Chilaquiles w/cochinita pibil
Siria F.

The service was great! The staff was super friendly and go out of their way to answer any questions. The inside of the restaurant is super cute, love the decor. It is located in a small shopping center. There is a small parking garage and the restaurant is on the corner of that shopping center. We ordered the cafe de olla (7/10), tacos de canasta as an appetizer (8/10), La Cazuela (8/10), chilaquiles w/birria (7/10) - the birria and chilaquiles were dry, needed more sauce, the chilaquiles w/chochinita pibil were my favorite (10/10), they had the perfect amount of sauce and flavor. Overall, a cute restaurant with great staff and service!

Maiz is in the heart of Tijuana. It is not huge, it is adorable with cute things on the walls and wonderful seats. The place is clean and comfortable. We loved everything about it. The prices are really fair and you will get a great meal there. The service is so nice and welcoming. Don't worry if you don't speak Spanish, they will help you and sometimes they have English and Spanish speak servers. They know the menu well and will get your order pretty fast and always right. If you want a mild sauce, they will do that. If you want something painfully hot, they can do that as well. The salsas are just great and they have a super selection. I hear their coffee is great, but I am a coward and don't drink anything made with tap water. But that is just me. All of their food is great and you will be happy with whatever you order. We love their Chilaquiles with Cecina and eggs.

Quesadilla

Came here on a quick trip to Tijuana and was in need of an authentic shop with delicious food. The server and workers were very friendly and accommodating as well so I appreciate that. Quesadilla 5/5 - I'll have to say that this was a very delicious dish. I could tell the tortilla was handmade and that they used high quality ingredients especially in the cheese as well. It came with options to add red salsa topping which was spicy and a green one which was less spicy. It also came with pickled onions as well to add it on top since it's only the tortilla, cheese, and meat. The sizing is pretty big and I got full off of one, so also keep that in mind. This place also had a variety of what it seems like local cuisine. I saw other people who ordered soups like Pazole and it looked really good so I'll have to come back and try that out next time. Would definitely recommend!

Chilaquiles

Not sure why so many positive reviews. At first walk in, I smelled the odor or bad plumbing. Yeah, kinda ruins it right off the bat. The menu is nothing special and the food is not good. No flavor and no alcohol to help make it better. It's in a decent location and that is about it. The interior is annoying either way the fan causing a strobe effect with the light above it. The kitchen cook, maybe the mother was watching us as we ate. Felt weird being watched. This would not be my third choice if looking for a place to eat. Mole sauce was decent and so was the salsa which was hot but no chips to go with it. Two stars is generous.

I love coming here every-time I visit Tj , the employees are always so nice ! The food is sooo good 100/10 recommend! My favorite are their quesadillas hechas a mano and their cafecito !!!

Omelette and chilaquiles with a side of potatoes.

Food was amazing. I ordered the omelette and the chilaquiles plate and it came with a side of potatoes. The omelette was very tasty. It had a very delicate and silky texture. That's prob not a good way to explain it but the omelette was delicious!

Best Mole ever!!!

The absolutely best Mole I ever had! Everything here is made from scratch. With pure & raw ingredients. It's a beautiful hole in the wall with grandmas in the open kitchen preparing traditional masterpieces. I originally came for their cochinito pibil but they had sold out. Their guacamole was amazing their Jamaica hibiscus tea was phenomenal

Location is small but do not let that stop you from going in. The employees are so friendly and welcoming. Food tastes homemade. Menu has a good selection. I did learn that not everything on the menu is available all day so just make sure you ask before wanting to order the gorditas. Pancakes had such an amazing flavor to them. Steak was well cooked. Chilaquiles sauce had good flavor and wasn't spicy. Plates are definitely a good size. Would definitely recommend!

Cada vez que cruzo la frontera, me aseguro de desayunar aquí. La comida y el servicio me hacen sentir como si estuviera cenando en casa de un familiar. Recomiendo este lugar a los amigos que visite Tijuana. Every time I cross the border, I make sure to have breakfast here. The food and service make me feel like I'm dining at a family member's home. I recommend this place to friends visiting Tijuana.

If you are looking for a different type of place for breakfast in Tijuana, you will discover the…read morename, Marenca. The Zona Rio location has a small dining area, that is very popular with both the locals and visitors. It is easy to see why. Their menu does not over dose on the standard morning and afternoon items that you would find anyplace. However, this is the first restaurant I've been to in Tijuana, that does not have an English menu.... so I had to labor through the Spanish menu. But, they do have unique dishes, thus making the visit adventurous, because it is difficult to choose. I went back and forth, and finally settled for their 3-egg omelet with asparagus and sheep cheese. It came with refried beans, strings of carrots and beets, small fired up tostadas and fresh tortillas (both blue and yellow corn). A small side of soggy chilaquiles was also served. A small flavorful salsa tray is also provided with 3 options, ranging from mild to hot. The asparagus spears were thin, cut up into small pieces and sautéed with mild spices. The outer egg covering soft and not overdone. If anything, there was too much sheep cheese, in certain portions of the omelet. I say this because it was an asparagus omelet, and it, instead of the cheese, should have been the star. Still, it did not take away from the other commendable aspects of the complete entree and its accompaniments. Before the meal, a small refreshing fruit plate is served. Coffee and overall service here, was mucho excellente.

They have their own designated parking, which is nice, as sometimes parking may be an issue in town. The parking attendant welcomes you and lets you know where to park. You are immediately greeted when you walk in. I typically visit for a late lunch. The restaurant has a cozy feel. The staff are attentive and friendly. The presentation of the food is nice and it tastes good. Some of the dishes that I have tried are: Tarahumara (portobello omelet), Xitomatl (entomatadas), Huichol (chilaquiles con cecina), Mulli (mole Oaxaqueño), Teotihuacán (chilaquiles con chorizo y huevo), and Coyoltzin (puntas de filete). My favorite has been the Coyoltzin because the meat is tender and juicy. I also love that they bring salsas to the table. I like the chiles with oil and vinegar that they make. Overall, a great place to have breakfast or lunch with friends and family.

We all got a bunch of tacos asado and wow they were fantastic! Im not much a taco fan but maybe all my life, I have been served mediocre tacos because this place was sooo good! Taco asado was 47 pesos which is about $2.50. After we ate our tacos, we pay with the cashier and I noticed that this place has been a Michelin awarded restaurant for the past 3 years. And well deserved! Loved it! All the staff here helpful, kind and happy. Next time I am back in Tijuana, definitely coming back here!

It came highly recommended by both locals and fellow food lovers, and after seeing the incredible reviews, we knew we had to experience it for ourselves. We ordered a little bit of everything: tacos de tripa, tacos al pastor, tacos de asada, and an asada quesadilla. Every single item was packed with flavor and tasted incredibly fresh. The tripas were perfectly crispy without being greasy, the al pastor was juicy, well-seasoned, and had that classic balance of savory and slightly sweet flavors, and the asada was tender with a delicious char-grilled flavor. The asada quesadilla was generously filled with meat and gooey melted cheese, making it the perfect complement to the tacos. One thing I really appreciated was how convenient the ordering process is. They have a drive-through style setup where you simply pull up and park in front of the restaurant. An employee comes directly to your car to take your order, and once your food is ready, they bring it right out to you. It's such an easy and efficient experience, especially if you're eager to grab amazing food and get back on the road. It's easy to see why this place has earned such a stellar reputation. Between the authentic flavors, generous portions, friendly service, and convenient setup, this was the perfect way to kick off our trip into Mexico. I'll definitely be making this a tradition every time I cross the border.
