Came here for a cute date night and it did not disappoint! Love this place and the ambiance was so cute! I would definitely come back here and recommend this place to anyone who is around. The service was great and my waiter was super helpful explaining everything on the menu. Parking was a hassle but uber would be your best option.
I need to go here for their happy hours (wings are cheaper, $2 oyster during certain days etc) cause the atmosphere was laid back and dim and not too crazy but the menu also looked interesting for a place I thought was just a bar haha!! had their pretzel and it was soft and fluffy and the perfect amount of salt and need to go back to try more of their light bites!!
Nice lush space for cocktails and bites. We tried a couple of drinks from their menu and their chicken tenders and fries. Cocktails were well prepared and tasty. Service was welcoming and well paced. They get very busy in there! Chicken tenders were outstanding and delicious. Fries were a great side. I recommend getting the tenders with bbq sauce added. It was fun to try all their house dips. They are all really good! Finished it off with their Midnight Mookie cocktail which is essentially their espresso martini. Fun spot.
Love this spot- for a quick drink with friends, for a girls night, or for even a date night, this place is great! It is currently decorated for Christmas and is very cute. I have never dined here but the cocktails are unique and all great. My one recommendation- get the p*rnstar martini, it is great!! The service is also fabulous- the bartenders and servers give great recommendations and even offered to make my friend another drink because she didn't like the one she chose! Macondray's is a great neighborhood spot and I look forward to being back many, many more times!
This was my second time at Macondray and first time trying the food! Drinks here definitely don't disappoint - had the hot cider and a drink that tasted like pine from the holiday menu and we both loved them! Also wow - the soft pretzel was amazing! although the price was kind of steep for a pretzel essentially cant even be shared with 2 people without someone getting hangry... Sitting outside was also shockingly cozy even though it was a little cold - the heat lamps worked their magic! Still love sitting inside at the bar and chatting with the bartender I spoke to last time! Will be back soon :)
Came here during Santa Con so of course it was bustling and crowded but we were able to get drinks pretty quickly. They have great Christmas decor and festive holiday drinks but perhaps with the crowds, quality faltered a bit and we thought that while the drinks were quick heavy on the alcohol, most of them were a letdown given how exciting they sounded on the menu. I'll have to come back during a normal night and give it another try.
Dropped in during happy hour for some oysters and drinks! Cute decor with lots of greenery and a chill vibe. Great area for casual bar hopping. Would definitely come again!
Great place to grab a drink + bites with friends or a date! Drinks are ~$16 with a range of different options. Our group got the midnight mookie, perfect celebrity and huckleberry mule! The huckleberry mule was on the tart side and you could really taste the ginger which was yummy. If you love a good mule, this is a no-brainer. The perfect celebrity was also delicious! It was the perfect combo of smoky, sweet and spicy -- I'd probably order this next time for myself. The midnight mookie was a bit of a letdown since the hazelnut, coconut milk flavors were definitely not there? It tasted a bit like a watered down espresso martini. Was hoping it'd be a bit creamier too. We also ordered some tater tots & chicken tenders, both were so good! Loved the herb aioli & dipping sauces that came with both.
Fast friendly service Food was buttery and light, not at all like a pretzel Drink was like drinking juice. You don't taste an ounce of alcohol. Could be dangerous. I'll opt for wine next time. Very date night or catch up with friends vibes Apple Pay taken. Damage: $30 for one drink and one pretzel thank you!
Great place for happy hour and love the old timey feel of the place. Came here on a weeknight for the oysters deal, and they were good. I also couldn't resist a lobster roll, and that was so delicious and filling. Service was a bit slow that night though despite there only being two or three tables of people when we were there.
What an exceptional experience! The cocktails were unique, beautifully balanced, and full of flavor ~ absolute perfection. We ordered several small bites, each one delicious and perfectly paired with our drinks. Everything arrived warm and impressively fast. Despite being busy, the service was excellent ~ attentive, friendly, and professional. A true gem for anyone who appreciates craft cocktails and thoughtful food. Loved the ambiance! Very well designed. Recommend!
TL;DR: ok drinks, kinda expensive. Didn't try the food though. I had read a lot about this place and was excited to try, so I popped in one afternoon after lunch. Many reviews say the food is pretty good too but I was too full to order anything. The interior of the bar is very pretty, and has lots of nice hanging plants and a big bar. Service was friendly and quick. I ordered two drinks, one passion fruit cocktail and something else. They were... Fine. Considering how many great cocktail bars in the area, I was surprised that these were just moderately good with low complexity. They don't stand out to me knowing that there are many options out there. Prices are standard for SF, which means that the cocktails were kinda expensive. I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately, I don't think I'll be back.

