I visited Michael David Winery in Lodi, CA [4580 W Hwy 12] on Tuesday, 07/07/26, around 12:45 PM. I proceeded to head to the wine bar area for the wine tasting. I tried a variety of flavors such as: - 2025 Michael David Rosé (top favorite) - 2023 Inkblot Cabernet Franc - 2023 Red Freakshow Red Wine - 2024 Earthquake Zinfandel - 2022 Zinfandel Lust (top favorite) Ashley served a good handful of individuals, including myself. She was truly so knowledgeable about the wines and super hospitable as well. I appreciated her warm, amiable disposition. It truly made one of the greatest highlights during this visit. I decided to explore around the property. It was beyond gorgeous with beautiful decorations, blooming plants, water fountains + ponds, and so much more. The space was so inviting, it was a great atmosphere, especially for a date or to hang out with friends. Overall, I was amazed by the tasty, house-made wines and dazzling ambiance. Michael David Winery is a great place for multiple reasons. They have great wines and wine tasting is a reasonable $15 per person. They have a restaurant on premise that serves great farm to Fork meals. Everything is delicious but I highly recommend the chicken tortilla soup. One of the best I've ever had. The service is also excellent. In addition, on the outside patios on weekends they have a pizza oven and you can get fresh pizza. They also have food to go, and their pies are legendary Of course, they have a wine club which we have been members of for several years now and that's always a great deal if you like wines on a regular basis. Parking is phenomenal as they have a large area for parking. This is a great place to come for a party such as a birthday party or to meet friends and just hang out for the day. read more

The barbecue brisket sandwich was incredibly tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. Every bite was delicious! The potato salad was seasoned so well that I ended up finishing the entire serving, which, almost never happens. Of course, the Michael David wines was outstanding, as always. Pair that with live music, a beautiful garden setting, and good friends, and it made for the perfect evening. The peaceful atmosphere was the cherry on top. We celebrated our anniversary at Michael David Winery with our Yelp friends, and it was an absolutely beautiful experience from start to finish. The winery grounds are stunning, with plenty of seating areas to relax, enjoy wine, and take in the scenery. It truly feels like an all-in-one destination--they have a winery, café, bistro, and even a shop where you can pick up snacks and local goods. Everything is thoughtfully designed so you can spend the entire day there without needing to leave. The bakery selection was a highlight. They had an impressive variety, from full-size pies to single slices, along with cookies and brownies. The apricot items stood out during our visit, and the chocolate chip cookies and brownies were especially delicious. The persimmon cookie was unique and unforgettable. For food, a barbecue food truck was catering the pickup party. The burger they served was fantastic, and the brisket was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. It came with a really good potato salad and fresh watermelon that paired perfectly with the winery's reds. Our favorite wine of the day was the Earthquake red--bold, rich, and perfect with the heavier foods. There was also live music, perfect weather, and a very relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and everything was clean and well maintained. The gardens were in full bloom, offering beautiful photo spots--especially the sunflowers and fountains scattered throughout the property. Overall, it's the kind of place you can spend an entire day at--starting with a morning visit and easily staying through lunch and into the late afternoon. A very beautiful property with a bit of a 'touristy' edge. Friends had introduced us to Freakshow wines from here and we decided to give it a try and visit the winery. Although the grounds are very nice the entire experience was a let down. The tasting room is very utilitarian and not at all what I expected for a comfortable wine tasting experience. Although there are a multitude of pleasant outdoor spaces to linger and lounge while sipping wine it seems set up and better suited to small groups of 10 or more. There's a restaurant in the main tasting room that was packed crowded. The offerings must be good. The ambiance was similar to a Cracker Barrel. There's lots of merchandise for sale and I was surprised how basic the place felt, nothing special. When we asked at the tasting counter if we could get a glass of the Petite Petit, the wine we were introduced to by friends, the answer was a very gruff and emphatic, NO. The man seemed annoyed we asked. It would have been nice to be offered an alternative. That really turned me off although we ended up buying two bottles anyway. So, Freakshow. Rather strange and peculiar labeling and marketing, but it does catch one's attention. I had to wonder if the inspiration came from the TV series American Horror Story of the same name? The Petite Petit is a deep hearty rich blend of red wine with a lot of depth. It isn't very expensive but the taste is both bold and rich. It was nice walking around the outdoor areas and gardens but there didn't seem to be much energy out there, maybe a weekday and/or too early in the days? I had to wonder if they get folks coming off I-5 since the major highway is so close. Hence the more basic tourist approach. In any case it's an OK place but in short order I was ready to move on to another winery. read more

