I haven't been a regular visitor to Macaron Bar, but I can tell the quality has noticeably declined recently. The only reason this is a 3-star review is because the shop itself remains impeccably clean and the staff members are incredibly sweet and welcoming. However, the macarons themselves are missing the mark technically. In my recent batch, the sizing was highly inconsistent, and several shells were completely flat with barely any filling inside. More importantly, the texture was off--instead of having that signature delicate, crunchy outer shell with a soft, chewy interior, they were entirely soft and gooey. For a specialty shop, precision is key, and I really hope the kitchen can get back to their usual high standards. As who love macaron, I know macaron is flat, inconsistent in size, and lacks filling, it usually points to rushed production or issues with macaronage (the critical folding process of the batter). A soft, gooey shell instead of a crisp, delicate crust means they either skipped the necessary drying phase before baking, underbaked them, or over-matured them in a humid environment. Maybe it was rush due to the "Buy One Get One Free", however I wouldn't buy it if I know the quality would be like this, almost like I pick them out from the frozen aisle in random grocery store... read more

Me and my boo had got like 3 macarons and 2 cookies from them. I don't know exactly which ones we got because it was a surprise bag but if I had to guess one was strawberry, one was salted caramel, and the other had to be like pistachio or something. The Macarons were so soft and had the perfect amount of flavor and balance to them. The two cookies i think were biscotti type of cookies and those were pretty soft and flavorful too. I have been eating at this establishment since it was a pop up inside kenwood mall! These are the best macarons! The flavors have changed over the years and a lot of my favorites like the rose and black currant barely roll around anymore. Thankfully there is a lemon lavender flavor and a earl grey tea flavor which I love and I hope they never get rid of or I would be sad. We stopped into Macaron Bar while walking around downtown Cincinnati. We were attracted by the Pride decorations and the thought of delicious cookies! The store is really cute and the macarons are front and center on display. We were greeted right away by a friendly staff member who asked if we had any questions and who helped us pick out our flavors. We ended up buying a dozen cookies for my grandpa's 90th birthday and got a nice selection of flavors. We loved that there is a black raspberry chip flavor. They put everything into a cute box and we ended up buying an Amaretti cookie as we were checking out. The staff person also gave us a pistachio macaron that had gotten smooshed since we were talking about it being one of their favorite flavors. My grandpa said the cookies were so good! A great gift for sure. The Amaretti cookie and pistachio macaron we ended up eating and both were great. I would absolutely buy the Amaretti cookie again if I see them again- it was my first time trying one and it was so good. My absolute favorite macarons ever! I have had quite a few macarons from different places and none compare to Macaron Bar. They have the perfect chewy shell, with decadent fillings that melt in your mouth. They always have an abundance of flavors and I especially like their seasonal flavors. My favorite all time flavor is Birthday Cake. The customer service is usually pleasant, so no complaints there. There is seating inside, but it's not a lot. We haven't had a problem with this though, because there isn't usually a lot of foot traffic when we go. No public bathrooms which is a downer, but obviously not a dealbreaker. I have had them shipped to my house before and can say they do not travel well, so it's a must to purchase them fresh in-store. Highly recommend Macaron Bar! read more

Loved this little spot of heavenly, cloudy Macarons! Discovered this place thanks to the Popcorn spot right on its side and now I have two reasons to drive to this area. The Macarons where amazing!!!! Super soft but with enough texture and the European Merengue!!!, WOW! Talk about fluffy it was like a cotton candy that had a form of a merengue is as best as I can describe it. This is a most if your are in the area. We were making our way to the car when we spotted this macaron shop. They had a variety of flavors and we decided to get 6, since that's what fits in a box. Each flavor was good. My friends and I accidentally found this place while wondering around on our day trip to Cincinnati. Clearly it was fate. I love macarons, especially really really good ones. I have to say, these macarons were pretty fantastic. Are they the best I've ever had? No, but they are darn close. I loved the exterior and interior of this place, very well done. This place is definitely a stop-by-and-go type of place as opposed to sit-down-and-eat type of place but that's not a bad thing. I limited myself to only getting two (I had more than enough sugar by that point but still, I lamented only getting two) and decided on the earl grey tea and the lemon lavender. They were beautifully crafted, the picture speaks for itself. The earl grey was sweet with a bit of earl grey taste in the frosting. I would have liked it to have more of the tea flavor but still, very good and fantastic texture. The lemon lavender was fantastic, both tastes came across well and the texture was again, fantastic. They were each $2.25 which can seem a bit steep since they're no the largest macarons but the quality and the taste seem to justify it. Next time I'm in town I'll definitely stop by agan! read more

