I was visiting for breakfast as I was taking my son to a tutoring session at Sylvan right across the street from Patty plus. I ordered a salt fish and provision (s) and a beef patty for my daughter. The provision still had water on it. The server didn't drained it out so it got mixed into the salt fish which didn't have flavor. I noticed this shop sunday night. today was running errands saw it was open. small mom and pop shop. staff was cleaning. a customer having some sort of stew. I had the beef patty. asked if they made their own versus selling Tower Isle or some other brand. It tasted homemade and very different. more of a meat thickened gruel. When I discovered that Patty Plus existed a mere half mile from the office I was excited. When I discovered that it had not been reviewed yet on Yelp, I was doubly excited (2 first reviews in 1 week? wowzers!). When I got there and saw the dreadful "Grade Pending" on the window my excitement died down considerably. I went with the chicken curry roti, my Jamaican coworker decided on the BBQ chicken with rice and beans, and we each got a couple of desserts (potato pudding and currant roll). Meh x3. We both agreed that my curry chicken needed more spice and her BBQ chicken lacked any spice at all. I tasted it - it was smothered in a tangy, yet otherwise flavorless sauce. The currant roll was "OK" - honestly, the best thing was the potato pudding. Reminded me of a weird looking pumpkin pie. The people behind the counter were nice, but I really don't think I'll be back after having the food. I'll stick to the mile walk to Buff Patty on Myrtle, even if I weren't the first to review it. read more

This place! Where do I start? So someone suggested I get lunch from here for the following reasons: 1. I work in the area 2. It's reasonably priced 3. I'm Trini and I love West Indian food 4. When we reported it to the store manager he offered another serving instead of throwing out the pot to protect others. We had to demand the refund. I didn't read the reviews before coming here. Just came because I wanted a chicken patty. The owner was closing for the day but she took pity on my and let me in. The patty was delicious, the best I've had down here in a while (bc golden Krust is just not cutting it anymore!). So I decided to bring my husband over and he ordered the roti and I the jerk chicken. I was a bit disappointed with the chicken, wasn't spicy at all but the roti!!! Oh was that roti amazing. The little scotch bonnet. To the naked, untrained eye he looks rather cute and harmless. Yet, mess with him and you will be in tears. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The curry goat and the oxtail here are very hearty with just the right amount of heat and nice gravy consistency that marries well with the rice and peas. On a cold day these two dishes are a very good consideration. The beef patty, despite having better flavor than the standard pizzerias or delis, (as it should esp. when it's part of the name of this place) needs to have more ground beef to truly have itself elevated. Otherwise, it is too watered down by the meat sauce. The jerk chicken, the West Indian staple dish, is ridiculously hot. And yes, I am aware that jerk seasoning is supposed to be hot. Here, however, it reaches the level where the meat is overpowered beyond reason. It does not help that the chicken is too dry either. Any attempts to temper the heat by digging into the rice or steamed vegetables are futile because the spice from the chicken permeates through everything it comes into contact with. There is no escape. I recall my friend was crying like a baby when he ate it and did not wind up finishing that small lunch special. Mind you, I love hot and spicy food. Ironically, the stewed chicken and the BBQ chicken turned out to be under-seasoned. This place is hit or miss (mostly the latter) depending on what you are getting. Once in a while, especially on a brisk, chilly day, it is worth a visit - just be wary of their jerk chicken and the little bomb that sets it off - the scotch bonnet. read more

It's a pretty narrow store inside but the amicable cashier knocked out the line quickly. Got the Beef, Chicken patties plus an oxtail roti, total to about $16 (patties are $2/each, $11 for the oxtail roti). The patties were delicious, especially the chicken one with its curry sauce. The beef one was good too with a pleasant flavorful after taste. The crusts weren't too thick and the size was just right to hold. Plus a small amount of oil residue on the bag that held them, so they aren't overly greasy.
