One of our favorite wineries! We walked in as a group of 11 on a Saturday around 3pm even though we had reservations but our group turned out to be bigger than expected. There were able to accommodate all of us inside. $10 tasting fee for 6 wines. Tasting fee is waived with 1 bottle purchase. Generous pours! Most of all, we liked most of the wines. Wines were fruity, bold, and have some complexity. You can bring food or snacks. They allow dogs. They have inside and outside seating. Verdelho, Iberian rose, Zinfandel, and petite Sirah were really fruity and bold. Heritage rose was light and not much flavor. Barbera was in the middle. read more

My wife loves a good Port, so she was in heaven when we found St Amant's tasting room. The tasting room is in an unassuming industrial area and a little tricky to find. They don't just have Ports, but on a recommendation we received, we sought out their tasting room to check out their ports. St Amant did not disappoint !!! There are plenty of wine selections. We visited this winery while driving around finding other Lodi wineries. This was a bit hard to find and felt like we were in the wrong place but it is indeed in a like Warehouse district through the gates of what seems to be manned gate. So no you're lost. It is where the directions are taking you. We had a good wine tasting. The service was great but just not our tastes in wines. They had one port that was good but we decided to go elsewhere as this was not for us. Maybe it will be for you, but just not our cup or tea or should I say not our taste in wine. This is a great place for wine tasting. It does have an industrial outdoor setting, but inside they have an open room full of barrels for a barrel tasting on one of their wines. We came here during a Tempranillo event, so I am not sure if the barrel tasting for one of them is ongoing moving forward, but I hope it is because it was a great experience! We had one of the best customer services experiences here with a young man that told us a lot of information about each wine we tasted and he seemed very passionate. The barrel tasting one was awesome because we learned a lot about the barrel process in general and they have many award winning wines here, both gold and silver. When we first drove up, we were definitely confused as it's an area with warehouses so it doesn't feel like all of the other wineries/tasting rooms in Lodi BUT we were pleasantly surprised when we walked in. They made a warehouse super cute. We were greeted by a very sweet girl who allowed us to sit wherever we wanted as we were the only ones there. They had a heater next to the table to we sat by which kept us nice and cozy throughout our tasting. The tasting was 10 dollars and waived with a bottle purchase of course. Every single wine was AMAZING. Beyond my expectations, I wanted to take them all home but I stuck with one, the old vine zin. In my opinion, St Amant can do no wrong. read more

We've been coming here since about 1997 on the advice of wine educator Kathe Barnett. She was working for Michael David (which was still called Phillips back then) and she said we just had to try them. Tim Spencer was doing it right, and out of a tiny, out of the way warehouse. They are still in that same warehouse. Sadly, Tim died but he taught his son, Stuart well. Stuart now crafts the wines and is following in his father's footsteps. Barbara, Tom's wife, has always been the face and the voice of the winery and is one of the nicest people I've ever met. Come here. Make sure you taste their Tempranillo and my favorite, their tawny port. This is still my favorite winery in all of Lodi. read more

The best selection of Port wines and Spanish wines styled with a California brush. The heavy hitters here are the Zinfandel from two different vineyards. The Mohr Fry is a bit more feminine, and the Marian's Vineyard a bit more masculine. They are both big fruit wines and each will find a favorite within your group. For a bit of trivia, one of the coolest details is the actual address: 1 Winemaster Way, Lodi CA. For the other selections, they have a Barbera, Touriga, and Tempranillo to round out the reds. Also there is a Verdehlo which was also very good. Still, the most amazing wines are probably the Port. Even if you don't care for Port wines, you will appreciate what they've done here! A Bootleg Port is a great easy drinking entry level port. I would consider it a Gateway Port with hints of vanilla and dark fruits, but not too much oak. Next, they have a Vintage Port which is outstanding and this is definitely a keeper! It reminds me of the true Portuguese styled Ports, but more refined and affordable. Finally, you have the Tawny Port, which is basically candied almonds, burnt carmel in a glass. There is a hint of brandy, but overall it is a true sipping wine to be shared in the middle of winter, say December 21st, during the solstice. read more

