What a gorgeous gem not too far from Sacramento! Thanks to my friend who told me about this winery that is one of her favs, and she gave me a gift card, friends and I made reservations. Upon arriving, I could already feel the serenity of this winery. The weather was perfect when we went, as the sun was shiny brightly, and the trees surrounding us gave us perfect shade. Dogs and children are allowed, making this such a family friendly winery. They have a covered area that is perfect for large parties also, adding a touch of privacy. We were fortunate to have live music, which added to the relaxing time we had at Macchia Wines. We appreciate how they allow us to bring our own food, so we could pair the wines with our food for our picnic. The wine is decent. Facility is decent. Unfortunately, a staff are doing all kinds of things that make the place uncomfortable... First, they really need to slow down and greet people. They're texting behind the bar while serving using voice text which was actually quite funny. But just strange when you're wine tasting, They are all a little frazzled when it got just a bity busy and we're not communicating with customers or each other well. Made everyone uncomfortable. Then the way they addresses my kids and my wife were just pretty sad. They have a nice park like area with grass, swing seating, and a huge sign that says "it's all good" lol. I'm standing right there when an employee comes and tells my kids and their cousins, who were all sitting quietly on the swings, "this isn't a park and these are not swings you swing on, you can't be over here". Mind you that they are actually have chained porch swings and the kids were using them appropriately. Later she comes up to my wife randomly and says we have a rule that "all kids must remain seated the entire time". Which I think she just made up to be honest. And the kids were being very well behaved. My party bought two cases of wine, nearly $700 and we're having a get together at the winery.... and it was not busy outside. Just relax people.... or put some signs up outside and online that say "no kids allowed" if you want to be a bunch of weirdos. Or even better, be kind and welcoming. read more

We had a lovely time at macchia on a Saturday afternoon . The service was excellent and they had no issue with us splitting a single set (we were pretty drunk when we came over ). The set was very good with one exception - the rose was too anemic and lacked a strong flavor . The rest were excellent with the old vine zin and the cab 2022 leading the pack . We walked in around Saturday 3pm and it was sort of busy. They had live music outside so there were more people outside. We decided to do our tasting at the tasting counter. There's some people at the counter. But tasting room is spacious so you can stand and walk around. Tasting fee is $15 for 6 wines but we got an extra port. The sweet wines were better but not our taste since we like dry wines. They also have bocce ball area with swings. Looks like you can bring food or snacks. read more

Nice smaller winery. Went on a Sunday when it was less crowded but still enjoyed listening to live music and sitting inside the tasting room. Plenty of seating outside and there are heat lamps. Short Review: Went to Macchia for the first time on a Saturday, they had an event. It was 25 bucks and you got to keep the glass you taste with! Live music, all 27 wines available to be tasted, they had many vendors. We only went to winetaste, but since they had all 27 bottles out, we tried each and everyone one of their delicious wines. Next time we go to Lodi, I'm likely going to join this wine club, they know how to have a good time! It was very crowded with no guidelines on standing in line and at times it was awkward trying to get our next sip. All of the workers were very helpful, kind and knowledgeable. read more

Macchia Winery is amazing, but Tyler and Brian took the experience to a whole other level. From the moment we arrived, they were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and genuinely excited to make sure everyone was having a great time. Watching them multitask was honestly impressive--they were running around helping multiple customers at once, answering questions, pouring wine, and somehow still making each person feel like a priority. That level of customer service is legendary and way harder than they made it look. You can tell they truly care about the winery and the people who walk through the door. I have been a member since 2013 and Macchia has always been an excellent establishment highlighted by friendly, knowledgeable and professional staff...serving delicious wine too!! It is a 156-mile round trip for me to come here but it's soooo worth it compared to my experiences in Napa/Sonoma which is 100 miles closer to my home. The 1 star rating is for the owner's unleashed dogs. I have had 2 bad interactions this year with the owner's unleashed dogs. I waited a week to write this so I would not be writing..."angry". I love that this place is very dog friendly and I bring my Labrador whenever weather permits. The staff enforce a "dogs on leash at all times" policy in a pleasant manner to help promote a safer environment for animals and people. Unfortunately, the owners violate their own policy repeatedly. This January, their small breed dogs barking and running up to my leashed dog triggered a defensive reaction from my dog that caused the table to tip with our tasting flights of wine but no person, dog or wine was damaged thankfully. Last week (Feb 27) their unleashed husky came at my leashed dog and my girlfriend's fingernail was torn in half and punctured trying to separate the dogs. I have to give Brenda 5-star kudos for getting bandages and being very attentive. To the owners, I would ask: why risk injury to your customers and their pets by not following your own "dogs on leash" policy? Why open yourselves up to possible litigation when someone or their pet is injured?? read more

