Guava sour

Mezcalito is such a fun and chill Mexican restaurant with great food and fun drinks! Every time I've been here I've gotten the quesadilla and I have never been disappointed. While they don't have hot sauce, their spicy salsa is so good and addicting. If you get Kenji as your waiter you won't be disappointed! He was so attentive and fun! Will be back to try and make it to their happy hour and maybe get a flight!

Never disappoints! I was there for happy hour and got their burger. Only $10 and definitely one of the best burgers and fries in the area! Also they have a new "girl dinner" that they added to their specials which I am excited to try when I am back next.

Stopped by for taco Tuesday even though we didn't end up getting tacos . You can get 2 tacos for $12 all day long. They also have a great happy hour deal on week days. The pull pork quesadilla was amazing and I highly recommend their spicy marg or one of their mezcal cocktails. Great place for dates or a girls night out!

Tacos & chips and guac

Nice ambiance and really kind service, but the price is high for what you get. The tacos were super yummy, but around $8-10 per taco. Chips and guac were solid, but nothing special. Good for happy hour, a date or somewhere to catch up with a friend where the ambiance is doing the heavy lifting.

though this is technically a restaurant, I usually come here for the cocktails. Honestly, it's probably the best cocktail bar in the area tied with Bar Iris. They have an excellent mezcal and tequila cocktail list, plus a lot of more culinary-style drinks that feel thoughtful and well balanced. I almost always order the mezcal Negroni, but there are so many good options that it's hard to go wrong.

Scallop tostaditos (bite size)..small but yummy.

Chips and salsa were tasty. Scallop tostaditos were yum also. Only reason this is 3 stars is because Drink came out after we were done with dinner, and waiter seemed too busy to truly take care of us. We asked for receipt and waited and waited...finally decided to leave. Cool outdoor patio and lighting.

Corn appetizer.

I walked in with a friend at 6pm on Saturday night. It was just crowded enough to get a window indoor seat. Awesome. Happy hour on a Saturday so my friend got the tacos. I decided to get the kale salad. We shared the corn salsa-y with chips appetizer. Great service to take our order and give recommendations. Then our server left. Once we saw her again it was after we already asked someone else for a to go box. My salad definitely needed a knife to cut up the lettuce kale pieces. It was more work than I wanted because the bites were too big unless I chopped my own salad. Prices were good for Russian Hill. I could see going back and sitting at the bar.

Happy Hour Burger with extra house sauce. $12.00 as of June 2025

I love coming here for the happy hour specials and the awesome vibes! They've got a solid lineup of food deals, but the happy hour burger is the real winner--just $12 for a seriously tasty bite!

Cool ambiance and great margaritas. Highly recommend ordering any margarita and the enchilada suizas. Great spot to hangout with friends.

Came to check out the happy hour -Tacos - 3.5/5 - Pretty solid, the meat ratio was good and they were pretty juicy. The pineapple gives a nice boost of flavor and pickled veggies with the salsa kick it up a notch. I will say that the meat didn't taste savory enough, and was over powered by everything else in the taco. - The drinks here were pretty good, but pretty expensive for a happy hour menu. - The service here was nice, and the spot had a chill vibe to end the evening. The area does have better deals for happy hour but this spot does have some decent tacos.

I liked the ambiance. I've been a few times now because I live in the area. The interior is great except I wish the high tables in the middle were regular height tables + the high ceiling and seating's proximity to the front door makes the restaurant a bit drafty / cold this time of year. We got mescal flights and they were good.

Chips, salsa, guacamole

The food here was actually really good, but the service completely ruined the experience. My friend forgot her ID and went home to get it. When she came back and showed it, the waitress started treating us like we were trying to scam her, insinuating we were sharing IDs. She even made me show mine just to "check" we weren't using the same one. It was awkward and unnecessary. Then my friend ordered a drink that tasted off, barely took a sip, and asked for a new one. They still tried to charge her for the original drink she didn't even drink. Overall, the attitude from our server Kate was judgmental and made us feel unwelcome. The experience was just such a shame because the food was actually great.

Came here for a private birthday party. The room was very nice but can get a little hot since it's on the smaller side. Drinks were yum, got the daily Margarita skinny style so that it was not too sweet! I recommend the guava flavor if they have. The portions for food are big here so I'm glad we didnt order too much! For my entree I got the fish tacos they were very yummy with the salsas and the fish size was huge! I would come again for a happy hour .

The upstairs area is pretty cute with a large table, and the groups there can often get very loud FYI. Drinks were good too.

Kids?? Is it friendly enough for kids where mom and dad want to get out?

This really isn't a place to bring children. It's really an adult place maybe with teenagers but not children or babies. If mom and dad wanna go out, they should get a babysitter.

While we were outside, we made friendly conversation with a bartender. I overheard another bartender come out for a cigarette and call him by name, so I jokingly used his name while asking if we could come in. At that point, the bartender became extremely aggressive, got in my face, and said, "Say his name one more f*cking time," repeatedly. I was genuinely confused and asked what she meant. Shortly after, a friend who was already inside came out simply to check on us and see why we were still outside. The bartender then told her to "get the f*ck out of my face" and instructed staff not to let her or us in, even though my friend hadn't done anything wrong. It was so confusing and extremely inappropriate. The behavior was unnecessarily hostile and disrespectful. This bar does not treat its customers with basic courtesy, and that bartender showed zero professionalism or customer service skills.

The Pomegranate Nice with non-alcoholic gin instead of non-alcoholic tequila, Negroni Sbagliato, and Blood Orange Gimlet were solid. I first walked through its…read moredoors in the late 1990s after moving to San Francisco, but the bar itself dates back to 1933, opening right as Prohibition was ending. It was founded by Anton "Tony" Nikitovich and quickly became a gathering place for the neighborhood's Italian and Croatian communities, where people came to swap stories, argue politics, and enjoy a stiff drink after a long day. And honestly, that tradition carried on well into the years when many of us became regulars. I hadn't been back for a few years until recently, when I decided to stop in again. The bar wasn't overly busy, but a handful of neighborhood folks were sitting at the counter, trading stories over their drinks. It felt instantly familiar. Not much has changed since the early 2000s when I used to come here regularly, and that's exactly what makes Tony Nik's special. Step inside, and it still feels like a mid-century film set: tufted leather seating, a long wooden bar that's seen nearly a century of San Francisco history, and that iconic neon sign glowing outside. While much of the city has reinvented itself again and again, Tony Nik's somehow held onto its soul. It's a grown-up bar without being stuffy, no loud club music, no trendy gimmicks, just well-made cocktails, a classic jukebox, and an atmosphere that feels earned rather than manufactured. The bar stayed in the Nikitovich family for decades, and the current owners were wise enough to preserve both the name and the vintage character Tony originally created. It's one of those rare places that reminds you what North Beach used to be, and, thankfully, still is.