Really amazing macarons. I tried this place for the first time and I think I'll have to come back every time I go to Cincinnati. I got a box of six macarons and I got six different flavors; Cinnamon Roll, Toasted Coconut, Dark Chocolate, Eggnog, Coffee, and Earl Gray Tea. They were amazing, perfectly chewy and sweet. The decor is simplistic but modern and very cool. I also loved the fact that the flavors were written in both English and French, not only is it accessible for French-speakers, but it also gives in an original, authentic flair. I was part of a team tasked with organizing an event for our Food Industry professional organization. Nicole was out contact at the Macaron Bar and made the whole plan very easy. We booked out a Champagne and Macaron Pairing event that happened last night. Nathan and Patrick hosted us and took amazing care of us, even providing an extra cheese tray for the event and allowing us to bring in more snacks and waters. Nathan was very knowledgeable and gave us the background on all the wines they served and Patrick efficiently made sure our glasses were filled. This is my second time eating a Macaron ever in my life. I've heard of it and wanted to know what this sweet dessert everyone is raving about. I know most know what it is but those who don't, a macaron is a drop cookie made of egg whites, sugar, usually almond paste or coconut, and sometimes a little flour. The first time I tried it was in Atlanta at a Paris Baguette- a specialty baked goods store. The flavor was caramel and it was okay. It was a bit stale. When I heard there would be a macron bar opening up downtown, I had to check it out myself. When I entered, a gentleman greeted me and was very friendly and helpful. There was many Macarons displayed and freshly made. It was so hard to choose. You can either get them: -$2.00 each -6 piece box for $12.00 -Dozen for $23.00 I decided to just try three flavors since the last time I tried a macaron, it was bad. I got: -Caramel -Praline -Pistacio My favorite was the Caramel!!! OMG! The taste just sat in my mouth and was so delicious!! Now I wish I would have gotten a 6 piece box!!! :) The Macaron bar is very spacious with seating. I love the retro decor! Besides Macarons, you can purchase beverages (coffee, tea, bottle/can products and more). After trying their product, I don't think I want to eat them anywhere else but here. They are colorful, delicate, and presented to their audience in a stark white, MODlike atmosphere that makes me feel like Twiggy and Andy Warhol are just waiting behind the counter to introduce you to their new art installation: Soup Can dresses and Macaron hats. Yes, macarons are an expensive sweet. A dozen dainty cookies will cost you 25.00 hard earned dollars. That's because those suckers are difficult to make, and it takes real artistry to perfect them. And Macaron Bar does just that. Offering about a dozen or so flavors daily, you can dive into all star favorites like passion fruit, lemon, and vanilla, or indulge in the more exotic Earl Grey, Bourbon Ale, and pistachio. I suggest making a visit earlier in the day for a few nibbles (they tend to run out of flavors) but if you are grabbing a pack of 12 on a hot day, wait until you are heading home. They are best at room temperature but tend to begin melting when left in the sunshine. I'm looking forward to taking one of their baking classes: 95.00 (or 85.00 if you bring a group of 4 or more) and you get to learn the art of macaron baking, sample the wears, and take home a box of your creations. A bakery dedicated to nothing but macarons? I mean, how could this be anything but amazing?!?!? When I stayed with family over the holidays in Northern Kentucky, I got to meet the Yelp Cincy CM (Hi Cindy!) one morning for brunch. She mentioned that just down the street, a new bakery had opened up that we should try. And really, she had me at "Macaron Bar." The clean and white shop isn't very big, but considering it's only selling one type of pastry -- the delicate, French macaron -- it doesn't need much room. The front had a few tables, and separating the seating area from where the macarons are made is the counter, which displays an array of the colorful cookies. On my visit I got the six-piece box for $12, and filled it with one each of the salted caramel, raspberry, pistachio, chocolate, vanilla and pumpkin (seasonal) macarons. The salted caramel was my favorite. The mix of salty and sweet in such a delectable package really added complexity to the normal dainty macaron. The raspberry and pumpkin were also stand-outs. I was also impressed with Macaron Bar's packaging. The adorable blue and orange boxes give you such an adorable package to take home with you. Macaron Bar, please open up a location in Louisville! After a lovely lunch at a nearby restaurant in O-T-R my date and I decided to explore the rest of the neighborhood. We stumbled upon the Macaron Bar, which is in the middle of a block that appears to be going through some gentrification. As a big, BIG fan of macarons I was very, very excited this would be my dessert option. Upon walking in the first things I noticed... Wowzers, it's really bright in here! And hoooray for super cold air conditioning! The look to the MB is very minimal and lacking in color except for a few pops of color in the seating. I decide upon the blackcurrant and the green tea macarons. We take a seat in bright red chairs and watch the construction workers outside the window. Blackcurrant was up first. The texture of the macaron was spot on. The flavor was just ok. I try the green tea, and it was a total winner in my book! I loved it! Not too sweet. It for sure tastes like green tea.... the chilled kind with sweetener. So yummy! For spending only $4 on a dessert that I love, I felt this was worth the stop in. They have an open kitchen plan so you can see them making macarons. There were 2 small tables inside. I shared a 6-box for $13 with a friend. The packaging is cute and colorful. Perfect for a gift. I tried the raspberry, coconut and coffee flavor. The coconut was by far my favorite. There was a slight inconsistency with the texture of the macarons.