The food options were good, coming here mid week the foot traffic was low and allowed us to enjoy the property freely without having to compete with other large groups. We started with a wine flight and then stayed for lunch in the café. The tasting flight was very good, with the Misfits & Mavens red blend being my favorite of the group. Afterward, we walked the grounds, which were absolutely gorgeous. The only downside was how noticeable the nearby highway noise was at times. For lunch, I ordered the Lodi Burger with potato salad, while my wife went with the combo featuring the chicken tortilla soup and tri-tip sandwich. My burger was good overall, though the bun could have been a bit fresher. The potato salad was solid. That said, my wife definitely ordered the better meal. I sampled both her soup and sandwich and unsuccessfully tried to negotiate a trade. Overall, this was a solid stop with good wine, pleasant grounds, and enjoyable food. Another winery staff had recommended this place. Upon arriving, we realize it was huge. There is a table service lunch area which we had a great meal. A bakery area where we bought a beautiful and delicious apricot pie. Then we had a wine tasting paired with Girl Scout cookies. And purchased the 2022 Earthquake Cabernet. I was surprised to see a happy Birthday sign as I hadn't told them the reservation was for my birthday. One of my friends had quietly told them. They added a happy birthday sign to our standing table which I thought was a sweet touch! The tasting menu that day was all reds, but since I was more of a white wine gal, my friend and I were able to try some whites instead. They even gave us an extra birthday pour. I went home with a friend purchasing me a bottle of one of their whites. Our hostess was super attentive and sweet. The entire winery was decorated with holiday decor. The day I went was festive. Santa came and they had a pop up shop of small businesses! Many great photo opportunities. My second visit was during the week for their farmhouse breakfast! Had a simple classic breakfast meal . Eggs, toast, potatoes,came quick and reasonably priced for the ambiance. Service was attentive yet again. My friend purchased some items from their market for her charcuterie. We had an spontaneous wine tasting at MDW yesterday thanks to invite of wonderful friends who are members. We had lunch first and 3 out of 4 ordered the combo (tri tip and salad) and we all unanimously voted that it really tasted incredible! Not salty, very tender, right portion and priced reasonably! We will definitely have to try the other items in the menu. Next was the Freakshow astonishing wine tasting with their staff, Brandon. He actually made the experience more amazing as he is funny, very friendly, knowledgeable of each wine we tasted. After the wine tasting, we moved their beautiful lush garden to have our ordered class of wine, cocktail and mocktail. What a day spent spontaneously with the outstanding MDW wine tasting experience. I have been here multiple times for breakfast and brunch and it is very good. The service is always been great. The ambience is good. I would recommend going here for brunch or breakfast. It's a very nice place. They have a gift shop so you can purchase wine or different foods. They sell baked goods as well. I started recently dabbling in red Zinfandels and this was a place I wanted to try. We did not have reservations but were able to get right in and have Savannah serve us. She was amazing! Educated us on the deep rooted history of the family starting with farming and now wines. They have walkable grounds with beautiful flowers and a pond, as well as an on site bistro. We came out for the after hours event. We found a spot near the bistro area and pond. We placed an order for some food from the bistro. Sandwiches are in the $19 range. I had the turkey pesto and it was amazing. The bread was perfect. It had a nice crunch to it but was still soft. It came with a side of potato salad, and that was great. The wine is amazing. I had a glass of their hundred-year-old vine. No tannins and super smooth. There's plenty of seating at their outdoor areas. The grounds are beautiful. This use to be my favorite Winery. Every wine day would start here so I recently got my friends together for a tasting and breakfast. The tasting was phenomenal. The person assigned to us was very knowledgeable and super nice. However, the restaurant left a bad taste in my mouth. After being sat down and our orders being taken, our server never came back. We wanted to order dessert and get the check, our server wouldn't even make eye contact for us to ask for service. A literal 50 minutes went by before I