Michael David winery is one of beautiful winery in Lodi. Parking: free plenty in its own complex Inside, it is decorated like a resort with waterfall, lush gardens Its most popular wine: freakshow is totally delicious. It also hosts private events for its member here and there. I was lucky to be invited to their members only event with hula dancers show and meals. I have been to Napa, Sonoma and Paso Robles. We started with a wine flight and then stayed for lunch in the café. The tasting flight was very good, with the Misfits & Mavens red blend being my favorite of the group. Afterward, we walked the grounds, which were absolutely gorgeous. The only downside was how noticeable the nearby highway noise was at times. For lunch, I ordered the Lodi Burger with potato salad, while my wife went with the combo featuring the chicken tortilla soup and tri-tip sandwich. My burger was good overall, though the bun could have been a bit fresher. The potato salad was solid. That said, my wife definitely ordered the better meal. I sampled both her soup and sandwich and unsuccessfully tried to negotiate a trade. Overall, this was a solid stop with good wine, pleasant grounds, and enjoyable food. Another winery staff had recommended this place. Upon arriving, we realize it was huge. There is a table service lunch area which we had a great meal. A bakery area where we bought a beautiful and delicious apricot pie. Then we had a wine tasting paired with Girl Scout cookies. And purchased the 2022 Earthquake Cabernet. I came to Michael David Winery twice this winter season. The first time was for celebrating my birthday. My girl friends and I came wine tasting. I was surprised to see a happy Birthday sign as I hadn't told them the reservation was for my birthday. One of my friends had quietly told them. They added a happy birthday sign to our standing table which I thought was a sweet touch! The tasting menu that day was all reds, but since I was more of a white wine gal, my friend and I were able to try some whites instead. They even gave us an extra birthday pour. I went home with a friend purchasing me a bottle of one of their whites. Our hostess was super attentive and sweet. The entire winery was decorated with holiday decor. The day I went was festive. Santa came and they had a pop up shop of small businesses! Many great photo opportunities. My second visit was during the week for their farmhouse breakfast! Had a simple classic breakfast meal . Eggs, toast, potatoes,came quick and reasonably priced for the ambiance. Service was attentive yet again. My friend purchased some items from their market for her charcuterie. This use to be my favorite Winery. Every wine day would start here so I recently got my friends together for a tasting and breakfast. The tasting was phenomenal. The person assigned to us was very knowledgeable and super nice. However, the restaurant left a bad taste in my mouth. After being sat down and our orders being taken, our server never came back. We wanted to order dessert and get the check, our server wouldn't even make eye contact for us to ask for service. A literal 50 minutes went by before I could get her attention for dessert. We watched her help all her other tables. I have to say loud excuse me just for someone to check on us. Very different service than what I'm use to being provided. Michael David Winery never disappoints! The service here is excellent -- the staff is always so welcoming, friendly, and genuinely helpful. They have an amazing selection of wines, and the food is absolutely immaculate every time. Their bakery is to die for, especially the brownies and raspberry pies -- truly worth the trip alone. On this last visit, we enjoyed a pepperoni pizza, tri-tip sandwich, and a turkey pesto sandwich with a side of potato salad. Every bite was delicious and full of flavor. The atmosphere is just as good as the food and wine. They even have live music on certain nights, which makes the visits even more fun and memorable. I'm surprised it has taken me this long to get into Michael David. I had done a tasting once years ago and always intended to come back but just never seemed to find my way with all of the surrounding options. This second visit was affirmation that I've been missing out, as MD has a great selection of reds. I'm not sure I tried any that I didn't care for and had to limit myself to taking home only two bottles (for now). I started recently dabbling in red Zinfandels and this was a place I wanted to try. We did not have reservations but were able to get right in and have Savannah serve us. She was amazing! Educated us on the deep rooted history of the family starting with farming and now wines. They have walkable grounds with beautiful flowers and a pond, as well as an on site bistro. I grabbed cheese and crackers to go with our tastings. I absolutely loved the artwork on all the bottles, and the embossing. What a beautiful touch! The freakshow and earthquake Zinfandel were my favs. Grabbed some bottles to go! Will definitely be back. read more

We came out for the after hours event. We found a spot near the bistro area and pond. We placed an order for some food from the bistro. Sandwiches are in the $19 range. I had the turkey pesto and it was amazing. The bread was perfect. It had a nice crunch to it but was still soft. It came with a side of potato salad, and that was great. The wine is amazing. I had a glass of their hundred-year-old vine. No tannins and super smooth. There's plenty of seating at their outdoor areas. The grounds are beautiful. They had a live band, which was not too loud and added to the ambience. I would definitely recommend for an evening outdoors read more

