With so many donut shops in the area what makes MJ's Donuts stand out is not just their yummy donuts & croissants but how friendly and hospitable MJ is. I tend to stop by donut shops in the afternoon in search of something sweet to go with my afternoon coffee. Even an hour before closing, MJ's donut selection was still pretty good and they were still very fresh, light, and fluffy. I chose my usual favorites: the old fashioned bar and maple bar and I was told I could add one more for $4 total. Who could resist that? I asked her to surprise me with the third one and I really was surprised to discover an apple fritter in my bag when I got home. Such a decadent and delicious treat! Stumbled on M J's Donuts while grabbing coffee at Better Buzz. There was still a good variety of pastries available when I stopped by around 9 a.m. on a Thursday. I ordered a ham and cheese croissant ($5), a jalapeño ham and cheese croissant ($5), and a maple bar ($1.50), for a total of $11.50. They offer to warm up the croissants, which makes them perfect to enjoy right away--highly recommend! The gentleman at the counter even added a donut hole to each croissant bag. It appears to be a husband-and-wife team running the shop, and they mentioned they've been in business for 30 years! I later realized the maple bar wasn't included in my bag, but it's not a big deal--I'll just have to return and try a few more items next time. I'm leaving 1 star off because they used to always have the best marble donuts but lately the marble donuts have been very subpar. It used to be a white vanilla glaze with decent amount of chocolate frosting parts and was always soft and fresh but also light and somewhat hollow inside which made them fluffy and good. Now they are more heavy and taste a tad stale and more hard, and the white vanilla glaze is now barely there and is like a light regular glaze with a little less chocolate on it too, it's too dense and not fluffy or soft. I went here one time and will never go back. The lady working there put two donut holes in my donut box even though I didn't ask for them and then charged me for them before I could even say anything. Yes, they were only 50 cents more; she put them in to make my total an even $9 instead of $8.50. Still, I was very upset about that. I'm unsure if she's too lazy to give me change/quarters, greedy, or both, but that left a very sour taste in my mouth, which is saying something considering how sweet donuts are. Stay clear of this dump; I will gladly go out of my way to go somewhere else, even if it's much farther, more expensive, and doesn't taste as good, because customer service matters. Tasty and fresh, pretty good donuts. They are $10/dozen and they throw in one extra donut, so it is cheaper than most other donut places. However, it is only the regular donuts and you don't get the cream and jelly filled donuts. The menu did say big donuts are $16/dozen, so I assume you'll get them if you order those. The owner is super friendly and enthusiastic about her donuts. So far, we've tried the maple bar, cinnamon crumb twist and a vanilla cake donut with sprinkles. All of them were good, but a bit more dense than other places. The prices are extremely reasonable at $1.25 per donut, but note there is a credit card fee regardless of how much you spend, so it's best to bring cash if possible! As others mentioned, the owner is really sweet and generous, as she usually throws in extra donut holes in each bag and one time also gave me an entire donut for free! I was shocked, as I didn't even notice her sneaking in a whole extra donut, but it truly made my day, as you rarely see such personable and warm gestures like these nowadays.
