Definitely not quite what I expected. It's like the only place open in its plaza on a Saturday afternoon. The menu is huge, but they seem to be ready to.make anything on it. They have seating inside and outside, with Coca Cola soda machines and bottles both available. The cashier brought out my food, which is so hot the pan had a cover on the handle. Bread crumbs were recommended and enjoyed. It's still huge, even if you get a single portion. The one sad thing was for the dishes that included red sauce (looking at you, pizza mac), it was spaghetti. There was no cheese sauce mixed in, and I hate spaghetti in general. MacDaddy's in Monroe takes mac & cheese to a whole new level! I went there for the first time today for lunch, and it was amazing! The restaurant itself is located in a plaza with some other businesses, and honestly it doesn't look like much from the outside. The inside is pretty plain as well, with little decor. But what they lack in flash, they make up for in delicious mac & cheese! Their menu has so many options it's almost overwhelming! In fact, I counted 25 different varieties of mac & cheese that they offer. Everything from traditional mac & cheese with bread crumbs, to mac ala vodka, to mac pizza, mac gumbo, mac sloppy joe, mac philly steak and cheese, and more! The female employee behind the counter was friendly, and listed off some of their more popular varieties to give me ideas. I went with the MacDaddy, their most popular dish, which has all the ingredients of a Big Mac (even down to the sesame seeds) served over mac & cheese. It was amazing!!! I also got the Mac Ranch, which had fried chicken, bacon, and ranch dressing. Also excellent! They have three sizes of skillets that you can order, the "snack" (small), "mac" (medium), and "macdaddy" (large). I got the snack size for both, and even just one was more than enough to fill me up! Our kids recommended this place so we hopped in our car and drove an hour to try some of their Mac and Cheese varieties. I love me some good Mac and Cheese so it was a no brainer. Before we got there I imagined they had a standard base they used and just added stuff. They have around 2 dozen varieties and it's NOT just toppings thrown on simple Mac and Cheese. Some had different cheeses, different toppings and definitely different flavors. We tried four different menu items. Each is available in three generous portions. Some of the many varieties include Mexican, Cuban, Philly cheese steak and meatball. Our two favorite of the four we tried were the Mac Attack and Mac Daddy. Like I said we had four small samples, ate our full and had plenty to bring home. It's a small dining room- maybe five tables. Final comment- check them out they are worth it. I cannot stress this enough that I LOVE this place! It is an upscale twist on a classic favorite comfort food: macaroni and cheese! They have a wide variety of mac&cheese choices on their menu (ranging from chili dog to a la vodka to lobster) and I think at this point I have tried almost all of them. My personal favorites are the a la vodka (add chicken) or the Philly steak and cheese. But I could assure you you cannot go wrong with anything you opt to try as they are bursting with flavor and so filling! The perfect amount of cheese and (optional but highly recommended) crunchy bread crumbs to top it off. They are served in various size skillets as well so you could choose to either share a big plate with the table, friend/significant other, or go for the snack size (as pictured) for a personal serving. This is more of a 3.5 stars review than just 3.... Ordered takeout from here as my kids are a big fan of all things Mac and cheese. We ordered online and picked up. Order was ready when we arrived and nicely packed. The cheesesteak Mac and cheese was quite good, flavor and cheesy goodness was top notch. We got a small and it is more than enough for one person since it's so rich. The steak, onions, and mushroom add ins were nicely done and made it more flavorful. We also got a small gumbo Mac and cheese which was equally good. Spicy sausage nicely added throughout along with pepper Jack- tasted just like gumbo with gooey Mac and cheese added. The only miss and it's kind of sad was there plain Mac USA. It was dry, lacked salt, and way to many bread crumbs that tasted like they were not fully cooked. Final opinion: we would come back but my advice would be to stick to the specialty Mac and cheese options- there are many! A few I would like to try, the Popeye being one.....Also the small serving is plenty big but if you are very hungry a medium could work. The large easily feeds a few people. read more

Went to Mac Daddys this past weekend for some mac & cheese! Mac Daddys is located in my hometown so I've been familiar with the place since it opened and have been here numerous times. I've also tried a bunch of their mac & cheese's and they have all been very good I will say it's very cheesy so make sure you like cheese if you want to eat here lol. The different sizes are great I usually get a snack size as to not eat wayyyy to much. I tried the Mac ranch and it was pretty good tho I have to say the Mac pulled pork is my favorite and is a must try! My boyfriend got the Mac Caprese which was also delicious and has pesto in it instead of the standard cheese for anyone who isn't the biggest fan of cheese. read more