Great place for a fancy cocktail and a heart snack. A friend and I popped in on a Sunday late afternoon right when they opened at 4:30. We snagged a spot outside to people (and dog) watch. We had plans to get dinner somewhere else, but after ordering our cocktails - we decided to just grab a nosh here. I was pushing for the fried cheese, but was thwarted. We ordered the chicken fingers and the wrinkle cut fried. Both a perfect accompaniment for our fancy drinks. The chicken fingers were excellent and a nice hearty portion. read more
I'm a chicken finger chick to my core and these chicken fingers were bomb. Crispy. Crunchy. And delicious. The ranch was solid. Homemade. They had lots of plants on the walls and the service was quick. Come during happy hour for great deals! read more
My boyfriend and I stepped into Macondray for a cocktail after dinner on Polk St.! I love the ambiance, and the bar service was extremely friendly. The seating is surrounded by greenery that resembles a trendy San Francisco plant store. In the very back there is a second story booth where a DJ was playing music. The cocktails were delicious, and we greatly enjoyed continuing our date night here. read more
Really cute vibes inside, but pricey food for the portion size. Not sure if I'd come back for a full meal, but maybe for a light snack. The service was a little funny because we had three different servers the whole time, and they kept coming up to us... to ask the same things. Lobster roll bites (5/5): Yum! Love these, but the portions are pretty small. Chicken tenders (4/5): Unlike what some other reviewers wrote, I didn't think it was anything special. Standard. Summer corn salad (4.5/5): Super refreshing and a very nice crunch. Mac and cheese (4/5): Standard again, nothing that unique about it. Very creamy and cheesy. read more
GREAT for drinks and hot dates! Service may be a little slow sometimes but don't panic- the wait is worth it. There's a di playing music that's privately nestled upstairs. Check the website for genre and cadence. Shoutout to the man working the front area so efficiently- and getting my hubby and I seated so quickly despite a very busy night. You made the flow of the evening really smooth with new people constantly walking in. Well done Haven't tried the food - but the fancy bar food menu looked fuego. read more

This place is a solid choice for bites, a full meal, and fun cocktails. Super cute atmosphere inside and also pretty decent outdoor seating for then they get full. I ordered this cocktail that was called the bunny and it was one of my favorite cocktails I've had. I also had their Sauvignon blanc which was alright. We also got some appetizers to share amongst the table which was perfect to keep us all snacking through a nice happy hour. Good all around! read more

5/29/2021 Quarantine Day 439 My friend and I went to Macondray's for a late night snack and some drinks. Parking in this area is a little tricky, but I was lucky and only parked like 3-4 blocks away near my friend's airBNB. This was my first time in a long while at a bar since the pandemic. It was nice to see that the place was filled with people, everyone was having a good time and the music was groovy (who says that word anymore?? but the word fitted with the feeling that night). We were able to get a table relatively fast and after our waitress cleaned the table, we browsed the menu for food and drink. I forgot to take pictures of the beers, but here is the food we got to share: 1. Mac and cheese 2. Fried chicken tenders These two dishes were piping hot as they came fresh out of the kitchen. We got three dipping sauces for the chicken tenders. The chicken tenders were so good! They were crunchy on the outside, juicy and tender inside. The mac and cheese was also very yummy and had the perfect amount of cheese and seasoning. Thank you for fulfilling our late night cravings! Would definitely return :) read more

