I've passed by before and wanted to give this place a try even though Yelp reviews wasn't so great. We first waited some time for someone to take our order (the young lady wasn't pleasant) after we placed the order we waited about 45 minutes to get our food to go. My girlfriends friend chicken meal came with Mac & cheese and collard greens (she said it was okay but the portion wasn't worth the price) lol she said not for 1 piece of chicken. My grilled shrimp and grits.... Where do I start the shrimp was cooked snd seasoned and a bit lemon flavored and the grits has cheese melted in it. So today was our first time going to this new restaurant I discovered online named "Ma-N-Pop Soul Food." I rate this place food so far a "10". Sorry we ate it up and forgot to take photos to upload. Anyway, my daughter ordered the pancakes with 2 side orders of turkey bacon and scrambled eggs with a mocha latte, while I ordered the Fish n grits with sunny side eggs toast and coffee. I must say both dishes were fantastic. The decor of the place looks old and dark and filled with memorabilia from generations passed. Photos on the wall contained pictures of MLK, Rosa Parks and Malcolm X. Others were Dionne Warwick, and Muhammad Ali. Old album LPs were also on the wall and musical instruments like guitars. The tables were set up to place 2 to 4 people and not very many inside the restaurant, giving a total of 4 tables. Cozy is a better word for the small space. The atmosphere was inviting and welcoming and the service was the same way too. The waitress took our order and was patient with us , kind polite and courteous. The music in the background took me back to my childhood as a little girl and teenager days listening to the sounds of the Temptations, Curtis Mayfield, Isaac Hayes, Gladys Knight and other soulful music that really touched the core of your spirit deep down within your soul. The price of the food was reasonably priced given this day and age and the food did fill us up. We enjoyed our experience at the Ma-N-Pop Soul Food restaurant and will be returning again soon. Well where do I start, I went late around 915 so that's my fault sorta they close at 10 but still no excuse for my experience. I ordered the fried whiting and 2 sides which came up to $14 for only 2.5 pieces( I thought it would be more) .. that's a ridiculous price! This restaurant is scrumptious. It is good to have the Sourthen taste of soul food alive in Bed Stuy. As I write this review, I still have the mac n cheese melting in my mouth. My fiance has been searching for a while, for the soul and fire of his mother's homecooking. They even got the collard greens right. Greeny, grainy, but zeisty and sweet. Roasted chicken breast was juicy and flavorful. Moist, not dry at all. The sauce of the ribs were sweet, zingy, and rich, but the ribs were unfortunately minimal in size. Went to Mom-and-Pop today 7/26/23. First customer service is horrible. The server never smiled or ask how you are doing. Food was not good. Old bread, salty bacon, salty breakfast potatoes. My sister asked for a glass of water she was given warm water no ice, her eggs was not cooked correct, cold toast with horrible butter and jelly. We really should have sent food back. This place needs an over hauled, old plates and forks and knives. The place is dark and doesn't have a welcome feeling. It's been almost 2 years since I've been there. My sister and I decided to try again a waste of our money. I try to support the Black owned business but not this one. When other races come in, they are very friendly with them. If you're from the south, don't even bother. Mac n cheese had absolutely no cheese, it tasted like buttered noodles.

One word, Yum. The food was so delicious. I ordered the catfish and chips with cornbread and a sweet tea. It was my first time eating catfish and it tasted so good. The corn bread was perfect. It was neither too dry or too moist. My boyfriend ordered the chicken and french toast. He substituted the french toast for the waffles. I was able to snag a piece of french toast and it was sooo good. Didn't get to taste the chicken since I do not eat meat. The place was small and cozy. It gave me family living room vibes. I came by on a Saturday afternoon and the spot was not full at all. I assume with the food being so good a lot of the locals must order to go. Their food is amazing, I'm not from the south however I have friends that are and they tell me that eating here is liking eating at their grandmother's home. The set up of the restaurant is homie and has a 60s feel to it. The walls are decorated with pictures and clippings from that time, the music played represents the time, and they play black and white movies behind the counter. There's a single server who handles the counter as well as the tables, she's quiet efficient. From my understanding this place is a family business that began with a old black couple and has been passed down. I'd recommend the catfish or shrimp. read more

You ever have your mouth ready for something and you're like literally singing and dancing- that's how I was until I opened my plate. Unfortunately I dislike the lack of attention from the waitstaff. It's definitely a family business so it seems as the kids were tired of working and not really into it. The food was pretty decent I thoroughly enjoyed the catfish. But i DONT think $29(our total bill) for one piece of catfish(my fave thing I ate) is worth it. The service here is literally saddening. I was my upmost polite self and great full to the teams hard work( as I am wherever I go/order from). First they didn't have something in my order ( which I wouldn't have known unless I called). Secondly, Uber driver canceled my order as soon as he got it. I called to ask the issue and was advised I wouldn't be charged and to reorder. The previous charge still pending, I go to reorder. I make them aware that I'd have to pay in full again. It's a refreshing change to a lot of BK restaurants