Tam and crew are the best! My MacBook has been getting slower and slower and had recently been doing things it shouldn't, and not doing the things I asked it to do. Went to the Apple Store and they plugged their USB diagnostic tool into it and said things seemed ok. Decided on The Mac Advantage after reading some Google reviews. I mean, if Pixar Studios loves this guy he must have something going for him. Located in a residential area of Rhonert Park means parking right in front of the business. Took in my puter Friday at noon, they checked it in, Tam ran a quick diagnostic that showed the hard drive was failing. He quoted me what I considered a very reasonable price to replace with a new drive and said it would be done by Thursday at the latest. The crew said to call on Tuesday to check on the progress, but Tam called Monday at noon to let me know it was done. Picked it up for the quoted price and brought it home. This thing is smoking fast now and it took the equivalent of one business day. Hopefully I'll never need service again, but if I do it's going to The Mac Advantage. read more

Once again Tam and his team have saved my butt! A pretty new iMac crashed on me yesterday and wouldn't boot. Last backup was a few moths ago I'm embarrassed to admit. They've been able to pull most my data off, and this being the last day they're open until the new year because of the holidays. They are closed next week but I heard many phone calls while I was there today from distressed people like me who are relying so heavily on MacAdvantage. I overheard them more than once agree to stay open another day or two and after hours to accommodate their customers. These folks are great! Completly know their stuff. They have serviced my iMac and iPad. Always fast and thorough. At one time my iMac cd drive failed. I was ready to have the drive replaced but Tam suggested I simply buy an external drive and save $100.00 or so! Now that's putting your customer and good service ahead of making a buck. In the many, many years that I've been a Mac user (since the 512) , with the many, many Macs I've owned, and in the many states in which I've used them, I've never had a better service experience than I just had with Mac Advantage. It's not that the others were bad -- they were not. It's that Mac Advantage is that much better. Tam sets a very high bar and then goes over it with room to spare. This place is about the customer as well as the computer -- they clearly understand the relationship between the two and know the angst that can occur when things go wrong. This was "personal service" at its best. From the first phone call, to a follow up call, I dealt with people who clearly cared that I had a good experience. And, I did. The repair was done promptly and professionally. Tam found and fixed another problem -- one that had shown up a year ago and not been replicated. He didn't charge me for that repair. They are closed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Friday morning I noticed a software issue, unrelated to the repair. I called and left a message on their machine asking for a call back on Monday. Within an hour, on his day off, Tam called and helped me resolve the issue. You might think that you'd have to pay a premium to get this kind of service, but you don't. Tam's rates are the most reasonable I've seen. I chose Mac Advantage after reading Yelp reviews. They were so good I wasn't sure whether I should believe them. I do now. You should too. Their customer service is exceptional. Beyond exceptional. Tam fixed an "ancient" iMac that we have, that years later is still running just fine. At that time, they were courteous, efficient, and decently priced. Recently, our two iPods both went haywire, and Tam spent a significant amount of time diagnosing the problem for us. Tam has created a bonefide apple eutopia in the sublime ether of suburban twilight. When I was going to just go buy a new mac (like I do every 3 years) Mac Advantage turned my slow and bloated 2011 iMac into a formidable heavy use task machine that can handle 2015 software suites and firmware. Tam and his team provide top notch service. My IMac crashed and I thought I was going to lose all of our priceless family photos as well as important business and personal documents. I brought my IMac in and 99% of my data was recovered! Tam sold me a back up device so if my computer were to crash again, I would be covered. The device stopped working so I called into MacAdvantage and they set me up with a remote service call with Tam. Tam not only fixed the back up device quickly, he walked me through restoring my Itunes library that I had lost too! I am an extremely busy person and the remote service call saved me a 30 minute drive to the MacAdvantage. Can't say enough good things about this business. quick, done right, reasonably priced. What more do you want? For years I have had my macs serviced at an unnamed big box, where i bought them, as they were under warranty. Long lines, multiple forms, nice but not too swift staff, ship the computer in, get it back in 2 weeks. Warranty over, i tried Tam and crew. Walked in, got the keyboard fixed, out the door in 20 minutes with completely working Macbook Pro, YEAH!!!! that's the way I like it. read more