Love the server!! Food is amazing, oysters are buttery. Love the service , food and they gave my puppy treats and water too! read more
Wonderful neighborhood cocktail bar, inventive cocktail menu, elevated bar food, nice staff, although the music is always just a bit too loud so I don't recommend bring friends or family here if you are wanting to talk/catch up as it can be hard to hear one another, especially once the space is full. read more
TL;DR - I did not feel like I was in San Francisco!! Great drinks and food. Happy hour all day Sunday and Monday. And other days 5-6pm for oysters. Exceptional restaurant. I saw that multiple people were there on what looked like first dates, so I gotta say - take her here, if you're reading this review. There is tons of bar space, if you're not committed to food yet. The drinks are top notch, for $14 you get some awesome specialty cocktails, Vesper even has a lavender essence that is lit! I ordered a Hit Me Baby One More Thyme, and that was fantastic too. We ordered: - fries - chicken tender tossed with buffalo sauce and all the sauces with my favorite being the tangy honey mustard - mussels - loved the bread it came with - chicken sandwich - nothing too exciting to write home about but still good. - mini burger which still looked like a regular sized burger Overall great amazing. I loved the decor, and the service was on par. We love a Sagittarius server. read more
Come for the vibe, stay for the food. We can here with friends and we're able to huddle in the back booth. It was cozy and our server was very helpful with our requests and needs as a large group. Plan ahead if you have a larger group because most of the seating is for 2 people and they'll have to adjust accordingly. Loved it! read more

This bar is it, it's exactly what the Bay Area needs. I'm glad I came here, as soon as we arrived we waited a bit then were seated comfortably. I really loved the energy of all the employees they were fast and efficient. But they were also professional and friendly. I loved seeing that other people recognize them because it wasn't their first time there. That tells you a lot about the business. Being packed is one thing but being able to have people return when parking is limited and sometimes there's a bit of a wait is something. I enjoyed my food it was fucking delicious, like top tier I really tasted all the flavors. If anyone says otherwise do not trust their taste palate. I've been around and I can tell you what doesn't taste right. This was one of a kind and yet they are small portions but totally worth it, because you get to explore the menu. The drinks were so good, there wasn't a drink I tasted that I disliked. They are one of those places you will exceed your stay because the energy is on point, the drinks are on point, and so is the ambiance. I noticed a detail I'd like to point out that not many places have is the menu of the DJs and type of music being played. I liked it because it shows you what you can return to. My waiter was very sweet and attentive although it was a super busy night even one of the girls there was attentive also although she was not our bartender. I don't know though who they have in that kitchen but for management ensure you find ways to keep them. All the employees you have made this place stand out, because it's hard to find something in the Bay Area that isn't either bland, boring, and or lacking inclusivity. You definitely be seeing us again! And I would definitely be recommending this beautiful restaurant. read more

my friend and i decided to come here on a whim for after work drinks and food! the inside itself was very nice, clean, and well decorated with a lot of plants! they have outdoor, indoor, and bar seating. we were seated at a table closer to the entrance. we were served immediately and our server was very friendly and answered our questions about their drink menu. i ordered the tequila slushee and it was about a 7/10. i didn't really taste the other ingredients. the drink was also quite strong. even though i mixed it up throughout drinking it, the last third of the drink wasn't very tasty. for food we got the chicken tenders and fries. the portions here are huge and we definitely did not need separate orders. one order of each is enough for two! i would definitely come back here and try more food and drink. the location is also great in polk gulch with a lot of other bars and food around. overall a very trendy place! read more

This place was amazing! Hipster holiday vibes paired well with my holiday drinks. Pictured is the James Chong Lavender Vesper, completed with a lavender j (rolled lavender to cleanse the drink and air). I also tried the pumpkin sour - a little odd for my taste, but still fun to try! read more
seems like the menu rotates occasionally. tried the midnight mookie, pornstar, undead buddha, all an illusion. the all an illusion tasted lightly of alcohol and is great for those who prefer weaker cocktails that deliver different flavors cohesively. the undead buddha was citrusy and very refreshing! read more
Extremely disappointed with the service, drinks, and food. When we first walked in the bartender pointed to tables to sit at, but then somehow forgot to take our order after 20 minutes of being there. It wasn't terribly busy but there were only two bartenders working. Also noticed that they were both taking a couple shots on the job while we waited for them to take our order. When he did take our drink order he rushed off before I had to tell him that I also wanted to order food. It felt like I was a bother and that was inconveniencing them. The drinks were very average and not too strong. The chicken sandwich was very oily and was smaller than I thought it would be. Maybe I'll have better luck next time? read more

