Machi Sushi's food, service, and ambiance are a great addition to Georgetown's food scene. Let's begin with the food. I've only tried the AYCE, but I have been joined by folks who tried the à la carte options, such as the bento boxes. The rolls are divided into two major sections on the menu: raw and cooked. I've tried several from each and am pleased with everything I've tried. The most important thing to note: ALL sushi is made TO ORDER. This means you will not be eating something that was made 10 or 20 minutes ago and picked on by passersby (like on a traditional buffet). These rolls are prepared by their chefs as they're ordered. Another important thing - the rolls and the nigiri are not huge balls of rice with your choice of topping. The rice ball is modest, well seasoned, and served at the expected temperature (not chilled). My favorite roll is the Skinny Girl. It is a roll of black pepper-crusted seared tuna and rice. The contrast between the subtle sweetness of the rice and the black pepper, and the rare interior tuna vs. the seared outer tuna, is just delicious. Another favorite is the Dragon Roll ,hich is grilled unagi (eel), avocado, and rice with eel sauce drizzled atop. The unagi is tender, but also crisp along the edges. The sweetness of the sauce complements the toasty bits perfectly. Like BBQ. I've also tried several appetizers such as calamari, sesame balls, udon noodle stir fry, and fried rice with various proteins. I'm a fan of Japanese-styled fried rice. Machi's is no different. It's great. The udon noodles are sauced a bit heavy, but are deliciously chewy and well seasoned. The calamari is usually perfectly fried, yielding a tender morsel of calamari contrasted against the crunchy exterior. But sometimes the calamari can be a bit overcooked, leading to a chewier ring - delicious, but not as much as when it is fried just right. The sesame balls are a mainstay for Asian AYCE for me. I love them. Machi's are good - but only so. They tend to be a bit oil laden which means the oil was probably not the right temperature when they plopped in. I don't know why, but they are served with a chocolate sauce. It's an interesting addition, but unnecessary, and it detracts from the lightly sweetened red bean paste interior. I've also tried an assortment from their nigiri fish/rice only menu. I always ask for white tuna, tuna, red snapper, and salmon. The pieces are a bit smaller than you might be accustomed to, but they're great, and you can order quite a number of them (up to 20). Next, let me talk about the service. We've been on several occasions now. Random impromptu first time at lunch, then another at lunch time when a friend joined us last minute (we were already seated and receiving food), and even dinner and weekends. Each time, the servers were prompt and courteous. Sometimes things pick up rather suddenly, and despite the apparent plethora of staff, they get a bit bogged down. Just plan accordingly. Order your drinks and appetizers, and your other starters, such as fried rice, etc. Plan to place your order for entree items when they bring the initial order out, etc. This makes optimal use of your time and theirs. Reminder: they are preparing the food as you order it. Imagine grocery shopping. If you make a list and shop once, it's one trip. If you keep forgetting stuff and have to go back, each trip consumes time. This is the same with this format service. If you need something mid-chow-down, just look for the nearest waitstaff and wave your hand - they can take your order or beckon your waiter for you. It's not a big deal. Finally, let me say a few words about the ambiance. For Georgetown, and particularly an AYCE, I feel like Machi's is well done. It feels cozy, but also a bit sophisticated with its wall paneling, lighting choices, and pergola-styled booths. The sushi kitchen is in plain sight and has a nice paneled backdrop that adds visual interest. Machi can be a casual date night or simply lunch/dinner with friends and family. Don't forget the cocktails! All in all, I'm happy we kept an eye on Machi's space over the months. We know that service and the experience will improve as the restaurant matures and patrons learn the format. This is a weird thing to say, but it is an important caveat: this isn't a 5* sushi joint. I've had some really expensive experiences, including non-AYCE options in town that elicited at most a "meh." Machi is just a modest and casual experience that is accessible, has great food, and is well done. Two final thoughts: Their soy sauce seems very thin. It isn't tamari. I'm not sure if it's just a reduced sodium soy sauce, or what. Their restrooms, thus far, seem well cared for. Thank goodness! Nothing like going into a bathroom to blow your nose or wash your hands and be horrified. read more

We were unfortunately pretty let down by our first visit to Machi Sushi. My husband and I went with our almost 2 year old. The biggest issue for us was our food service. Our waitress was knowledgeable about celiac disease and gluten allergies, which we really appreciated--she clearly explained what menu items were safe and how things could be modified. However, when our food started arriving, the first dish we were served was topped with bread crumbs. The person who brought it out wasn't our server and didn't seem to understand what "gluten-free" meant, which was concerning. Thankfully, our waitress corrected the mistake and had the roll remade properly but that still took about 20 minutes. After that, things continued to go downhill. We waited an additional 25-35 minutes beyond the that gluten error wait for the rest of our food. During that time, we had to ask at least four separate times for a side of spicy mayo and one of our specialty rolls. Each time we saw our waitress, we had to remind her, and even she seemed increasingly frustrated at the kitchen that the items hadn't