Came by for a quick wine taste session and pick up a few bottles. Spacious beautiful outdoor area. The wine tasting room was had lots of room and there were plenty attendants to assist everyone. Michael David Winery is a really interesting spot, made up of three sections: the café, the tasting room, and the bistro/outside area. We had originally booked a reservation for the bistro, but due to the weather, they called us the day of to let us know our reservation was canceled. They offered for us to still come in for a tasting in their tasting room/covered patio, which we appreciated. When we arrived, things felt pretty unorganized and hectic. No one seemed eager to help us, and they had a strict policy that the entire party had to be present before we could start tasting. We ended up waiting about 15 minutes before a tasting associate finally helped us. There was a lot of apologizing, and they explained they were very understaffed that day. As a thank you for our patience, they gave us a free bottle of champagne and plenty of extra pours during the tasting, which was a nice gesture. Once the tasting started, everything went much more smoothly. Our tasting associate was very friendly and knowledgeable. The wine itself was excellent, and they had some unique offerings -- including a "space wine" where the yeast had been sent to space before being used in the winemaking process, which was super cool and something I've never seen before. Another fun detail: the café has a market attached to it where you can buy little charcuterie items and bring them over to the tasting area to create your own snack. However, you can't order food from the café menu unless you stay seated in the café itself -- something to keep in mind when planning your visit. Overall, while the experience started off a little rocky, it worked out in the end. I do think management could improve by having better staffing and maybe a manager on-site to step in when things get chaotic. But all in all, a good visit with some memorable wines! This winery has beautiful grounds and reasonable prices. Although our appointment started 35-40 minutes late, the staff at the check-in point were very attentive and apologetic. Vincent did a great job - he throughly explained each of the wines we tried and was very patient with our loud group. One suggestion- please consider providing barstools during the tastings; no one wants to stand for over 45 minutes. Currently you only have a few barstools around the main bar but not at the other tastings tables. I brought home a few bottles from the tasting menu and I also got a mystery box. Have heard quite a bit of good things about this winery so we made a quick stop on the way to dinner. Really impressed with the size of their lawn area; it's huge and there is plenty of room to hang out. Seems like a very casual (non stuffy) wine tasting spot. Went wine tasting yesterday with a reservation for a party of 8. Tasting fee was posted on the tasting menu as $15 per person, but we were charged $20 per person because we were considered a "Large party." We were going to purchase a couple of bottles but was informed that it would not be deducted or tasting fee would not be waived, which has been the norm at other wineries. We will definitely not be returning especially since their wines were just mediocre. read more

The waitress (Alycia) came to the table and took our order. No greeting, checking on the table or any refills. She took our order and that was that. I've been wanting to visit this place for a while and finally got the chance to. This is a pretty nice winery with excellent wines, food, and employees. We came on a weekday so it wasn't busy and parking was easy. My brother and I opted for the $10 wine tasting which includes a tasting of 5 wines of your choice. I'm not a huge wine connoisseur, I wish I was but I generally drink what tastes good to me. We chose the freakshow zin, the freakshow cab, the sixth sense syrah, the earthquake zin, and earthquake cab. Our favorite was the sixth sense syrah and had to buy a bottle to bring home. While enjoying our wine, we walked about the grounds. I love that they allow children and have a playground for the kids. It was nice enjoying wine and time with my family. Stopped here with friends for lunch. Their specialty is Chicken Tortilla Soup, which I always order. So delicious. Everyone else had burgers. My husband loves the burgers here. To start off, this winery is beautiful and I can understand the hype, but their were some discrepancies I think people need to know before attending. 1. You cannot eat food and do your tasting, you have to do one or the other first, AND you cannot bring in any snacks or food either so say goodbye to wanting to eat and drink at the same time. 2. There are LONG wait times. This is great for the winery but not great if you are just jumping around, id consider going elsewhere if you want to get in quickly. read more

The winery has a beautiful outdoor area- perfect for any occasion! We came on a hot Tuesday afternoon and were surprised by how many people there were mid-weekday. Nevertheless, an associate was quick to serve us and explain the tasting menu. She was very knowledgable in the different grapes and about the exclusive wine bottles. My wife Tina is a member of this Winery and their club prices are good and the wine is excellent. I took my daughter Nikki to the café. There had a nice turkey sandwich with pesto and then we did a wine tasting and excellent choices Lathe helped us out and she's very knowledgeable about the wines, an interesting lady; the symphony white wine I highly recommend; also the Cabernet and they have an earthquake and then I got along with a special. This is a long overdue review. Let's just say, this place is gorgeous! I came here with several friends for lunch. Note that you need to make reservations prior to coming and also put a deposit down ($5 per person) that will be returned back when you check in. It was my first time, but I really enjoyed myself. The lunch prices were very reasonable with lively music playing. We ordered pitchers of the red and the white sangria and I enjoyed the white sangria more. My husband and I love Michael David's wine and had visited their winery several years ago.  While on a road trip, we decided to stop here again.  Their gift shop is amazing, and they have a restaurant on the property too.  Our server was Vanessa Galvan, and she was fantastic.  She was so knowledgeable and helpful.  We ended up purchasing a bottle of 2022 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and a bottle of 2022 Reserve Zinfandel.  Their tasting fee is $15 per person, and they don't waive the tasting fee with a purchase.  We had a great time visiting this winery! read more