But I've tried the pulled pork, Cuban, Philly and French onion and all were really tasty. My husband goes at least once a month to grab for dinner. It's his favorite spot and is worth the 30 min drive there and 30 min drive back. 4 stars only because there have been a few times where the quality was off a bit. This is not a bad place. For me though, I found it limiting because I am just not a big Mac-N-Cheese fan and if you are not a Mac-N-Cheese fan, you may not fall in love with this place. The best thing about it is the location. It is in a plaza that includes Sal's pizza & Family Restaurant, Buffalo Bill's and Subway. So nobody can say this plaza does not offer something for everyone. Macdaddy's is close to Buffalo Bill's whom I'm not a big fan of either honestly. That being said, if you ARE a Mac-n-cheese fan..you could do worse. This place is not pricey and they are obviously doing something right as they have been here forever. I know people who have been here frequently and just love their food. It is also nicer inside than it looks from the outside. Coming here basically comes down to one's love of Mac-N-Cheese. (How many times did I say Mac-N-Cheese in this review?) On the way home from a weekend with the BF, I decided to finally try this place (it's not terribly far off the Merritt Parkway) Some of the reviews had me worried: Mac 'n Out in Milford (which is allegedly a ripoff of this place) is ok but never impressed me, and S'Mac and MacBar in New York have set the bar high. Yes, it's a little expensive, but you shouldn't be eating here on a daily basis unless you want to weigh 500lbs. Went here yesterday and enjoyed the food. My first impressions were honestly not the best from the outside looking in, but the word of mouth was positive so I decided to give the place a shot before I judged them fully. The shop is nestled inside an unassuming little shopping center which is a bit awkward to get into if you're not familiar with the hilly roads of Monroe, CT and the storefront itself isn't all that discernable from the rest of the shops around it. The interior of the restaurant itself is a little rustic. There's around 4-5 tables in the main dining area that sits right in front of the cashier's desk and kitchen; 2 long benches are on either sides to the left and right, and there's about 2-3 orange chairs at each table (orange to fit in with the mac and cheese theme, of course). There's also a charming art decoration of a giant skillet full of mac and cheese hanging on the wall (with a 'do not touch' sign sitting below it to discourage curious hands from wrecking someone's hard work). The server behind the counter was very friendly and gave me and my tag-alongs plenty of time to study the menu for the first time and decide what we wanted. We payed and waited a reasonable amount of time for our orders (around 5-10 mins.) I ordered the MacBacon and MacAttack along with a brownie to finish off with something sweet. The MacAttack (which consists of mac and cheese, chili, and toasted breadcrumbs on top) was easily the star of the two. The macaroni was cooked perfectly and not mushy at all. The breadcrumbs added a satisfying element of texture which was certainly needed to accent the bits of meaty chili and pasta. The chili could've been WAY spicier in my opinion, but I know that my spice tastes are far beyond that of the GA. The MacBacon was honestly a little mid in my opinion by comparison. It was satisfyingly smoky and the bacon bits were nice and chewy (I've always been a chewy bacon guy so that was nice), but it was just a nice, no frills bacon mac. Somewhat forgettable. My only TRUE critiques are the fact that the cheese is a little bit on the runny side for my tastes. I prefer a thicker, somewhat stiff cheese coating on my macaroni that helps everything stick together in a fork full. I think a nice layer of shredded cheese would help thicken the whole dish up. Toss it under a broiler for a few minutes and you've got a nicely browned topping to mix in once you take the top off. I think I'd also prefer it if the to-go orders came in silver tins like you'd find at a supermarket hot bar rather than plastic containers. It was a bit of a drive to get there from Danbury, CT so it would've been great if I could've just plopped it into the oven as-is rather than needing to transfer it out of the plastic and into an oven safe dish, but that's just a nitpick in comparison to all the positives. In conclusion: Highly recommended and I hope the owners/operators keep up the great work! read more