I'm a digital photographer so my computer is second only to my camera in importance for my business. Tam and team treat you like family (that's a great thing in my book). First of all... they answer the phone and emails. I called another company that does repair and didn't even get a call back! These people answered the phone when I called and told me to bring my computer in right away. I love that this is a residential business and you just walk up to the house and in the front door. A warm, friendly and helpful staff immediately greeted me. My computer was plugged in and being diagnosed with in a minute or two. The part was ordered overnight and I'm back in business! It can't get any better then that! Customer service is a priority here... you feel it, see it, experience it! Wow, what an amazing experience. I took my MacBook Pro in to get the ailing disk replaced, upgrade to a newer OS and restore my backup. This Mac holds all of my personal and work (therapist client) data, and I had fears of losing big chunks of critical files which would create havoc in my world. Tam was calm, patient, warm, and supplied an estimate of the time and cost. When I checked in with him via phone during the process regarding status, he was always welcoming ("I'm glad you called.") and considerate. He had to work quite a bit longer than anticipated on it due to a system crash which necessitated reloading the OS, and application software that needed a more advanced OS version (yet another download), but he was never rushed or short, and used some of the time when I was present to answer a slew of questions and show me other helpful tips and file locations so I could take care of things when back in my office. Unlike being at the Apple Genius bar, where your system is whisked "behind the curtain" and you aren't able to speak with the technician working on it (frustrating!), I found having access to Tam's expertise very helpful to furthering my own technical education about details of MacOS. By its nature, needing computer repair services usually means that you are in a stressed state, and as I observed him dealing with other customers on the phone and in person, he was unfailingly caring and compassionate about their concerns and worries. I didn't have a lot of interaction with other staff, but Merissa (sp?) was also warm and helpful when I had a couple of questions for her. Completing the repair process took us 1.5 hours after official closing time on a Friday evening, and Tam never exhibited any impatience or irritation. In fact, he insisted on giving my laptop a wipe down so it looked brand new when I finally slipped it into its case. He also made sure I knew I could always email or call with any question that hadn't been addressed when there, and I know he meant it; it wasn't just hype. I was concerned that I would be charged for all the extra hours the crash and extra download had required, but the end fee was very reasonable, and I left a very happy and appreciative customer. I wish more service companies had the combination of warm personal care and connection and technical expertise that Mac Advantage exhibits with its customers, and can recommend them with the highest confidence. Trust the 5 star reviews. Tam is great and by far the best Mac repair guy in the North Bay. I took my MacBook Air to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store in the Santa Rosa mall. As Sheldon Cooper said on Big Bang Theory: it is a "devaluation of the word genius." Those idiots told me my logic board was fried, a $500+ repair. I had recently had a new SS hard drive installed at MyiPhoneRepair. 10 days later my laptop crashed and would not start up. I bought and installed a new battery which I've needed anyway. Tam diagnosed that the drive had failed, and because that drive is still under warranty, I took it back to Justin at MyiPhoneRepair (who is also great by the way, in fact, he recommended Tam & MacAdvantage). Tam would have replaced the drive but since it was under warranty, Justin is doing the repair. Tam diagnosed the problem. Kudos to him. If you've got a Mac and want to save it, go to this guy. It was less than a week before Christmas. My ordered Christmas cards had just arrived and needed to be addressed and mailed ASAP. My label list was updated, but I could not get it to format for labels. For two days I struggled. A friend suggested her friend Tam. I found his number and called. He agreed he probably could help even tho he was swamped with Christmas projects. I rushed to his house, found he had a very professional setup. My mac book air crashed on me and wouldn't work so I took it to the Apple Store where they told me that I had a damaged logic board that would take $900 to