that are a little too stylized IMO. Reclaimed wood, tin ceilings, exposed pipes, I GET IT, Brooklyn. Ordered delivery from this place. Wanted to support local business, but I wasn't impressed. We ordered two baked chicken entrees which each come with two sides and a piece of cornbread. We never got the cornbread. This restaurant is not very far from me, but delivery still took more than an hour. Food was lukewarm when it arrived. The sides we got were: collard greens, mashed potatoes, and mac 'n' cheese. The collards were OK, but salty. Mac was bland and somehow dry AND oily. Mashed potatoes didn't come with gravy, though we requested it. The chicken was good, but you basically get one leg (drumstick and thigh), which doesn't have a ton of meat. Banana Pudding - awful (never again). One taste and the trash it went. That was by far the worst banana pudding I've ever had. Such a let down. 5. Lemonade/ice tea mix (Tiger Woods) - sweet but it taste a little spoiled or bitter like the lemons were in lemonade way too long. I asked was there bones in it and was told no, no theres no bones. I could have broke a tooth on the not one, but several bones I bit into. This was also the saltiest chicken I have ever eaten, I didn't finish for the bones and salt. The mac and cheese side was just ok and collard greens were under seasoned. Some of the salt from the chicken should have been in the collards. I also got over priced banana pudding that I shouldn't have. It to was disappointing. I should have went with my initial review and never returned but my roommate just went a few days ago and said the baked chicken was pretty good. The first girl was cleaning tables and then walked to the back, no greeting. Fine, no problem. We stood at the counter and another girl came out a few minutes after and just walked over with her order pad and pen and looked at us. We assumed this meant she was ready to take our order but basic human speech would be nice. We ordered meatloaf and chicken sandwiches to stay and she asked "any drinks?" No, but we assumed we'd get water. Nope. Then after not feeling any soul in the soul food atmosphere (dark, bothered by our presence) we decided to take the order to go about 5 minutes after ordering. We were the only patrons as well. I caught eyes with the first girl, she turns away and goes to the kitchen again. I called out and our order taker returned. I apologize but would like the order to go. I kid you not she laughed in my face and turned around back into the kitchen, no words at all. At this point we just hated the experience and didn't want to be a clear burden on them so canceled the order. She finally learns to speak to say "you already ordered though..." Sorry, bye. Besides, I'm not sure why it would be difficult to remove a sandwich from a plate, package it then clean the plate. It's like a granny's dining room haha very cute and quirky. Anyway, I came here at 9:15 after the bar bc their hours on Yelp say they close at 10 but as soon as I arrived with my sister + friend they informed us they were closing. Then, we were informed that our food will be in the styrofoam containers instead of on plates bc all the dishes were washed and put away...WHET?! It just felt like the two employees left wanted us to just go honestly. They were nice but low key in rush to close down which is very disappointing. While on the prowl for good food while in Brooklyn, I came across this restaurant and it seems prettty legit. The inside was beautiful and decorated like it was the 50's. There's not a lot of places to sit if you have a big group. The menu had a good variety of food with good prices. I love that breakfast was alll day. They served chicken and waffles to burgers and French toast. The food was good overall. The waitress never came back out to refill cups. The cook himself had to come back and forth. This was the worst place I've ever attempted to sit down to eat. And I chose my words wisely in that sentence because after almost an hour of waiting, I never received my food. I went with my brother and sister for Sunday brunch. The waiter was incompetent: he rushed us to make a decision in what we wanted to order. We received neither silverware nor napkins, and didn't get cups of water until the food was almost ready. The food was served on paper plates -- yes, paper plates in lieu of actual dishes -- and no one's food was satisfying. My order was simple -- I wanted some eggs, sausage and corned beef hash with a lemonade before my food came. First, there wasn't any lemonade left. Then, they only had a small. Nearly 20 minutes later, after repeated requests was my lemonade brought -- it was the highlight of my day; it was actually really good. My brother got his food first. The eggs looked basic, his hash browns looked wet and his bacon was overcooked. The oil from his food had seeped through the bottom of the paper plate. My sister was next: she ordered chicken and waffles. Her fried chicken breast was as tough as the Memphis Grizzlies, her waffle had no flavor whatsoever. It was essentially inedible. My baby niece Ari got her food third: it took them 45 minutes to make my three-year-old baby niece a BACON SANDWICH. It was here that repeated requests for water, silverware and napkins were obliged. At this point, the waiter emerged from the kitchen to tell me there was no more corned beef hash. Nearly an hour after we placed our orders, he told me what I wanted was unavailable. I told him OK, if the rest of the dish is ready I'll just eat eggs ,sausage and home fries -- that's a complete meal, right? 10 minutes later, I still have no food. The woman who sat next to me and ordered 15 minutes after me got her food, while I sat there hungry. I asked the waiter the status of my food and he said the chef had just begun to cook. Over an hour after I ordered, I was still food-less. Disgusted, I got up and left, walked over to Lucky House Kitchen and ate some Chinese food. Do NOT suffer the same fate I did.