Visited this winery and was empty with only one other table with a couple tasting wines. There were to females working. We asked to do a wine tasting. They serve all wines in small glass to pour into a traditional glass including the red wines that sit there until you get to them and the temperature changes. The older female brought all the wines over our table outside. I asked if I could change one of the wines since I don't care for sweet wines. I was told OK and could come to get the exchanged wine. Poor service. This could've been brought over since nothing was going on and they weren't busy. Let's just say I didn't have the best experience here. I found the service to be POOR and if they don't want my business, I'll find another tasting room that might want it. NEVER AGAIN. read more

They have an area where you can have a small gathering/party and there is a nice fireplace and a bar so you or your guests don't have to go inside to get more wine....how convenient, right? Stopped by to pickup some wines I'd purchased Online. Approached the front counter and asked for my order plus if could do wine tasting. Only one table with 2 people plus 2 of us. There were 2 servers. We sat down outside and one of the servers said would bring little glasses with our wines. This was without telling us about the wines. I did ask to replace a sweet wine on list of wines served. Was told to go pickup inside of bar area. Offered no service because only 2 tables with customers. Julie was such a gracious host considering they were pretty busy today with the live music! We all poured out the red blend which was pungent had a peppery after taste. Their Zin was ok and I did like the port but not enough to want to purchase a bottle. Update: I was disappointed to see the owner's response to my review is this: "it's best if you do not return to our establishment". I truly wanted to inform them so we could keep our community safe. But the owner has not acknowledged my concern, or committed to abiding by the law. Wines and ambiance were lovely. Unfortunately, our waitress refused to wear a mask and got within one foot of us, touching our arms, etc. We directly asked her to please wear a mask (as it is state law) and she responded defensively. For the rest of the time we were there, she never wore a mask, and never returned to our table to help us. Regardless of one's views re: politics around masks, if you are going to work frontline in a public space, it is unacceptable to not follow state laws and guidelines. read more

The wines were just ok for me, but the grounds of this winery make it worth a visit if you're in the area. Don't stop at only the tasting room- grab a glass and head to the back where the real space is. The covered patio is large, there's plenty of seating, and an outdoor fireplace to cozy up next to. As for wine, you really need to love fruit forward reds to enjoy these. As far as zinfandels go, these were too muted for my palette. I prefer a much bolder red than the ones I found here. On the other hand, I tasted a white called Ludicrous that I enjoyed and took home. Bonus for the bench swings with built-in holders for your wine glasses. I need one of those... read more

Wow--what a find! Most people know that this part of California is known as the place to be for the best Zinfandel's one can enjoy. We were given 8 different wines during our tasting experience by a wonderful wine expert who completely explained all that comprised each wine. We opted to purchase the 2017 White Blend, California "Ludicrous" and the 2016 Old Vine Zinfandel, Lodi "Mischievous". Prices are reasonable!! The tasting fee of $10 is waived once you purchase a bottle. We actually loved seven out of the eight wines sampled. They were all smack dabbing delicious to us. Clap! Clap! Clap! Fun and interesting tidbit: Macchia means "spot" in Italian and each wine has their own unique "spot" marked on their label. read more
