty popular spot. The staff is all very friendly. The soups were served to us immediately after paying. The New England Clam Chowder was good. Nice amount of clams and very creamy. I had never had Rhode Island Clam Chowder before and this seemed like the place to try it. The clear broth was surprisingly flavorful but I still prefer New England. My girlfriend and I ordered a good amount and the food came out pretty quickly. My favorite was the kung pao calamari. The squid was fried perfectly and having the sauce on the side was nice as it didn't leave the breading to get all soggy and I had control over how sweet it would be. The stuffed Quahogs tasted good but I feel like I tasted more of the stuffing over the actual shellfish. It still tasted good, but I feel like I should've gotten more shellfish. We were told they ran out of shells to serve them on so the presentation was off, but they were still tasty. The lobster rolls were both good. They were $27 which seems pretty steep to me but they were actually on the cheaper side compared to other places we saw around Newport. The lobster tasted fresh and the bread was good. They were solid lobster rolls. The food was all solid, but for the price I wasn't wowed.