made it to our table. At the end of the meal, the bill initially included everything. After my husband asked for an itemized receipt, the server did remove the roll that arrived very late, which we appreciated. Been here about 7 or 8 times since they opened. Food is great (always get the ayce) fish is fresh, salads and appetizers are delicious, rolls are fantastic. I used to go to sushi bang bang in cedar park regularly for good ayce but Machi sushi is so good I don't think I'll ever go back to my old spot. Service and ambiance are 10/10 as well. I was looking everywhere in Austin for a good weekday night All you can eat sushi buffet. We've been to almost every sushi place in town and I've noticed a big difference in weekend quality versus weekday night quality and have been disappointed before. Hence I was asking around even on another Austin food page to inquire where is a good weeknight spot for dinner and there were many mixed reviews until a fellow foodie friend reached out and told me why don't you try the new Machi sushi in Georgetown? I saw pictures of them eating there and they liked it a lot so I was excited to try it. They had a good experience at their soft opening and told us to try it so four of us went there for a belated b-day celebration and we were so excited. It's a bit far away up in Georgetown, but it was a nice scenic drive a little bit of traffic, fun shopping area to walk around which we did afterwards. When we got there we went inside and was so excited cause it's so pretty. It's such a pretty place and it kind of busy so that was a good sign. We sat down with the menu. The girl took our order and what we noticed right away is how untrained and unprofessional she was even though she was really sweet. So young lol She was very new and we gave her grace because we know this place just opened several days ago. I wish I could rate it higher, but I decided to give it three stars so that maybe they can work out some kinks before they fully open so that they will be more prepared and more people will come. It wasn't a bad experience per se. I've had worse not in Austin surprisingly but in Dallas where we recently tried a new sushi place. That was really bad bc the fish quality was bad and the rice was hard so it wasn't like that here and we enjoyed ourselves, but here is my take on the things that I didn't like~ the yellowtail, red snapper and even the tuna was not that great. I've been to many sushi places and sushi and good cuts of it should not be stringy it should be fresh. It should be not too fishy, and these three did not hit the spot. The salmon on the other hand was really good. I even got the sashimi and hand roll to try and it was really good so I was very happy with that. The surf clam also was very good. The octopus was OK for a few pieces but the second and third pieces wasn't so consistency to me matters, I didn't get it anymore. The miso soup tasted like dish water idk why. The rainbow roll and the spider roll was good so they got the rolls right I think even though the spider roll wasn't facing the right way lol However, the star of my whole dinner was the fried banana and the fried age tofu and that's kind of sad for a sushi place but those two things were really good. Everything else was meh and the calamari and the tempura was fine but the chicken wings were too big lol plus the funny thing is the shrimp tempura look at my pictures-They placed one in each dish so we had a pile of dishes and they kept doing that for even the sushi one piece on a huge dish so we had a pile of dishes big dishes. Another thing I know she's new but our waitress we kind of chuckled because she was very flustered. She flat right told us that she was so busy so tired and a little bit tired of the food seeing the food every day already and that she was serving multiple big tables. She got our orders wrong in and some never came out. She had to hand type each order like hand type and spell each one and she was having a hard time working the ordering pad so she missed some things. We had to re-order some things and some didn't come out so we got someone else's food, things like that. I'm sure that could be fixed in time since this is all new. She was funny in a way when I asked for recommendations she gave me a very blunt answer to not get this item because it wasn't good. I chuckled because she at least is honest, but I don't think that's something restaurant owners like them to say. The price point wasn't bad for all you can eat cause most sushi places are around $39 at night. There was only one place Kyoka that was $32 but I heard that place wasn't that great so we didn't go to that one so for the price point at $36 it wasn't bad but I did expect more. Must have fresher better quality fish. All the other things are fixable too plus they just opened anyway but yes, better quality fish would be good for the long run and just for better customer service more professionalism otherwise the place is real pretty like I said and I know they're trying and I know it's a very young staff so I have high hopes that it'll get better. read more