could get her attention for dessert. We watched her help all her other tables. I have to say loud excuse me just for someone to check on us. Very different service than what I'm use to being provided. We went to Father's Day Event which was at a different location (Bare Ranch) which I think was mediocre. Food was amazing but they didn't organize it very well. Car show and BBQ was overhyped in their promotion. They ran out of food and the seating was horrible. Live Music was all right and there was nothing else that was entertaining. Michael David Winery is a really interesting spot, made up of three sections: the café, the tasting room, and the bistro/outside area. We had originally booked a reservation for the bistro, but due to the weather, they called us the day of to let us know our reservation was canceled. They offered for us to still come in for a tasting in their tasting room/covered patio, which we appreciated. When we arrived, things felt pretty unorganized and hectic. No one seemed eager to help us, and they had a strict policy that the entire party had to be present before we could start tasting. We ended up waiting about 15 minutes before a tasting associate finally helped us. There was a lot of apologizing, and they explained they were very understaffed that day. As a thank you for our patience, they gave us a free bottle of champagne and plenty of extra pours during the tasting, which was a nice gesture. Once the tasting started, everything went much more smoothly. Our tasting associate was very friendly and knowledgeable. The wine itself was excellent, and they had some unique offerings -- including a "space wine" where the yeast had been sent to space before being used in the winemaking process, which was super cool and something I've never seen before. Another fun detail: the café has a market attached to it where you can buy little charcuterie items and bring them over to the tasting area to create your own snack. However, you can't order food from the café menu unless you stay seated in the café itself -- something to keep in mind when planning your visit. Overall, while the experience started off a little rocky, it worked out in the end. I do think management could improve by having better staffing and maybe a manager on-site to step in when things get chaotic. But all in all, a good visit with some memorable wines! Vincent did a great job - he throughly explained each of the wines we tried and was very patient with our loud group. One suggestion- please consider providing barstools during the tastings; no one wants to stand for over 45 minutes. Currently you only have a few barstools around the main bar but not at the other tastings tables. I brought home a few bottles from the tasting menu and I also got a mystery box. What was once our fav for breakfast, unfortunately no longer. My husband and I arrived this morning around 930, there was no wait and were seated inside at the table next to the back door. We waited for over 20 minutes and not one waitress addressed us. The waitresses passed by many tines. A group of 4 were seated next to us after we arrived and they waited for quite a while as well. I've been wanting to visit this place for a while and finally got the chance to. This is a pretty nice winery with excellent wines, food, and employees. We came on a weekday so it wasn't busy and parking was easy. My brother and I opted for the $10 wine tasting which includes a tasting of 5 wines of your choice. I'm not a huge wine connoisseur, I wish I was but I generally drink what tastes good to me. We chose the freakshow zin, the freakshow cab, the sixth sense syrah, the earthquake zin, and earthquake cab. Our favorite was the sixth sense syrah and had to buy a bottle to bring home. While enjoying our wine, we walked about the grounds. I love that they allow children and have a playground for the kids. It was nice enjoying wine and time with my family. To start off, this winery is beautiful and I can understand the hype, but their were some discrepancies I think people need to know before attending. 1. You cannot eat food and do your tasting, you have to do one or the other first, AND you cannot bring in any snacks or food either so say goodbye to wanting to eat and drink at the same time. 2. My wife Tina is a member of this Winery and their club prices are good and the wine is excellent. I took my daughter Nikki to the café. There had a nice turkey sandwich with pesto and then we did a wine tasting and excellent choices Lathe helped us out and she's very knowledgeable about the wines, an interesting lady; the symphony white wine I highly recommend; also the Cabernet and they have an earthquake and then I got along with a special. This is a long overdue review. Let's just say, this place is gorgeous! I came here with several friends for lunch. Note that you need to make reservations prior to coming and also put a deposit down ($5 per person) that will be returned back when you check in. It was my first time, but I really enjoyed myself. The lunch prices were very reasonable with lively music playing. We ordered pitchers of the red and the white sangria and I enjoyed the white sangria more.