Summary: Some very interesting varietals of the Spanish/Portuguese variety (a couple we had never heard of before), good for people that like bigger flavors and that earthy manuery smell, and very friendly pourers. Tasting was free as well. This place is a bit difficult to find. You have to go into the commercial complex and cut right, then in the building H or I on the left there should be a sign for the winery. Park and walk toward the back where the tasting room is. I went here for the first time with my wife and her parents on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. We were greeted as soon as we stepped in side by a friendly woman and a younger guy. We made our way to the back tasting room and proceeded to try the many wines available. There were some very interesting varietals that had different tastes from the traditional grapes. Unfortunately, my wife and I didn't like most of those styles of wine, but we did end up picking up a great bottle of Bootleg Port. Ultimately, the tasting was still very nice and I would definitely recommend this winery for those that like Spanish varietals. read more

Sunday Wine Day! We we're finishing up breakfast at Michael David and were looking for some wineries in the area that we had never visited it..so we came across St Amant! This little gem is nestled in an industrial area, and had it not been for the American flag waving proudly, we would have missed it..and I am glad we didn't! When we arrived we were greeted warmly, The young man gave the spill about the winery, and we got down to tasting! I really enjoyed the wine's, with my faves being the Mohr-Fry Zin, and the Bootleg Port! Yummo! We were bummed that we couldn't try the Souzão, which was described as "dark, inky, with intense dark fruit aromas mixed with spicy notes," because the remaining bottles were reserved for wine club members. But all in all excellent wine! I snagged a bottle of the Mohr-Fry Zin. The $5 tasting fee was waived with purchase, and we were invited to please come by again. Definitely will be back! read more

Cute little place in the middle of an industrial park, so it's not exactly what we expected when we got there. HOWEVER, great experience from the time we parked until the time we left. When we arrived, they were finishing grape processing and we had a nice conversation with the owner about the process. We then proceeded to the tasting room, where we tasted a white, a rose, several reds, and 2 ports. The server was friendly, informative, and flexible. We found their wines to be tasty and fruit forward - we each bought a bottle of different wines we liked, and hope that we will find more when we get home. Very nice experience! read more

I want to be selfish and not write a review because I don't want the secret to get out about this place. This is my second visit to Lodi and my second time stopping into this small, handcrafted winery tucked away in an industrial park. It's NO FRILLS and that's just fine by me as the wine is AMAZING. Everything from the crisp white Verdelho to the Mohr-Fry Old Vine Zinfandel delight your palette and stand out among all other wineries in Lodi. The bootleg port is also super delicious, and you can't beat the prices on these amazing wines. Everything I tried, I loved, and I bought an entire case and joined the wine club. Make an immediate right. The winery is little hard to spot, nestled behind some bushes between the G building and the K building but its there. We've tasted at quite a few Lodi wineries (20 +) and I would put these wines easily in the top three. The flavors are not overly complex but nuanced, mature, and velvety smooth, very quintessential lodi wine. They can be drunken by themselves but would be excellent for pairing with food at a dinner party. Moreover, this is THE place in Lodi to go for port. They've been making port since 1980 and have a young port, an aged port, and a delicious tawny port. That tawny ranks right up there with Prager's tawny. Setting: It is in an industrial park but they've done well to make the tasting room feel cosy, especially with the two big cats. The only issue was they were understaffed when we got there (they werent expecting such a turn out). Call ahead if you're planning to come with a big group to give them fair warning and dont plan on this being a quick tasting. read more