What a neighborhood gem!!! Came here to try their lobster roll and was impressed with not just that, but with everything about this very cute & cozy place! I highly recommend the lobster rolls and the fish and chips. The fish was so fresh and delicious on its own that I didn't want to hide it with sauce or vinegar like I usually would do at other places. My only suggestion for them is to have an option for fries instead of chips. Their chips were nice and crunchy but I like fries with my fish. Another great perk is that they have happy hour from 5-6pm everyday. We saw some pretty cool specialty drinks around but we opted for the happy hour wine which paired nicely with our seafood dishes. Our server was super friendly and attentive. Check this place out with a group of friends or for a romantic evening date. read more

Stopped here for a cocktail and some small bites - not anything over the top but a very quintessentially "cool and Vibey" cocktail bar - decor was super cute and I can see this being a great first date bar (not intimidating ", but still hip). The espresso martini was great and the small bite apps (mozzarella balls, chicken tenders) were a perfect snack. Loved the music they were playing too...Apparently they have DJs come in Friday and Saturday 6-10pm; didn't get to experience this but would totally come back for that! read more

Cute place to catch up with a friend or go on a date! There's no reservations, but we arrived around 6pm on Friday and there was a 30 minute wait. There's lot of places to check out on Polk, so it goes by fast. Ambiance (4/5): It was packed and music was playing, but my friend and I were able to converse easily. The lighting is dim and there are cute plants all over. It's like a more hip/young version of the Arcana wine bar in the Mission. Drinks (5/5): I tried the Mudslide, one of their frozen drinks. It was vodka, baileys, coffee liquor, and coconut milk topped with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle. It tasted like an alcoholic hot chocolate. They also poured generously because I felt it! Food: The highlight was the brussel sprouts, which were fried, crispy, and perfectly salted with cheese layered on top. read more
I was looking for a place to grab a bite to eat past 9:45 PM and a lot of places in San Francisco close at 10. Macondray stays open till 11 which was convenient and the food blew away my expectations. It has a New England atmosphere to it which was appealing. The drink menu is great, they have a lot of beers, wines, and their cocktails are fascinating. I am an avid fan of lobster rolls which is why when I saw that it was on the menu for $23 I had to indulge. It was done Maine Style which is in my opinion, the second best way to prepare it (behind a Connecticut Lobster Roll). Even though the lobster had some mayonnaise on it, the New England Roll being buttered made up for it. It was surprisingly filling despite how small it may look in the photo. The lobster was fresh and literally melted in my mouth. If I were to come back to this place I would get this. The Bay Chips that were on the side were unique. They had a dry spice seasoning on them that was flavorful. It paired well with the lobster roll and it was highlighted by our server who said that these chips are his favorite. I recommend coming to this place, enjoying a drink, and trying their fine food. It is somewhat on the pricey side but not expensive. It stays open later than other restaurants so it will satisfy a late-night craving that you may have. read more

My partner and I stopped in on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon and the outdoor seating area was all taken, so we headed inside. We ordered a Hot Todd Tea and a Flight of the Concord. My partner really enjoyed his boozy cider ("Can we make this at home?") and I loved my grape drink! We ordered a half dozen oysters and deviled eggs to nibble on and really enjoyed both as well. The interior is really cute and well-decorated - even more so now with the holidays approaching! The vibe was really relaxed when we stopped in (we were the only ones inside at the time) but I know this place gets packed later in the evening. The drinks and staff were all excellent and I'm glad to have finally visited after living in the neighborhood for over a year! I will absolutely be back. read more
This was our first stop before our Saint Patrick's Day bar crawl. Pretty affordable cocktails for the city and I loved how they had a vegan martini espresso-like drink! There was also a vodka, fruit and seltzer cocktail that was sooo good, I believe it was called All an Allusion. There weren't very many vegan food options but the brussel sprouts (hold the parmesan) were delectable. read more