Nothing tastes better after visiting a few of out local breweries then gooey Mac and cheese. My friends ordered the buffalo Mac. I tried it and over all it was very good but I could have used the heat kicked up a notch or two. Our other friend ordered the meatball decent looked like baked pasta with no ricotta. Mine was the best of the 3. The cordon blue Mac. I have but the one regret is that I didn't order the large to hav extra to bring home. We were out for a November Sunday drive, and this place had been bookmarked for some time. It was a bit out of the way from home, but it was worth the trip. It's not a fancy joint, but clean & comfortable. Hey, Mac & cheese is blue collar food, so who needs fancy? The menu offers three sizes of cast iron skillets that the mac & cheese is served in 25 choices, and along with optional ingredients, making your selections almost limitless. We both chose the small (snack) size since we were here for an early lunch. "Snack size" is a bit of a misnomer. I'm a large guy and a big eater, and I struggled to finish my lunch! I chose the lobster mac & cheese, while my lunch companion ordered the mac & cheese with hot dogs. Both had quality ingredients, as you'd expect. My lobster mac & cheese was very good. Not overly generous with lobster meat, but enough to make the cast iron skillet of cheesy macaroni very flavorful. My dining companion's mac & cheese with hot dogs was done with quality hot dogs. I don't know where they source them, but they were clearly a good product, making it the equal to my dish. I'm hoping they'll open a place nearer to me, maybe in the New Haven area. If they do that, I'd be a semi-regular. As it is, this location is a bit far away to be a regular stop for me. Top notch macaroni and cheese! Went here with my dad while I was back home, passing it on the way back from a drop off to which we figured 'why not'?. Now I tell you I am not a complicated man of any sort, I enjoy good food, simple or complex. Macdaddy's is not of the sorts. For $16 dollars we ordered two SMALL skillets, Mushroom Mac and Hot Dog Mac plates, which was ridiculous in my opinion for a small plate of what tasted like Kraft. Both skillets came out scorching hot, one having Mac and cheese with a cut up hot dog and Mac and cheese with at most 2 chopped up portobello mushrooms in it. Both dishes were tasteless, to the point where we both walked out under silent agreement not to visit Macdaddy's again. Panera it is! Not sure if it was just the day but my experience was not so great, presentation good, pricey, staff friendly, food as good as it sounds and could be using a refurbishment of the menu. read more

The shop is very small inside, but they are hoping to lease the space next door and expand with a bar and more seating in the future. They did eliminate the sampler size so you choose from a snack, mac and macdaddy. Gluten free mac and cheese and no breadcrumbs are still options as well. Pricing is fair for the product and ingridients......25 for lobster mac is very reasonable! So good.....try everything =-) read more

YUM! On a whim as we were passing by my boyfriend and I stopped in here. The choices were plentiful, the service was friendly and fast, and the portions were gigantic. We split a snack size of the vodka mac and it was more than enough for our lunch. It was a bit pricey for what it is: noodles and cheese. And we are fans of home cooking, but the menu gave us plenty of ideas for our own mac n cheese concoctions. We had been wanting to try this place for some time. It seemed like such a great idea. Upon walking in the place was not very inviting. It seemed dark and lonely. There was only one table occupied which should have been our first clue. My wife had the pizza Mac which really ended up being pasta and sauce with a little melted cheese on top. Nothing really set it apart as Pizza Mac. My buffalo chicken Mac had good flavor but was lacking in chicken. I counted 8 tiny cubes of chicken and after eating it for a few minutes it lost all the buffalo flavor and was just plain Mac and Cheese. Soda machine was out of ice and I ran the dispenser extra long to see if the girl working the register would notice. Nope. She just continued playing on her computer. Worst part was the price. Almost $40 for two middle size skillets is macaroni with a bottle of water and a fountain soda. Nobody asked "How was your food" or even glanced as we got up to leave. It's too bad. Great concept, but after having been to 'SMAC in NYC, I was slightly disappointed. I went with three other people, so we ordered four sample sizes (so we could try as many flavors as possible). My thoughts on each one: Mac Pulled Pork - I had high hopes for this one after the owner cited it as his favorite. However, the only detectable flavor was the barbecue sauce. If I wanted that, I'd drink the Sweet Baby Ray's from the bottle. Mac Yardbird - The spinach and artichoke could be tasted, as could the cream cheese. The fact that the cheese stands out already puts it above the last flavor. Mac Popeye - Spinach, Goat cheese, and garlic -- so simple, but so delicious! Mac Mushroom - I had no idea mushrooms could taste so good! The mushrooms really stood out, and were accented by the cheese. We ordered everything gluten-free. The macaroni was good, but it needed some crunch. Perhaps they should steal 'SMAC's idea of a cornmeal topping. Great ambience, and the owner/staff is very friendly. read more