I was not impressed with their operation. They are located in a business center which takes away from the typical personality you want/expect from a winery. They had about eight bottles for tasting and only one (old vine zin) did I find of interest. Ah, yes they had a pricey port that was long term aged that was very good. Why the low rating? Fruit flies. I very much understand that yes they are everywhere and unavoidable in this kind of business but.... After visiting three different wineries in Lodi during an afternoon of tastings, St. Amant was my absolute fave. When we pulled in, we first weren't sure we had arrived at the correct place, and then drove right past the entrance before backtracking (it looks like you're almost entering an industrial park of sorts, and the wine tasting room is small). We were all a little skeptical about going in -- except for the bf, who was all for it. It didn't exactly scream "winery" by the looks of it, but he was convinced that, thanks to their cheery red awning, it was legit and we needed to give it a try. So glad he's always adventurous like that... :) haha. They are atypical, nestled out of the way amid several large-scale operations -- and if you're into the "off the beaten path" places, you will fall in love with this tiny winery. We went in and Barbara, the owner, was hanging out inside. She gave us the tastings and a background on the winery and each wine we were tasting. They have some of the oldest vines in California, the mother vine for their zinfandels are over 100 years old -- how cool is that? She was so friendly and informative, we really enjoyed talking to her and trying all the wines. I'm not a sweet wine person, but enjoyed trying some different ports -- the chocolate one is amazing! Many of their wines are award winning, and I was excited to learn some local Atlanta, Ga., liquor stores carry some of their wines. We bought a few bottles to enjoy during our trip and plan to get some from our local carrier soon. If you can catch this place at a quiet time, you'll feel like this is a personal wine tasting just for you and your group. Highly recommended for wine geeks. Nice depth to the wines. Wineries like St. Amant will dispel the notion that Lodi produces only bulk wine. I loved the barbera, the zins and the touriga nactional. These tend to be food friendly wines. I was also fortunate enough to taste both the 2012 and 2013 Lodi Native wines. This is a project by six wineries where they use ancient zinfandel vines, neutral oak and native yeasts. Both were excellent and worthy of at last short term cellaring. My girlfriends and I visited St Amant over Memorial Day weekend. I called ahead, as was suggested by another Yelp reviewer, and let the winery know what time we would be arriving and how many of us there were. We ended up arriving a little bit early (30 minutes) but went inside to ask if we could still be accommodated at that time and the woman working there (Barbara) told us that was fine. The tasting room is not the easiest to locate. It's in an industrial parking lot, tucked away. We weren't sure if we had the right place at first. There is one small tasting bar so it's not suitable for lots of people at one time. I think while we were there, a big group was turned away that called on the phone. The wines were excellent. I had only been wine tasting in Lodi once before and hadn't been all that impressed. I liked all the wines that I tasted here. My friends and I all agreed that the wine was really good. This was the only place that we agreed upon in terms of liking all of the wines we tasted. The owner, Barbara, wasn't very friendly. When my friends asked about the pictures on the bottles of wine, she wasn't forthcoming at first about the meaning behind the pictures. Later, she told us the story about her husband and her family members and how it related to the photos. I really enjoyed hearing about the Bootleg name for the port (make sure to ask when you visit). There were a couple of other groups that came through without a reservation, including one couple who brought their toddler and sat their child up on the tasting bar while they drank wine. Seeing that only one person was working that day and it was difficult to cater to multiple groups at once, we decided to sit outside and enjoy our wine until the others left. We did feel a bit neglected and as if we weren't wanted there. Toward the end of our visit, she warmed up to us more. (Side note: I work in a tasting room so I judge other tasting rooms based on my experience working behind the bar and how I like to make customers feel). I ended up getting two bottles - The Speakeasy Red and a bottle of the Old Vine Zinfandel (which I purchased without getting to taste - I was told it was their best seller and based on how well I liked the other wines I didn't want to miss out on trying their OV). This family really knows the craft of winemaking. The prices were also very reasonable. I expected to pay a lot more for what I was buying. The customer service or the atmosphere created while we were there was less than welcoming. It seemed as if there was an air of "the wines speak for themselves, so we don't need to win you over with kindness." I highly recommend their wines, but you might enjoy them just as much by buying them from a wine shop or online, rather than going into the tasting room. read more