This was our second visit to the property. Our first before the pandemic. While some things have changed, the most important things have not. The property is breathtaking, relaxing, and serene. The wine is exceptional, and the amenities too notch. When in the area, be sure to include this on your list. The outdoor patio area is well worth the reservation and experience. Went with my member friend and was treated to a tasty spicy Hawaiian pizza, refreshingly crafted white wine and mango sangria and a red sangria and a delicious cheese, olives, and meats charcuterie tray. Next time, I will try the Tart Flambée. The tasting was superb too although the pours could be a little more generous. They have a cute marketplace complete with local produce that's reasonably priced: just $2 per lb for Yukon gold potatoes! Don't forget to pick up the spiked brownie or blondie drenched in their wine. Picked up the Freakshow Zinfandel. Yet to try it. Member price was just $13.50 that made me do a double take! I love love love the wine here, and once we got service, the service was great. We learned about the wines, had fun with the sommelier, and felt like we got a full experience. The four of us came without a reservation on a gloomy day in the middle of the week. The vineyard itself wasn't outstanding, and we could not sit outside as they took in all the seats, even though it wouldn't rain that day. The inside tasting room we were placed in didn't have any seating for us, as we were not sat at the bar. Overall, I would pop over for a tasting but I wouldn't want to stay here and relax with a bottle unless there were better seating options. read more

One of my go to wineries in the Lodi area. Michael David has a spectacular outdoor tasting area with greenery, flowers, and water feature. There are 2 indoor tasting rooms as well. The smaller one is attached to the cafe/restaurant. They host different events throughout the year, more so in the summer. Top favorite would be Cinco de Vino. I use to be a wine member but I wasn't going through my wine fast enough. FYI they offer member benefits and discounts. read more

Day 2 Stop 2 Ok, IMHO It's one of the largest and best organized retail wineries in the Lodi/Galt area (maybe even in all of the NorCal area as well) I'm sure some of you may be familiar with labels of Earthquake, FreakShow, Pinot Pinot.... as they are all around in markets and box stores right? Well, you are never too old to learn a few things as I found out their vintage bottles are quite delightful including Cinsaut, a 2000 year old vine who's grapes (and the winemaker of course) makes a delightful bottle of wine. In the summers, they have their outdoor dining overlooking their pond. Or you can select a table outside in the patio area (just look for the Freakshow lights) At anytime of year, you can do your winetasting in their wine room (climate controlled to a nice 69 degrees). We took my mom here for an early mothers day celebration. My mom doesnt drink but I chose this winery for the beautiful scenery. Its really lovely. We had their flight and at one point I asked my sis if the wine was really good or if I was really thirsty. The wine was really good! We grabbed some snacks, took pictures, enjoyed the outdoor patio and at the end I joined their club Next time we'll try their food, they have homemade pie! Oh its also very kid and pet friendly! We were treated like peasants in an establishment that feels very commercial and condescending. We were on the Lodi Wine Tour for Valentine's Weekend. We walked up to a station for a tasting and on got shunned away because some other couple who wasn't there had that spot. The tasters did not bother ushering us to another spot to welcome us. The service at the outside bar could've been better, the server at the counter was a bit rude. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable as always. Wine is good. After tasting we decided to stay and sit outside, so we ordered a bottle of Rapture. We were lucky enough to be able to sit in the bistro. We ended up ordering lunch, pepperoni pizza & cheesy garlic bread. The pizza hit the spot, plenty of pepperoni crust was cooked perfectly. Tried to order pizza here (used to just be able to order it without stipulations) but apparently now if (for example) there are 7 people with us, we have to all pay $20/person (7 pizzas or bottles that equate to $20/person) in order to buy a Pizza. Beautiful grounds, wine tasting bar to one side of the entryway, a little retail section with specialty items to purchase, baked goods (including whole pies displayed in a pie safe) & a cafe to the other side. The cafe tries to use locally grown produce & if you prefer you can forgo that & head straight for the wine tasting & pick up picnic food from the shop & take it to an outdoor tables among the grounds & garden. Ample parking, relaxing space to enjoy some time. Service is friendly, vibe is casual & food is yummy. read more