fix. Somehow an angel walked into my life named Alejandra and told me to bring it into Mac Advantage where she works. My computer wasn't at the store longer than 24 hours and they had already fixed it for almost nothing!!!! It turns out that all it had was a little bit of liquid damage with build up corrosion and the logic board was fine after all!!! The problem turned out to be complex, and Tam stayed with it, trying numerous and creative approaches until he was able to determine the problem precisely and resolve it. I've known and come to Tam at MacAdvantage for almost 2 decades! Luckily Macs are pretty reliable so I don't have to see Tam much. But this summer I really got to know the way to his door! And they gave me such good service! I so appreciate it. My 16-month old Macbook had to have its screen completely replaced due to physical damage that caused the lcd to go nuts. Tam was able to get a whole new screen installed, and I thought I was good to go. Unfortunately (not related to Tam) the new part was physically not good: it started to come apart after just a few weeks. Tam and crew took it back right away, and was able to get a new screen from same vendor to replace it. Unfortunately, as soon as Tam installed it, he could tell it was not good, but unfortunately he was going on vacation the next day, so offered to replace it once again upon his return. All for no charge. Unfortunately this second replacement screen went totally haywire and was unusable. And I had to wait several weeks and they still could not get a new part, so I opted for a used screen, which seems to working great. And Tam even refunded me the cost difference from my already-paid-for new screen to a used screen. All the while he had to replace the screen three times and deal with the vendor, all without charging me. Great Job Tam and crew! read more

I've moved to Sonoma County within the last two years. I have always taken my MAC's for upgrades to either Apple, done it myself, or used a variety of MAC repair shops in other areas where I have lived throughout the US. My experiences have always been great, but the MAC Advantage stands out - skilled, timely, friendly, cost competitive (well you kind of expect that) - but in this case there was just a great Karma, and Feng Shui that characterizes this business. I'm old enough and old fashioned enough to be taken aback when pulling up in front of a business that is truly "home based" - yes, just a regular suburban house. Tam and his team are amazing. I discovered them 3 years ago and have been doing business with them ever since. I first called them looking to buy my first Mac. I called every Mac dealer in the county, doing my homework. It was clear that no other company came close to the quality of Mac Advantage. Tam is amazing. I late afternoon on a Friday explaining how my LCD had possibly gone out on my 5 year old macbook. They told me to bring in my laptop and they would take a look. I called on Monday and was informed I had liquid damage on my logic board. I was given different options and Tam did everything he could to calm my breakdown. After finding a new laptop, Tam switched the logic boards and rams and by computer was fixed. Best service by far with help on my laptop. They were able to extract the data from my Macbook pro that had a failing hard drive. They "saved my bacon" big time, and I am extremely grateful for their hard work done at a reasonable cost Because I had to drive about an hour to get to Rohnert Park (I live in Ukiah), they provided an extra effort so that I wouldn't be forced to make another trip the following day. About old dogs' incapacity to learn new tricks, much to my surprise, after filling my classroom with pc's that I built, maintained, and networked over the past 15 years, and scoffing at the notion that Mac was cult-hyped beyond its merits, largely in that the Macs that I used were hand-me-downs (which is to say, outdated and lurching into obsolescence), I finally came into regular use of the 3-year old MacBook that daughter Elena traded in for the MacBook Pro that was her university graduation gift (she not wanting to dirty her hands on a pc). The whirling wheel, this Mac's incessant stutter between every mouse click, every online move, not only reinforced my Mac prejudice but had me fantasizing baroque forms of torture and ultimate execution, but I thought I'd give it one last chance before demolition derby and brought it to Tam at MacAdvantage in Rohnert Park (http://www.themacadvantage.com/ca/Home.html) to do what the Apple store in San Diego had previously failed to do which was to unquirk and resuscitate this MacBook. It took Tam all of a half hour to adrenalize this little baby equal to, if not even faster, than the two pc's that we've purchased in the past year, and if it wasn't transformed in my presence, I'd have thought he'd slipped a rebuild in Pearl's (I've even named her) chassis or snuck in a ringer (in my ignorance, they do, or now I may say 'did', all look