Loved checking out this new AYCE spot in Georgetown! Staff and vibes were wonderful, food was amazing! Prices were good, the menu offered a lot of options so it was hard choosing. Alcohol wise sake and margs were good just a little on the pricey side for size. We wanted to start with some appetizers and personally I was not a huge fan of the baked green mussels they had too much mayo, were tough, and very cold. My grandma and aunt got the udon and gyoza they loved both. I had the hamachi chili and seaweed salad to start. If you like a little spice and not bothered by raw fish definitely try the hamachi chili. All of the sashimi that we tried were 10/10 ! Sadly I forgot to take pics of so many plates but the pepper tuna was amazing, first time trying it loved it so much I ordered the skinny girl roll that was topped with it! My grandma got the cowboy roll and said it was delicious with the seared steak on top, kiss of fire roll and spicy tuna rolls were both very delicious as well. Server was inattentive and was very obviously drunk. Didn't get chopsticks, wasabi, or ginger for 15 minutes after getting food. Food was ok at best and the ambience was meh. When I walked in the decor was Amazing, You walk into a different realm.the seats are comfortable and the tables are big great for big groups. this was my first time so I wasn't too sure about the All you can eat, but it was amazing. The fried appetizers were so crunchy in the sauces with it were amazing. I ordered all the cooked and raw special rolls and each one had a different specific flavor that was amazing to try. Sashimi portions are extremely small. I ordered the sashimi dinner and they gave me all you can eat sized cuts. Fish cuts are the size of sugar packets, not to.mention extremely thin. Enjoyed eating there with a large group (Open Road Biker Church, Georgetown) a couple weeks ago; they handled us, & shrimp tempura wife & I both got was light, crisp, and good... and we are spoiled: two summers in a row we hosted a Japanese young lady learning English at IELS language school Austin, through "SonRise Homestay" mission; she was shocked at how Americans shopped infrequently and kept old food longer than done at home; so she began cooking for us! Including tempura, and various curry dishes from kid-friendly to hot... So we have a place in our heart for Japanese. The biggest issue was the service--we consistently waited a very long time between orders, our server was rarely available, and our desserts were not served together despite our request. Terrible new rule. The entire table has to select the same option, either All you can eat OR Al la carte. You cant do both because their "food costs have sky rocketed". So if someone doesn't eat sushi and it makes more sense to order off the menu, you can no longer do that. If your food costs have gone up, either cut down your portions, raise your prices, find a new vendor, etc. There is better business decisions that telling customers they are no longer welcome if they dont want to pay the high cost of All you can eat, even if they dont eat sushi. Tried Machi for lunch and did the AYCE option. I had the mango black tea milk, miso soup, crab rangoon, and a mix of sushi and rolls. For an AYCE sushi spot, the food quality was better than expected and definitely above average for this category. Everything came out quickly, and the hot items like the soup and tempura were actually hot and fresh. Service was great too. Our server was really nice, explained how everything worked, and pointed us toward some popular items, which made the first visit easy. The lunch AYCE price felt like a very solid value. We left feeling like we absolutely got our money's worth. Only real downside was that the nigiri protein selection didn't feel as broad as the rest of the menu. So if you're mainly going for a huge nigiri variety, that's probably the one weak spot. I didn't check how much the dinner AYCE menu changes, though. Overall, I'd give it a solid 4/5 for the AYCE sushi category in the Round Rock / Georgetown area. I'd definitely come back and want to try the dinner menu next. read more

We came in for the all-you-can-eat dinner and honestly, it started off strong. Our first round of rolls was so good, no notes. We were feeling confident, like wow okay we picked the right spot. As we were finishing round one, our server came by to take our round two order, so we were kind of scrambling to look at the menu and just asked for her recommendations. Then came round two... aka when we decided to trust the recommendations. She suggested some "popular" and more unique rolls, including something called the Houston roll. This thing came out hot, topped with crawfish and... Cheetos. Yes. Cheetos. I wish I was kidding. It felt less like sushi and more like a dare. Points for creativity, I guess, but the flavors were doing a little too much and not really in a good way. I totally get wanting to try fun, different things, but I do wish we had been guided toward the best of the menu instead of the most chaotic options available. There's a difference between "must-try" and "you have to see this to believe it." That being said, the first round proved they can absolutely make really good sushi. If I came back, I'd just trust my own instincts and maybe keep the Hot Cheeto seafood experiments to a minimum. read more

Our family of 5 (including 2 teenaged boys) ate dinner at Machi Sushi a couple of weeks ago and we all LOVED it! No one had any complaints about any of the food....sushi was fresh and beautifully prepared, the hibachi shrimp was yummy and the combo fried rice was amazing (I'm craving it right now!). This was a very nice experience. We have been by twice now. The more people you take the more fun it is. Usually, all you can eat Sushi is not my deal because the quality is compromised. This was not the case. This was not a limited menu either. Everything on the full menu was available for the all-you-can-eat option. Poor service! Waiters and waitresses standing around not working... no one ever took our order! Even when informing the hostess and a woman who seemed to be the manager of the issue, no one apologized or offered to seat us in a section where we could be serviced. It wasn't even full, so no excuse (6:25pm Friday night) And... we saw one of the waiters as we entered the restaurant outside talking to his friends and touching them, etc. He came back in and handled food immediately without handwashing or anything... Has great food and really good boba drinks, and the service is wonderful. The staff are friendly and make you feel welcome right away, and everything comes out fresh and tastes amazing.