alike), except the price of this service was far below either of those possibilities. If that's not enough, the generous and clear instruction Tam communicated during that time sent me shooting up the learning curve, and the young and personable staff floating through the suburban residence which houses the extensive repair facility rendered this visit as much a social occasion as a technical epiphany, and this old dog is now enlightened to the allure of Macs, and moth to the flame that has characterized my relationship these past 15 years to computer technology, this new affair won't exactly keep me out of the garden, but my pc rocket will likely be gathering dust on the launching pad for awhile. Well first off I'm writing this on my iPhone so excuse any type o's or autocorrect's. If you have any knowledge of computers or are looking for advice regarding yours be careful while dealing with Tam at macadvantage. Let me first say that he's very nice and easy to speak with, I believe that's what warrants the other reviews on here. However there is more to the story. My experience with them is extremely unfortunate and frustrating, contrary to the other reviews. I brought my 2010 MacBook pro to them for a simple hard drive upgrade. I was changing out my 260gb drive for a 750gb drive since mine was nearly full. The initial costs for this were absurd. 2 hours @ $89 an hour and $240 for the drive. The drive itself is a WD 750gb SATA, which I now found out you can buy online for $150. Also the job itself shouldn't cost $180 as you could do it yourself or find a much cheaper rate somewhere else. However, I agreed to the above costs as I wanted to make sure my computer got done right, and at the time didn't know I could have bought the parts for significantly less. So i was told that this is a fairly simple job and my computer should be done in 2 days. 3 days later after calling them (they did not call me) Tam started giving me the runaround. I was kinda takin off gaurd at first when the first words out of his mouth were regarding the importance of my data on my old hard drive. I told him the data thats on there are audio files from original songs that I've been writing for the past 2 years, absolutely crutial. When I ask him why he is so concerned with what was on the hard drive he begins his pathetic explanation of how my hard drive "failed." now here's the key thing to remember here, which is the bottom line, which is why I'm writing this review. My computer functioned 100% perfect when I brought it in, and now it won't even boot up. So his explanation was that ALL hard drives will eventually fail, and it's my responsibility to have my data backed up. I agree 100%. but that doesn't explain HOW my hard drive failed or why it happened when I brought it to him. I mean, if it worked perfect before I brought it in, and now Won't even start, isn't safe to assume that something happened between then and now? Right, pretty obvious... So this is when the frustration sets in. Not only is my computer completely disabled, they can't or won't provide any explanation as to why this is the case nor will take any responsibility for anything that may have occurred. The only thing that was repeatedly told to me was that this happens all the time with hard drives and I need to go to a data recovery center to get all of my data off of the newly "failed" hard drive. The costs of doing that exceed $1000. Are you kidding me? Just doing a simple hard drive swap to free up some room on my comp is now going to cost me over a grand? And not only that but I have absolutely no other way of getting my computer back to it was before without spending a grand? Really? I'm sorry but This is absurd, and was handled horribly. Obviously they are at fault here, obviously they should show some responsibility and the owner Tam is just beating around the bush when faced with the blatant question of how my comp worked completely fine before I brought it in, and now it won't start. So here's my final thoughts and Recomendations with macadvantage in rohnert park. They are very nice people that do crappy work. When speaking with them you will feel like you are in good hands. However when you show up at their business( which is his house in a residential neighborhood, completely unprofessional) you will find that they aren't capable of operating as a good business should. Jenky work, inflated prices, and horrible customer service. Everything you don't want when having someone deal with your important computer. Mistakes happen, everyone makes em, it's all about how you deal with them. They simply "failed" worse then my hard drive in this case. I highly recommend taking your Mac to the Mac store or a different Mac technition. I left macadvantage with a broken computer with no answers or solutions. read more

I had to use Mac advantage to upgrade my IMac. I pretty much don't know anything about computers, except to use them for email and music. Tam was so understanding and just plain wonderful.
